Well I have just got my new atrix, this its a uk version. I have just come from a htc desire which was rooted and pretty bloody good I thought. The question is now where do I start with the atrix? Is my phone rootable and hackable

Well I would just like to say that this post
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1196747&page=1
is exactly what I wanted, it told me what to do in a single post and it all worked without error !
so if you in same situation as me go for this
my device is now bootloader unlocked and rooted

http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1154600

I have the UK version too - Sim Free & have been trying to root for he past day with various methods & none as of yet have rooted my phone.
Gingerbreak - Superoneclick all of which fail, superoneclick just says looking for device even with usb debugging active.
So far pretty poor

Use the preinstall method:
http://briefmobile.com/motorola-atrix-4g-root
If it doesn't work - you are doing something wrong.

sell your phone run RUN ....
thats funny...why you don't use the search or look to the development session?!...it have an stick thread about this

I spent two days looking and a lot is confusing or just relates to the US version, or lots of info on people bricking phones because of updates.
Just wanted someone to say yes it can be done and this is the latest full guide.

I followed this procedure on my UK Atrix Sim Free & it didn't work. Gingerbreak just sits saying it's rooting but it doesn't

Not had time to have a go yet but will let you know how I get on thought the desire was great in the end. But looking forward to running things like backtrack on it and high quality movies on it

Had my cousin visit from home with an Atrix and rooted it easily with the preinstall method.
In fact it was playing with that phone that brought me back to the Atrix.

so I have now unlocked it all
well it is unlocked and rooted etc, 3 hours i have been looking this morning to fing out how to update the rom and maybe the kernel.
brain ache! so many already, i find I am going form link to link to link.
can anyone point me in right direction of what to do for updating rom and kernal for UK Atrix. some details here if it helps
Sys version is
4.2.23.MB860.T-mobile.en.GB
Firmware
2.2.2
Baseband
01.92.00R
webtop
OSHWT_U1_6.54.0
Kernel
2.6.32.9
Build
OLYEM_U4_2.2.3
preferably the easiest way to do it, and one with all things working like wireless and ram
is their a way of just doing it from the phone rather than PC with this moto-fast boot thingy?
I have seen a few peoples signatures with same phone as mine on T-mobile with faux kernel and some orange rom

[Q] How to use x10i with no sim

Hi Guys,
My x10i was giving me pig of problems and my carrier gave me a new phone (not a new x10i though ) but now that I have this, would like to play with it a bit more install some roms upgrade to gingerbread (when I can). But primary issue right now after restored to factory settings on the device is can't get access to my wifi network.
As this is the only method will have for internet connection its useless without. So my question is..... do I need a working sim (have few blanks) to get this to work with wifi (do not know why this would be but possibily the queing of network discovery).
Any help whit this would be greatly appreciated.

anyone have wosim so can load it via usb (if I can), if so can it be loaded somewhere so I can download it
Download it from here, and install Via Usb
http://www.appbrain.com/app/wosim/jp.siter.android.wosim
did this work in the end?
i realised you had no market connection but naturally thought youd just pull the apk of the net and drop it into you phone.
Dc
Got wosim, installed it and doesn't work >:¬{ thought the easiest at the end of the day was take out the sim from working phone, put in to x10i and install (thank you market for allowing remote install)
But would not work, phone is rooted so thats not an issue (hehehe or maybe it only works with non routed phones).
So now back to square one, if I put in a custom rom, or wait till the boys perfect Gingerbread on the device then maybe that will sort it out???
At a loss now as the device might as well be bricked, that or buy a scratch and sniff sim card maybe with data???
Tried this with a dummy carrier sim card in the hopes that this would work but no joy, looks like have to buy a sim to get this to connect. This is crazy.... should be a simple way grrrr
Just wondering does anyone have any advice on this have a phone that would like to use wifi only at the moment without the need for buying a new sim.
If I installed a custom rom would it help, and if so any advice on which one?
Well, i got it working on my X10i..
Im using the ROM (in my sig)
Follow these steps:
Insert your SIM
Download and install wosim from market
Turn on WiFi (if it wasn't already on)
Turn off your phone
Remove SIM
Turn on your phone
Connect to the WiFi you want to use (wifi is still on, cuz it was on when you turned off your phone)
It worked for me, can't see why it won't work for you
Thanks, tried that before without the rom and without been rooted, will try with it rooted and see does it make a difference, then if not will try rom'ing the device
nope did not work on standard rom - did not think so... off to install Cyanogen CM then thanks
Was saying to myself for months that would install a rom and kept on kicking it to touch cause of the "grief" http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=945264 it really can't be easier, now there is a few more bits I have to do, but there was no need for Wosim as there was wifi blade that did the job thanks again Pierre Duc if I could thank you again in here I would >:¬}

You should be able to restore with xRecovery to an earlier version but if you really can't your never really bricked..
http://www.sonyericsson.com/cws/support/softwaredownloads/detailed/updateservice?cc=gb&lc=en
SEUS will get you back to a stock 2.1update1 - from that Eclair you can Fastboot and get to any custom rom you like.
Regarding not having a sim, I live in Australia and the pre-paid sim's they sell at a funny stor here called K-Mart cost an amazing $2... sorry I'm not trying to be cheap or anything but they really are cheap! You don't even need to have credit on it..

[WIND] Simplest Unlock Procedure for Samsung Vibrant

So I just ordered a T-Mobile Samsung Vibrant Galaxy S from Ebay:
http://cgi.ebay.ca/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=150577562044#payId
I realized after purchasing that it was not unlocked. So my question to you is simple: What is the latest and most secure/safe (unbrickable procedure) that I should go about to Unlock and Root my phone so I can use my Holiday Miracle Plan on Wind Mobile.
I have found this article via the search: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=747625
It highlights what I have to setup to make Wind Home/Away work properly.
I have also found theses unlock/rooting techniques and this is what I was going to do (if there is a better and safer way to go about this PLEASE post a reply):
1. Root the phone with SuperOneClick
2. Install Busybox from the Market
3. Install Unlock Galaxy_S App by Helroz also from the Market
My main concern is Helroz's app I strictly followed his thread on how to manually unlock the Vibrant and I messed about with the earlier BAT files. I just need some reassurances that this is doable and a little info on modem types and basebands would be wonderful. This is my first android phone (coming from Apple/BB hacking) and I would like it to be a smooth transition.
Thanks in advance.
I thought Galaxy S One-Click Root is as it as it gets.
My main issue is this step:
3. Install Unlock Galaxy_S App by Helroz also from the Market
Rooting seems quite simple I got that down pat. SuperOneClick is awesome. My REAL issue is this:
How can I check the phone's Baseband Modem and depending on what modem I have would this unlock by Helroz work for me?
I'm looking at this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=868774 and I'm trying to wrap my head around all the different modem models and what the difference between CWM and ODIN is. Is there is an FAQ that someone can point me to?
And lastly what ROM do you suggest I flash on it. I believe the phone (I don't have it yet tbh internationl shipping to CAN is slowww) is shipping with 2.1 Eclair stock and I want to install a 2.2 rom on it that's preferably balanced between speed and battery life, leaning a little more towards battery life.
Just look for galaxy unlock in market its easy or to make it easier buy galaxy unlock pro it will do it in a couple secs

No chance of a brick, all it does is give you your unlock code which you then "dial" and hit send. Phone unlocked.
Or you can call T-Mo customer service and ask for it, as long as your phone isn't stolen, they shouldn't give you any trouble about getting the unlock code.
I don't know if Vibrants can be hardware locked... I always thought that referred to phones with nand locks, like the G2. But I could be wrong.
Sent from my rough sketch of a Vibrant on a brick.
Helroz's unlocker will from the market will work
Badie,
Thank you SO MUCH for saving me hours of frustration. Could'nt access my phone via USB and on top of that phone got locked from my "games"......You are the knight in shining armor :O)
Thanks guys unlocked and rooted now!

[Q] From HD2 to SGS2 - help me not brick my shiny new Samsung

Hello thar.
I am no stranger when it comes to flashing recovery, MAGLDR, various NAND rom's and generally faffing around - but that's because I have a HD2, and there's lots and lots of development for it.
I've been looking through the SGS2 fora for a while now and I get the idea that (as expected) things are quite new in regards to root, recovery, roms...it's just not as user friendly as the HD2 from what I can see. I'm no tech newbie but I felt things were easier on the other phone. I'm basically here to don my Noob cap once more and figure things out.
However...
I quickly want to confirm what the values are that i'm looking at, and how I apply this knowledge from my SGS2 into the XDA site so I know exactly what to look for.
So here goes:
Baseband version: I9100XXKDJ
Kernel Version: 2.6.35.7.I9100DXWKE2-CL187606 [email protected] #2
Build Number: GINGERBREAD.XWKE2
So I know i'm on KE2. I haven't installed Kies, but i'm assuming i'm due an upgrade? I'm on O2 UK.
Also, what on earth is this [email protected] Do I have root already??
Many thanks for anyone who can clear these simple questions up for me...
Trust me, it's even easier on this phone. If you just want root but want to stay on stock rom head over to the cf-root thread by Chainfire and flash the ke2 kernel in Odin. It'll give you root and CWM.

Ah now you see I already understood that bit, I downloaded Odin last night but didn't have the phone til today.
I just want to understand where i'm coming from, the system values i've written out above almost imply i've got root, plus I want to know whether upgrading to KE4 should be done as standard (is it like simply going from Android 2.3.3 to 2.3.4) or is the "KE" thing very much something I should know what i'm doing before I tinker...
Not sure I exactly understand what you mean, but I'll give it a go
Afaik the "KE" thing is simply the kernel/firmware name. I think KF3 or 4 is the newest one.
You normally update through Kies if you're not rooted, but every firmware version is available from XDA. They are simply flashed by Odin, which is incredibly easy. Some roms can also be flashed by CWM if they support it.
Hope this helps and that I didn't misunderstand you.
Edit: I also highly doubt you got root, but it's easy to find out. Just perform a action that require root access.

Thanks for your words. I'm a couple of steps closer to unleashing Odin on my phone.
I have gone from a HD2/Dell Streak5 combo to HD2/SGS2 combo. I wish women judged us men on the value/epicness of our phones, if they did i'd be pretty much getting it on right now.
One can dream right? By the way I was also very insecure about rooting my SGS2, everything was different from my Legend. But then I dived in and found out it was much much easier, almost foolproof I would say.
Cheers and enjoy your beast of a phone.

reading this cheered me up
this phone is incredibly easy to mod out and fiddle with
IF YOU READ I PROMISE YOU WONT BRICK YOUR PHONE
and also make sure the cable doesnt get disconected from the phone while you are hacking/writing firmware because you WILL NOT BE HAPPY
Just follow those two rules and you will be perfect
its very easy to do stuff to this phone, I love it, have fun with yours
I'm currently on a rooted KE2.
Reinstalled the original image so I don't get the exclamation mark, but still rooted.
MyBackup Root won't restore my backups. I get the error "cannot write to SD card".
Now i've noticed there's a change of layout here with this phone. I've got sdcard and external_sd folders. Assuming the backup app is trying to write to external_sd which is literally that, the external sd card, why can't it??
I would understand if MAYBE the internal sd was locked down but even then I know it's not.

Switched to GS2 from my hd2. I'm loving the lighter weight and superior screen =)....Switching ROMs is also a breeze. Hope you're enjoying your experience!
Well i've finally mastered everything I needed to. I have root but also a stock ROM, I have all my apps and homescreen the way I want and yes the lighter phone and amazing screen all make up for the next problem...
I have a pair of £120 Monster headphones and they DON'T FIT!
There's less than a millimetre of a gap but a gap nonetheless. My headphones aren't in fully and the only way to remedy the issue is either to hold them in with a finger or turn the headphone plug so it's pointing to the back of the phone - this then becomes an issue with pockets etc.
Without being able to listen to music on this phone i'm left carrying my HD2 around as if it were an iPod. Not good. Also the SGS2 doesn't recognise the vol-up and vol-down as a method to choose prev & next music tracks in PowerAmp. I'm sure the Dev is on the case though as it is a fairly new phone.
Without music i'm seriously considering selling the handset.
Have you tried pushing the plug down with some amount of force? Mine didn't go all the way down at first either, had to push it. If not you should replace it, they should fit.

It's how the plug is seated. If I turn the plug so it's in line with the body of the phone i.e. pointing left or right it refuses to rest fully within the hole. There's an obvious 'spring' effect once I let go of the plug.
If I turn the plug so it's pointing away from me to the back of the phone it sits in there quite nicely. I can only put this down to either the curvature of the plug itself or the tiny little ridge at the join between the gold connector and the L shaped plug itself.
On a side note I did just ram it in there with my palm and it sat quite nicely, then I shook it around a bit (I go to the gym a lot, I was pretending to be kickboxing...) and it stayed in place. Now i'll just wait for the PowerAmp Dev to implement volume button track skipping.

X2 do I have to update?

Hi everyone. I got an X2 a few months ago and it has Android 2.2.2 installed. I used gingerbreak to gain root access and then froze all the extra bloat with Bloatfreezer. This morning I woke up to a message about an update to 2.3. I have a few questions about this..
Do I have to?
Can I use gingerbreak after the update and redressed all of the bloat?
I've been wanting to try one of the custom roms floating around on here but I just haven't had the time to do it. Is the update going to ruin my chance to do that for a while?
One last note, I have used this site in the past to help root my D1, but I still don't really know what is happening on my phone when I root/flash roms/etc. I know its unlikely that someone could teach a whole programming lesson on here, but a sticky for people new to it explaining what is actually happening would be a great help.
Sorry for the long post, thanks for the help.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1193818
I asked mr clown to add this to the roll up sticky I don't think he got around to it yet, if you follow these directions you will have rooted 2.3.3, there is no gingerbreak app that works on this update, you MUST follow these directions to get root on gingerbread.
Edit: you do not HAVE to update, and I can't answer your other questions without some serious talking out my @$$

I accidentally updated. I had the phone turned sideways and rotated and then pushed the update later button but after it rotated it was actually the update now button. I decided to let it play out, but after all is said and done, I still have the super user icon on my phone. None of the apps which require root will function but I do have the super user icon present.
Is that just a glitch?
Will it still root properly?
Is there another way to check for root access?

Super user icon is stuck now, only way to root is to flash back to 2.2.2
Sent from my DROID X2 using XDA App
And you should definately do that in my opinion, carrying the superuser icon with NONE of the benefits of being rooted? No reason for that IMO You've rooted previously so you might as well go do this right, follow the step by step intstructions on sbfing back to froyo and hitting up P3s prerooted update file, and as for explaining the stuff how technical do you want it to get... the basic idea of rooting is that its giving you access to the "root" of your phones directories/controls kinda like an administrator on the computer, the flashing/sbfing is simply swapping one or more sets of your phones programing out for another,
their are a couple boring vids on youtube that can show you the ropes of what this development actually is if you can watch a couple times without falling asleep
Yep, you have su apk, but it's not going to work.
You're going to have to sbf back to 2.2 and do the ginger break, etc process to get 2.3 rooted on your phone.
Thanks for the responses. I think I'll give this a go tomorrow. To be clear though, now that there is an sbf, there is no real danger of permanently killing the phone right? Hopefully I wont need it, but it helps knowing that I can't completely screw things up.

[Q] Impression i7 Tablet

I was recently shopping for a knock-around tablet and came across leaderinternationalinc dot com this little guy at Kmart. Yep, I said Kmart. When I asked the price and they told me $129, I said SOLD!.
So far it's been average in performance and had to do some trickery to get some apps installed (Android/Amazon Market, Pandora, Google Talk, etc.) and am still having some difficulty installing other apps. It seems as if they really want you to use their market and apps, some of which are okay, I guess. I got Netflix installed, but the audio/video isn't in sync and everything is a hue of blue. Might be a Flash Player issue - also which I can't seem to update.
Anyway, the bad news is I can't find a way to get in to bootloader or able to root this tab with oneclick. Hopefully they didn't lock this thing down to hard.
Additionally, since the screen is resistive, using a stylus makes it a bit easier to navigate. Worth the money so far!
I'm praying the brilliant dev brains here at XDA will purchase this one and create a simple root/rom that allows me to take this thing to the next level!
Anybody out there?

Were you able to get the standard Market installed on it? I was able to get it along with Pandora, Google Voice and a couple others (Netflix not working well) with a little trickery. Still can't get Google Talk and a few other things like an updated Flash.

just return it and get another one, a tablet thats $129 is probably not going to be great at that price.. other than the time hp touchpads were $99
Yeah, it's not the snappiest device I've owned, but makes a great desk-side companion. Mainly use it for Pandora, Weather, IM and a few other things...I'm generally still happy with it although I know it won't replace my primary device. Having the (free) second AC adapter is nice so I don't have to carry that back and forth. 2 hours of streaming music kills the battery dead.
Stay plugged in with this one.
Still hoping, praying that a dev picks one of these up...

Mod link? His post is the 2nd post and as I said, he already moved it to Android Q&A: http://forum.xda-developers.com/forumdisplay.php?f=1236.
You can install the Android Market without any funny business. Just download the apk and install. Still think this device can perform much better if it just had vanilla froyo... Hope someone cracks it.

I have an i7 and I got it rooted, what factory installed .apk's are safe to remove? I prefer my own music/movie players etc....
Thanks in advance
What did you use to root? Superoneclick didn't work for me the last time I tried... Did it unlock the bootloader?

I used super1click, the newest version. It didnt work the first few times, i ended up doing shell root first, then was able to achieve root as normal. It did seem to take a while.
Edit: I just rooted a 2nd i7.... had the same trouble with it just hanging during root. When it hangs, quickly unplug the usb the replug it in. Once it detects usb debugging again it will root properly and pass the verification at the end.
Hope that helps

Just attempted rooting it myself with Superoneclick.
Did shell root first and that went fine. Attempted normal root right after and it hung right at the end when it said the device was rooted and would restart. Unplugged and replugged the usb quickly and then it rebooted.
My i7 was definitely not rooted when it rebooted. Not sure what went wrong. Attempted it numerous times with the same result sadly. Did it hang right at the end for you or at a different point during the root?

When it hangs at the end it never worked for me. Id suggest trying the different methods to root instead of auto....i just pretty much tried everything until i goot root to stick...if it hangs during root steps thats when to unplug and replug.
Sorry i dont have a more speific solution, but i did get two rooted like this
Oh and obviously double check usb debugging is enabled

Alright. Thanks for replying. Assumed if it was hanging at the end then it wouldn't work. Just wanted a confirmation on it.
