I got my 3d yesterday, promply rooted and loaded Viper Rom and am stoked ont he speed of this phone. very responsive and battery life appears to be better than my OG evo.
Thanks for the Devs that helped make that happen.
My question is how can i turn off the "swirling cube" animation when unlocking the phone? its driving me crazy. I would also like to turn off the weather animations on the unlock screen if anyone has the quick answer to that i will be all set...
hbogo, netflix, ftp, ssh, sipdroid on wifi, ect ect holy sh$t this phone is a beast.

Not sure what the swirling cube is, but the weather on the lock screen is pretty simple. Menu | Settings | Personalize | Lock Screen -> Choose something less bothersome.
hth!
Swirling cube are the screens twirling at the beginning to get to your homescreen. Like if you swiped your finger across the home screen left to right quickly and it spins it. Not sure if you can turn it off though.
Thanks got the weather off the lock screen.. so easy i missed it.

exactly, right after you pull the ring you get an animation ending at the home screen. that is what i would like to disable.
It's called the carousel, and I don't think there is a way to disable it at the moment.
If you really want it gone you can always get a different launcher!!

This is your best bet. Something like Launcher Pro or ADW sounds like it would suit your needs and wants better.
I have been running on CM7 with ADWEX for on the OG EVO for a while now... and was really enjoying the new sense. It is very fast on this phone. Really i have no complaints about sense other than i like no animations and sh!t to fly up on the screen with some urgency.
On second thought I think the ring sucks too.. I liked the old 2.3 sliders.. its not a deal breaker though..
cheers

holy **** do I hate that ring....that's an easy one. just get es explorer or root explorer or whatever and navigate to /system/app and rename the htclockscreen.apk to htclockscreen.bak (or whatever it's called) and reboot. poof, sliders.

SPB mobile shell 3d! It is finally here; I've given it a try, and I must say I like it. However, the $15 (£~10) price tag is a little steep.

Does it run fine, no lag?
Maybe I'll say it, I guess I will: This thing looks like it struts its stuff more hardcore than Sense.
Yeah, how does it run? $15 is pretty steep..but it looks pretty intense compared to the other home replacements.
I was playing with it a bit on my CM7 legend, and it ran super smooth. Not sure what's it's battery impact or anything was since I was running what shall be considered a trial version, that wouldn't stay as the default home screen so only had it going for a few minutes. But like usual SPB makes a nice program and runs it at way above average cost for what it is. Might still get it later not sold on it yet though. Oh not sure if it says it anywhere but it seems to kill live wallpapers.
It doesn't support live wallpapers for 'performance issues'. It runs very smoothly though, but I've noticed that when you open the app drawer it sometimes freezes for a few seconds. Generally, it seems very good; just as eye-pleasing as sense, but smoother, and I especially like the 3d carousel and the folders. Android folders where always a bit rubbish, but the folders on this thing are as good as in iOS, only you can have an unlimited number of apps in each one!
$10 would probably be a better price for it - that's still quite a bit compared to other Android apps, but the developers have clearly put a lot of effort into this.

I'm utterly confused by this statement...what makes iOS folders so special? Other than it looking pretty when you open it.
I was almost sold on it until I figured out icon and widget placement is just like iOS, ie you can't put them anywhere. That totally kills my layout scheme.
Well, I had a go. $15 is way too much for this. It's not what I'd call a "phone changing" app. I'll stick to LPP

That's all I meant - the Android folders are quite ugly. I've always wanted a cross between iOS and Android, like MIUI, and this just about achieves that.
And yes, that is slightly annoying!

I've made the "mistake"...and have paid. The shell lasted on my phone 1 hour. Maybe it's just me, but when returning from each application launched or other screen besides the home screen, I got a BLACK one instead of the homescreen. I had to touch the screen (or press back button) once again to get the proper screen. I wrote to support, they asked me to reinstall it. I did and it's the same. So getting a black screen each time I'm supposing to be back at homescreen does not convince me at all.
That was the biggest drawback for me. There was no lag though when scroling through carousel or when playing with the menus. Other things I didn't like were the lack of widget resizing support or some other stuff I got used to from ADW Launcher/EX. The switch widgets (for WiFi/BT, etc) were not so customisable, same goes for the widgets on the screens. I was not able to set the alarm appl to be launched when pressing the clock (I use Alarm Clock+ by default), or the SMS application, or the dialer. These are things I didn't like at all, especialy from a 10 EUR/15 USD launcher. I've expected too much I guess. Back on Launcher 7 or ADW Launcher EX. Oh...I almost forgot to mention that the "auto arrange" setting for icons, widgets and so on, pissed me off alot. Could be that I didin't find where to deactivate it, but usualy I want to arrange things on my screen myself.
Good job guys...Marketing deserves it all. They convinced me to buy it...the application itself didn't.

This is a cyanogen issue, no problems for other roms.
@Rapier. As the guy above me pointed out, this seems to be a issue with CM. The same thing happened to be, but flashing Blayos Rom solved it.
I'm actually very happy with it, I think it looks great and the speed is awesome. The only thing I don't like is the shortcut auto arrange.
Sent from my HTC Legend using XDA App
Too bad then. And to understand better, you're talking about the "black screen issue" right?
Still there are some other things that I don't like (I've pointed them out in my post) and I don't think they're CM related. I'm not sorry about the money, but I will not change CM ROM for this. If SPB will work on CM ROM, great, I'll give it another try...till then, I'll stick with Launcher 7 or ADW Launcher EX.
Don't missunderstood me...SPB IS GREAT. Really. I had it on my HTC Diamond (an older version) and it was the best launcher I've ever used on that phone. But after switching to Android and playing with ADW, Launcher Pro and others, I just feel it more "restricted" and offering fewer options, especially when talking about a much higher price. The interface is neat, has a lot of things, but going deep under it's hood is not allowing you to customize it as much as other launchers. Most of the widgets are limited in functionality and do not allow many customizations. But it may be a perfect match for someone looking for basic functionality and usage of standard apps.
Hi
I just purchased a legend having stock 2.2 Sense on it (Vodafone). When I try to goto SPB Shell Home, it shows that SPB Shell is loading, but then nothing happens
Any suggestions?
Yes I'm talking about the black screen issue. I agree with you, it's not worth changing roms over. I actually use Blayos Rom regularly, just happened to test it with CM. So its not a big deal for me. I also think the lack of customization is a bummer, but I'm happy with it for now. In a month I don't know. Also for me 15 dollars ain't that much, that's barely one dinner in Norway

This question may be hard to explain, so if I am doing a poor job at explaining, please let me know, but right now I have a rooted Thunderbolt (Das BAMF Remix 1.6.3) and I am using WidgetLocker. When I unlock my phone, I like how sometimes it just go straight to the homescreen with no transition, but sometimes it does that 'zoom out' transition where the screen gets smaller as it zooms out into the homescreen. I tried looking all over in the preferences of WidgetLocker but I cannot seem to find where I can make it so there is no transition and the lock screen goes straight to the homescreen... I also looked at my LauncherPro preferences to see if I can stop the homescreen from transitioning from the lockscreen (maybe that is where the problem lies). I could not find anything and was wondering if there was a way to make it so the lockscreen/homescreen do not transition when the phone is unlocked? Any help is appreciated - thanks!
Bump - if I need to clarify, let me know, because I sometimes do a piss poor job at making sense of my words, ha.
Hmm.. does it do that without widgetlocker?
It could possibly be just part of the structure of the Rom.
Mine, when I unlock, has the fade effect.
Would that be what you're talking about?
Sent from my ADR6400L using XDA App
Possibly? It looks like when I unlock, sometimes it goes right to the homescreen, which I like, or sometimes it looks like the lockscreen background (which is different from the homescreen background, maybe I should have clarified that earlier, sorry) zooms away into the homescreen background, which looks awful. I feel like it is trying to transition, but since they are different backgrounds, it looks weird unless I can change that. Is that better or is my explanation still a little confusing?
From what it sounds like, its just the lockscreen app you are using, just having a different wallpaper. Have you tried changing both to the same or is it something else?
I believe I know what you're talking about with how the lockscreen seems to "slide" away so to speak?
It did that with me when I used lockscreen apps
Sent from my ADR6400L using XDA App
Yeah, I am using WidgetLocker, which a lot of people told me was great, and so far I really love how customizable it is. I would like to keep it both different (I have a sort of theme going on and it wouldn't work right if they were different), but yeah, the lockscreen just sort of zooms away and the homescreen flies in (the background does not necessary fly in but the top notification bar and the icons fly into place). I feel that there is a way to make it so there is no transition or anything like that, but I cannot seem to find it, ha.
Not really sure. That's just how the system works I believe. It's basically an app transitioning to another app. (Which can be disabled in phone display settings)
So let me know how it goes because I have been considering about getting widget locker too haha.
Sent from my ADR6400L using XDA App
Hmmm... Your post actually gave me an idea and I switched that Animations from "All Animations" to "Some Animations." I have no idea if this will work or not, but I will let you know.
EDIT:
"Some Animations" made it go away - thanks to everyone who helped!
this would complete the evo3d i dont know why is not added towards display>animation but ive noticed the motorola photon 4g does.
Use adw launcher pro, I love sence but I also love landscape mode haha you get way more options to customize your screen and set it (your screen) to what ever suits your needs brah. But since we now have a new kernal I think we can work on landscape mode for sence.

its to expensive y would you pay 15 bucks for something like spb shell, adw launcher ex is awesome, you get great themes with amazing icons, besides you can use beautiful widgets, i had spb shell and it was a waste of money. my opinion thoo, give them both a try and c what you like bro if you like the carousel and landscape mode with awesome icons go with adw..
+100 for adw ex. Been using it since it came out and have tried A LOT of others and nothing
compares (in my opinion, of course). Some people also swear by launcher pro(plus).
But $15 is WAY to much for spb shell imho. Its not even that nice.
I know they have something like this in the default browser of the internet if you type "default:config" or something like that....I'm pretty sure that's not the command, but there's a setting in the advanced part and its just an animation.

Is about:debug and just check smooth rotate but it won't give you nothing close to the iPhone or iPad rotate animation , thats one of the things the make ios seems faster and less blocky, that's one of the things I hated in my honeycomb tablet, looks worse in bigger screen , then a phone , Idk why Google don't work in effects I mean I don't think is hard to do them

Is there not a way to get this animation in as a default, as i really like Sense 3.0 and would not want to hop onto another home launcher just for this feature.
As of now when we rotate the screen the browser/apps flash and go landscape, would be nice having that rotating animation in like the honeycomb tablets and iPhone.
PS. what's this 'config:' thing? i remember doing it on htc Desire but it only gave me certain advance options, and not a animation section

you can go landscape with spb as well located on its home launcher settings
Go Launcher Pro ftw
Guys, guys, guys (and possibly girls)! The question wasn't "What's a launcher that allows for landscape mode?" It was "how can I get rotation animations ala iPhone?" I can confirm launcher pro and ADW launcher do NOT have this feature. From what I understand, it was removed just after 1.6 and it wasn't "possible" with the new graphics framework put in for Android 2.0.
That said, I have noticed that most of the motorola phones that have come out in the past year have them so I don't know why HTC can't have them. It might be something that needs to be implemented on the manufacturers side or it might be a hidden feature of the OS now. I have been looking for this for the Evo 4G and now the Evo 3D (I own both) to no avail. I will try this SPB shell and report if and report how well it works.
Tried SPB Shell 3D. No dice. Cool interface but that's about it. Hopefully Ice Cream Sandwich keeps the honeycomb animation and integrates them into the stock phone interface.
I did the about:debug on the stock browser and now it has a rotation animation but it's only limited to the browser (good for now though)
One question: now that I've got the smooth rotate on, how do i remove the debug options so they don't show up when i click menu or go settings in the browser?
Thanks

So I decided to try tablet mode just out of curiousity. I read that it makes non-sense launchers smoother. Well it does. For sure. Maybe not much but its enough to make go launcher Buttery smooth. So another thing I noticed is battery life? It increased? It could just be me but I find it odd that it was such a notocable difference. I'm sitting at 73% after a full days work in a building that barely gets reception. Usually by this point I have 50% left. So this left me wondering, could systemui have been poorly coded by HTC to the point where it drains a lot of battery? I know it seems ridiculous but I implore some one to try it before they say I'm crazy. Only because I may well be. Haha. So my question is, is there a way to get tablet mode to run on ics without forcing 192 dpi. Honestly the whole phone seems more usable and the quick settings I need are already in the stock ics notification bar. And whatever was missing I have in there using power controls a free app on the market. There must be some kind of edit to force tablet without going to 192 dpi.

That's what I'm talking about! Tablet mode has been my daily for the longest time and I agree that it definitly helps out with battery life and with smoothness of launchers (especially Apex!). Sadly there is no way just yet of getting the phone to run Tablet mode without forcing the DPI to 192. I know that the Galaxy nexus has their ways of doing it, I tried getting it to go myself and no luck so far. One thing I want to get working is the Pop-up screen when you connect to the PC.

Usually it depends on the App that you use to change the dpi, plus you need a launcher other than sense installed (you can have sense and something else like Go, ADW, or Apex.) I use the App call LCD Density Modder (Icon is a Monitor with a blue screen). Also It depends on the Rom that you are using as well. Some Rom's do not have the Icons in the SystemUI.APK to support Tablet Mode (Especially Sense 4 ROMS). As long as you meet all those steps you should be able to get it working with minimal problems. As stated above the only problem I run into is getting a force close when connecting phone to PC, the Pop-up that lets you select your connection mode doesnt work, you have to set your default connection type to whatever your going to use before connecting, and set it so it doesnt ask you what you want when connecting.

You cannot do this on any sense 4 based Rom. You need an ics sense 3.6 to be able to do it. Plus you MUST have a different launcher other than sense.

Hey man sorry for the delay, So the notifications quick keys is an app called "power controls" it is free and it's honestly pretty great. if you check the settings of the app there is an option to have the power controls stay in your notification bar. go into the app from your launcher and put a check mark in the box for notification widget. then click the pin. then click the slider looking button and you can check off which buttons to add. Closest I've come to CM7 settings in drop down.
it uses the built in accessibility features of ics to do it. this and SlimRom or any variant is the closest I have been able to get to AOSP. throw that in with tablet mode and GO-SMS stripped of all their special features except themeing and you're pretty much there. I may try GoContacts as well but the last time I did (with my evo shift) it was laggy so I haven't bothered yet. Especially since this device as a whole is waaaay more laggy then my shift in every regard. I can't imagine it would play well.
Also for standard DPI the GoKeyboard is quite nice and responsive, much more so than AOSP. These are of course my personal feelings so it may just be perceived and not reality. I used to hate GODev stuff... but since getting this phone it's the only way to get what I want out of the UI. Even their launcher is shockingly smooth with 5 screens and APW scrolling widgets on 4.
I've been dealing with the small fonts. it's irritating but what can you do. Every view even down to the Gmail app is more useful to me in tab mode.

Thats amazing, i'm going to have to check out that app for myseslf. Thanks for the heads up though on that! Small fonts are easy to evercome, but only if the
Rom you are running Tablet Mode on has the Font Size in the Display settings. What does your app Drawer look like with Go Launcher? Is it regular size or does it put like 30 apps on 1 screen?

you have to set the launcher to have larger icons. Not "large" mind you. A custom larger amount. depends on your preference.... then change the icon spacing to a larger amount. I think I did 7 columns and 8 rows. For the record I couldn't find go sms in the app store so I downloaded it online somewhere just google gosms.apk it's a free app so this is not stealing. honestly I can't wait for AOSP. I would probably take it in it's unfinished form even (just 1x and wifi.)
So I have a question about lock screens. I recently installed SOS M Rom and I love it. However I really dislike the lock screen. I have to unlock the phone to answer the phone and I don't see my messages / emails from the lock screen. Now I'm not blaming the ROM in any shape or form. I am just wondering about a few things.
1.) If I run an app such as Widget Locker does this tend to slow down the phone or use a ton of memory?
2.) IS there an App that I can install that works similar to the MIUI lock screen? I tried running the MIUI launcher but it doesn't really offer a password lock and I really would like a password locked phone.
Thank you for any input you can provide
I use widget locker, works perfectly

Does this show who is calling without unlocking the phone or show your text messages?
I've been using agile lock and I enjoy it
Magic locker was doing good for me till I got on nonsense from.

What is nonsense from?
Ics Nonsense 4.0 gsm rom,
I do apologize.

Its ok, nothing to apologize for. I was just not sure. I spent most of my Android life on Cyanogen on an Evo (the first one) and pretty much never changed. I'm basically having to relearn everything over from scratch on this phone. The SOS Rom I'm on is SOS M No-Sense, so I don't have the Sense UI, which to be honest with you suites me fine. The only thing I am missing is the friend stream and the ability to lock my phone and still answer it.
I actually did try the MIUI lock screen that comes built in with the MIUI launch and fell in love with it, but for some reason even when I put in a PIN, Pattern, Lock, Face Lock, etc it just won't lock, which is bad because sometimes I do have to leave my phone off my person and really hate the idea of just leaving a running phone laying in a locker somewhere.
If you're looking for security, I don't know what to tell you, but I love the Sense lock screen.
You've said that you don't like sense, but Sense 4.0/4.1 are pretty legit. Some of the features and methodology was lost on me at first, but it's actually grown pretty heavily on me. Especially with some useful tweaks.
The Sense lock screen has it all for me though. It displays text messages, has short cuts, can display weather and social network updates. It's actually pretty customizeable, as far as stock ROMs go.
