I was flashing my Vibrant back to the stock ROM using ODIN, and I had the re-partition checked off... and I think this is what killed my vibrant. If I click the power button it doesn't do anything. It has a full battery and even with it on the charger... still nothing. I can't see anything on the screen. What are my options to fix my Vibrant?

not a single button is working, either JIG i have it, what can i do?
Sorry to disappoint you; it seems that you are out of luck. I was flashing my Vibrant in the similar situation like yours and my phone has never turned on again since then (6 weeks). I live in Thailand and have been searching both English and Thai version for a solution. None comes up so far. The only way the USB jig will help is your phone can be powered up. I have tried that myself. You can look for the confirmation elsewhere in this forum. Any way if you can find a diy solution, please let me know and I will post it here if I can find one myself. Thanks!

they bro, i appreciate that your trying to help the guy but read.
the title states its a "HARD BRICK" meaning it will not turn on. If the OP has enough sense to name the thread its a HARD brick, then i'm sure he knows what a hard brick is. All solutions your leading to cannot be done AT ALL. The phone is a paperweight, you cant do anything but 2 things:
@OP
Do one of these 2 things:
1) build a JIG costs around 10$ a bit more or a bit less. but no over than 15$
(search JIG for vibrant on youtube by mobiletechvideos)
2) Send it to tmobile.
I hard bricked my phone 4 days ago.
I called them, and their sending in a replacement, and i send them mine and im done.
It cost me 10$ for shipping and handling but thats it.

Your first option is out because I have tried that. The only option left is the second one. since I live in Thailand, I have to ship the phone to my friend in Los Angeles to have him replace it for me. It is costly, but at least I will get a phone to work.
It seems to me that this issue is a special case that doesn't happen very often. Only the chosen ones will get into trouble like this when making an error here and there while flashing rom.
I had an IPhone 3G before and, of course, I made mistakes while updating it with all kinds of firmware, but the hardware never fails on me no matter what I did.
Thanks all who try to help.

Just because he put hard bricked in the title means little. It was his first post. He very well could be a aviid user. All I could go by is he said he hit power and nothing happend thats about all he said over and over. No battery pull 3 button try. So what I did was try to help thats it. I did not suggest anything to make matters worse. A lot of ppl thought their phones were "hard bricked" but they got it to come out of it. Just because your more of a wiz then most ppl here. I would appreciate if you would get off my back a bit for I was just trying to help.

I'm not getting on your back, why is it you think so?
Most of the users as i've encountered don't have the sense to name their threads appropriately, the OP on this one specifically named it HARD BRICKED, so instead of telling him to do all these instructions, you could've asked 1 thing "when you plug your usb, or wall charger, does it show any lights? or Are there any symbols on the screen? any lights glowing?"
Those 2 questions could've saved him, and you time.
Trust me i'm a beginner as well, i just know how to get out of these because i've been with this problem a few times. Alot of people here know more than me, specifically s15.. idk his full name.
Hi XDA, firstly wow...great site, lots and lots and lots of info, seems like a great community.
My phone: SGH-T959 (Samsung S Vibrant)
My issue: After flashing Axura 2.2.7 my phone doesn't turn on...at all...ever!
History: I'll say up front that I'm a long time android user with a technical background (Windows, Cisco networking, light Linux, etc) but first time rom flash experience. I bought a used SGH-T959 off Ebay, came stock with android 2.1 stock, I used Samsung Kies (straight off the official site) to upgrade to android 2.2. Well the phone slowed down, a lot. I felt ready to try my hand at flashing a Rom.
I first did a lot of reading, got Odin and my 2.1 and 2.2 stock files, flashed to 2.2 just to get a little comfortable. Worked fine. I charged my battery to full and then started the process of rooting my phone, again worked fine. I then updated to E2 boot loader (if I remember correctly) so I could work in recovery mode. I rebooted for good measure after going to E2 and all was still well.
**Issues incoming***
Using Clockwork I rebooted into recovery, flashed Axura 2.2.7 and the phone froze. Almost in a panic I pulled the battery and the phone was fine, still in stock 2.2. I booted to recovery again via Clockwork and attempted to flash Axura again, completed this time so I rebooted. That's the last time my phone did anything but look like a shiny rock. Will not power on.
Things I have tried:
* Holding many, many different combos of buttons after reinserting the battery
* Bought a usb Jig off ebay, nothing happened when inserted (tried holding many different combos of buttons while inserting it and while inserting the battery)
* Holding many, many different combos of buttons after connecting the USB cable to my computer with known good USB drivers (from when I used Odin)
* Used a known good battery from another T959 phone (co-worker that has same phone)
* Just for kicks I registered the device with Samsung, had two days left on the one year manufactures warranty so shipped it back to them, they returned saying the phone had experienced water or corrosion damage and the warranty was void.
As to Samsung's response I would like some feedback as to the possibility (it was a used phone after all). Just seems very unlikely that the phone would die just as I flashed it...
I am at a loss, I would love to get some helpful hints, tricks or anything else I could possibly do to get my phone back into download mode. I feel confident that if I could get the phone to that state I could get the process right.
Tell me I didn't waste my money on a now dead phone, give me some hope.
your best option is taking it to repair shop
don't know the point of using kies. Don't think it's a necessary step.
try these instructions: http://rootzwiki.com/topic/605-guid...nja-apps-everything/page__p__11106#entry11106
You can probably start on step 2 since you have nothing to back up. This will bring you back to stock and try flashing again. I use these instructions all the time before i flash a new rom
Good luck and keep us posted
Thanks for the link, however as I said in my OP, I have used Odin before and am comfortable with it, the phone doesn't turn on, aka no download mode)
It seems Jtag repair is my last hope (unless anybody gets creative and surprises me), anybody recommend one?
I searched and found one for $40 - mobiletechvideos.mybigcommerce.com/samsung-vibrant-jtag-brick-repair
Anybody review or offer an alternative?
TRY THIS
1) pull the battery out
2) plug ur usb wire to ur pc and ur phone
3) hold volume up+ wolume down
4) insert the battery in
GOOD LUCK...
try to odin back to stock
1. Start Odin
2. Plug USB cable into pc
3. Power off the Phone.
3. Pull the Battery.
5. Plug USB cable into Phone.
6. Press and Hold: Volume UP + Volume DOWN + Power, all at the same time.
7. Re-insert the battery.
8. The phone will power now, when the screen starts a cycle of going to a BLACK screen, release ONLY the POWER button.
9. When you see the download icon release the volume buttons,
10. Odin back to stock by putting the PIT file into the appropriate area and the .tar in the PDA area.
Or try that same method without holding the power button, just the volume rocker (up and down) when plugging into usb that works for some ppl
The vibrant is tough to hard brick so keep trying
I'm not really aware of the "E2 Bootloader" link maybe.... The only bootloader that I'm aware of is the Gingerbread bootloader. Either way I just posted this maybe it will be of help to you as well.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=19481353#post19481353
Keep in mind to have ODIN up when trying to get into download mode, if the phone screen is dead the only way to know you are in download mode will be the yellow box in ODIN when your device connects.
Good luck!
did you try with the battery IN:
volume UP + HOME key + POWER......?
I don't really see many people mentioning that option for DL mode....
Want to say thanks to everybody for the sugestions.
At this point after trying all the above and many more, I'm still dead in the water, I'm deciding between the $40 unbrickable mod install + flash to stock and the $40 JTag fix repair from mobiletechvideos.com
Anybody have experience with either service?
No, but this could be throwing good money after bad, however scorpn on the tw web site has a 8.00 roughly jtag, on a blackscreened brick it may not work. But it might, probly shouldnt be pimping another website, but thats where it is.

The only experience I have is a JIG. Have you seen his youtube channel? He has a lot of good info. He really knows his stuff. I learned how use ODIN and the FFC Mod from his videos. I think he has a video showing how to fix your phone or if you ship to him, he will fix it for you.
Try send a PM to him...his username is "connexion2005"
Let me know what happens or if you were able to fix your phone....

Yeah, if it were a straight $40 I would just dump the phone, bite the bullet and purchase another device. However on the site it says if the phone ends up being non repairable there is only a $10 charge to cover return shipping.
If I can install the unbrickable mod for $40, flash it back to stock, ship it back to me then I can drop whatever rom I want on it, all the while being able to use unbrickable mod apps to one click restore it...sounds worth a $10 loss chance to me.

Hi
My power-button is broken.
Do you know any way to tun the phone on without it?
Any "trick" and special-combination to press?
Thanks a Lot
Francesco
A jig should get you into download mode (assuming there's nothing else stopping the phone from booting) which should enable you to flash stock firmware & get the phone back to a somewhat 'original' state. From there you can send it in for warranty service (assuming the busted home button is a hardware issue) & hope you get said service (definitely possible, but never a given).

OK. So I take it you've never flashed a non-stock rom or kernel & that your flash counter isn't 1 or more ? Ahhh. You broke the button. Well I guess you're going to have to send it into Samsung & take pot luck as to whether they fix it under warranty. Or pay to have it repaired.
There's no way you're going to be able to easily switch that phone on with out your power button working. You're asking the impossible. You might be able to repair it yourself given screens can be replaced & other repairs can be carried out by users.
Do a Google search & see if there's a tutorial on how to replace the power button & what parts you might need.

He means you need to bridge the connections of the power button with a wire to make a circuit and see if the phone fires up. And I agree with DJ you've got some big cojones my son!

Use a jig to get your phone into download mode. Download Odin and flash either a kernel, modem or csc file (preferably for your firmware but not necessary). After about 10 seconds your phone will automatically reboot.

It's stuffed. Get it fixed under warranty. I'm not sure what the situation was when the button broke, but I hope that it is still solid in 1 piece so that it gets fixed under warranty. If it looks smashed, then they probably won't fix it under warranty.

Did you lose the actual button? If you have it it should still fit in the grooves on the back housing.
For now like I said earlier, download Odin and flash a modem and your phone will boot. Takes 30 seconds.
Edit: power button flex cable costs about $5 off eBay from China.

Ok. I thought you said you lost the button. Good that you haven't.
15 day wait is a long time wait. You have a few options here:
1) in the meantime make your own jig. There are instructions for it all over the internet.
2) most phone repair shops have them so maybe pop past and ask them to do it for you.
3) There is a thread in the general.section where fellow members will allow you to use their jig. There are plenty of users in most countries. Check it out.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1495867
I would also suggest buying one off eBay. Costs about $2 delivered.

Data on your sd card like pics, music etc on the memory card remain if you factory reset or flash a new firmware. Only your apps and settings get wiped.
Or you could flash a no-wipe rom like the current ics lpq. That way everything stays as is.

Glad you got it sorted. For future reference, internal memory is split. Approximately:
1gb system
2gb apps
11.5 gb other stuff like pics, media etc.
Factory resetting will wipe the system and apps. The other stuff remain on the card unless you format it from settings or recovery.

No boot, no download mode, no recovery = possibly JTAG or service centre. Or you could try King Rat's trick where he tries to 'jump start' the phone without the battery. Doubt it will work, but you might as well find/try it (search for his username & then search through his posts to find what I'm talking about).
Other than that, you don't really have any other options.

Mobile odin.. Yes too late... I want to test the jig USB dongle. I'll post in a few days if it worked.
Nevertheless i have to send it to the Samsung repair station

remark about your bad luck with home power when flashing.
It works again!
I sent it to the local repairstation. I told them after a firmwarebackup with samsung kies, my device had hang up.

No boot, no download mode, no recovery = possibly JTAG or service centre. Or you could try King Rat's trick where he tries to 'jump start' the phone without the battery. Doubt it will work, but you might as well find/try it (search for his username & then search through his posts to find what I'm talking about).
Other than that, you don't really have any other options.

sweet a user named after a trojan I wouldna bee surprised if that's the reason why the first flashing of the recovery failed but said success then once I tried it again re-partition magically prechecked itself to brick the device soft and then after not knowing what to do next and reading the phone shut itself off hardbricking it. Thank you kingRAT you made my day. Nice to know that I have to contend with people hacking my computer and installing stuff llike king RAT (or similar) to my system. Outstanding. So paperweight number2 great smashing wonderful great. And if this is considered flaming and deleted oh well I couldn't care less this time. You have no idea how much you just make it more of a challenge for me to kick you around next time. Im off but will be back. But not with soiftwae loaded on my system that much I can tell you,

I ordered one ages ago for another Samsung, it never arrived and they have just resent another one. Which was nice of them. I tried making my own but at the time I didn't have a multimeter so couldn't test the accuracy of the resistors I was using, I didn't see any documentation for the amount of leeway on either side where the jig would still work as intended or the consequences for using one that had different values. I live in a small town that only has one Radio Shack and they only carry multi-packs of resistors. I had to use a series of them soldered together in order to make up the 300k amount. Each multi-pack of 100 or 200 resistors have two of each resistance value, meaning the last 100k has to be made up of two or three separate ones. Also, because the tolerances were loose on the multi-packs they did have I couldn't check for the level of accuracy for each resistor. I made two or three jigs using varying combinations. On another project I did in the mid 1990's I remember seeing a difference of up to 3-4k with some 45k resistors from Radio Shack with the .25% tolerance values. I bought a pack of five 45k resistors and needed 47k I tested each one till I found the one that was closest. I remember the values distinctly because it was the first time I ever modified something (mid 1990's btw). Ironically, It was an old alarm clock/telephone combo and I liked its retro look, but its photocell was getting on making it a pain to be able to read during the day. You had to use a lamp or flash light to see the display. I took it apart and measured the resistance across the display panel when it was at the brightness level I wanted. Which was bright enough to see during the day yet still dim enough not too make it double as a green desk lamp at night, and swapped out the cell for the resistor.
Anywho, moving on maybe the jig will work maybe not I won't know till it arrives. I have a vague memory of having the same result (no power) happening on the other Samsung at one point, so I shelved it for a month or two, then one day gave it another shot and it powered up again. So maybe the same thing will happen again. Failing that I will just use the parts to fix another Samsung in the future.
Hi everyone,
I'm writing here cause I've got a really big problem with my lovely Samsung Galaxy S II: the mainboard stopped working.
The really big problem is that I don't know the real problem.
I have two SGS2, one black and one white. The one with motherboard issues is the black one.
I've tried to put the black's motherboard in the white phone but the phone doesn't turn on, neither with a full charged battery (I have something like 4 or 5 batteries for my Galaxys, so i'm really sure that isn't a battery problem) and neither with the usb jig (again, I'm sure that the jig works cause I've tried it on the white one and it works).
I've also tried to put the white's motherboard into the black phone and everything works well, so the black phone's mainboard is broken.
Here comes the problem: I don't know what it happened to the mainboard to break, the last time I saw my phone alive was when I looked at the time on the phone (I mean lockscreen, you know) and after I looked at it it turned off and never woke up (turn on).
Since my hardware skills are quitly good I tried to have a look at the mainboard itself, but it doesn't look damaged in any way, neither fired.
My first worry is about data, I've did a full backup of my phone 2 or 3 days past the damage but I wanna try to recover the latest data that are still stored on my phone.
I've also thought about order a new motherboard from ebay, but the data is still on the broken one, so it will be unuseful.
I attached to this post also 2 photos of the "broken" mainboard (front and rear, taken with my other Galaxy S2)
Any help will be appriced
Thank you in advance guys, I hope to recover data / fix my phone!
Couple of things:
1) This belongs in Q&A
2) What ROM where you on at the time it went off? What kernel?
3) You could try jTAG, 25-50 bucks.
4) The reason why it would be a guessing game, maybe some nasty Sleep Of Death, like those happening with the SIII.
5) Ask the mods to move this thread.

Thank you gastonw!
I read about the JTAG but didn't understood if I only need the JTAG itself (I mean, this => h t t p : / / w w w . gsm-technology .com/multicom/pimg/sam_i9100_400B.jpg ), or if I also need the RiffBox (what's the difference?)
Anyway, when it turned off the ROM on the phone was CyanogenMod 10.1 - 20130703 - NIGHTLY (obviously i9100)
Sleep of Death? I read about this, and the problem is: how can I determinate if the phone wakes up when I insert battery and Jig? I tought to use a voltmeter, but I really don't know where to place to avoid also short circuits.
About the thing to move the thread, yeah, sorry, I noticed just after I created the post. So, If any mod would read this, please move to Q&A
You can do both as you know your hardware.
Of course the smart choice here is to pay for the service instead of becoming the service by purxhacing the riffbox.
Before you do that hit the download combo without the battery (ask for an extra hand) and re insert it while your still hitting it.
When you plug it, does it get hot near the camera?

Again, thank you gastonw! I tried todo the download combo (VOL DOWN + POWER + HOME) while inserting the battery and nothing happened, near the camera the temperature is the same as before.
Anyway I still didn't understood a thing: could the JTAG operate itself or I need also to buy the Riffbox?
jtag is the service the riffbox (and such) provides.

I ordered a Riffbox from Ebay (fonefunshop, an official reseller).
I didn't wanted to pay for a service like "send your phone and we'll revive it" because I don't trust them and I don't want my data to be see from others.
Thank you for your support gastonw, I'll let you know when the RiffBox arrives if it works
Please do, if you can get the hang of it you will be able to help other people plus -maybe- get a buck or two
