I am looking at buying a evo 3D from a US seller on ebay, he states it is unlocked and will work in the uk.
Anyone know anything about this!
It will not use a simcard, if thats what you're asking sir
It's a cdma phone, not gsm
Not necessarily!
USA uses both GSM and CDMA.
Most phones there are CDMA, though. So you will need to ask him whether the phone uses GSM or CDMA.
GSM will work in Europe, CDMA will not.
Sprint phones are CDMA. The EVO 3D is CDMA in USA.
If his description has Sprint, The picture of the Evo has Sprint or the red rimmed camera, the seller is lying. Only the gold rimmed Evo 3D can work here & the UK/Europe in general (Rogers Canada is as local as you'll get, otherwise the seller imported it.)

I am in the u.s. and everyone here is correct. The EVO 3d that was released here is a cdma version. I to am looking for a gsm version but I want one for ATT bands.

The Rogers version has AT&T bands. As an aside, what UK network would a 850, 1900, 2100 HSPDA phone (i.e. the Rogers Evo 3d) work on? I have searched a lot and can't find a straight answer...
All of them but let someone correct me if im wrong
I have always bought unlocked HTC phones in London, new one every year, and never had any luck with 3G data in the US or Canada while it works with Orange, T-Mobile, and Vodaphone in the UK. So I figure something has to be different. Well, those were all two band 1700 and 2100 and were flat out missing the US bands, I am hoping in the UK would only need 2100?
would a GSM version of the phone bought from the US work in the uk? such as the one on this webpage?
http://negrielectronics.com/htc-evo-3d-gsm-unlocked.html
i.e. is the phone exactly the same as the GSM version that will be released in the UK? just wondering because it would be much cheaper if i could buy it from the US
That doesn't look right, the GSM version has a gold ring, not red, might be scamming

I'm pretty sure they don't make a US version in GSM flavor. So, technically, no...

This is just a generic pic. I have called negri electronics and they said they are getting gsm EVO 3ds but not 100% sure if it will be the Rogers version or not. But he also said it is a very high possibility that they will get the Rogers one that supports all ATT bands. Not sure if they were just blowing smoke. But he was very nice and understanding.

Negri is legit. Just hold tight or sign on with Sprint. They will be getting them in soon.
I am in the same boat but I am starting to think that Sprint might be a better option with insurance and better warranty support than buying it unlocked.

I live in Denmark (Europe), so the phone has not arrived yet, but when it does I am pretty sure it will be very expensive. The American version (Non Sprint) isn't that cheap either, but it is cheaper, so I have been thinking of buying one and then getting it unlocked.
Is this actually possible, when it doesn't have a SIM card? I found a website which will unlock the phone and I think actually give me the right network?
Website: htcimeiunlock.com/htc-evo-3d-unlock
Well this is just my question, is this actually possible?
Thanks and best regards

Yes it can be flashed to various cdma carriers. I.e. boost, metro, cricket .... Etc

but the short answer is no because your European carrier is most likely gsm and therefore not compatible with the CDMA Sprint EVO 3D

I do not understand why it's unlock-able, when it's still not possible to use it in other countries that use GSM. Whats the use in unlocking it then? Sorry, but I know nothing about this stuff.

I went to their website and seen what you were talking about. And you were correct that one will not get 3g as it has 900/2100 bands.
If you go to the EVO 3d gsm unlocked one it has the correct bands. But is actually on back order. When I got mine they had only received 2 units in. http://negrielectronics.com/htc-evo-3d-gsm-unlocked.html

The Canadian (TELUS) Amaze has absolutely no branding at all. The only TELUS "bloatware" is Skype and Rdio being preinstalled.

There are differences in the 3G bandwidth between the Telus's Amaze and Wind's Amaze:
Telus 3G = 850/AWS/1900/2100 (as shown on the box of my Telus Amaze)
Wind 3G = 1700 / 2100 (per Wind website)
If you plan to use the data service, better to verify your carrier's 3G service to ensure you select the right model. This thing is nice but not cheap so make sure to make full use of it.

Using the apn settings yes--at least 3g depending on carrier ability. TBH, I have never really cared for the BS 4g set-up based on FCC ruling. Bottom-line, if it works well it works for me.

Hi!
Using (unlocked) TMobile Amaze in Germany ( O2 Network which uses GSM 1800 sometime GSM900 and UMTS 2100 ) and can confirm that this one work here!
Only maybe network related issus so far are dropped signal / dropped calls / dropped data connection on 2G/GSM in areas without good coverage but think this is a phone/phone software related problem so what i have read so far...
I think that the other AmazeĀ“s are compatibile with the same bands because of using what i know so far exactly same hardware... also when u read tech spec on wind homepage they write:
Technical Specifications
Frequencies / Bands: 3G (UMTS/HSPA) AWS 1700/2100 2G (GSM/GPRS/EDGE) 850/1900/900/1800
So this one should also work!
I have chossen the TMob version because i was for holidays in nyc and it was cheap to buy it directly there without paying for shipment, customs and so an.... And also so far i know they are the only one how sell the white one?
Love the white and can live with the TMob logo.....
No, the other carrier's amaze's aren't the same as Tmobile's.
as stated earlier in the thread, Tmobile covers all 3g bands
Anyways the most helpful reply is this one

as you can see both carrier uses 2100 for 3g, see if telus uses 900 for their 2g. If it does, you can virtually use all carriers' models

Why is the Tmobile any better than the Telus model? In fact if you don't plan to root, the Telus model comes with virtually no bloatware. Perhaps the only negative is the lack of the camera software. And the Telus model has no branding, which is what the OP asked in the first place.
but you get all bands with tmobile one and unlockadble so i would say as a dev i would get tmobile one

Yeah I know what the op asked for, a few others and I pointed out that the telus and wind model works for his network, but he completely ignored it and said "so only tmobile work?" #facepalm
So I was like in whatevers mode and was like just go with the tmobile if you want to be safe, since it's virtually an international phone.
C'mon. I read the thread, but in hpacura's post he wrote all the networks except 900! But i need the 900 one here in my country? The wind amaze seems that it only has a 3G data connection?! Need 2G as well.
Have already rooted a lot of android (especially htc) phones, the amaze should be no problem..
Here is my issue. I am currently in the US. I might teach ESL overseas in Korea in January. I am not sure which phone to get. Will the USA one work over in Korea? Will thew international one work in the US?
It could work but Sprint has the radios locked.

The international one works in the US flawless... just not on all carriers... it works the best on AT&T if you want to use it in the US and get 4G(HSPA+)

It would work on most carriers which uses the international frequencies.
Not just AT&T for US. Works with Rogers, Fido, Telus, and Bell Mobility in Canada for instance.

Just a side note, HSPA+ is not 4G. It's still 3G. LTE/WiMax is 4G.
so which companies will it work with 4g/lte? Will it not work with Sprint? Anyone know any deals for the international version?
Sprint (and Verizon) is on an old CDMA network while the majority of the world is on GSM, you know, operating with a SIM card. If you're set on travelling, it's better to get any of the GSM-variant, that way, you can just pop in any sim card from any major carriers all over the world.
I currently have a photon which has a sim card slot in it. So the Galaxy s international wont work on Sprint? Damn I want to keep my SERO plan lol. So where can I get an international verison from? Also would I have to pay full price for it?
Does the photon has an active sim card in it? I'm assuming no. I've never used a dual-mode phone before (nor am I familiar with how they operate on different networks), so I dont know the ins-and-outs on how to get it activate for a GSM carrier.
Damn, now i have a headache just trying to figure out how it works to have an intl GSM phone on a network that is predominantly CDMA whom happens to offer a dual-mode phone on their network

The SIM in the Photon is just for roaming. Sprint does not use SIM cards - even their LTE phones have them embedded rather than user-accessible.
As the Sprint Galaxy S III is not a 'global' phone - i.e. does not have both GSM/UMTS and CDMA radios - do not purchase it if you have any intention of using it outside the US. CDMA is no longer a global technology.
Confuses me a little that people spend so much on devices without checking what networks they support. Ho-hum.

No. The AT&T one doesn't fully support T-Mobile while the T-Mobile one fully supports BOTH T-Mobile and AT&T.
For people who don't want CDMA-based service, the T-Mobile version is the best one to buy for compatibility.

This has been discussed to death on the boards.
All the phones have the same internal radio hardware but what's been flashed to each device is different.
i got a att version unlock, big mistake for tmobile. i flashed tmobile rom and radio. alot of places in new york i get 2G which it was constant 4G with my note 2. Place where i get 4G i only get 7mbps. while with my note 2 i was able to get up to 18mbps. Order the tmobile version will return this one. The only reason i bought this is because they had it locally in ATT store while tmobile htc one is on backorder and not avail in any store.
Unfortunately Samsung doesn't just make the same model for both I would imagine it would save them money also but att phones work slow on T-Mobile but other way around your golden
