I use wolf rom v3.8 and auto brightness function don't work. I checked other roms and it was the same. How can I turn it on?
u cant turn it on i think u need to try with power widget ..that has the auto brightness option ..works for me though, should for u too !!
Thank me if it worked !!
I used a lot of different power widgets and they show auto brightness icon, but nothing changes. Android Assistant widget has list of sensors available in phone and under Light Sensor I have: not support? wtf?

Lesmian, why don't you try ewjet rom? So far is the best rom out there.. smoother and faster and works flawlessly, including auto brightness feature.
Is auto brightness not working at all or you just cant find the option for it? Mine works fine but no option to enable or disable.

autobrightness always was VERY subtle on my x10i, it even works "better" on my ZTE Blade, so you may just not see it, the only time i really noticed it was when i was reading on the train and drove through a tunnel.

Hmm. Maybe its true that just not see it. But I did a couple of tests. I lower my brightness and then I put phone under lamp. Nothing changes. Then I increased brightness and cover sensor with my finger, still nothing changes. ;/

Auto Brightness
I may be able to add some insight into our auto brightness problem. I know it was disabled in 2.1 apparently. First question does anyone know if it was enabled in 2.3.3?
I am currently running a generic X10i with Virgin WB 4.0.4 ROM and DooM Kernel v04b. I use Juice Ultimate Beta v3.6.6. There is a brightness control in JD and I have noticed that on my phone it says brightness sensor unavailable.
The other thought I have is that maybe it is available in x10a's and not x10i's. This may explain the wide variations in people who have it working and people who don't. I have also tried the second step (e.g. larger cirle icon) of the brightness widget in WB's rom which is mentioned in the ROM thread that didn't enable auto brightness. My phone came with 2.1 installed and I have never had auto brightness. This may also be another reason.
I might try and flash 1.6 if I can find it and see what happens. Can anyone think of a reason why I shouldn't try this. I assume I would need to flash a 1.6 basband first.
Any more thoughts would be appreciated.

why every build claims to have light sensor works while it doesn't. I tried every build that says light sensor works. Well, that works only If I open an app call "Android Sensor Data", then I can see the light lux changes as well as the screen brightness, once close the app, the system just wont update the light sensor......
can anyone confirmed that it's actually working? like put the phone under a lamp and the screen will have full brightness?
No, it doesn't work properly... WiFi, data, G-sensor, battery, camera aren't good also. Bad luck...

why every chef says it's working then? Really confused, I tried at least 4 builds tonight, frustrating.....
it does work, but not properly. U need to enable "Automatically Blacklight Adjustment" under WinMo before boot into Android. Light Sensor works on fresh reboot, but after using android for awhile, and light sensor not working anymore. To get Light Sensor works again, u need to fresh reboot android again
thanks, will try. I am using chucky droidrom and can't find auto brightness option.
Lets just be thankful that we got android running on our phone...if you must have auto light, use winmo...

Thank u so much. I finally managed to find the registry key that controls auto brightness in chuckydroidrom, and now auto brightness in android works (for now)
BTW, I am thankful to the developers, however, thought they should clear things out instead of just saying "it works" and omit the part "how".
I googled all night, read carefully every 1st post in every build, couldnot find anything related, that's why I asked

I open phm registry editor in winmo(included in "tools"), search "backlight" in the current user section, u will find "backlight" under "control panel", there are several keys in it. change "lightDetectOn" to 1 and the screen brightness will change immediately according to ambient light.
launch android
PS. after some time, auto backlight stops working..... and I think the sensors still works coz when I open android sensor data, it reads normally, the system just ignore it after a while.
Thanks for the enlightment. How about in the Android,do you change any settings?
didn't change anything, just enable auto brightness.
can someone please tell me how to disable auto brightness on
x10i eternity rom build 003
i tried using every brightness app/widget possible to turn it off but as soon as i turn it off and put the phone under different light setting i can see that the auto brightness is still on
i tried using adjbrightness but it keeps telling me that my phone isnt rooted; anyone get this app to work on x10??
please help n sorry if this questions been asked and answered before. this forum is getting too big and broad sometimes to find anything
thx in advance
Have you tried Sparepart? (That's the name)
Strange, i can't seem to turn on my autobrightness. It used to work perfectly in android 1.6. And i haven't noticed it untill recently. When auto brightness is checked, it just stays the same, even when i hold it directly under a lamp. Maby there is a bug in the software that prevents switching it on or off?
I'd also like an answer to this problem, because with auto brightness on the telephone is a battery eater.. you have to keep it to the minimum level to disable it, but when you are under a strong light, like outdoor with a sunny weather, it's difficult to see your screen's details. as you select a brightness level different from zero, the autobrightness turns on and eats the battery.
I hope I'm missing the solution to this, and somebody will help, because all the applications i've tried (spareparts included) didn't worked.
I'm quite confuse now.....
What actually do we need......
Turn it on...
or
Turn it off...
LOL
heh, so some people want a way to turn it off and others, like me, want to find a way to turn it on?
what a crazy phone..
I'm sure there used to be a tick box in the display settings to turn on/off the auto brightness. Anyway, i've tried various applications myself to get it on but nothing does it. I think the best solution is for us all to swap phones .
Spare Parts doesn't work for me, i tried enabling it, restarting the phone and jumping under my duvet.. but it didn't change
Did you update to 2.1? It was disabled in 2.1 as far as I know.
So the easiest solution, upgrade to 2.1! Else, I don't remember the menu but it's somewhere in the settings under 1.6.
I think we've all updated to 2.1 here =)
and yes, in 1.6 there was a box to tick to unable/disable autobrightness.
But, in 2.1, this feature has disappeared, leaving a seekbar and a damned widget which doesn't allow you to set or no autobrightness.
Hi,
The autobrightness is still there. It can be turned on/of from a stock SE connection widget. The different state for brightness is "minimum" -> "auto" -> "maximum"

I can get, either 0%, or 100% brightness, with the ambient sensor disabled. Anything in-between, fades constantly.
No fix for this, i presume?
Reading websites while the screen fades in/out every couple of seconds drives me mad.
Ive never had any problem with it as long as you dont lean in front of it all the time lol.

OK been using adj brightness in the market and it was brilliant in brightness control. Unfortunately it doesn't work on the galaxy s2 and because my eyes play up, am finding the phone to bright for me especially when using it at night when lights are off, what alternatives are their to lower the brightness level please.?
For Amoled screens of any type "Screen Filter" seems to be the best.
I agree. Screen Filter seems to be excellent and can make the screen as dark as you ever want. (to a level that no LCD can ever go to imo)
Thanks guys it worked it is the best av seen so far.
I got mine sgs2 on Saturday and hadn't really thougth I would need an App to control this, the settings ont he power widget were good enough for me. However, I tried this out for a laugh and it works well. Will definitely use it at night time.
Although at the moment I am just enjoying the super brightness
Birghtness control from the notification bar
Can one still adjust the brightness by swiping the finger along the notification bar, like one did on the i9000?
Can one disable the automatic brightness from somewhere in the settings menu on the i9100 in the same way as the i9000?

Your location is marked as London, so I think that you ought to be able to write a non-nonsensical sentence in English. No offence, but this is unintelligible!

Hi Crypticc,
You misunderstood what I wrote.
1) I referred to a partially completed sentence:
" How I just tried dropped down and not" - not what?
2) You have confused the verb 'to swipe' with an application called Swype.
As I noted, you wrote your location was from London, yet that you are not a native anglophone; No problem, but I was a little confused in the beginning.
To summarize: Your reply confused me. You partially clarified what you wrote, and now I understand. Thank-you.
* Back on topic
In order to change the brightness by swiping along the notification bar, please ensure that you have turned off the automatic brightness adjustment setting in the menu. I do not recall the exact name. Then, it should work.
I think that this can be found in : Settings -> Display -> Brightness
Best regards.

Hey,
Updated from 4.2 to 4.3 hoping it was a glitch with 4.2 but my screen brightness flickers up and down what appears to be about 5 levels consistently (very fast, resembles a flickering) whenever the display is on. The brightness control also doesn't work, it has no effect on the brightness levels, you can slide it from one side to the other with no actual change.
This has an ill affect of draining the battery about 1% a minute when the display is on.
Anyone have a similar problem or know how to fix this?
I have the auto brightness unchecked and when enabled there is no change either.

When you flashed to 4.3 did you do a wipe? Have you tried a reset at any time? If you just updated without wipe it would have retained any previous settings or conflicts that may cause this.

If you have FC crashes try uninstalling and reinstalling the apps. That helped me with several like News and Weather and Newsstand and Drive.

Pretty decent nightly, had issue with backlight setting that messed up screen brightness after screen lock. Had to reflash, there was no way back. I would suggest people avoid playing with backlight setting for the meantime.

Just toght that the cm11 build did not get daily updates...
My Bluetooth is working fine, both to my Pebble watch and car.
I'm not sure what's up with backlight on this build. You have two options that seem to be the same on the DISPLAY settings, one says "Adaptive Brightness, Optimize brightness level for available light" and the other says "Adaptive Backlight, Dynamically adjust the brightness of the display's backlight to maximize battery life while maintaining usability".
The first one seems to adjust properly, and the slider bar does seem to set the upper limit for this level.
The 2nd one is a bit more problematic, I'm not really sure it works or how it functions in conjunction with the other one.
Anyone figure this out yet?
BTW I tried the full version of Lux with both of them turned off and it didn't end up well, the screen became so dark I ended up having to reboot and remove it.

Has anyone tried flashing the nightly after doing a complete wipe? Seems like many of the problems mentioned may be avoided by a clean install.
If someone has done a clean install, can you let us know if there are any bugs remaining?
Thanks

My understanding of the Z Ultra is that the kernel and recovery are both on the boot partition and are not actually separate. If you install TWRP or Philz you will wipe the CM12 kernel out and you won't boot, just be able to get into recovery. Those recoveries are built for stock/stock based installs where you can replace the kernel.
We will just have to wait for a good CM12 Recovery or boot to CM11 and use its recovery to backup /data and then reinstall CM12 before you boot up. I think I've seen that refered to hot booting recovery.
Please feel free to correct me if you are a dev and know more about this than me.

Had the same issue. Just leave the second one (adaptive backlight) enabled and the dark screen should stop. You can adjust the first one at will
