Tmobile UK firmware?? - Galaxy S II Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi all
Just wanted to ask if anyone has had KE7 through Kies yet?
Or higher versions?
Seems that KE7 is floating around . . .
Bit new to samsung phones. . .and didnt venture into rooting etc when I owned my HTC hero
my current kernel version is 2.6.35.7-I9100BOKF3-CL255512
Build GINGERBREAD.BOKF3. . .Is this newest firmware without rooting??

LOL, you have KF3, why you bother for KE7, which is an older version?
GB 2.3.4 is near, wait for it.
Regards.

As i say Im still new with it all . .. so is KE7 older then my current firmware??
Meaning I'm running current firmware without rooting of course. . .
When will 2.3.4 be out?

Of course KF3 is newer than KE7 sir.
If I am not wrong 2.3.4 will be out within this month.
Regards.

Just to clarify, even if 2.3.4 is released at some point this month by Samsung, based on T-Mobiles previous performance with updates its unlikely that a update for T-Mobile branded phones will be available anytime soon.

[Q] Kernel versions and roms

Sorry if the question is really really simple in advance!
My phone is currently
Baseband - I9100XXDJ
Kernel - I9100XWKE2
Build - Gingerbread.XWKE2
Now i've seen the various insecure kernels and a couple of roms, but the roms mention xwke7. so am I able to flash with a newer kernel or do i have to stick on the same kernel i have now. will me moving from ke2 to ke7 do anything to my phone apart from just update the kernel?
What i had hoped to do was:
- install villianrom
- install the stock ke7 kernel to improve battery life (mine is dreadful atm, i barely get 10 hours out of it in standby!)
- have new rom with root access
would i be able to do this? the phone is on O2 with the O2 boot animation and i've read its possible to flash back to o2 image if needed?
any help would be greatly appreciated
thanks

You update the firmware not just the kernel its all in one package .

Yes but you need to have saved to O2 rom .
Luckily O2 original rom is posted in the dev section .
Gingerbread 2.3.4 is rumoured/fact to arrive by next week in which case i would not update to KE7 ..
You can mix kernels and roms even modems and roms but that would be your choice ..

thanks for the advice
so if i wait to update to 2.3.4 what options do i then have?
instead of starting a new thread thought i would post here.
I am wanting to root my SGS2 and have read through the CF-Root thread.
Im just a bit confused/aprehensive as to the firmware. My phone says -
Baseband: I9100BOKD1
Kernal version: BOKE3
do i have to stick to the same firmware for rooting so KE3 over KE3 or can i just use the KE7 firmware to gain root?
Thanks
Your chice KE7 is later firmware but 2.3.4 due anytime may pay to wait .

[Q] newbie stock rom question

I've read the forums, but couldn't find an answer that I could understand, so I apologize in advance for my question.
I'm in the USA and purchased my SGS2 from overseas a few months ago. For now I would like to stay with a stock ROM, at least until there is a CM7 release.
My current info:
PDA: KF3
Phone : KE7
CSC: KD1 (XEU)
I plug the phone into Kies every once in a while, but I haven't gotten an update in quite some time. So, a couple question:
What region or company phone do I have? I'm guessing it is an unbranded UK phone.
Do I just keep waiting? I can read lots of confusing info about using Odin to load frankenstein roms.
I'm asking because the wifi on my phone does not seem to work well, and I've read that 2.3.4 roms have a fix.
Thanks in advance.

Correct XEU = UK
Do I just keep waiting?
YES

Unofficial path your choice may void warranty .

No fix as no WiFi problem though 2.3.4 or 2.3.5 modems may well work better /
KH3 2.3.4 modem stronger WiFi signal for some .

Yes, UK version.
If you want to upgrade through Kies you wont have to wait long as it seems that new XEU version KI4 will be out soon.

Its now probable that no further 2.3.4 updates will be issued by providers .
They will get the 2.3.5 release soon and in time release the update to Kies .

[Q] No 2.3.4 available on kies for me

Why can't I update firmware through Kies. Everytime I check it says "This is the latest firmware". It seems everyone else has had the option to update with kies for a while now, so why not me? Im on vodafone uk.
Current firmware:
Gingerbread 2.3.3
PDA:KG2
PHONE:KG1
CSC:KE2 (VOD)
Thanks

Garbage some have updated some phone providers have not updated and probably will skip 2.3.4 as 2.3.5 is rolling out .
for a while now, so why not me? Im on vodafone uk.
You need to ask Vodafone or take phone to Vodafone service centre see if they have an update .Vodaphone update the firmware and push it to Kies server .

Mostly but not always it all depends upon the phone supplier .
Thats why most XDA members go down the unofficial route and many are running KI3/8 2.3.5 .

Thanks JJEgan for your help.
As I got a vodafone branded sgs2 (locked with vodafone) would flashing XWKI8 or XXKI3 from Intratech's rom page be ok?
I read somewhere you should only flash unlocked phones.
I currently have my phone rooted with unsecure BUKG2 stock kernel, other than that its untouched from purchase.

Kies updates for different baseband versions

Hi guys,
I have a not rooted, unlocked sgs2 bought half a year ago that has I9100XXKI1 baseband version. I connected to Kies today wanting to update to Android 2.3.5 but the only version available is 2.3.4 which is already installed. Can anyone tell me why is that? I assume it has something to do with baseband version, but it's not really making sense to me right now. Aren't all sgs2 suppose to get 2.3.5 update? A colleague of mine bought an unlocked sgs2 a week ago and he was able to update to 2.3.5.
Best regards,
Sergiu

Updates are region dependant. Check the csc on your buddies phone, it maybe from a region which has already received 2.3.5.
THe area where your phone firmware may get an update in the future. Roll out is very uneven, some areas are still getting 2.3.3
Baseband has nothing to do with upgrade and baseband may not be updated for all firmware upgrades . Its normal top have an older baseband .
Kies updates from the codes on your phone that define product code and provider .
Your phone provider has to supply the update to Kies .Samsung have already supplied them with 2.3.5 .
As this is a developers forum few of use use the official upgrade path .

OR updated Kies and check for updates once new kies is installed..
Thanks a lot for your answers guys. The thing that's strange is that both me and my colleague have unlocked sim-free phones bought from the same country/region. Anyhow tomorrow I'm gonna check his csc to look for differences.
All the best,
Sergiu

like I said download kies from sammy homepage install connect fone and go from there since it seem you dont wont to flash offical roms via odin?
Well I thought about flashing the phone but I don't want to lose the warranty so I'm gonna stick with Samsungs updates for now. I have the latest version of Kies installed so this shouldn't be the problem. I also checked Sammy for region updates and for my region 2.3.4 is the last update. So probably my colleague has a phone from a different CSC.

ICS and factory unlocked GSII

alright. long story short i bought a factory unlocked GSII (from amazon) parallel import. it is the international version
there is no carrier bloatware. it currently has a vodafone australia SIM in it.
even though the ICS update for the GSII was released today in a few countries, does that mean i still have to wait? id check but i have to get kies to be able to sync to my phone first. working on that now
also, as far as i know, the phone was from france, and the modem firmware is for Poland. im quite interested in knowing some more info about this phone.. where it came from and info about it. here are the details
model number: GT-i9100
android version: 2.3.5
baseband version: i9100xxki4
kernel version: 2.6.35.7
cheers

via kies if its original firmware .
I suspect yours is not original kernel looks to be later 2.6 and phone 2.3

why would it not be a original kernel?
Just download firmware from this thread
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1075278
use Odin for update according to the instructions in the beginning of that thread.
The standard XXLPQ-version should work fine for you (installed it myself yesterday).
There are no problem with your kernel, JJEgan is usually right, but this time I believe he replied too fast
(mixing up Linux kernel version with Android version)
And if you want root, then install correct CF-root kernel from this thread :
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1103399
The important thing is that you have the standard international version of SGS2 (i9100), and that seems to be the case. None of the firmwares in the thread above will brick an i9100...
