How do I format my sd card? - HTC EVO 3D

When I go to Menu - Settings - SD & phone storage, the option to Erase SD card isn't selectable. How do I enable that option, or what other options do I have?
TIA

Formatting/recovering a microSD card

Hey All,
I made the mistake of "recovering" my external 32GB microSD card on my Galaxy SII in OSX Disk Utility to try to make it a Mountain Lion Disk image.
Now it doesn't appear when I enable USB file transfers, and when I press "Mount USB" in System->Storage it says "Preparing SD card" but nothing happens.
Is there any way to recover this microSD card or is it bricked? I've tried booting in to CWM recovery and formatting /emmc, but to no avail.
Thanks!
What if you format it as fat32 on the computer?

You have to plug it back into the mac, and do the following:
run the disk tool from finder menu -> utilities
select the sdcard in the disk tool, choose partition , choose settings on there and select "master boot record" choose 1 partition in the drop down menu, then select "fat" in the format options, and let you mac do its work ... now you can mount it again in your android phone
FWX
(if that doesnt help, msg me, and ill help you fix it another way)

Unfortunately the external mini SD card no longer appears at all. The internal one does, of course, but thats always appeared as a separate disk, and is much smaller in size.

SD Card and HTC Storage problem

After unlocking my bootloader and flashing Aman Recovery, I can't access my external SD card through my computer. Instead my phone gives me access to HTC Storage. Any ideas on how I would go about fixing this?
When I plug in, I get HTC storage and external SD mounted separately.

Usually three things pop up on the computer. internal sd. removable sd, and a CD thing.
I rename the ISO file in /system/etc to eliminate the CD popup (requires root)
Maybe try reinstalling the HTC drivers on the pc and reboot the computer.
Also check that your phone is not in charge-only mode when connected to the computer.
I reinstalled the HTC drivers and had no success. I can access my SD card through my phone, i.e looking at pictures in Gallery. However I still get HTC Storage and a CD drive thing.

when the phone is connected to the computer you should see a special icon on the top of your screen. if you pull down on the notification screen you should see if it is in charging only mode, or if it is allowing sdcard disk access. the access can easily be changed.
but if you see nothing special in the notification area then you have a bad cable, bad phone, or a pc problem.
When I choose disk drive I'm still getting HTC Storage and no access to my external SD card. Is there a way to switch memory access?
if you get access to the internal sd, then look in it for a folder called ext_sd which points to the removable sd card

Insure that the usb option is checked for cd drive
also the power option fastboot is off
I think there may be another option but the old man has a senior moment.

Internal SD Card undetectable/corrupted after by mistake click format and cancel it !

- First of all I admit it's my fault I wasn't paying attention..
- Second, I'm not sure if this is the right section to post this here, So pardon me..
- I was connecting my SGSII using the internal SD card as a USB mass storage.. a the same time I was connecting my Kingston USB flash drive.
- I wanted to format the Kingston flash drive and because I wasn't paying attention, and By mistake I right clicked on the SGSII internal SD card-> format->changed the file System from FAT32 to NTFS -> pressed start.
- It didn't take me long before I realized what I just did and more stupidly pressed the cancel button and unplugged the phone immediately.
- Now phone works fine but won't detect the internal SD card
- Phone used to auto-mount the SD cards automatically when connected to PC
-When connect it to the PC , It detects and mounts the external SD card and I can access it normally , But not the corrupted internal SD card appears as Drive ( J ) but when I click it, I get ( please insert a disk into removable Disk (J
- I'm unable to format or detect the internal SD card except it is shown as Drive (J) on the PC
- tried to re-mount it using CWM in recovery mode but no joy as well..
- Please skip the blaming part on how stupid I was and please advise if there is any possible way to fix this, make the Internal SD card detectable and mountable again.. then I worry about recovering the files..
try this, go to settings> more> USB utilities> click 'connect storage to pc'> click ok > connect USB cable> then click turn on. this should mount it hopefully and you will be able to reformat it to fat 32..hopefully!
Thanks for your reply, I've already tried that with no success
- However Issue is now resolved
- I tried again with CWM in the recovery mode, I tried random things such as try to re-partition the SD card..
- And when started the phone and tried to connect to the PC, got notification that SD card is corrupted and was able to format it
- Although now data is lost but now SD is detectable again..
- Now I worry on how to recover the lost data

Can't un/mount SD Card, but still usable

Hello,
I am trying to remount my SD Card, so I could fix the "Couldn't Install on USB Storage or SD Card" error on the playstore.
But the problem is that when I try to unmount it on Settings > Storage, options are greyed out and I cannot press it.
So if I scroll down on the storage settings and I go to the SD CARD section, it shows the Total Space which is 1.84GB, and available space, which is also 1.84GB. Doesn't that mean my SD is in fact working correctly? The only option I see is Mount SD Card. But that option is grayed out and I can't press on it.
I have tried formatting the SD card from my computer to FAT32. Still same problem.
I can also put movies, music etc onto the SD Card, and yes they work.
Now i'm just confused on why I can't remount my SD Card.
Any ideas?
thanks

Samsung Galaxy A3, A5, A7 (2017) Adoptable strorage (use SD card as internal storage)

By default Samsung disabled the option to allow a user to use a microSD card as internal storage. This is very bad especially on devices that come with only 16 GB of internal storage.
Not happy? You can understand the gravity of the situation and complain to Samsung about this
:crying: HERE
Adoptable storage is a standard feature in Android Marshmallow but gets disabled by most manufacturers in their attempt of forcing users to throw more money on devices with more internal storage.
What are the changes with Adoptable Storage?
the SD card gets encrypted and encryption key is stored in internal device memory
the encryption makes the SD card read/write operation slower than otherwise
disables the normal use of SD card by swapping it in other devices (unless you select a percent of SD card to be kept as a removable partition)
can slow down the loading time of some apps, including installing them
some confusion is created in the device's total available memory reporting and memory usage reporting
In order to enable Adoptable storage you need to have custom recovery installed on your device. This will blow the e-fuse in the device, trip Knox, and you will loose warranty for the device.
Put the ZIP attached below on your SD card and flash it. This is an Add-on will make some changes to Android OS core to enable Adoptable Storage option, the one on which Samsung putted it's will to remove it.
The device will restart (if not you can restart it manually). Now you should remove the SD card, and delete the partitions from it on your PC (using an SD card reader or something) with the help of your favorite partitioning software.
This is to force the phone to ask you next time you insert the SD card, how to use it. Otherwise the option Use as internal storage may not appear.
In the new 2017 A series there is this new universal app for managing battery usage, disk usage, RAM usage and security.
Eventually you can find the option to migrate data to the SD card - this can take a while.
Basically it moves all the non-system applications from original internal storage to the new internal storage on the SD card. All new application that you will install will be placed entirely on this new internal storage.
Use another app like Storage Space from Google Play Store to see the real available memory, the universal Samsung manager is not designed to understand Adoptable storage as Samsung intended not to.
That's it. I tested this on A3 2017 (SM-A320FL) with Exynos CPU and ClockWork Mode custom recovery.
Download CWM Recovery for A3 2017 form this post. It should work on all A 2017 series on devices with Exynos CPU.
You can do this (flash a ZIP) using any working custom recovery compatible with your device (CWM, TWPR).
The applicability of this method may be limited to android 6.0.1 Marshmallow.
From my experience on the Galaxy A3 2017 it seems that the new internal storage is equal in size to that of the SD card, so the new internal storage it is not adding to the ~9 GB of original internal storage left free - as I expect it.
The New Storage manager app is different from the usual access menu of standard Samsung settings. The menu we are looking for is hidden before the Format as portable storage option and there is no back button.
To make menu appear put the SD card into a computer and delete all the partitions on it.
1. Use MiniTool Partition Wizard on Windows or any other tool that let's you delete the partitions on the SD card
2. Place the SD card back in to the device
3. Go to the Storage Manager and select Storage options form top right
Now you should see the "corrupt" message under SD card. This is what we want.
To make the phone see the SD card as corrupt.
4. Now tap on that and hit Configure on the popup where it says ...in order to use it it has to be configured.
5. Done. Now you will see 2 options:
-Use as portable storage
-Use as internal storage
You can trigger the same menu by reformatting the SD card into the phone but before it finishes formatting tap quickly on the back button. This will actually interrupt the format, corrupt the SD card and then a notification will appear (A new SD card was detected):
Swipe down the notifications pane
There will be a cog icon and Configure. Tap on it to proceed
There it will open the menu with both options:
-Use as portable storage
-Use as internal storage
Please feel free to post your feedback and experiences regarding this below.
Special thanks to ashyx who updated this patch to work on these devices and other devices. More details and PayPal donation link here.

Yes. Some applications may not work normally or at all. However the phone will constantly notify you that the card is missing and to reinsert it.
Optionally you can choose to cancel that prompt but then you'll permanently lose the association with the SD card and you have to re-format it to use it.
not working for me I flashed the zip file, everything seems allright but even after formating the sd card, I don't have the option

You need a faster SD card (type UHS-I U3 or UHS-II U3 for faster access speeds).
As for reverting to portable storage just pop out the card then select "cancel association" from the phone.
Next time you insert the SD card it will say it is not recognizable and you can format it again either as portable storage or as internal storage
Root
when I want 2 root my device with A520FXXU1AQCA, but Odin - FAIL!
Download mode - Custom binary (RECOVERY) Blocked to remaining installment balance.

When I try to flash it with cwm. I get:
"E:Footer is wrong"
"E:Signature verification failed".

Thank you! It worked perfectly and in the first attempt. I did not even have to use a computer to format the SD card, or interrupt the process on the phone. I formatted it using the phone’s default formatting option and, once it was completed successfully, it asked me whether I wanted to use the SD card as internal storage. Smooth as can be. The only issue I can see is that it’s showing the total available storage as 64 GB, which means that the phone’s 16 GB is not being counted. I don’t really care enough about it to troubleshoot it. I am not using up 64 GB anytime soon.
