[Q] ROM Manager friendly root? - Galaxy S II Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

It seems CF-Root v4.1 is the bees-knees when it comes to rooting the Galaxy S II, but unfortunately it is not ROM Manager compatible.
Is there an up to date method to root the SGSII that works with Rom Manager? I found this link: http://www.inspiredgeek.com/2011/04...ng-odin-and-superoneclick-step-by-step-guide/ but I suspect there may be a newer method.
Here are my phone details, just in case:
Android version: 2.3.3
Baseband version: I9100XXKE7
Kernel version: 2.6.35.7-I9100XWKF3-CL276555

bump......

Why don't you just install ROM Manager, then download latest clockwork recovery using ROM Manager?
It will then be ROM Manager compatible.

Because I need to attain root before I can flash clockworkmod. ROM Manager says "An error occurred while attempting to run privileged commands"

I'm on the original galaxy and the easiest way I've found to root is to use odin or hemindall to flash a kernel with cwm. It roots and gives cwm in one action. Also theres a new super one click that I've had success with on many different brands of phones, hts, lg, moto

What I meant is, why don't you just flash CF-Kernel, then install ROM manager, then use that to install clockwork recovery.
There is a confusion that rom manager is not compatible with the kernel. That part is not true, rom manager is not compatible with the clockwork recovery that is supplied by the kernel, you just use the clockwork recovery that can be installed with rom manager. The cwm app is not compatible with the recovery installed by rom manager.

Flash codeworkx kernel, root it, and run rom manager to your hearts content.

I'm having this issue too.
I've spent most of the day trying different things.
Regardless of how I root, and what rom and kernel provides the base when I try and update cwm through rom manager then try and reboot into recovery through rom manager I get the failed to verify error.
I've rooted with the chainfire root, with codeworx kernal and then superone click, and it's made no difference.
I've also tried it from rooted stock firmwares, and custom roms.
Still cannot boot into recovery from rom manager.
I've also noticed that despite rom manager saying that I'm using the latest version, when I manually boot into cwm it shows the previous version.
edit: I even went back to stock and rooted using link in first post, then installed rom manager but same error.
Keeps going to 3e system recovery
God it's annoying

Further googling has led me to believe the issue is rom managers not being compatible with 3e recovery.
Apparently we need to have 2e recovery.
Any way to get that?
edit: Or can we disable signature verification in cwm?
re-edit: Well I found this in the cf root thread which will explain why I will never get rom manager to work
CF-Root includes a custom version of CWM4. I always make custom versions, as the originals often do not take some Samsung specific things into account.
CF-Root/CWM4 is NOT compatible with ROM Manager! Manage/perform your backup/restores from CWM directly or using the CWM Manager application included with CF-Root
Where is the standard version then?

Codeworx said himself that his kernel won't work with rom manager.
If anyone is able to install roms through rom manager I'd like to know what rom, kernal, and how they rooted.

Haven't read that thread but i thought that was the whole point of his kernel, oh well.

Well I finally found a fix.
This time I can boot into recovery from rom manager.
No more failed to verify errors
What you need is this version of clockwork recovery

Flash it with odin, then use superoneclick version 1.95.

kg6 rom manager cfroot incompatiblity?

I have a Odin flashed kg6 with cfroot also flashed giving me root.
I'd like to install cyanogen but when I install ROM manager and select install clockwork I can't reboot into it - I just get the stock recovery.
I see that there is clockwork for cwm with the cfroot and I can boot into that but I don't know how to install cyanogen unless I put an update.zip file on. In which case after I apply update.zip which finishes in a few seconds? ? Then a restart just hangs on the boot logo.
Is ROM manager for S2 incompatible or am I missing something?
I'm in exactly same boat, is CF-Root and cyanmod not going to work together or is it something on the firmware side, I've tried mutliple nightlies and XXKG1/2/3/5/6 with same result, ROM manager premium fails on signature and CWM that comes with CF-root does exactly as same as post above.
any help also appreciated.

[Q] CMW and Rom Manager [HELP NEEDED]

Hi guys
so after some days of trolling the forums looking for an answer i am finally creating a thread.
I rooted my galaxy s2 using oneclick than i wanted to install CWM.
couldnt do it from rom manager so i flashed Cf-root.
chainfire says that rom manager is not compatible with CWM yet cynagen mod7 for galaxy s2 says you can install the ROM from rom manager premium.
Than there is this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1118693
where people who have flashed the kernal say that some of them could use rom manager
so can you use Rom manager if you have flashed a CWM kernal other than CF-Root?
it didnt work for me using rom manger + chainfire's kernel + flashing back stock kernel
after installing cm with rom manger i only got into android recovery which gave me "signature something failure"
i reflashed chainfire kernel (dunno if that helped)
used cwm to flash cyanogen
profit
how is cynagen doing for you so far?
for users using http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1118693
can you guys use rom manager?
100view but only 1 reply
Download the cm7 nightly zip, put it in your internal sd card, flash codeworx's kernel, flash the cm7 zip from the recovery, flash it under install zip from sd card, if the sig verification fails you may have a bad download.
If you get stuck at the boot screen flash the zip twice

yes, you can use rom manager with CM7 (cm7 uses codeworkx kernel with cwm 4.0.1.x), works perfectly.
that answers my unasked question that if CM7 has CWM thanks guys gonna flash tomorrow maybe
i can confirm that rom manager works with the kernel i posted above
you can flash the kernel using the CWM manager and than use rom manager

[Q] Before I knew not to install Rom Manager, I installed it

As the title says, before I knew not to install Rom Manager, I installed it. I used Rom Manager to install CWM. However, when I try to boot into CWM, I get the "Android system recovery <3e>" in blue lettering. I have uninstalled Rom Manager, but is there anything else I need to do to clean up anything Rom Manager might have done?
thanks
I did it too, not sure if its bad or ok?
It is OKAY to install rom manager and will not create an issue just having it installed. What you cannot do right now correctly is get it to go into cwm correctly on stock roms.
(It works flawless on cm7 and I use it daily or every couple days. I have even used it to back up the STOCK Samsung rom and cm7 roms. I have then in turn went from cm7 back to stock via cwm with the backed up copy I made with rom manager).
Once you see the cwm3 recovery just reboot phone, turn it back off, three finger salute until you see the Samsung galaxy s screen and let go of the buttons. This will get you back to the proper cwm to install roms.

First you need to download this SGH-I777_ClockworkMod-Recovery_5.0.2.3.tar
kernel, here is the link: http://www.multiupload.com/QQKN7NJAFT
Go into download mode and flash with ODIN.
After doing that you need to ROOT the phone using "SuperOneClick" rooter which
can be found here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1285894
Once you get done with these two steps sucessfully you will be good to go and will be able
to flash any custom rom found in this forum. You will also have the CWM recovery screen too.
(notice: I did NOT say anything about rom manager in any of the two above steps )
Good Luck
Thank you very much for your replies. I am currently running a "rooted" stock rom. Are you saying that I will need to re-root the phone after installing SGH-I777_ClockworkMod-Recovery_5.0.2.3.tar?
Thanks for your help.

If you are really are rooted now then just do step #1 afterwards just make
sure that there is an app installed called "superuser" if you cannot find that
app that means that you are not rooted and will need to root again.
Hi Misterjunky
Thank you for your post
I had exact same problem: installed and run ROM manager before read
Instead use the method you method: flash with ODIN. can I use Mobile Odin Lite mentioned here?

BTW, my S2 was already rooted

[Q] HOW to get CWM after Superoneclick

Hi,
i've just root my samsung galaxy s II using superoneclick by demonslord. i've also installed CWRecovery Mod by ROM menager. But i still cant flash any rom, couse CWMod says(or Android system recovery <3e>, maybe CWM ist installed properly) says : signature verification failed.
Anyone can help ?

There's your problem, rom manager can't install a recovery on a stock kernel, personally i wouldn't use rom manager at all. Just flash a cf-root kernel for your firmware and boot into recovery manually.
Thanks, i've done that and it works perfectly.
but then using cwm i've installed villain rom 3.0.
it's a good rom etc
but it seems like i havent got root after installing it.
none of the apps from market using root permission work.
for example chainfire 3D says i dont have root.
Any explanation for that?
Install Superuser from Market does say this in thread.

[Q] HELP / ASSIST - Unble to reboot in CWM Recovery

Hi All,
I am having trouble with Galaxy S2. Months ago I rooted my phone, installed cwm and installed a ROM into it. Now they have released a new version of the ROM which I want to install it.
This is the ROM:
http://galaxys2root.com/galaxy-s2-roms/resurrection-ics-rom-v2-0-for-galaxy-s2-i9100-best-ics-rom/
however, I am unable to boot into CWM Recovery.
If I do the POWER+VOLUP+HOME button its going directly to Android Recovery
I tried opening the CWM Manager, and I get this prompted:
"This version of CWM Manager should be used with CF-Root v5.0 or newer. It appears you are running a different kernel. Various features have been disabled"
I remember Flashing a Kernel to remove the Triangle Logo on the Loading Part.
So how can I flash the Kernel back? And install the newest updated ROM
Flash cf-root first it seems that you're not rooted.
Sent from my GT-I9100 using xda premium
Flashing the original kernel to remove the yellow triangle also takes you back to stock 3e recovery. You are still rooted though. Reflash the unsecure kernel through cwm manager or if that doesnt work, download ktool from google play and reflash from there.
This will give you CWM recovery without increasing binary flash counter. Reboot into recovery and do full wipe, before flashing new firmware.

flash the CF-root kernel using odin or siyah kernel(for me siyah is much smoother) and everything should be fine, also use triangle away to remove the triangle (u can get in google play for donation to the dev or on XDA for free)
