New better firmware, when? - Galaxy S II Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

We saw many releases of firmwares for SGS2, but in every firmware is something crappy or missing (video in gtalk etc..).
Does anybody have some info when new firmware will be released with all goods included but with all things working smoothly?
Me: still on KF3, all other newest FW was dissapointment...

Samsung release date for perfect firmware Twelfth of Never .
jje

Not even custom built roms from ground up remotely come close to perfection, so dont expect too much from samsung, you may need to mix and match some roms/modems/kernels/apks to get the best possible result.

Hmm, I don't think my glass ball still works.

Us Galaxy S users with Captivates and Fascinates hadn't even got Gingerbread and it took forever to get Froyo. >=[

To be fair to Samsung it seems the issue lies with your carriers over there in North America.

Not much of a change with 2.3.4 people have been flashing the non official 2.3.4 firmware via Odin for almost a month now.
And the way things are going samsung may not include gtalk video otherwise I dont see much differnece between the two.
If you are itchy to get it you can always flash the unofficial ones .. INTRATECH has got quite of them non wipe if you do wish.
I thought it would bring changes:< better battery life and more speed plus less bugs (don't know why I need more speed s2 is Mega fast anyway) .... has android run out of ideas? I don't know if 3d is a gimick but I might have to go this way only thing which puts me off is just experience with the sensation it was awful hence me getting s2
I am frightened of bricking my phone hence why I don't like the idea of non official....

with 2.3.4 roms i couldnt tell if it was faster at all
but the KF3 rom(2.3.3) had more battery life than the KG rom (2.3.4)
dont be scared of bricking
after rooting ur phone once and getting CWM
ull almost never need to use Odin again
just use your own phone to flash new roms
but if you want to stay legit just update using Kies
Not seeing a FOTA update to 2.3.4 on my sensation.
kg5 was officially released at least two weeks ago in Poland and is available by kies, so what is the problem again?

Well for starters it is official Samsung firmware not something cooked up .
Two its almost impossible to brick SGS2 ( almost )
Three the method to update to stock is relatively simple and phone still covered under Samsungs warranty .
Four you wait not for Samsung to release the firmware upgrade but the phone provider to accept that update and upload or not to Kies as the official update method .
Five XDA Developers forum is a bit useless if its all Kies updates .

Oh apparently HTC has released it in some regions this morning.... So this automatically means Samsung should release it too because all firmware updates should be synchronous. I don't see the reasoning behind your post, maybe you would care to explain.
I was asking cos HTC are the worst for updating firmware and they are quick with 2.3.4 I hate some of the attitudes on this forum I asked a simple question and am glad there are some polite people out there
Thank you to the polite people who responded.....
I shall wait to see when Samsung release in the uk.... i don't want to jump ship from s2 to evidence 3d so hopefully Samsung won't let us down

Well i think HTC release of updates are more worldwide and all almost together. Samsung is like different times for different countries and if you have branded one is even more difficult to have an update quickly.
I'm glad I'm unbranded it's strange how they release em seem to go from one side of the world then back to one European country then to the tother. Will wait for the uk to get it

New Updates ?

Hi
It has been a while since last galaxy s2 got an official update ?!
dose anyone know why ?
world wide no any official update since the arrival of Kh3 which was a month and a week ago ?
we usual got updates every 1 to 2 weeks ?!
2.3.5 is on its way.
Sent from my GT-I9100 using Tapatalk
so that is why updates stoped ?
and i didnt hear that 2.3.5 will be released to galaxy s2 are you sure ?
ice cream's on the way
I'm still waiting for the official 2.3.4 update (I have an unlocked phone from the UK). The current firmware has a weird bug that causes the data connection to occasionally drop... So I'm hoping the next update fixes this.
will 2.3.5 be official to galaxy s2 ?

I had a phone die from bad Samsung officially released FW after a KIES update. Plus Samsung wouldn't support it even though it was "incorrectly placed by them", and given the green light for my region (and I went through the finger pointing game between Samsung/carrier)
Odin is definitely the way to go. You get a million times better support from here over Samsung if anything goes wrong...

And you need bug fixes/new features/more battery life updates every week? Download cm7, you'll get updates everyday.
i think it take again a while before an update comes! i don't get it the big successor of samsung and sgs1 again first an update!
Ehh...so far no one really answered the OPs question. Obviously he knows there are custom solutions out there but he simply asked about an official Kies update. I am on XEU as well and am frustrated by the lack of an official update in over 2 months. Unfortunately, I don't think anyone is going to be able to give you any reason why there hasn't been updates or any information on when one may be coming. Samfirmware isn't really official and I haven't seen any quotes from an official Samsung source like their twitter. Seems like we just have to wait and suffer with the battery bug and the data connection issues...
I'm also very disappointed with speed of Samsung in releasing new updates. Anyway now I have HTC Sensation for test (Czech) and Android is still 2.3.3, but in Germany it is 2.3.4
So I would like to mainly ask Google to step into this jungle and make some order. Otherwise, I think people will turn to iOS or WM 7.5, where updates are more clear...

Whoops, looks like I missed this topic and replied to another one instead. I'll repost here because it's more appropriate to this thread.
This release is the second release of the 2.3.4 firmware, right? I ask because I installed the Generic UK 2.3.3 firmware to my Google I/O R800a months ago and received the second 2.3.3 OTA update bringing it up to 4.0.A.2.368 about a month before the version for the North American R800a dropped. By all indications at the time, the UK firmware was getting updates out way faster.
But now this has been released and I still haven't seen anything come up for OTA or through PC Companion or SEUS. It makes me wonder if I should just flash back to the Generic North American R800a ROM with this.
Any suggestions/recommendations? Thanks!
Weird. When I plug my phone into my computer PC Companion tells me there is an update for my phone (the version that this thread is about). If I search for software update in the phone it says I am up to date. I'm on 2.3.4 now (4.0.1.A.0.283) which I believe is the UK generic version.
The .283 is the Nordic 2.3.4

So I've been loving this FW to death... except for one aspect.
BLOATWARE IS OFF THE ****ING CHARTS!
As if all the other expected stuff wasn't enough, now they're forcing Google Books, Video Unlimited, like 3 different "Get Games" things, LiveWare, a bunch of Facebook integrated stuff, OfficeSuite and PlayNow... and versions of Flash/Facebook/Youtube that can't be removed or moved to SD... holy ****.
Madden, Star Batallion, FIFA and Bruce Lee are also being forced... but I don't mind that much. I like all those games (still wouldn't mind having the option to move that stuff to SD).
The most annoying part is that if I uncheck Automatic Updates, it'll just re-check themselves and slam all those updates on my phone storage when I'm sleeping or something. That's pretty high up there on the "**** move"-o-meter.
Even still though... this ROM has been amazing... like 250MB free natively... 720p recording, xLoud... screen caps... but if someone could modify this ROM and kill off all that crap, I'd be in heaven.

lol I found out about the zergRush method roughly two minutes after I posted that bloatware rant.
Happily rooted, and about to tweak some things to perfection. I don't necessarily want to kill off all the bloatware... I just want it off my goddamn phone storage
IIRC, I can just go straight into the system/app folder and every apk I delete from there uninstalls the app, right? I've been on stock 2.3.3 so long I've forgotten.
Do you need an unlocked bootloader for this, or can you use it if the bootloader is still locked?

Why hasnt UK gotten the 2.3.6 update officially for SGS2? UK got the 2.3.5 update but the unlocked sim-free handsets only got the 2.3.4 update. I have the SGS2 on 3 and didnt get 2.3.6, i had to flash it myself. And will we get an ICS update for UK fast?
Samsung are only on test rom ICE so far .
2.3.6 update may depend upon your carrier and in your case you have to ask 3 .

I have to say I feel the same I use to change my roms on my desire all the time but never felt the need too on the s2? and today one of the girls in work updates her S2 to 2.3.5 voda branded and my none branded is stuck with 2.3.4, what is that all about??? I benched the 2 side by side today fresh reboot and the voda scored 3600+ on quad and mine only 3200+ not happy with that and TBH I have nothing at all installed on mine!!
HTC never let branded phones get firmware first or is this a play from the carriers now paying to get updates first hmm I wonder.
I did have a look at upgrading to that 2.3.6 rom via odin but still not sure about doing it.
I would just like them all to just get the updates out and stop messing, that is what Android is all about. Just let us do the messing with the phones.

Also I would be happy to root and run a custom rom on my s2 I have messed around with phones for years going back to the old Nokia 6600 days and a few before that, also my HTC desire that was changed almost daily, but I feel that the S2 is a solid phone as standard (IMO)

Why do they do this ? isn't this just a massive hassle for Samsung etc with all the diff updates they have to work on, test & put out ?

If we see it, I think it'll be a positive sign that the carriers listen to the voices of users wanting (demanding) updates and similar featuresets to other models of the same handset (not stripped down) but I'd be really surprised if we ever see another official update out of AT&T for the Note.
We're under contract for two years, IMO we should get good support and reasonable updates for those two years.
I still think if carriers didn't screw with the updates so much, they could get them out faster and cheaper, but I doubt that'll happen

But what about all that content AT&T offers? How would we LIVE without it? /sarcasm
I totally agree, I wish Google enforced an osap release for every device with manufacturers so we'd have the option of vanilla or a manufacturer custom rom. Like that would ever happen lol

true but not exactly what I meant. What I mean is say Samung goes to release say the Note 3, they write an ASOP rom, and then another that has all of the touchwiz, multiple windows and other cool samsung apps. When the phone hits the carrier, it will inevitably be laced with AT&T bloatware, but we'd still have the original ASOP from sammy to choose from. Now I know in this model there's no way a company like Samsung could maintain 2 ROMs for every phone, but I think many of us would prefer to go without touchwiz for a clean experience and true customizability that Android was meant to be.
Really though, if Google went to more of a modular design instead of encoding the hardware drivers within a kernel that would be the end all of that. Yes I do understand that kernal compilation with the drivers provides a speedier system, but heck our phones are packing a dual core and it's just linux and linux is quick by nature.
Just my thoughts.
