Can someone explain to me the situation with the internal storage on the Evo3D?
1. WHat is the actual total amount of internal storage in the Evo3D? I've heard
1GB, 4GB & 8GB....which is it?
2. If it is 4GB's or 8GB's, is there a way to access extra storage space?
Any information would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance
I think internal is 4gb 1.2ish for apps and like 1gb for rom... Idk.. i'd like to know this as well the real breakdown on internal storage...

1.2 available, the rest is owned by the system. I am SURE somebody will get custom MTD going to free up the unused portion of the 2.8 allocated that is actually vacant space. Especially once we have ROMs that are 75mb vs. 250-400mb
If we could get the rest for apps... Apps2sd is not really needed... Right now i have like 200 apps and am a little over 750mb... I think it will take a while to fill the rest but i wouldnt mind some peace of mind..

I might have a stupid question, but nevertheless, where is the 4gb rom? I see that I have about 800mb ram and 1gb for storage plus the sd card, but where is the 4gb rom? Thanks.

That would be your 1gb. The system ate up a lot of it.

No, I'm not happy to see you, that's a Shooter in my pocket.
3D speed
Wondering how the speed compares to the 4G?
Way faster than og evo rooted and all, that 4gb was ate up by all these fancy dancy widgets and doohickies
Bussin Caps from my 3D shooter
it was my understanding that you had 1gb of free space but there was 1gb reserved for future rom updates....
rom updates...
waiting to be able to put on a Fresh Rom
So what you guys are saying is that I still need to move apps to the SD card? That's interesting. Its like the 4gig doesn't even matter. I must say that while I do like how everything is, I really don't use any of the widgets. Is there any way to clear them out without root?

3GB reserved for weather animations. hehehe
Your saying 1gb of space isn't enough space for your apps? Impossible. Moving them to the SD card is completely unnecessary unless you have like 400 apps.

4 GB ROM
This is the first time that I heard of ROM. As I understand it, ROM includes the space needed for the system to operate with additional space left over that you can use???
So since some of us have root would anyone like to share what was in the 3 gigs that we unrooted users can't get to?
boom!! from my shooter
The OS LOL, I think is just advertising no ROM that i know of has 3 gb free
Sent from my PG86100 using Tapatalk
Yes this is very misleading and shouldn't be allowed. They tell you 4gb and you only get 1gb. The photon advertised the same things 16gb internal and you only get to use 8.97gb. It's false advertising to me but it seems to be allowed since they are using it on the OS so that makes it ok. I was dissappointed by the low amount of internal memory when I switched to the Evo 3d. 1gb is a lot but it's still not enough if you are a appaholic.

No different then a pc. It will say 500GB hard drive..windows will the 30 gig, then another 30 for the real size. So you start will 440 free.

The android system and sense take up a whole 3 gigs?!?? That just seems outrageous.
boom!! from my shooter
Not just sense. There is a partition that is a backup of sense. Remember when we were first temp-rooting? Any change we made got reverted on reboot. How do you think it did that? It copied over from the "backup sense" any changes that were made to the system or data partitions. That **** takes up space.
Is there a way to get that space,or are better off leaving it alone?

I hope theres a way we can get it back!. I wonder if we could use it to dual boot too
Since we now have root, can we Firerat the partitions like we did in the Hero?
well this is an easy fix if you have a large SD card.
i have my sd card partitioned out 2 extra gigabytes for data. makes up for the false advertising... which i totally agree, by the way, is utter bull****. they should tell you what you are getting in NET storage, not gross.

I'm not that worries about app space bit I also don't put them on the SD I was just wondering if there is like 2 gigs sitting completely unused. I only say that because 3 gigabytes is gigantic for sense sense and android. Unless sense really is that big. I'm not rooted I was on my hero but I applied the ota too early.
boom!! from my shooter
This makes me crazy. Why do they claim 8gb when there is not even 5gb usable? Be honest, say 5gb so we are able to gauge what we are getting. At least when you get an SD card almost all of it is there.
You forgot 2 gb internal storage for apps..yes its not full 8 gb ..its 7 point something but it never is.
Sent from my GT-I9000 using XDA
It is the same reason for your hdd on your pc. The drive does have 8gb total but some of it is used up by the system's OS. Your usable space is actually 5.5gb with 1.3gb being used for apps. Any storafe medium does this. If you notoce on sd cards it may say 16gb but the user only has access to 14 gb
Sent from my GT-I9000 using xda app-developers app
-sigh- because there really is 8gb of memory and they would be lying if they said 5gb. Think about it; all tech companies list the memory as the total amount of internal memory, not just available memory. If Samsung had a guilty conscience and said the galaxy player had 5gb, how could you compare to the iPod, that still said 8gb? There really is 8gb, but only 5gb available. Life tends to not be perfect.

Most apps can not be instaled on usb storage so you want be able to install them at all with out it ..also almost all aps have some librarys and they all go to system storage..also dalvic cache is on system storage..and every app that is on usb storage you can move it to system..just go to menage aplications in settings ..click on app and click on move to device

Just buy a 64gb MicroSD and swap the internal with the external, then you'll have 64gb for apps to be installed on.
Simple fix.

Well, at $9 it ain't cheap. There is a free version to check for comatability, https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.roehsoft.meminfo#?t=W251bGwsMSwxLDIxMiwiY29tLnJvZWhzb2Z0Lm1lbWluZm8iXQ.. Very interesting idea. But is it really needed? I never use all of my RAM and Android manages RAM very well.
Use caution ...
Now I have a swap file that won't delete from sd card ....and my device is running half speed after 2 reboot cycles ...
Still checking for hidden background process app running after uninstall ....
His English is so poor (no translation program ) that I never should have tested this POS....g

Not insulting your intelligence here as you may have done/tried this already, but in the file explorer you are using, you are granted root permissions as well as mounting the file system as writable when trying to delete this swap file correct?
The other thing to consider is that the read/write speeds of the actual RAM are much much much higher than the read/write speeds of the flash storage. So that's why you're experiencing super slow speeds Greg.
Like said above, android manages RAM very well to begin with, there is really no need for this.

I've managed to get the swap removed.......after removing root permissions from my entire SD card basically....

I would avoid swap. I tested using swap on my device by adding a swap file manually(using terminal and swapon) and it worked at first. After leaving the device on for a while, though, I started getting long lag spikes.

Yeah, I just love paying money to kill my device.
All these VM apps do, is set aside some flash memory as a paging file, which over time all those repeated writes will result in the internal flash memory dying.
As the above said... using flash as swap is a terrible idea. The swap file is treated just like ram in that it gets a ton of random reads and writes. Flash memory has a limited lifespan as far as read/writes go and all you are doing is accelerating the destruction of the storage. Swap files were intended to be used on magnetic storage based hard drives that can handle the abuse.

Theres an option to use your external sd. That's what Im doing, at 1080 mb it does show in the app that its using about 100mb for ram. Yes I know it can kill my memory. But I haven't had any issues yet, just my two cents. But prolly gonna take it off tho

If you do this, partition off the end of your SD card and use that space. That way when the flash dies, you can simply not use that part of the SD card any longer.
Certainly don't do swap on the internal storage, ever.

I remember them...back on Windows 3.5 I think. Or maybe even before that. It was all the rage for a very short time. I was just happy to have a hard drive instead of a 5 1/4" floppy.
Has anybody done this on the N2? I was considering doing it since I have a 64gb card and making a 2gb partition for swappable memory. I know this is probably pointless and degrades the length that I can use the SD card, but debating if it is worth it at all.
I'm interested also. You can never have enough ram
