Quick question before i do this - XPERIA X10 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello, Im about to upgrade my x10a to 2.3 using the flashtool. And i was wondering if everything works correctly and if it works with the x10a U.S.
Thanks A lot

Yes it does. It is working for me.
But I saw a post that someone in New York area is having difficulty to get the radio working.

Thanks, and what do you mean radio? Like the fm/am radio, because if its that, then im gonoing to that since i wont be using that.

no... it means gettign the signal!
reboot while getting signal found to be a little common happened to x10a user
me included

oh alright. Does it happen to you? or does it happen to everyone?

Don't worry, you can always go back to where you were if it doesn't work out, which I doubt will occur.

thanks a lot. I will be doing this soon. this is the official update? and is everything else working smoothly, example: the transition between pages and the touch?

Yes this is the official update. You would be the only judge to make sure everything works smoothly.
I'm glad that I upgraded!

Yeah, I did it and everything seems to work correctly. Now im going to root it. I just need find a way.

As far as I know conventional ways to root don't work.

You may want to take a look at it. Or flash prerooted one like I did.

Does your phone customization version has the update released? If yes, update it through SEUS or PC Companion. FlashTool is just used for backup, I will not recommend to use it to upgrade OS.

I've found a better thread that shows how to root the official 2.3.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1196808

I have flashed to 2.33 and my biggest complaint is that the phone reboots after using google navigation after about 10 minutes, and poor bt profiles, making my older se stereo headset unrecognised.

i am sure it wont hurt trying it bro
Ive had **** gps since 2.2 and in a matter of minutes this app got me 100%...and its raining here so i only went to the window to get signal. DEF recommend trying this.
Installed this (running Bionix Final R1) and it... didn't really do anything. Locks are still incredibly iffy, happening only if I have a very clear view of the sky with absolutely no obstructions. Getting a position fix inside a building is a complete non-starter, just like before.
Thank gods I don't use the GPS much.
So far works very good, I still have to leave the location o am at to try more testing but so far so good.

thats because it only works on the SGH-T959 and SGH-I897, does not work on a GT-I9000, since Macnut R12 has the model number as GT-I9000 it wont work on that either.
We can also extract the apk and get what's inside to take a look into what is beeing done. Please provide an APK

I noticed something with this app. In GPS test it can only see me at 20~30 BUT the lbs test says 5~10. Weird, anyways I will post a pic of my locks when I get a chance. So far it locks on spot on and its really accurate.

but after reboot i ran "gps test" for 5 mins, and it found 1 more sat, total now at 13, using 9-11.
then opened up maps again and got a lock right on accurate to 5m, gps test says 15ft.
thats the best lock ive ever had on the sam-vib...sweet, tx for the heads up!!

Poor Reception and poorer battery life with ATT 2.1 upgrade

I had to make sure it was an upgrade issue so I went back to 1.6 and I haven’t gotten no network coverage, and the battery last a whole lot longer…. I don’t know why but 2.1 is pretty bad, sure its faster, but if you have no reception and has to have a charger at hand, it defeats the purpose of upgrading.. I would like to know if this is because of flashed rom, or this is an issue with all 2.1’s?
Sounds like an isolated problem. It's been six months since the 2.1 update, and I have not heard this. Did you try repair software via SEUS or PC Companion before going back to 1.6?
try to use Flashtool to make a new fresh 2.1 may fix your issue

I didn't try that, because I thought for some reason if you use SEUS it will block you from downgrading to 1.6 if have a need to go back.

I think it already will block you, because your CDA number has changed and unbranded to global generic. In order to flash back to 1.6 with flash tool, you need to use root explorer or adb to edit the build.prop file back to AT&T branded 1.6.
Try using some of the custom roms - I always found battery life greatly improved (2.1 & 2.2) not to mention the speed and feature improvements.
Give it a go, it's not difficult and you may get a pleasant surprise.
Hey bro u have to let the upgrade settle in for a couple of days. That's stupid to flash it then ten seconds later say this sucks.

Exactly.
@gabnj -After one day of use and you are giving up? Android needs to build up its cache and everything will be good after a few days. Go read 2.1 after effects thread found here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=824721&highlight=after+effects
You will see that a lot of people had the same issue(s) as you. As for poor reception, I don't know. Like the Agent says it might be isolated. Your phone should still be under warranty with AT&T, take it to their repair service location and have it checked out.

[Q] New stock Atrix, do I update to Gingerbread?

What should I do? Do I update it over the air? Should I learn how to flash/root/unlock and find a custom that would be good?
That's something you have to decide. Read the forums, there are plenty of reasons given as to why to root or flash custom rom. I recommend a update to stock 2.3.4 for starters.
It isn't the end of the world to update to gingerbread and not be able to downgrade. You can either do that OTA, or you can use a CWM based rom so that you could have the ability to downgrade in the future.
It comes down to this, are you comfortable with unlocking, flashing cwm, then installing roms? Do you think you will be soon? Do you have a desire or need for these things? If your answer is no to both questions then just OTA update. It doesn't cripple your phone and you can always adjust the phone to any release using CWM when you are comfortable with it.
I can tell you this. If you value having a reliable bluetooth connection I'd think twice about upgrading to Gingerbread. Google it...
I'm this the process now of searching this forum to figure out a safe way to get my Gingerbread update back to Froyo.
CM7!
I'd learn how to flash CM7 onto your Atrix! I was in the same boat as you (I got an Atrix on 2.2 about a month ago and didn't know how to do anything at all) and really, it's not that difficult -- just follow the instructions and you'll be fine
CM7 is so nice!

Both. I've tried it using the in car systems in an Acura TL and Ford Focus. Also tried Plantronics Voyager Pro, Discovery 975 and an old LG headset. I get the same results for all. I'm able to successfully pair without any problems. But about half the time I'm in a phone call the bluetooth connection becomes unstable and audio reverts to the phone.
I'm surprised the inability to use bluetooth hasn't garnered more uproar. It's really a safety issue. Maybe there aren't enough users on Gingerbread yet?

Official update due soon. Is it worth it?

Ive rooted and have been running custom roms. I guess this question is aimed towards our american friends. Is the update worth it? Or are the custom roms available better and the emergance of cm7?
Sent from my MB860 using xda premium
Roms are better than the 2.3.4 update from Motorola. The best ROM is cm7. But the best everything working ROM in my opinion is Alien ROM which includes webtop and HDMI.
Sent from my Atrix XDA Premium App
We may really tell only when the update is out. I once read that Motorola is delaying Gingerbread for Europe because many modifications are needed. It seems that Atrix and Atrix 4G do really have differences.
I needed to install many tweaks for making Alien #4 perform well on my European, retail Atrix (1bar bug for 3G, A-GPS, a custom kernel, ..).
Moreover, radios out there are not suited for "Euro - retail" Atrix (not 4G) running custom Gingerbread ROMs. I found that the best radios for Italy (I suppose for Europe, too) are still N_01.95.00R (the one that comes with retail Atrix, designed for Froyo) and N_01.100.00R (Orange FR radio). The first performs better in terms of battery life, the second has great connectivity. Substitute N_01.95.00R with the radio that came with your Atrix, in case.
I tried N_01.100.00R but decided to switch back to N_01.95.00R. Currently I am using Cyanogenmod because it is the ROM less built around a specific carrier. I'm quite happy with that.
Probably, the best combination will be to use the radios that Motorola will release for European customers when GB is out here plus Cyanogenmod.
Hope that this helps clarifying.
Thanks. I have seen issues with the custom roms. Mainly lacking in signal when i know i usually have a full signal. How would you flash a radio on atrix...via sbf or is there flashable roms?

you can do it both ways, they exist in SBF form and .zip
there is also a one bar fix that you may want to try, search for it in the dev section
Just a thought: I ended up rooting and installing CM7 within a couple of weeks of buying my Atrix. If you're not bothered about fingerprint scanner and webtop then I think it is a lot better than stock Froyo in terms of performance.
Of course, now Gingerbread is looking like it will be on European phones officially "soon" but think about it: when you've just installed gingerbread with that motoblur overlay, CM9 based on ICS will probably be making its way to devices and aren't you going to be real jealous?!
Come on, you'll probably end up with Cyanogenmod at some point so why not take the plunge now? I honestly believe if you follow the instructions and get everything installed correctly, you won't be disappointed... just happy in the knowledge you'll always be on the path to the next upgrade!

As already posted both possibilities exist. I see from your avatar that you are a Linux user like me. Then beware that, if you will use sbf_flash for flashing sbf, never flash a radio that comes as a CWM file. sbf_flash will never overwrite it then and you will need to use Windows and RSD-Lite.
See more on a previous question posted by me. It started as a question on how to revert back to Froyo after Gingerbread update, but a very helpful user also told me about flashing radios, creating sbf radios/roms and about the sbf_flash bug
I can give or take cm7 yeah its awesome. But still too buggy. And unfortunately i hate the look of stock android. My signal is half what it should be.
So i have restored the original stock rom via cwm. Never realised how good the battery was. Heavy usage involving sat nav. Loads of wifi including facebook, market, xda and a few phone calls. 15 hours off charge and still 70%!!
Im waiting for the ota. Then maybe things may run smoother in regards radios and so on with other roms.
Sent from my MB860 using xda premium
I too am waiting on the official Gingerbread update for my UK Orange Atrix and fingers crossed, should be coming within the next week or two (Mid November has been quoted)
I'm still on Stock 2.2 having only had the Atrix for 1 week but am already feeling the custom Rom pull.
I guess it would be best to play with the official Gingerbread Rom for a week or two (when it comes haha) and if it's lacking then hit the custom's then - that's my plan anyways

I installed it, the sbf for my Atrix was posted three days ago in the Firmwares Superthread. It is amazing.
It comes with N_01.100.00R radio, that perfectly works with this ROM. Great 3G connectivity, great WiFi stability, GPS gets the signal in a bunch of seconds and battery life is great: after 07hrs and 30minutes of light usage (3G on, Gmail + Twitter on and sporadic Internet browsing), the battery level is still between 90% and 80%. Best ROM I've ever used.
so have you installed the OTA gingerbread?
or have you gone custom? i'm still awaiting the official update coming this week???

updating to gingerbread does not make it unrootable it just means you need to use a different method,
you can flash with RSD if you want to try out some other builds though, just do some reading first and figure out how to fix it if you get a soft brick

The Gingerbread OTA will lock the bootloader and probably install the malicious bootloader. We don't have info about the European OTA and the contained bootloader, so we assume that it is the same as the one contained in the USA OTA.
Therefore, I did not wait for the OTA. I indirectly installed the SBF mentioned before (it corresponds to the one I would have gotten with the OTA).
"Indirectly" means that I converted the SBF into moto-fastboot images and the radio into a radio-SBF image.
In this way I have the old, unlocked and not dangerous bootloader plus the new system, webtop and radio. It is safer in this way.

Yes but first unlock the bootloader, then try the UK retail but don't flash the SBF! You should convert it to moto-fastboot images (plus the SBF-radio) and install them. It should work well in France, but try it by yourself

Regarding update to Gingerbread:
Never install the Gingerbread OTA if you want to hack your phone and you don't have experience doing it. The OTA may contain a malicious bootloader that hinders further hacking. Quite sure it contains it. For sure, if you install the GB OTA and flash a Froyo sbf, it will brick the phone. It is still possible to install custom ROMs after the GB OTA, but it is better to manually update your phone instead of doing the OTA.
I am not sure about what happens if you just flash the original Motorola Gingerbread over your official Motorola Froyo. Fur sure it will work but I think that it will install the malicious bootloader
Rooting is always possible, it will never brick your device. Since you're a beginner, give a read to the beginners guide. It also contains rooting/unlocking instructions
Can anyone tell me if its possible to use US roms like the Alien ROM reviewed by a user called Zedomax on YouTube? I'm from the UK.

[Q] Androwook 1.4 GPS

I have successfully unlocked and rooted my TP with TWRP for the first time. I flashed Androwook 1.4 and I have some 'newbie' questions...
1. My gps has always worked fine until now. I have checked all three boxes in the location services folder. What am I missing? I have been one of the lucky ones who has had no wi-fi or gps issues... until now.
2. Before I rooted I found a program that would help Youtube/videos load better but now I can't find it. (I have been searching threads for days now) Any suggestions to speed up Youtube?
3. What are some good root apps that will help the performance of my TP. I flashed the 1.8ghz version of Androwook and this is already a HUGE improvement over stock, now I'm power drunk... need more!
Long time lurker, I have used XDA to root my Infuse and now my TP. Huge thanks to all the devs for making my toys better than the manufacturers can.
Thanks in advance for any suggestions.

I am going to try flashing AOKP JB Unofficial real quick and see if it's working in there. I've been through several roms since I've had my prime and I don't really remember when the last time I noticed it working was. It definitely worked when I got it and through a couple roms, and then up until some point.

I checked everything in the pimp my rom app. After that wifi wasn't working so I unchecked all of the wifi fixes. I'm not sure what fixed it but it works now. This is the first rom I've flashed so I'm not sure if it works with other roms.
I'm still having issues with flash in Web pages. That was the main reason I got and android and not an iPad. I can't believe they just dropped it like that and I'm surprised there is not more of an uproar about it. I tried the flash 1.1 apk and it worked for a minute then the TP rebooted itself and now I'm back to the "need current flash to play this video". PITA.

Yea that's the one. I loaded it straight from that link... Same thing... It works for a little while ten reboots TP then no flash. I can re load it and it works for a little while then... Same thing. GPS is intermittent too... Worked sometimes.. Other times the weather/clock widget say "could not refresh". Also I can't switch to performance mode sometimes?
I'm gonna try a stock JB rom. Any suggestions? (the problem might not be the rom, it might be operator error)

Then "another" rom. Thanks for correcting my ignorance.. :/ thanks for the suggestion, or lack of.
Also the battery died this morning in about 3hrs. I ran the battery calibrator last night and it hasn't helped. Not sure what's going on but this thing worked good for a couple of days after I rooted it. Now it's falling apart.

these are two other stock roms. I dont think your problems have as much to do with the rom as something else but you are welcome to flash whatever you wish.

Actually I have the same problem since i installed HB 1.4.
Everytime I reboot my prime, flash does not work anymore and I have to re-install it.

1.5 will be out soon with flash built in and working properly. That should fix that issue.
