Anyone using an airvana or airave with mopho 4g? - Motorola Photon 4G

Hi, just want to see if anyone is having issues with using either a 1st generation airave (samsung) or 2ng generation "airvana" with the photon 4g sprint.
1. issues so far (on stock OS with profile, PRL update : PRL Version : 51080
When connected to airvana (2nd generation) -
50% working : calls inbound, outbound - sms outbound/inbound
We tried power cycling photon, (battery in / out) leaving airvana coverage and re-entering, power cycling and reset-reprovisioning airvana (from network side). Also assigned my phone number to "whitelist" but still no success.
Still works 50% of time.
Next plan is to set and reassign old MAC and 1st generation airave.
................................. is what I am feeling now
In addition : tested with networks :
* Sprint Only
* Any CDMA
* Automatic
When disconnected from airavana - calls : inbound/outbound sms:inbound/outbound - work again...
What else can I have sprint airvana support do to pass the message on and troubleshoot?

[Q] Has anyone been able to place calls in 'EvDo only' mode?

So using the secret menu, I was trying different methods to see what signal strengths I was getting at my place, same spot. Interesting enough, the signal strength bars are different when using CDMA auto prl (4-bars) and EvDo only (2-bars) mode, even though I still see the 3g icon. Also, it seems the 1x radio is always on in every mode except EvDo only, plus I tried calling using all 5 modes.
Thus far, (1-yes, 0-no) I can make a call in mode:
CDMA auto PRL - 1
CDMA only - 1
EvDo only - 0
CDMA + LTE/EvDo - 1
LTE only - 1
so my question is, why can't I (and is anyone able to) make calls over EvDo only mode? When I place one, it hangs for a sec, and ends automatically saying "Call was lost". I was hoping to get better call quality (even if I can't have 4g speed), cuz right now calls sometimes sound muffled (but clear enough to understand), compared to when I had my nexus one on t-mo. (I tried eHRPD and EvDo-rev.a modes to no avail)
PS I know (atleast I read somewhere) that the T-Bolt cannot support calls over LTE itself, or VoLTE as it's called (unless if that's changed or I am wrong.)
Any thoughts? your experiences? I just want to get ppl's thoughts on this.
So... I guess no answers then?
Well, EvDO-only would not permit any voice calls because you've told the radio to only operate with a data signal. EvDO, or "Evolution-Data Optimized", is the 3G data component of CDMA wireless networks, so without a preferred network mode that includes CDMA you won't have any voice service.
when i had my phone on evdo only (stupidly thinking it was 1x) i couldn't make or receive any calls
evdo handles data, 1x handles calls/sms

Click to collapse
Right. CDMA = 1x data and voice EVDO = data only. If you force the phone into a data only mode, voice will not function.

Enabling 2G data connection purposely on the Photon

I feel really stupid for asking this, but here goes. I have a Photon, just got one of the T-Mobile SIM cards, activated it with the $30/month unlimited web+text+100 minutes talk time thing and I'm wondering - for my own purposes, mind you - how to purposely enable only 2G data on the Photon, if at all possible.
Now, at the moment I'm running the stock 2.3.4 ROM, unlocked and rooted so I could install the KDDI radio, and my T-Mobile speeds are consistently in the 5-6 Mbps range which is more than acceptable and I have zero issues with that service at the moment.
Having said that, and again for my own purposes, is there a specific way to get the 3G data connection switched to straight 2G/EDGE mode directly on this thing? I will be moving over to cybik's CM7 ROM here shortly and I can't recall (when I ran it a few days ago) if there's an option in the Mobile networks menu to switch from 2G to 3G. I was able to see the T-Mobile 2G network under the secondary menu as an available network, and I selected it but it still appears to be 3G.
Guess I'll play around with it some more, maybe there's a toggle on Google Play or something, just thought I'd toss the question out since I can't seem to locate such a toggle myself. DOH!!!
Update:
Installed that CM7 from cybik and it does have a menu toggle to directly enable 2G mode, works fine here for me (140-180 Kbps consistent, works great for streaming audio which I listen to frequently, iHeartRadio and a bunch of different police scanners online from RadioReference using Scanner Radio Pro). But I'm still wondering if it's possible to enable that with the stock 2.3.4 ROM directly, if anyone can offer any info, thanks.

It is for the atrix, but should be similar for stock.
Also you are correct CM7 has those settings allowed by default.
Also you can set the mode in the *#*#4636#*#* menu. Under phone information > CDMA Only = 2G ; EvDO only = 3G
Also: be careful editing the settings in the *#*#4636#*#* menu under the stock rom. It did it once and locked my phone on GSM and had to SBF to restore CDMA. Dunno why it did that but I have seen others have the same issue. IIRC i didn't even enable GSM it just happened when I entered the phone information menu.

No data connectivity at all when 4G enabled on tmo US, works with 3G though

Hi All,
I just got the international Z5c, model E5823, which supports both tmo us LTE bands in my area (bands 1 and 12). When I have preferred network type set to 3G, I get more bars and have data connectivity. When I switch it to 4G, the bars go down to 1 or 2, and I get no data.
I did a logcat while switching from 3G to 4G and noticed that while switching, the icon switches between H+ and H, then eventually drops out. I'm still trying to see if there is anything useful in the logcat, but the one thing I noticed that seemed interesting was
Code:
D/StatusBar.NetworkController( 2598): updateIconSet, voice network type is: 13/LTE, data network type is: 13/LTE
To me, this looks like I might be seeing issues with some failed attempt to use voice over lte (as this phone supports it).
Regardless, does anyone know how I can disable voice over LTE? There was an option in the phone menu on the Z3 supposedly that would let you toggle, but I don't see it anywhere on this.
I'm going to be cross posting this in the sony forums as well, so if I hear back I'll post here.
Fixed it. I turned it onto 3g and selected "Internet settings" from the networking menu, which seems to have downloaded some configuration stuff from my carrier. After switching back to 4g I have fully working data.

Cellular network issue (StraightTalk, AT&T, Marshmallow, LePro3)

Background:
LeEco LePro3 (LEX727) bought a year ago and in service since that time.
Not rooted. (Nor do I wish to root, if that was even possible.)
Use Nova Launcher for better desktop experience
StraightTalk on AT&T network. Indoors, usually shows LTE with 2 bars.
"Fully patched". LeEco EUI version 5.8.021S. (No LeEco Android updates available since 1/2017 as they pulled out of the USA market.)
Android 6.0.1.
Android security patch level January 1, 2017.
Handset worked fine for many months.
There was no obvious change or trauma to the handset (no drops, skills, weather exposure, etc.)
Lately, there have been data issues when WiFi is disabled.
(Everything still works with a WiFi connection.)
Not all features work with the StraightTalk/AT&T data connection when WiFi is disabled.
StraightTalk/AT&T data function details:
SIM card status
Signal strength -110 dBm 27 asu
Cellular network type LTE
Service status Voice: In service / Data: In service
Cellular network state Connected
Phone works (can make & receive calls).
Simple text messaging works (can send & receive texts)
MMC messaging works (can send & receive MMC texts)
(Ookla) Speedtest App works with good speeds.
Google Chrome browsing does not work "ERR_EMPTY_RESPONSE"
Firefox browsing does not work "Secure Connection Failed The connection to the server was reset while the page was loading."
Gmail does not download messages, sent messages are stuck in Outbox ("Queued")
Google Maps does not work "Can't connect to Maps".
Google Play does not work. When searching for Apps, "No internet connection. Make sure Wi-Fi or cellular data is turned on, then try again."
Troubleshooting steps taken:
Adjust AT&T APN settings used as per StraightTalk Tech Support.
Change out StraightTalk/AT&T SIM card with StraightTalk Tech Support assistance.
Factory/Hard Reset with reinstallation of all accounts & Apps.
Anyone know how to fix my web data issue? (Or know what further tests/observations to make?)

Wifi calling button grays out each time a call begins

I am experiencing an intermittent problem where Wifi Calling gets disabled on incoming/outgoing phone calls. The button starts out looking enabled, but the second I accept an incoming call or dial outward I notice the Wifi Calling icon gets grayed out. Once the icon gets grayed out, the call experience is equivalent to having Wifi Calling enabled. In other words, it seems to be dropping back to LTE. I have very poor reception in my office so LTE calls drop out very frequently.
How do I go about troubleshooting the underlying cause?
Background information:
* The phone is an unlocked, unrooted Samsung S9+ running Android 8.0.0. The model number is SM-G965W. The build number is R16NW.G965WVLU2ARF7.
* My service provider is Rogers (Canada). They have noticeably worse LTE service than my previous provider (Telus) but it's unclear whether this is the cause of the problem.
* The phone is connected to my home router, running OpenWRT 18.06.1.
* The internet connection is 25Mbps down, 10Mbps up.
Are there any sort of log files I could look into which would indicate why Wifi Calling is getting disabled, or dropping to LTE?
If this forum isn't the right place to ask, where else could I ask?
Thank you,
Gili
