i cant seem to find a simple reply to this question. why do the google apps need to be flashed? why cant their apk's just be installed individually? i know there is a good reason, but i was wanting a quick explanation if someone cares to give it.
custom roms dont come with market preloaded (at least mine didnt have it). flashing gapps gives you it
this is my guess. i can be wrong for all i know
EDIT: now that i think about it, i remember reading something similar to the post below

Somewhere I saw something about licensing issues if they were included in custom ROM's that were not licensed by an appropriate entity.
I meant, why do they need to be flashed at all? Why can't they just be installed like other apk's?

2. Is there any official stock for 2.2? I have looked, can't seem to find it.
3. sbl.bin?
4. Is there a thread i missed that is a nice list of terms?
Thanks for the help.

Just google it, but basically it allows an app to be themed.
2. Is there any official stock for 2.2? I have looked, can't seem to find it.
Check the dev section Bible
3. sbl.bin?
Secondary Boot Loader
4. Is there a thread i missed that is a nice list of terms?
My noob guide has some... let me know if I need to add others.

and yeah that basically explains it all. if you can add a brief section on the deodexing and the ilk.
btwsomehow i knew you would be the one to respond
I can't tell if that is a good, or a bad thing.
Correct me if I'm wrong, but on deodexing:
Imagine the files that are part of android are zipped up, like .zip files. You can run them that way, or you can have them unzipped aka deodexed. The files are all out there, making it easier for stuff to be changed around: instead of having to go into the compressed file, uncompress it, change stuff in it, then compress it back up again, it already runs uncompressed. There's a small (possibly negligible?) speed penalty for running deodexed, but not much.
deodexing removes the odex files from the ROM and enables custom themes. As I understand it, deodexing does not affect performance, only themes. I may be wrong though.

I am another new android user and having confusion on Rooting and changing to custom rom.
1. Does rooting make my phone able to download pay apps for free? like jail breaked iphone?
2. I have used the superoneclick on my phone lastnight. But other than seeing the SuperUser app in my page I don't see anything else different. Have I successfully rooted my phone?
3. What does the SuperUser app do for me? I've got into it and I have no idea what to do with that app.
4. Can I describe custom rom as a custom MODed UI?
5. I've googled and read a lot on different ROM. but is there any site that you guys can suggest me which has all of the popular review on roms?
1. no, pirate
2. yes
3. nothing, just give apps access to system files.
4. no
5. Here. read the stickies and the specific rom threads they describe what is changed on each rom.
Thx nunyazz,
Is there any way to pirate those apps?
Do we allow to talk about pirating apps in this forum?

I am on villain rom 2.1
I really like it and have installed CRT Off mod and just installed the blue circle mod. I dont really like it.
How do i remove this tweak. I have been searching everywhere. I found the answer but don't understand it at all. Apparently there are backups in a VRTweaks/Backup folder which i have already found. What next? I am a noob and have no clue how to delete. Please help me.
PLEASE.
Thanks.

One way would be to flash VR again. That will remove all the tweaks without wiping your data (I think... ). Then just flash the ones you like via VRTweaks.
My custom ROM didn't come with Google Talk. I don't want another IM client that can have Google talk on it i want the real thing. I have tried loading talk in system/app but it didn't load. Another time i tried again it came in the app drawer but when i opened it it crashed. I am running salty bean ROM and devil kernel. does this kernel support it or not? I did set the permissions correctly and still no luck. any one know the answer to thus question? any help appreciated,
nevermind i got it

sorry friend Idk to edit the package too
if you are rooted you can try flashing the latest gapps package that should fix this and try fixing permissions
if you are not rooted then wait for someone to edit it for you or do a search and do it yourself
