[Q] Adding additional photo albums to the gallery - Thunderbolt Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I'm just wanting to add a few additional albums to the gallery so I dont have just one massive folder...how can I do that?

Add an album to your SD card and it'll show up in the gallery.

I tried doing that recently cause that's what someone else told me but it never showed up...exactly where do I put it?

Anywhere on the SD, on the root or in any other folder. Sometimes your gallery will automatically scan for new media and it'll show up, sometimes it'll be a day or so before it'll show up. I don't know how to get it to search manually, there may be a setting if you hit the menu button while in the gallery. There is an app called SD rescan (I think that's the name) but it takes forever.

Thanks for the info, I'll try again

Still no joy, I put the folder in 2 separate places and it still isn't showing. I'm at work but will post where I put them later today.

Maybe try a reboot to see if that will rebuild the library, or download and run SD rescan

Album doesn't see photos if I move them

Hi,
My apologies if this has already been asked. I tried searching, but didn't find anything.
I like to keep my photos organized, so that if I snap a pic of my son, I later go into Astro File Explorer and move it to a folder called "Our son" (or such).
Problem is, when I open the Album -app, it still remembers the old locations and shows only grey squares where the photos used to be. If I try to view them, the Album -app crashes.
So, how would I go about refreshing the database Album uses for what photos I have on my sd card? If I kill the Album -app, it tells me "scanning sd for images" when I restart it, but still shows the old locations with grey squares.
If I restart my phone, it sees the new locations and everything works as it should, but I don't like the idea of restarting each time I move a photo...
I'll answer it myself: I recently learned a lot of program "cleanings" can be done from home screen -> menu -> settings -> applications -> manage applications -> the application you want to clean.
So I went to the app "Album" and cleaned the cache. On the next restart it finds all the photos in the right folders.
So if you manually organize your photos, just clean the cache before launching albums again.
Oh , thanks jayjay , I had a photo in my device then I fixed it through a software and I returned it , but the device shows me the old one until I zoom on it !! , but now I can make the device shows it with out zooming on the picture .

Samsung Music Player Duplicates

So I have been having duplicate song issues. It seemed to happen when I moved around my files. My music player list will show like 2 or 3 albums, but only one will play. The other one or two entire albums will give an error saying 'This file does not exist.' I see that 'Media scanner running' info on the status bar but it never fixes this issue. Anyone else have this problem or a fix?
If it matters this has happened both on internal and external memory.
Thanks.
Nope, never had this problem. Try to remove all music files and see if the player shows anything. If not, then add the ones that were showing duplicates and see if it happens again.
I am having the same issue but i normally use double twist
Delete your cache in Settings, Applications, Manage Applications, Music.
Also, delete the /sdcard/albumthumbs folder.
Reboot and it should rebuild your song list.
I had tried deleting cache before but didn't see it. I didn't realize there were multiple sorting options on this phone, whoops. The 'delete cache' was dark and would not let me click it, but I tried deleting data and the albumthumbs but it still didn't work. I am just going to try erasing it all and re-adding the music and not moving it around again... Thanks for the help though!
Did you find your fix? I had to leave everything out of a folder on the sdcard to stop this annoyance.
I hope this helps
If you are rooted I would recomend purchasing the full version of the app "SD Maid" from the market.
I had an issue from doubletwist that was resulting in duplicate music files.
I'm pretty sure that the reason it happens is; when we are syncing music (possibly alot at once) most programs recognize the 16g internal storage as possibly a indipendent device. This could be because of the potential to swap out your sd card to share music but on second though probably not.
its probably just a random error.
If you are unrooted or otherwise unable to use sd maid (id recomend rooting and flashing a custom rom but if thats not what you want to do then get the free astro file manager from the market and you should see in your home directory a file called music or it could within another file titled media. Regardless where you want it to be is on your external sd card.
you can delete the directory titled music but first check the file titled external media.
You should see all of your music there as well.
I have played with the settings on doubletwist as well as spotify and this is the best solution.
(If you use sd maid then go into duplicates and very very very patiently select all of the boxes it lets you and then just hit the delete duplicates up top)

You can always just restart the phone to do both.
Or rescan the external SD card by going into Settings>Storage>Unmount SD Card. Then Mount the SD card.
Even restarting doesn't hide/add the files :/
I've never tried the .nomedia thing. I just know that if your music files are formatted properly, they won't show up in your photo gallery to begin with. I have over 1000 song files and I've never had any album art show up in the gallery.
As for why you are having problems with media scanning. You got me. Mine always shows 'Scanning' when it reboots.
Mine doesn't show scanning at rebooting : the launcher appears directly and i can use it directly too...
Can u try with a .nomedia file please ?
I use an app from play store called rescan sd.
Works perfectly and it's free
Hey i try it but it doesn't do anything ... I also try same kind of applications but any of them work.
In the application manager 'Force stop' and 'Clear data' of Media Storage and Gallery. You might have to unmount/remount the card to make it visible.
Hey, thanks for reply. I doesn't work but it don't care anymore : i go on my PC and copy/paste again, then it shows up.

Some of those rescan apps don't SEEM to do anything. Run them, they exit. BUT check your phone a few minutes later. They just trigger the rescan but it's not instant. I have to do it coz my kids use the WeeMee app to create avatars for all my contacts but when it saves them I can't find them until I do this and wait a while.

Gallery not working. Not seeing other folders FIXED

My default Gallery app is not working properly. It is not seeing other folders. It only see Camera folder from the last few days. There are no Whatsapp Folder where I can see any photos, etc
I have put it in "Albums" mode.
I have gone to the app setting and clear the cache on this app. Do force stop. Go and check and its still the same. I dont have a SD card.
If using other picture app, I can see more photos. But not with Gallery app anymore.
Any ideas what had gone wrong?
Thanks.
I wonder if SD Maid mess this thing up?
The other folders are not indexed by the media contentprovider. You need to trigger a rescan, e.g. in SD Maids Explorer select a folder and select "Force mediascan".
Sometimes rebooting, or replugging a usb or sdcard also helps.
I just solved my problems and I am MAD! I plug my phone into my PC and do this below:
I just removed the file '.nomedia' from android root directory. All my files are back again on gallery apps.
I am pretty sure that this file was created after installing google photos. (This is not my comment but maybe helpful to some?)

I can't move out pictures from secure folder anymore

Hello,
four days ago, the gallery in secure folder removed the option to move the pictures out to the normal gallery.
Do you have the same problem?
Where can I report the problem to Samsung?
Yep same. It just happened to me today and I am unable to get them out... Not sure wth happened but that option is gone!?!
Same thing happened to me. I figured it out.
They updated so you cant move pictures from the gallary app, on the secure folder menu u have to chose my files then images and the hold the picture u want to move out and press move out of folder.
Well that's a bunch of pull.... moving it.... just another step to do
