I've tried doing a search for this issue to no avail.
I'm currently running a rooted LeoMar ROM.
I've tried updating the Market to the old market using the installer zip (I've tried several) from ClockworkMod Recovery. Initially, the old market installs fine and it works for probably 15 seconds.
After 15 seconds, it crashes and is replaced by the NEW Market again. I think google is pushing their New Market to me over the air, but I don't want them to. I prefer the old Market UI to the new one.
Is there anyway to permanently prevent Google from pushing the New Market while I have the old one installed?
Thanks!
Try replacing the new market in system/app with the old one and reboot and fix permissions that might work.
try this.:

. Here's how to kill it for good.
1. Menu>Settings>Manage applications>All>Market>Uninstall Updates
2. Using RootExplorer uninstall MarketUpdater.apk & MarketUpdater.Odex
Done. No more Google Market Updates!

If you've got "RootExplorer", do yourself a favor JUST IN CASE Google ever stops the old version from working and RENAME the APK file ".PKA" instead of uninstalling. Reboot after you do, and you're good!

Thanks this worked!
Just freeze the stuff would you. It's the same idea as 'renaming' the extension. You can always turn back.
This is done using Titanium Backup or Bloatware Freezer.

Anyone else have this issue? To install the new market I had to use my system app remover, and I wonder if that's what went wrong. I have the AT&T 2.3.4 rom and am (obviously) rooted, unlocked bootloader, yada yada yada...
When I click an app or game it will go through the screens until I hit "Install" and then pops up this:
{
"lightbox_close": "Close",
"lightbox_next": "Next",
"lightbox_previous": "Previous",
"lightbox_error": "The requested content cannot be loaded. Please try again later.",

Any suggestions? Or does anyone have an APK of the original market I can install? I think it was listed as vending or android.vending or something like that.
(Note to self: back things up before removing them = )
Once I backup my market i will post link. backing up now.

Its the vending.apk should revert you back to working market
try if dont work let me know.
Just use the app manager to uninstall the update. That's what I did to get back to the old version.

Thanks, market looks like old one, but now I get force close more frequently, after clicking pretty much anything. Like as soon as I click "Games" at the top I have force close now. I must have removed something important when I uninstalled the old market... I don't use the market enough to really care that it's gone though, and any app that I find there I could just sideload I guess. If it bothers me enough I'll just re-flash. Thanks for the help guys.
flash 2.3.4 system.img via fastboot just the system should fix it
I had to do that once or twice
Thanks I'll try that right now, just backing up all my apps and stuff. I'll try just flashing system, and then won't restore the market app when I restore backups if it works. I'll post back results in case this happens to anyone else.
Update: Flashing just system worked like a charm, still have all my apps and all too! Thanks for the suggestion Xenocyde!

How to install:
Make sure you have "install from unknown sources" checked on settings.
Different methods
A) Download to PC, then upload to dropbox, and download to phone.
B) Use ADB:
Code:
adb install -r com.android.vending-1.apk
C) Mount USB to computer, dragg .apk file to sd card. Unmount, use a file manager and install.
Enjoy!
Thanks for posting.
Nice find bro

Yup. All phones.
Although, it didn't install for me because of a duplicate package error.
EDIT: I suppose it would help if I followed the directions. the -r flag for adb install is most likely mandatory, but I just removed the existing Vending app on my system MTD.
This Market is the difference between night and day. No UI glitches, transitions are very smooth. The UI redesign is very nice and information is organized much better. It even has different sub-categories like trends, etc. 5 stars.
It installs on mine but always crashes at launch??
Edit: fixed. I had to remove market updater as well and reboot. This market is the ish.

When I try to download apps from the new market it always crashes. What am I doing wrong ?
Edit: just got it in a flashable zip. It's all fine now .

Thanks for this. Really a significantly better market here.
I got this update automatically a couple of weeks ago, and I gotta say, sexy. The old new market was so full of glitches with updating and crashing under load, this market performs significantly better and has a snappier UI. Doesn't take forever to download things or to load pages. I'm pretty sure the update has rolled out to all handsets that hadn't otherwise manually installed the update by now. I gotta hand it to Google for fixing the market up though.

I am rooted but when I try to install it simply says Application not installed. Do I need to flash this in recovery or manually put it in my system folder or something other than installing it normally?

You have to extract its contents like the op says there is 6 apk files in that zip
Sent from my PG06100 using Tapatalk
Yes, I know. I did that. When I extract them and then try to install blue.apk it fails on me. I'll try the mediafire one this time and see if maybe something happened to my downloaded dropbox one.
Edit - Yep, still won't work for me. I am running the gingerbread-shift-deck rom if that matters. Seems weird considering I could install the updated market posted by thronnos a few days ago.

What i did was used 7zip to look inside the apk then moved red.apk to my sdcard and it installed fine for Supreme Sense

Anybody know?
I'm running on PCM7 JB Patch
Install it like a normal app? If it doesn't install it needs to be copied to system where it can overwrite the existing copy. But find out if the themed version has been updated to 4.5.10.

Tried to copy to system/app...it doesn't work, btw my file explorer is already rooted
Someone tell playstore black theme must be install with custom recovery, and I flashing it with streakmod,it's succesfully...but when reboot is done, nothing happen...playstore still on stock version
Or playstore black theme is only available for ICS and Up?!
Sent from my Dell Streak using xda app-developers app
So when you copied the file, did you rename it to Vending.apk or Phonesky.apk so it would overwrite the existing app? Did you change the permissions to rw-r--r-- once you overwrote the existing file? Both of those things, as well as clearing the Dalvik cache, are required for the Play Store to change. I would know, as I did it just recently when the Play Store was updated to 4.5.10.
Yes,I've already rename to vending.apk
But,overwrite in explorer or flash in streakmod, wipe dalvik cache, still not working with changed name
Btw didn't found of playstore black theme v4.5.10,latest version is 4.4.22
Sent from my Dell Streak using xda app-developers app
You need to ask the source to update the black-themed version to 4.5.10, otherwise Google will automatically update the app and the customizations made to the app will be hidden. Look to see if an update is installed. If one is, uninstall the update. Just don't be surprised when it automatically updates again.

Using adb, you can try running Settings and see what's going on. Are your apps really missing or is your launcher just screwed up?
Do you have any data on the device? I would consider just backing up everything and reflashing a stock ROM or doing a clean wipe.

I already tried that and all APPs are missing. There's nothing installed. and I don't have custom recovery to return to stock ROM. And can't install gapps because in recovery there's no section saying install zip or something like that. i tried and wrote gapps and rom on sd card and can't flash them.
Have you tried adb pushing the apk for google apps and then launching the app via homescreen icon or adb shell command?
This is the first time I've ever encountered all apps missing. Also since you don't have a custom recovery installed, you can always root and install it.

Thank you for your help but i think it's dead. I tried pushing apps and launching via shell but no deal. I installed play store but when i try to download something it crushes immediately. Thanks again...
