WiFi Issues With Photon:( Anyone Else - Motorola Photon 4G

I have a Motorola Xoom and I get 72Mbps on Wireless N 2.4ghz, and while at the same time I am getting 6Mbps in the same location on the Moto Photon . I have a Netgear 4000 (N750) and I am about 7ft away with both devices. Is the WiFi Radio that Horrible in the Photon. Wireless SUCKS. I am on Channel 11 (the only person in the neighborhood, everyone else is still on default channel 6).
Anyone else having this issue. I just got this today and Love the phone, and but the Wireless is Terrible and may force me to take it back. I have Time Warner Cable (Roadrunner Plus 25Mbps Down & 2Mbps Up. I am baffled. Unless the Photon Wireless Radio SUCKS BALLS. I have updated the PRL & Profile.

What are you using to check your wifi speeds? Is it the same app on both?

I am using WiFi Analyzer on my Xoom only. I called Moto and Sprint and it has been escalated. 6Mbps is Rediclous. I have been doing this IT thing for 15+ years (installed AP's, Routers, Switches etc.etc) and NEVER have seen a WiFi Signal fluxuate like the Photon's does (from 72Mbps to 11Mbps in the matter of a couple of minutes or if I move around). I even turned off my 5ghz SSID and that did not help. It's really wierd.
Edit: I am now using the same WiFi Analyzer on my Photon and it shows the same results

Is 6Mbps too slow to load things on a phone? I guess I'm confused what you'd need more speed for on a phone...

I'm seeing 18/17mb down and ~10 up using speedtest on my 802.11n 2.4ghz wifi.. dlink router if it makes a difference, using wpa2
(my internet's capable of 50/10)
-m

Just out of curiosity I ran a speed test
- i have 22x5 Connection. Only 1 bar signal on the wifi meters on the phone cause I'm pretty far from my router. Not too bad though.

It's not too slow, BUT my Xoom gets ALOT better WiFi reception (has a better WiFi Radio). I feel the WiFi Radio in the Photon is Crap (8 Radio's in the Photon and the most important one is garbage, alot of people will use WiFi). Hopefully there is a Firmaware update that fixes it. We don't buy these expensive WiFi Routers to get 6Mbps. Even the guys at Sprint agreed with me. That's low. Should see at least 28Mbps and above with the router I have.
I guess it's just a pet peeve of mine after doing this for so long, I know what I should be getting and it bothers me. Especially when WIFi Analyzer says my signal is Awesome.

Fascinate speedtest.net issue

Fascinate speedtest.net issue
I have a fascinate running 3.0/dl9 ie 2.2.1-when I run speedtest.net results are pretty crappy for northern VA, usually around 500-800kb. Anyone else getting terrible speeds? Is there places to check settings for this? My wife has a Droid x and she got about 2600 on a test last night three times. Seems like my fascinate is throttled. Any advice appreciated.
Sent from my SCH-I500 using XDA App
The fascinate seems to have a ****ty antenna, my OG droid gets at least -10 dBm more than my fascinate no matter where it is at. Hope fully when they actually release froyo it has a better modem and gets better service(which I doubt). I also get really ****ty connections to mobile networks and even wifi networks, I can be 10 feet from the router and only get 2 bars for it. I am trying to see if I can add iwconfig and iwlist commands to the fascinate, but I am having little success with it. I am not too knowledgeable with android at this point.
Was your wifes wifi on? I rarely get over 1mbps
Sent from my SCH-I500 using XDA Premium App
EVDO can't support more than about 1.5Mbps for a sustained transfer. The 2600 that your wife got would have dropped down if the test had run longer, at least it should have as that is more like a burst speed, which could be in the 3-4Mbps range. Your results seem completely normal.
I hit 1.7mbps on 3g yesterday in the los Angeles area
Sent from my SCH-I500
I believe that Verizon's EV-DO Rev. A network has a max burst rate of 3.1mbps. Sustained rate should be about 1/2 of this. I consistently get 1.5Mbps and I have a giant cell tower right outside my work (I get 4 bars even in the middle of the building).
speedtest
I'm topping out at about .14mb up and .29mb down with three bars on 3g... It's pretty consistently low, usually about .1 for both. I can barely stream a 2 minute youtube video half the time.
My Samsung Omnia was much, much faster- I could tether and stream Netflix with very little buffer time using it. With this, it's a laughable thought. Disappointing, and I haven't been able to find any suggestions for boosting it.

Installed the above config and it brought my test speed up to .70/.54. Much improved. I'd like to blame the rest of the slow speeds on living in a rural area, but it's not THAT rural (just outside Atlanta), and I have a friend who gets MUCH faster speeds on his Incredible.

Way better then the wifi on the Palm Pre (v1). I'm able to walk about 15 foot or so farther and remain connected to the home WLAN.
I'm having all sorts of issues with WiFi. it seems to be broadcast storming my network when requesting a DHCP address. The sprint store told me the only way to connect it to wifi was to put it airplane mode, then enable wifi. Well that didn't work for me.
Any suggestions would help.

"Best wi-fi performance"
I was getting terrible wi-fi reception at home and at work (very short range, dropped connections), then I found an option buried in the wi-fi "advanced" settings called "best wi-fi performance" which warns that it "may consume more power." Turned it on and immediately got a full-strength signal. First speed test from my office, where I had previously been unable to connect at all, got 16278kbps down and 4110kbps up. Guess I'll keep that option checked.
16129 down and 3655 up using my WFI with Comcast as my base broadband provider. I did enable "best WFI".

Out fo curiosity, what's been the hit on battery with this option?
Wifi signal is great, however this is the 3rd HTC phone I've had that wont stay connected to wifi. I get no service in my house so wifi is a must, however after some time it disconnects, then tries to reconnect but hangs on "AUTHENTICATING WITH WIRELESS". My galaxy s 4g never disconnected on me, but the mytouch 3g, mytouch 4g and now my evo 3d cant hold a connection.
It's good, but it gets better when your in WiFi settings, tap menu button, hit advanced, and click best WiFi performance.

Agreed I can actually get a signal OUTSIDE of my house. I am very pleased with the wifi reception
I was getting 3m down, 1m up with my rooted Hero. My laptop gets 20m down 5m up. The 3vo is getting 14m down, 4m up; amazing!

huge speedtest improvement?

Was getting between 5-8 mbps past week on 4 different local servers now today I am getting 15-20 mbps on those same servers has anyone else noticed this or is this just a fluke for me tonight?
Were the tests done at the same time-of-day, and none in the weekends?
Speed tests over the Internet add its variability into the mix. You should limit the test to your LAN only. A simple big-file-copy test should suffice.
Time-of-day may still matter, depending on your wireless environment's density. If it's crowded, a 9PM test would have lower performance than, say, a 3AM test.
no but ill check that now
it's odd but it seems like the more I use my prime the faster it gets in general... maybe I am getting used to it. Opera browser+ Go keyboard with tablet plug in in 10" tablet format is ftw
I've had the opposite experience with speed test results. After the update yesterday, I'm getting a puny 3mbps when I usually averaged 20+ on a 35+ network.
distance is key
People keep just mentioning speeds but not their location in respect to the router.
In the same room as router I get 20 mbps. Next room over 1 wall I drop down to 5 mbps.
In my bedroom 2 walls I drop to about 3mbps. Meanwhile my HTC tbolt is getting 12 mbps.
Is this kind of quick dropoff common for other users
I get .5 to 2.5 mbps on my prime my gnex gets ~10 and so does my dads iPad on our wifi. I got one of the bad units

There was speculation among some of the Prime reviews that router brand matters.
In fact I think one of them made of a chart with speedtests from the same location and different routers.
time of day, location or distance from router, router brand, and network settings will all affect download and upload speeds. too many variables in the mix.
I tried doing a speedtest test yesterday, and the first time got a 5mbs DL and 1mbs UL. I then did the test on my phone and it said 18mbs DL and 5bms UL. So I was like wtf until I noticed that the app chose 2 different servers. I changed it up to the closest to me and what a difference. I hit 25mbs DL and 5mbs UL on my TP and I got 22mbs DL and 5mbs Ul on my phone. I am still rocking the .29 update since I can't update to the .33 just yet.
My Wifi speeds got quite a bit faster from the .33 update.
Before the update speedtest.net app showed around 15-20Mbit/s now it's up to 25-30Mbit/s.
My internet connection has a constant speed of 32Mbit/s which is working all day no matter what time. Upload speeds are always 1Mbit/s which is the maximum of my line.
So I got a perfectly working Touchscreen and faster Wifi with this update --> perfectly happy now!
Edit: location was both times the same ofc.

I'm pretty sure they're all "bad" units. People who claim they have no wifi problems just aren't comparing the speed to other devices at decent distances from the router. Rather, I suspect they're basing their conclusions on the fact that browsing is fine.

For any other WiFi device I use on my network, I can use the results from SpeedTest as a true estimate of the actual speeds that device can achieve, but I don't feel that way about the Prime.
While my SpeedTest results are in the 3 Mbps range for the Prime, I have no problem HD recording from Netflix, Veetle, Youtube or VLC.
Can anyone suggest another method for testing speeds on the Prime?
Best speed on my prime was on lower odd-numbered channels 3,5,8. But I'm on a 3-4 year old linksys router running dd-wrt.

not neccessarily. as i said before I tested Prime against my ipad1 and Atrix4g phone and Prime consistently pulled faster speeds regardless of distance and signal strength shown. did the same with atrix4g. and Prime using wifi analyzer. Prime was right on par with signal strength of phone. the Prime is just more sensitive to changes. but once again, it never affected its speeds. you have me, Diamondback2010 and a lot more showing great wifi download and upload speeds. maybe those who are experiencing issues need to check their router settings or something. Because to say everyone has bad wifi is incorrect. especially since 12/22 my prime has been connected to my wireless network nonstop. never dropped a connection or had issues with speed dropping off no matter where I was or how far from router.
edit: just did a quick speedtest.net test on Comcast network on Netgesr router
Download: 25mb
upload: 4mb
ping: 16ms
that's pretty damn good in my book n I've pulled even higher speeds on Prime b4
For those of you noticing poor WiFi range and wondering whether you have a defective Prime from the much talked about early defective batch (like me), I suggest you read this article:
http://www.anandtech.com/show/5178/an-update-on-transformer-prime-battery-life-wifi-issues
The reviewer in the article had both a defective Prime and a non-defective, replacement Prime, and compared the WiFi between the two.
Basically, the defective Prime had a cap of about 2 Mbps at any location. That is, even right near the router, the defective Prime wouldn't pull more than 2 Mbps, and was averaging about 0.5 Mbps in speed tests.
The non-defective replacement Prime the reviewer later got fixed this 2 Mbps cap problem, but still didn't have great speeds when moved away from the router. For example, the non-defective Prime the reviewer had got about 10-16 Mbps, while the original Transformer got about 34-37 Mbps at the same location.
So for those of you considering returning or RMA'ing your Prime because you get big speed drop-offs when moving away from the router, I strongly suggest you reconsider, since it seems this is a limitation/design flaw in all Primes. Stated simply, if you're not capped at a ridiculously low speed while at any location, your Prime is not defective.

[Solved] WiFi issues on 802.11g + WPA2-PSK

Yea, I realize I'm the odd ball still running an old wrt54g for his home router but its all I need.
My problem though is that my newly acquired d-inc 4g can't connect to the WiFi at any faster than 12mbps with excellent signal. Now my girlfriends iPhone 4 sitting right near it gets the full 54mbps connection speed. And to further annoy me, my older rooted d-inc 2 gets 54mbps out the front door, no issues,
And to add to the slow speed, when the phone goes to sleep there is no WiFi data after it wakes back up. It remains connected, I just can't use it oddly.
Anyone willing and able to help a guy out?

have you ever updated the firmware on your router?
Yea, I'm running dd-wrt v24-sp2 mini build 14896. No linksys bull stability issues here.
WiFi is running in mixed mode, channel 11, WPA2-PSK AES (TKIP sucks), with slightly boosted tx power (75mW vs default 71mW), no afterburner but frame burst is on with a long preamble
Sent from my ADR6410LVW using xda app-developers app
This was solved. It was the routers fault. Apparently due to the recent storms at the time boucing the power, the flash on the router got into a bad state and required a 30-30-30 reset and has been happily working since then.

Verizon Fios wifi download speeds

Hey guys, I have fios with 50/25 mbps I can get around 40 with my laptop but my note is getting low teens. I switched from a wep security to wpa2 security whichever increased my wifi on my laptop but not on my phones (note 2 and ssg3).
Any ideas how to increase this? Am I missing a setting when connecting to wifi? At the moment, my 4g is faster than my wifi.
Upload speeds are fine... Actually higher than my download speeds. Seems like something is restricting my download speed.
Thanks in advance.

I have FiOS as well and encounter the same "problem...". My chrombook gets above 40 Mbps and my Note 2 gets around 18-25 even standing next to my router...I just think its the way it is to be honest...I really don't know but just wanted to share that I'm seeing the same thing here...it really doesn't inhibit my experience at all 18-25 Mbps is perfectly fine for cell phone downloads etc.

Same set up here...with similar results. I did some research on this as my ipad2 (which is now in a drawer thanks to the Note 2 BTW) wasn't getting anywhere near the speed I would have expected despite it supposedly being N compatible (my lenovo laptop gets 45 Mbps down all the time). Best answer I could find is that not all wireless radios are equal and can't handle the same speeds.
I have a 25 download connection on FIOS, and am sitting in my living room about ten feet from my router. I just ran a test on my laptop and phone via speedtest.net, and got 24/5 on the laptop and 25/6 on the Note 2. Initially I was going to respond to your post and say I am used to the same result you are seeing, but I just proved myself wrong.
When I'm in other parts of the house however, I do tend to see more of a performance degradation on the phone vs. the laptop...I don't have any exact data at the moment since I'm feeling too lazy to walk upstairs and repeat the test, but I do know the falloff happens more rapidly on the phone with distance from the router.
This is what I get on my Comcast 50/15 connection.
Desktop hardwired: 59Mbps down / 12Mbps up
Desktop wireless: 55Mbps down / 12Mbps up
Note 2: 40Mbps down / 16Mbps up
My desktop on wireless connects at 144Mbps, while my Note 2 only connects at 72Mbps. Both are within 4' of the router. Both using the same SpeedTest.net server.
I've noticed a huge difference in WiFi speeds between the different radios, the one that had given me the best spotted on WiFi is VRAMC3. The one that gives me the best speed on LTE is L4. The speed definitely differs from which radio you flash, that's why I wish Samsung would give our devs access to their radio tools and let us build our own. I guarantee if they did we wouldn't see this kind of crap.
