Recently purchased a Galaxy S II coming from the first one, liking it alot.
Just wondering, does anyone know if Samsung modified the charger as they did with the original?
I'm not sure on the specifics of what they did, something along the lines of shorting out the data lines on the USB which would let the phone know it's a official charger and let it charge at full speed.
TL;DR can I use any USB charger to charge at full speed?

My other android phone chargers (the one I have from my HTC Hero) charge as fast as the original actually!

You could use ANY Micro USB charger connector. However if you use a USB cable, it won't do at full speed charging.
The stock charger only outputs 700mA so with a stock kernel that lets the phone draw more (Its capped to like 650mA), upto 1A and a 1A charger it will charge a lot faster.
Gets a bit hotter while doing it though, nothing to be to worried about.
YMMV/not my fault if it explodes/etc

Hey guys I was wondering if anyone else is having a similar problem... let me go into some detail...
When I charge the phone with the original Samsung charger or with the oroginal USB cable via PC it charges fine... so not some major problem...
Today I tried charging my phone with a iPhone charger using the original Samsung USB cable...
The phone was charging and the phone was on and working... but the screen wasn't responding at all... tho the power button was as well as the capacitive buttons... but ofcourae since the phone was locked they wouldn't do anything cuz I wasn't able to slide to unlock... it also seemed as if the apple charger got quite hot... but I'm not sure if that's how hot it normally gets...
Now I know normally it says everywhere to use the original chargers bla bla but most chargers aare interchangeable as far as I imagine... have use other HTC or Motorola chargers for other phones... but I do know apple products tend tto act up when connected to other non apple products...
So my question is does anyone know If tthis is normal with trying to use a apple charger with other phones...??
What I was also thinking is the original chargers output is 0.7A while the apple charger is 1A... both being 5volts ttho... maybe that's the problem...??
Any ideas...??

I think there's your problem... You're giving the phone more current that it can handle and can make the phone to do weird things...
I don't know if its just me or there are more that think alike, but I like to think that Apple is Apple and has its connectors/chargers and there's the rest of the world with their universal adapters, so I wouldn't try to mix those two worlds together...
If you need an spare charger/cable, get a standard microUSB cable or charger for any brand and will work without problems. I usually charge my Galaxy S2 with the HTC Desire USB cable without problems.
That's what I'm thinking too... that apple products just don't mix too well with other products... like even their handsfree for the iPhone... if I plug it into my laptop it just restarts... everytime... its weird as hell...
And yea maybe your right... only thing is I like the size of the apple charger being so small and compact hence Ita always laying in my bag... thought I could use it to charge my headset and phone...
Another thing that kinda worries me is the fact that if 1A is too much power... I just ordered a New Trent IMP70D battery pack... it has 2 USB ports for charging... one rated at 1A and the other at 2.1A... hope that's not going to be an issue with being too much power... :S
Tho I have read people are using it with their S2 with no problems...

I had the same problem a while back using a 1A charger after my samsung charger failed on me. So now I'm using my sons blackberry 700ma charger (he lost his phone DOH!) which I think is the same output as the samsung chargers.

If you really want to use the iphone charger with 1A current, then flash siyah kernel and use voltage control app to tune and make your phone receive the whole 1A current.

Yea Samsungs range from 700-800ma from what iv used on my sgs and sgs2...

Hmmm... interesting... I didn't know we could do that... but I rather not change the stock cm7 kernel... hear ppl have issues with compatibility ...

Hi i have a At&t Samsung galaxy note i717 in white on stock rom flashed with tmobile 4g and using tmobile sim card. i have Clockworkmod latest one and superuser. My notes charging time is extremely slow. I leave it on the charger for 2 hours and it is only at 12% and for it to be 100% i have to leave it over night. like 12 hours. no water damage. never dropped. is there a way to fix it by software or something? please help. i am running 2.3.6 Kernal 2.6.35.11 build gingerbread.ucla1
Use the stock charger and cable. The ones that came with the phone.

I have the same problem but nobody can help me! (except mine is only when I'm using a usb extension cable)
The Note is near tablet in power draw and needs a "fast charge" charger which basically means that the data pins on the cable are shorted to tell the phone it's a wall charger. The stock charger has this and some aftermarket chargers. As far as the extension not working I would bet that the added length adds too much resistance and the phone doesn't see it as shorted anymore, you may be able to make it work with a higher quality cable.

I've tried 3 different USB extension cables... I just ordered a single 6 foot charging cable for the i717 from eBay so we shall see!

I have Samsung Galaxy S3 (I9300) international version and as my charger got damaged, I was using existing Nokia Micro USB charger with output of 5V & 1.2 Amp.
Samsung's original charger has got specifications of 5V & 1 Amp.
When I read about using higher current charger, many places it was mentioned that phone will charge faster. So I was ok to use this charger.
I can see that charging has become faster but the problem is when the phone is charging the screen do not respond to touch correctly.
Once I remove the charger it becomes normal.
So wanted to check if using this charger is there possibility of damaging the phone? And What is the reason that screen do not respond correctly for Nokia charger?
Looking forward for your expert advise....

Hi, I had a very similar issue with my old Atrix 2. I too was using a higher current charger because I didn't have the original fitting for my outlets. I don't think the phone took any damage but the screen would sometimes not respond or most of the time just do weird **** when touched...
The 'charging' bit is built into the phone, the charger just supplies a constant voltage up to a maximum rated current. If you use a charger with an insufficient current rating the charge period is extended, like if you plug usb into your pc.
Using a 1A (or higher, makes no difference) rated charger will enable your phone to charge the battery at maximum rate, as long as the usb connector fits you can't go wrong.
Problems will occur if you use a cheap charger, or faulty one where a poor earth can mess with the touch screen. Throw it away and get the older type Samsung (one piece including lead) which are much better quality than the newer three piece ones.

But one thing which I want to point out is, the Nokia Charger which i am using has got no earthing pin at all. It is just a plastic connector given at the place of earth pin. So technically there is no earthing. My samsung charger also did not have earthing pin it has only 2 pins (Indian Connector Style)
So I am not sure if that(Earthing) will be impacting in any way...
Please correct me if I am wrong...

Your capacitive screen relies on your finger changing the minuscule voltages within the screen, the faulty charger (or lead) interferes with these voltages due to poor shielding (the 'earth' of the usb lead). The charger needs no mains earth connection, but the usb connector shield has to have a good connection to the 'zero' point of the electronics inside the charger.
Try another good charger, or lead, and the problem will vanish.
Not to worry at all, you can even charge with the 2A Galaxy Tab charger. Just do not use black market chargers

My wife has a 3 month old Galaxy Mega 6.3 and it will not charge correctly. It will not change when it's on enough to keep it on. Last night I had her charge it while it was off and after 12 hours it was only at 48%. We have tried new chargers, new cords, taking the battery out for a while, nothing is working. Any ideas? It's completely stock, no root.
Hi .. make sure that your chargers output power is 2.0A don't use chargers with 1.0A or 0.7A output or it will charge slowly .. and try to use a short cable ..shorter is faster .. If this didn't help maybe the problem is with the battery it self buy a new one

Yeah, we used an oem charger and cable and a charger that puts out 5v and all the same charge rate
I think 5v is too much & dangerous for the phone maybe it'll ruin your battery

Hi..the original charger for the mega 6.3 is 5v with a 2.0A charging rate, can you test another battery from a friend to see if it is the battery.
I literally have never seen anyone with a mega besides her lol. My next plan was a new battery, but I didn't think a 3 month old phone should need one yet.

Maybe go to your carrier were you got the phone and explain what has happened and maybe they can give you a new battery or if it is a hardware problem..they can maybe give you a new phone.

To be sure to get fast charge with most Samsung smartphones, you need an original Samsung charger AND a fully connected (4 wire) USB cable.
Charger outputs 5.3 to 5.7V and pin 2 and pin 3 (data pins) are shortened together inside the charger to indicate the phone that he can draw fast charge current.
All my original Samsung wall chargers are rated only 1A. It doesn't mean that they can't output more current for a short time. I get fast charge every time.
If either your charger isn't an original with pins 2 & 3 shortened, or your cable has no data connections, you won't ever get fast charge. By example, if you try to use a powerful 2A or more iPad charger with your Mega, you won't get fast charge, just because the other world doesn't conform to USB
If you can, try an original Samsung wall charger with an original Samsung usb to micro usb cable.

I have same problem with my Samsubg Galaxy Mega 6.3
I tried everything (change battery, cable, charger) but nothing help.
Charging is slow but during all night it could charge to almoat 100%
It only could be hardware failure...
If you want to see power of charging install app Galaxy Charging Current Lite.
Power of charging should be 1900 mA and I could get only 300 mA...
current default charger kinda suck, it charge slow and I loss charge while gaming. I tried using a 2.1A charger to no avail, so anyone knows a way to charge faster? I know samsung still stuck on qc 2.0, but I hear of power delivery charger, does it work on S9? or does the cable influence anything?

I use a AC power supply that came with a moto 2z force charger from a Motorola I had prior to this S9. It works really well. As far as I can tell it is Model SC-22 SPN5970A it auto selects and charges at 5v-3A or 9v-1.6A or 12v-1.2A. It switches between voltages, I guess from the demand of the phone battery requirements. I hope this helps. IDK how you go about finding one.

thanks for the suggestion, but my exynos version doesn't support QC3.0. my only hope now is to buy a cheap PD-charger and pray it doesn't become a note 7.
I was given a RavPower 45W type c charger to test and I'm super impressed with it. I did have to did out the C adapter that was packed with the phone since it's a C charger but I believe it will charge just about anything. They claim it's compatible with Ultra-Compact Compatible MacBook, Dell Xps 15 13, iPad Pro, Nintendo Switch, iPhone Xs XR X and a dozen more.. It chargers my phone without the phone overheating and it's just as fast or faster than the orginal charger. It's only about a half inch thick so it fits nicely behind my nightstand. Would I personally buy it? At $55 it's on the steep side but if I wanted to charge anything in the house including my laptop then I guess it would be worth it.
