[Q] Customizable lockscreen? - Android Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I really like my Evo 3d but I wish that I could put more shortcuts on the actual lock screen. On my Htc Hero I had a lockscreen that I could put my silent toggle on there (I just can't remember which lockscreen it was). It was like a semi-circle dial and to access the apps, you'd just click on the app or toggle and "dial" and it would either toggle phone to silent, or open the app. I looked at widgetlocker but that seemed too complicated for what I wanted. Any ideas? I can't put any widgets on this lockscreen, only apps. any ideas anyone?
Thank you.

well widgetlocker is the best choice. also check out simplylockscreen. search for lockscreen replacement on the market and find something that might suit your needs.

Been wanting the same. So far the only thing I have seen is in a couple ROMs the ASOP lockscreen, and I believe some have the four slidders to let you unlock, silent, vibrate, straight to sms, however you want them. If your not rooted I know there's a couple different apps that'll let you use a different lockscreen. Not sure how food they are cus I've never used them but I'm ran across them in my searches.
Sent from my double barrel Shooter. BANG!

not sure if its available for you, but miui has a lot of different lockscreen customizations and customizations to the whole interface in general. make sure its compatible with your phone and im pretty sure root is required. before flashing anything make sure it is compatible!
Alternatively, you could search "lockscreen" in the android market. Good luck!

its possible to add the galaxy s2 lockscreen on a 2.3.4 JVP galaxy S with galaxian without cwm?

Quick settings pull down? - not on SGS2

Hello.
Just ported myself from Desire HD running LeeDroid to SGS2, and I am happy, except one thing...
Why is the pull down menu not present in the SGS2 roms? It is pretty normal in Desire HD roms.
The menu consists of last used apps, and a quick shortcut to settings, wifi, data and more of the settings presently presented in SGS2 drop down... Thought it was a standard feature on Android Gingerbread...
Anyone found a way - har tried to search but have found no answer so far.
That was a feature of the ROM. I had a HD2 before the SGS2 and had no end of different ROMs, some of them being DHD ROMs, so I know what you're talking about. The most recently used apps can be accessed by holding the home button (great for switching between running apps), but quick settings are not there. It's a trade-off with the toggles that are there in the SGS2.
Other than trying different ROMs I can't suggest anything, as I've never seen a Market app that does anything to the notification/pull-down screen.
Hate to say it, but maybe you just need to get used to it being different?
Maybe you are right - or maybe the DEVS at SGS2 have not yet seen ported this part...I hope.
actually there is a toggle tool on market with more feature than standard on SGS2, but I can not remember its name, though I will search for it and post it here if any luck.
I would really like to have advanced pull down notification menu for my SGS2
Maybe this is something for you

There are quite apps in the market that allow you to quickly access different settings: screen settings, sound settings, data settings, etc. just by pulling down the notification bar
Yes I agree but nothing as smart as the ones I am talking about I guess, because I don't have running/ last used apps on SGS2. Instead I have a toggle. So I believe it is a step backwards compared to other devices in this specific matter.

Yeah, guess it's not the same as Desire HD. Maybe there's an app on market that does that too, but there are so many that it's like looking for a needle in the haystack. I tried about 10 apps until i decided to keep the one that i found most useful for me.
You are missing HTC Sence features... If you want your most recent apps, hold down the home button. If you want controls, use the market. Sence is great, I know, but basically the same stuff is here just packaged different. You just need to get used to it... I did.

You can access recently used apps from holding the home button.
Thanks guys, already new about home button but glad you took your time.
I actually stripped sense from every custom ROM but that was the leftover.... Didn't know...
Well hope that someone makes an app to tweak that pull down as I find it pretty useless as it is right now with the sense version in mind.
But I just have to live with it. Everything else it a lot better on the SGS2 so I am still very happy... Rest in peace HTC.
For what it's worth I prefer being able to Toggle settings via the pull-down. I hated the Desire HD for putting apps there, I quite liked the Sense 3.0 ROMs that had the Recent Apps (even though I never used them) but also had a tab at the bottom of the pull-down for settings.

Change Move To Unlock Lockscreen

is there a way to change the move to unlock lockscreen to slide to unlock style?
Only way I've seen (haven't looked much) is Go Launcher with Go lock screen - it has a "slide to unlock" lock theme.
Widgetlocker, you can find it in the market. You can customize your lock screen pretty much any way you want. If you search on xda (I think it is in an android development section) there is a huge thread with Widgetlocker themes you can use to get ideas and different sliders and such.
You can also cook one up in the UOT kitchen

Have you actually done this for the AT&T GS2? Does it work?
Probably, becuase you can upload your own framework-res.apk and SystemUI.apk. Someone who has actually used the kitchen will have to confirm. The kitchen is worth checking out, but seriously get widgetlocker. The iphone slide to unlock theme is one of the defaults.

I tried and it did not work. Some theming worked (icons and stuff), some did not.
Check out Magic Locker, like widget locker, but free.
https://market.android.com/details?id=mobi.lockscreen.magiclocker
There are themes for Android 4 ring, Sense 3, Samsung puzzle lock, iPhone slide, and many many more.
Or come to the CM7 side of the force. It has built in themes for Ring, slide, rotary, lense, etc.

does widgetlocker drain battery? i read frm otoher places that it does and others that it really doesnt.
Edit: installed widget locker. And ive lost 3% in 30 some minutes. Oh well, time to remove.
I've experienced zero drain issues with widget locker. No wakelocks, no excessive CPU usage etc. I lose just under 1% an hour on idle.
Widgetlocker messed up both my and my gf's phones. I think its that wakelock you referred to? It would be fine and then it would go to sleep and not wake up, we'd have to pull the battery just to get it back. Pretty upsetting because we both liked it.
That isn't a wakelock, that is a sleep of death (SOD). A wakelock is where the phone is forced to stay awake by an app or process even though the screen is off and the phone is supposed to be sleeping. A SOD can be caused by a lot of things depending on the phone and what you've done to it.

Couple questions about my new Galaxy S3...

So far I love the phone. This is the only phone I've had in a long time where I haven't wanted to load a custom rom the day I got it. There's just one thing I don't know if there's an option for, and something else I'd like to change that I hope it easy being rooted.
1. Is there a way to make the vibrate patterns apply to text messages? So far they only seem to apply to incoming calls.
2. The little dots on the bottom that show what page I'm on. Can I get rid of those or move them to the top of the screen?
ok, there's a 3rd I guess. The green phone icon, is there an EASY way to change that? Not thrilled about a couple others either like the contacts one. Don't know if there's a simple way to go in and swap out the image file for a different one or not. On my Galaxy tablet I was able to go in and create custom icons on the computer and use a program on the tab to select what program I wanted it to open, but that was a long time ago and I forgot how to do it, or what programs I used. If that's what it comes down too though, guess that's what I'll have to do. Just wanted to know if there was an easier way. I don't mind the icons themselves, just the colors. Not a fan of green or orange. Blue would be nice.
Thanks in advance for any help on these. Besides this stuff, absolutely LOVE the phone...
hope this helps...
1. I don't see any place in the touchwiz messaging app's settings to customize the vibrate pattern for texts... some possible solutions would be a custom ROM with the stock google messaging app rather than the touchwiz app, or somewhat less extreme would be to install a 3rd party texting client from the play store and see if that setting is present in that app.
2. I'm not sure if the touchwiz launcher allows you to hide or remove those little indicator dots, but you can open up a million options for homescreen launcher settings by installing a 3rd party launcher from the play store like Nova Launcher or Apex Launcher. Currently I'm using Apex and it is great (still rocking the stock experience until CM9 gets a stable release).
3. As for changing icons like the phone, calendar, calculator, etc. This is another thing that can be customized using a launcher like Apex.

1. Have heard others complain of this issue, so I don't believe that there a way to do it. Don't use that feature myself so...
2. Again, I'm not sure, but I think you're stuck with them. You could use a launcher that allows more customization. I like apex.
3. Download an app called "icon changer" and a icon pack or theme with the icons you would like to use. You can then open the application and select the app you want to change the icon of and pick a new icon. It will create a shortcut of the app with the custom icon on your home screen. Great for changing icons on your home screen if you want to remain using TW. If you decide to use an alternate launcher like apex this feature is already integrated and you have the ability to switch the icons within the app drawer as well.

Thanks for the quick replies. Trying to stay away from a custom rom on this phone. There's just nothing I'm really unhappy with that much. There's always something that goes wrong when I load one. Not saying there's ANYTHING wrong with the roms themselves, there's just not that much on this phone I'm not happy with, unlike phones I've had in the past. I'm coming from a Desire.
Thanks for the Icon Changer app also. Changing them on my tablet was a pain in the butt, this was nice and simple. Any way you know the dimensions of the icons though so I can create some of my own?

[Q] ICS Lockscreen problems?

I seem to have a little issue with the lockscreen on ICS. I'm currently using the mainly stock, but rooted ICS rom. On the lockscreen, whenever i set it to any security lock other than "Slide," I can no longer see the music player or any notifications from the convenience of the lockscreen. On the Jellybean rom (CM10) I tried there was an option to 'Show Widgets on Lockscreen" which overcame this problem. Now I'm pretty sure Samsung in all their infinite wisdom could not have possibly programmed TouchWiz to do this lockscreen BS. Is there anyway I can set it to a more default ICS lockscreen look, where I can see notifications, and maybe have some shortcuts on the lockscreen?
Forget using that stupid pattern lockscreen. It will protect you about as much as a broken condom in Africa. Seriously there are only 362,880 patterns possible and any crap laptop could bruteforce that small of a number in no time at all. Besides if i steal your phone i don't care about your data, im just going to wipe the device from recovery and sell it. If its a girlfriend you need to keep out then there are ways of hiding everything incriminating using a few choice apps without locking the phone which ALWAYS makes girls suspicious.
But seriously, you either want your device locked or not. No one is going to make a security lockscreen that displays personal info. That's insane.

ex jailbroken iphone user needs help

Hello kind strangers,
Have searched for the last two weeks for answers to my questions/needs/requirements but have come up with zilch.
Would very much appreciate your assistance.
I've rooted my htc m8 and flashed viper on it, I'm very pleased so far with the performance but and it's a big but, there are a few things lacking .
Here's a list of what I've been looking for:
1. Something that allows me to quick compose, quick reply, etc text messages from the lockscreen without me having to switch off my security password /pattern.
I've tried textra and glowfly, but none of these hit the spot.
I've been using Activator on my iPhone for years and am very surprised that Android doesn't have something similar.
Is there somethin like activator that allows you to make your own custom gestures as well as allowing you to change the functions of your hardware buttons?
Viper allows you to limited gestures etc, I want to be able to do gestures etc on my lockscreen, that actually opens apps and does things as opposed to taking me through the unlock process (am I goin too far now?:/)
2. I haven't used tasker yet due to being so new to Android, but have heard great things about it and will be looking into this more.
I'm assuming tasker allows users to swap profiles?
3. Multiwindows: I understand that Omni Rom comes with this function, but I don't want this Rom:/
What would be the best way to multitask without having to flash another rom?
4. What's the best floating app that you guys have used?
5. I really like customising my phone, viper does allow this , but is there another Rom that does this better without me losing sense? I thought I would dislike sense but it's started to grow on me.
6. Lockscreen apps - I've looked at both widgetlocker and dashclock and none of them appeal cause of the lack of security.
Is there somethin g that intergrates with the stock lockscreen, which will display notifications better, allow theming , widgets, as well as help with point 1 (quick compose and quick reply etc)?
I apologise in advance for the noobish questions, but I've spent more than a week searching for the answers and haven't found anything.
Would very much appreciate your input and thank you for taking the time to read this post.
Regards,
Swat Valley

Welcome to android.
Many of your wants and needs can be met by using the mod called the Xposed Framework. This little guy allows "hooks" on to various calls to the system and redirects them to the Xposed Framework and the modules that you add to it. With this enabled you can do everything from stop ads to mod the status bar, lock screen, themes, and so much more. One caveat: This is currently not working with ART runtime, but not likely you are running that anyway on the One yet. It's also already included in your rom.
Notifications from a a Pattern/PIN/Password locked screen:

(yes it says for the GS4, but the module is listed to work with the One as well) http://repo.xposed.info/module/com.labtech.mod

MultiWindow:

Different interpretations of multitasking. There are also tons of different side bar type apps that you can access from swiping from an edge of the screen to activate shortcuts to your favorite apps, contacts, settings, recents, etc. that are accessible from anywhere but the stock lockscreen.

And so on... (my fav is Swipepad, especially after the last update which improved the performance greatly)
Floating apps:
Sorry, don't really use them.
Custom Sense roms:
Not saying Viper is the best, but you won't really find much that will be MORE customizable than a Viper rom. There are a few on the same level though, such as InsertCoin, Renovate, SkyDragon, and RayGlobe currently.
Lockscreen:
You can enable adding widgets (also in Settings > Security) and the AOSP lockscreen (like on a Nexus device) from the Venom Tweaks app as well. I like some lockscreen apps, like WidgetLocker, but at the end of the day, the 3rd party lockscreen replacements are either lacking in functionality(there are some that do have good security options, most do not), use more battery power, and end up lagging because when you wake the phone it might take a sec for the app to turn on as well where typically the stock lockscreen will be instantaneous. As far as Notifications - well, the phone has that option too, under Settings > Security > Notification Settings. Another alternative is some like Metro Notifications https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.nlucas.wp7notificationslite which displays notifications a la Windows Phone style (and iOS) as banners, giving you options to swipe to dismiss or click to launch.
Hope that will get you started on your quest.
