Hello XDA. I'm still pretty new to android system. Coming from iOS, there is alot of new things to learn.
My smartphone is SGS2, and is around 1 month old. I quickly flashed it into Lite'ning rom after a friend recommended it. But little did i know, i would loose the swype that comes pre-installed with SGS2. I tried the guy on XDA distributing Swype apk, which basically worked fine, becides from the fact that i could not add any word to swype dictionary.
Again coming from iOS, swype is something that i've wanted to use for long time. I really want it again. Is there anyway to get it?
Oh last thing, i need the danish version/dictionary. I know there is BETA version available to download. But its without the danish
Many thanks in advance!
I believe you can get swype from beta.swype.com

Basically the only legal way is to put original Swype from your vendor's firmware. I would suggest you go to SGS2 section and ask around if somebody does not have theirs backed up.
Or you could get the version 3 beta, but that one does not include danish.

Swype warns against using their beta if you are using a phone it comes bundled with. However, since you don't have, I would try it anyways.

Has anyone figured out how to use Swype on CM7 and/or why it is such a headache to get it installed ? I have a valid 'licensed' version of the latest Swype Beta .... doesn't work !
I have done a good bit of research today, after 2 days of trying to get it installed using various methods, but still NO GO !
I find that texting by typing, and not Swyping, to be extremely irritating .... HOW DO PEOPLE LIVE W/O SWYPE ?!!
I'm able to use Shapewriter on GingerShed, haven't tried Swype
probably because the fingerprint is the Nexus S's it probably hasnt been tested on it yet. give it a few weeks.
I've read posts on various threads (mostly the highest end devices > EVO,MT4G,etc ... not the lowly lil Eris) ... it seems many people are experiencing Swype installation issues with CM7.
I've read some very interesting solutions and tmk, none of them can be done with an Eris .... I'm sure it'll get sorted out before too long between XDA's & CyMod's teams of geniuses
*As of 2 am EST 2/10 :
IGNORE THIS POST .... due to a silly little overlooked function in CM App settings, a lot of issues were caused & in a simple, single option change, voila !!~problemo solved. All the peeps that were in my position have been liberated ~Thanks !
I don't like Swype. I used to swear by ShapeWriter (definitely better than Swype IMHO), but since September or so I now use Ultra Keyboard. All of these use the "Swype-type" of typing. Ultra Keyboard has SO many features. ShapeWriter has a funky way of changing capitalization for specific letters, which was the main reason I looked for, and found and used Ultra Keyboard.
ShapeWriter isn't made any more because it's suspected the company who made it was bought by someone else. The author's made the apk available freely for a short time before it disappeared off the market. Every once and a while someone asks for a reupload of the apk, so if anyone wants it to try it, let me know and I'll upload it to for you.
Just note that it will never be improved since that was the last version ever, and note the funky way of implementing capitalization in it, and I think it's built-in and user dictionaries aren't as intelligent as Ultra Keyboard's as well.
if your talking about how the dictionary disappears, don't use swype when your sdcard is mounted, and dont move it to your sdcard either, i havent had the problem im talking about since i stopped doing what i said
HM - My Swype issues are resolved as stated above, but I am always excited to try 'recommendations' from well-respected members such as yerself ....
Shoot me a gmail or post it here ? I know you can't post a lot of apk's but it seems that one is dead so .... post away ?!

Here you go, here's ShapeWriter! http://www.multiupload.com/F63JVZE2X9 (1.96MB)
If you try it and the only things you don't like about it are the two things I mentioned, the way of handling changing capitalization of letters, and some pet peeves about the dictionary, then I highly recommend for you to try Ultra Keyboard (don't remember if they have a try before you buy version). It won't disappoint!
Also note that if you try fancier keyboards like these and you find them (especially Ultra Keyboard) ridiculously (nearly unusably) laggy, then it's because your current configuration of your phone in general is laggy, not the keyboard. It runs great on several ROMs including xtrSENSE which I recently went back to from Froyo-based CM ROMs.
So glad that I had no issues installing Swype. I just followed the instuctions right from their website and viola. Don't know how I lived without it for the day that I have.
YES, I too, finally got my own licensed Swype beta to install after much aggravation (I just forgot to post -d'oh) ... but as usual, persistence paid off !
edoR roirraW ... that's not an easy type if yer not used to it ... lol ... I am definitely gonna give SW a fair, un-biased as possible, use ... due in no small part, to your recommendation !!!

Hehehehe...I've been typing roirraW "edor" ehT for 23 years, so it's second nature for me. I wouldn't want to make things easy, would I?
Just as long as you keep my higher recommendation for Ultra Keyboard in mind, too.
Hope you like ShapeWriter. If you don't like it, you won't hurt my feelings.
i just got mine to work. i just had to delete swype and reinstall it with the installer and it worked fine.

I haven't tried CM7 yet. Are you saying that there's a problem with Ultra Keyboard under CM7 so far? I see that it hasn't been updated in a while (since October?). The author's relatively new website says that he got overburdened by the success and support necessary, and is preparing a different approach to handle these things.
Swype works fine for me. A few bugs here and there but nothing I didn't have stock.
Sent from my GSBv1.5-ERIS using XDA App
Installed just fine using the Beta installer...
I see that it now automatically opens the right menu areas for noobs to setup and the skin looks a little better.
And the 2.5MB Spanish/English Only option is GREAT!

Yeah I tried it and got fc'd every time. Hopefully the dev can figure something out with it.
Also, did swype get removed from the market ? I'm running Tazz's GB v6 and can't find swype on the market.

Ah, I see. Thanks for the heads up! That would be yet another deal killer for me, unless I tried any Swype-like keyboards I haven't already tried like "SlideIt", I think it's called, or I felt like going back to ShapeWriter, but I really like Ultra Keyboard way too much. A lot of app-related stuff seems to have gotten broken going to CM7. More than what I was aware happened going from CM5 to CM6.
It's kindof ironic given how stable GB is in so many other areas, like all the important areas of the phone working.
How to get a full version Swype Keyboard for Optimus one?
Go on swype.com and sign up as a beta tester, it's free and quick.

Fine..am going for it..thank you twitch153 ..
Welcome. Let me know how it works out.
-If ignorance is bliss why aren't you smiling?-
Sure...hope it can perform like the full version..
Its working well..if there is any significance difference between this beta and full version of Swype?
No there isn't a significant difference It's just like having a full version.
-If ignorance is bliss why aren't you smiling?-
need some time to practice it to use it well ~
ya it need more to time to get used to..right now its very difficult to handle..

I've kind of grown tired of not having full access to the market recently because my phone isn't supported. I've seen the other threads about tricking the market with a different country code and one other thread about changing some properties. My newbie question is, would any of that change if I went to a newer ROM? I've been running Nero v3 for over a year and have been really happy with the results so far. It has great battery life and it's also been very, very stable for me. Since it is a 2.2 ROM, I've been a little skeptical of changing to a 2.3+ ROM as I'm not entirely sure if I would need to ODIN back to stock and what other steps might be involved. I hope you guys understand my question in newbie terms, and hope to not get flamed in advance!! Have a great day guys....
It depends on what build.prop identifies your phone. It varies upon what the ron developer puts or you could modify yourself.
I think most of the newer GB ICS roms identify as i9000 jvt

You can do a Google search for an application called Market Unlocker. What it does is allow you to pay for and access applications from Android Market or Amazon Appstore from countries where paid apps are not available yet. Or you can find it on the marketplace Here
Hey Guys
It may be a silly question but I was wondering why the official release still looks like gingerbread I mean obviously some parts look like ICS but others dont, why is this ?
This can be fixed with a theme editor I guess but I was just wondering why, when O2 release this to customers will it still look as it does now ?
Yes it will as samsung are so in love with touchwiz that they should marry it.
I use spb shell so will stick to that.
But use any launcher to get the look you want. When Im not using spb use launcher pro as it gives you a wide scope to play with

Hey person from Telford! nice to see another.
This is the way ICS will look on the SGS2. Samsung wouldn't change from this look as it could potentially alienate a lot of their 20million customers.
Hey guys thanks for the answers, so whats the best way to make it look how its ment to is there a hack to get the look or is the best way via a theme ? the reason I ask is because I have come across this guy http://www.samsung-galaxy-s2-android.com/rom-android-403.html
that is the look I want and he seems to have got the look with earlier versions
The way to get the stock look is with a theme like my ICS RED
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1535956
or with a custom ROM.
thats diffrent so if I look for that but im guessing th blue one im after that should do me thanks

Correct me if i'm wrong, but that is AOSP ICS version, so that's the default look of it.. It's not themed
means nothing to me mate so thats the original rom from google or a beta anyway, Im guessing this guy will update this soon then ?
I just want my SGS2 to look like how google inteneded mainly cause its better looking

The problem is that AOSP isn't 100% functional yet.. video recording, MTP and some other things don't work yet and they will remain that way until samsung releases sources or xplodwild finishes his kernel ^^
oooohhhhhh its all starting to make sense now, that makes sense so its just a waiting game really then we can install the google version and its then happy days, so thats what this guy is doing and the CM9 guys
I guess what they do now then is backwards engineer what Samsung has released and work from there
I'm also interested in this. Basically I want a change from always looking at the same menu after a year and i had hoped ics would give it but im hearing it all looks the same cause of touchwizz. So I'm hearing different things, some people say install a theme, others say install a launcher and yet others talk about installing a new rom?
The Ressurection Rom looks quite cool, is it really a bugfree experience? Do i have to reinstall all my programs, downloaded apps and stuff like battlenet authenticator?
Can I install the ressurection rom now or do i need to wait till my phone has ics installed trough kies?
What is the best way to go to get a smooth ICS type experience? Whats the main difference between these things? (sorry im a noob by the way and theres so much information on this site its hard to get a grip on it).
Have a look at the link i put up I think the best thing is to install that rom after its been updated again with the new version of the ics that was just leaked

Nova launcher will give you a stock ics like experience. Worth a try
in the market for free.
Hi guys.
I stil love my streak.
But the newer swype on HTC phones is so much better. What are my options to improve my swyping/typing experience?
I'm scared of custom Roms. I still run the AT&T provided 2.2.
On a side note, the ads (I guess) are causing the forum page to refresh so often that I can't even type the word swype into the search box. Ggrrr...how annoying!
Thank you for keeping this forum alive!
If the custom ROMs have Swype, then they have the version that came with the Streak. To get an updated version requires you to sign up for Swype's beta program. When you do get on board you will be sent the current beta via email to install and provide feedback on.
P.S. No need to fear custom ROMs. But be aware that you may have to install one if the Swype beta does not still function on Froyo.
