I've got a Dell Streak 5 and just bought a Venue for the wife. Awesome phone. I was thinking of getting one for myself, but lovin' the big 'ol Streak.
Anyway, I got an app for the Streak called LEDNotification that will light up the Home LED when you miss a SMS. Is there anything like that for the Venue? Wife is asking if there's a way to enable a light for a missed call/SMS.
Search noLED in market, it is original design for Samsung Galaxy but it work great in my Venue.
I came from the Vibrant, another phone with no LED notification. We used an app called BLN available on the market, which used the backlights on your soft keys as notification lights, but you need a custom kernel to use it. So it may be possible.

Has anyone been able to find a working app that allows us to use the camera's LED Flash as a torch?
I've tried the various ones on the market place but no joy as of yet.
Would anyone care to have a crack at making one? Pleease
I have also been searching for this, I did find motos flashlight...but it didnt work on the streak
nobody got any ideas?
Wow am i missing this.
i live in the country and was always using the LED on my SE X1 as a torch especially in the dark nights it was a god send.
I'm hoping that once the septics ;-) get their Streaks some developers will pop out of the woodwork...hmm I wonder if Fards will have a crack at it?
would love this i couldnt find a led flashlight app that works on this or the htc evo 4g
I thought I'd give this a bump, now that our American cousins are piling in
I'm pretty sure none of the current apps will help us, it will have to be made specifically for the streak. Not sure how to go about making that kind of app, but it can't be too hard... right?
I'll look into it.

The htc evo 4g ver 2.2 comes with a flashlight that uses the camera's led's. Has 3 levels of brightness.
Maybe
I have a week off work and was going to knuckle down and get into some coding - i've never done Java before but I have the SDK and have found the resource documents for using the built in camera, and also the flash module.
I've got it worked out on a very very high level: include the camera library and set the flash to on or off. Beyond that I don't have a clue.
If I am successful, I am going to base this on the application for WM called TorchButton which I have been using on my HD2 for some time. It has on/off, SOS, strobe function.
http://ip208-100-42-21.static.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=581382 for TorchButton thread. I doubt this dev would port this to Android as it's very different code for WM/Android, but if you have a HD2 I would highly recommend that app.
Well, I've found that Droidlight on the market successfully turns on the LEDs... the only problem is that it can't turn them back off, not even taskilling it turns them off, only a reboot- so suffice it to say that usability is limited ;-)

Actually if you take a picture while leds are on they turn off.....its annoying but i guess its a bit more convenient than having to reboot device

There seems to be a lot of confusion regarding the LED control applications for Android and the camera flash light. Although LED's, they are not part of the function of the Android LED manipulator software. These applications just control the frequency and colour of handsets which have the LED notification lights on their front.

I think most people are clear but for newbies that may stumble into this thread I'll break down a description of 'LED' when referenced by apps/users etc.
Screen LED: The screen is an LED panel and some apps in the market place called LED torch are referring to the whole phone screen. They will often place a blanket colour over the entire screen (usually white) and refer to this as a torch.
Notification LED: Some android phones have small coloured LED's inserted in the sides or the top that will flash on receipt of a call or message(The Dell streak DOES NOT have any notification LED's).
Camera LED: This is the LED that sits beside the camera lens on the back of your Dell streak, It's used as a 'flash' when taking a photograph in a dark room.
The above request is for an application that will turn on the Camera LED. So that it can be used as a torch.
The camera LED is very bright and quite effective as a torch (N.B. prolonged use may/damage the LED bulb)

Hi guys,
I've just released Tiny Flashlight v2.2 in the Android Market. This version supports several new devices. Can someone with Dell Streak 2.1 check it and tell me if it works?

Ohh yes. very nice works on my UK 2.1 Streak (rooted)
yes, tested now on streak with official 02 upgrade 2.1 and can confirm you that it works very well!!
good app
I suggest you to add a desktop widget to turn on/off the light
Great news Stay tuned for v2.3 next week
in the new version, in the Led Light mode, the light don't turn off..
maybe this may sound dumb but i havent seen any notification led on my Dell Streak, does it have any?
nope. there is an app that does something of the sorts tho (lights up home led on new sms). needs root. its somewhere in the streak dev (or apps) section

Hi guys,
Got my S2 yesterday after having had HTC for a few years and sony.
I know on the samsungs that there is no LED status light for missed call, text etc but I also know you can get an app to do it.
I have been trying no led but find that its not working very well and very unreliable.
Can anyone offer any alternative suggestions?
Thanks in advance
Have you heard of BLN? I don't think there's support for it on the SII yet. Basically it turns the capacitive touch keys into backlight LEDS. It was a useful feature on my Galaxy S I9000; I came from HTC as well and missed the LED. This works just as good. You need a custom kernel that supports BLN though and as I've said I havent seen any support as yet...
But give it time and I'm sure there will be
I had come accross that one. Hopefully a kernel will come that supports it Thanks for you help
How about this free app from Android Market?
https://market.android.com/details?id=com.led.notify
Thats what im using, but not finding it very good as it keeps changing settings etc
No led works great for me
Me also want a custom kernel who had bln and undervolt included! ... ;-)
No led does work, but I dont find it reliable as it constantly displays the wrong image or even nothing at all
How do I stop it turning the screen off if its already on?
For example, im using handcent. If im reading or writing a txt and another comes through, it switches the screen off to show the dot. can this be changed?
As we all know, the sgs2 doesn't have notification leds. However, we do have leds under the menu and back buttons. I was wondering if anyone knows of any app that takes advantage of this. I want to use the menu and back button led as a notification led. Periodically flashing would be extremely helpful. I know there is NoLed on the market but that isn't the most elegant solution. Perhaps even using camera flash on minimum minimum brightness could be doable.
You need BLN for that. (Back Light Notification)
1- You have to flash BLN compatible kernel for that. For example- Ninphetamine.
2- You need to have liblights.zip installed. You can find it from Jame Bond thread.
3- You need to install BLN Control Pro for that, free version wont work for Missed calls and stock SMS/MMS app.
4- If you want notification for stock SMS/MMS app then you have to install 'Light Flow Lite' from market.
I was recently using it with that kernel, but I don't like that kernel at all.
Besides flashing too many things for just a simple light notification is very kiddish. Got rid of BLN and back to CF. No intention of getting it unless it start supports all kernels.
Regards.
Im running the villainROM 2.4.2 with ninphetamine kernal and XXKG6 installed.downloading the BLN app from the market you get that.

Has anyone noticed the red light that appears at the top of the phone next to the front camera and sensor? I've only really noticed it once the phone has been fully charged.
Perhaps this could be used to indicate a notification, assuming there isn't an app that already uses this light?
Lol, thats the Proximity sensor taking effect dude.
Sent from GT-I9100
Well whatever it is, could it not be used as a notification indicator if it hasn't already been?
Sent from my GT-I9100
No sir, it can only be used in a call when you put your phone near your face/ear it helps to turn off the screen.
Regards.
Wait, so that really is an led light?! I've never seen it go off, it would be sweet to have a red notification led, just like my old Blackberry... BLN works okay for now, though is is NOWHERE as bright as the led on the blackberries.
I started using NoLED, coming from a Desire I was a bit disappointed. I like NoLED but I'm concerned about the impact it has on battery even though I have mine set to 1% brightness and I rather have the standard icons on screen rather than the custom icons to be honest.

Wooaaa.....
why such hassle?
i thought android suppose to be the smarted OS. :-(
back when i was using symbian, light signal plus, a simple app can make softhey LED lit up.
i was hoping theres a widget or app in android that can do the same thing.
rooting or flashing for such small function seems overkill. :-(

Android is the smartest OS but it isn't the simplest one. And as an user, not a dev, I don't like that too.
I also remember about Light Signal Plus when I had 5800XM.

I realize that the SGII does not have the LED Notification and this is a feature I have loved from the Blackberry to the Motorola Atrix. I even tried to switch from ATT to Sprint for the new Touch 4G SGII with Notification LED but Sprint sucks in my area but the screen SOLD ME!!!
Anyway now that ATT will have the SGII I plan to get one I love the screen but how are you getting past no notification LED. I don't want to constantly be powering on the display to make sure I haven't missed an audible notification. Does the SGII offer ab option for a recurring notification sound? Just don't want to walk away from my phone while its charging and miss a message. I have one of those jobs where I am required to respond to emails in 15 minutes....

How to deal with Absence of LED Notification
therapy
Why not use a kernel with BLN. That is what i use as a substitute.
It turns the buttons into notification lights.
Search BLN in this forum, stands for Blacklight Notification. Some Kernels support it. It uses the back and menu button as a blinking indicator
NoLED is another alternative. It works without rooting.
Do note that NoLED will drain your battery like crazy if you don't "confirm" the notification.
The phone will not enter sleep-mode while a notification is going on. For me: rather useless. For somebody else: might just work as expected
I've used both BLN and Noled.
BLN will drain my S2 no matter what. I prefer Noled as it flexible and allows me to configure my notifications to my likings to minimize battery drain.
I use BLN and I'm pretty happy with it. Battery life is still very good, can't even tell if BLN drains that much. Haven't tried NoLED so far so I can't really say anything about it.
I use NoLED. I have noticed on occasion it has drained the battery somewhat, but I usually access the phone long before it becomes an issue. I like the fact that it uses custom icons for different events.
Tons of apps on the market that can play sounds at a certain period, reminding you of missed sms/calls/emails. I'm not a fan of led notifications, i'd rather use sound notifications.
Ninpo's kernel is BLN enabled and can be used with any samsung ROM. Install free version BLN controls app and you are good to go.
