3g speed - XPERIA X10 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I heard that modifying a few lines in build.prop can increase speed, os this true? What lines?
My 3g/H download speed is 22kbps, thats too slow, at first i thought it was my phone but my whole family is on the same carrier with different phones(galaxy,motorolla,iphone,bb bold9000, etc) same speed
I HATE that

Increasing wifi speeds

Hey guys I have my x10 and I want to increase my wifi speed. Can anyone offer any suggestions

You can improve the signal strength of the wifi router by using a parabolic antenna. Simple design google it and happy surfing....
I mean is there a line I can use in the build prop. On wolfbreaks Rom the speeds are unreal. Yet on the stock its so slow

The real wifi speed is more related to baseband, what may be your issue is something related to software processing that is too slow, as far as i know there is not much of a difference regarding wifi signal strength or anything that would affect wifi directly, the only changes are in system response and processing.

[Q] Rooting and hsdpa speed

Hello folks
First time android user upgrading from iphone 3gs - been researching a lot about gs2 and android info in general over the past week since i got the phone.
My question is does rooting the galaxy s2 increase my hsdpa speed? Im mainly concerned about dl speed im getting anywhere from 1mbps to max 3mpbs according to the speed test from various apps/speed test sites. I learned that some carriers (at&t) will cap your hsdpa speeds and by rooting you can obtain true/full hsdpa speed. I also ran across this article that shows a method by making some edits on your phone to increase connection speed and was wondering if it was legit. (pasting some info as i cannot post links yets):
OK Samsung Galaxy S2 owners, lovers here is nice little tweak/hack for you if happen to be on the AT&T 3G/4G network and not satisfied with your data speeds. This comes via uskr an XDA developer forum member who had trouble with the slow performance of the AT&T data networks, so he came up with this tweak. Using this tweak he managed to increase the data speed from 3 to 4 times! Although, your mileage may vary but you can give it a go, if you are experiencing slow 3G/4G speeds
Method 1:
Note that for Method 1 you need to have installed Root Explorer.
1. adb pull /system/build.prop (this is not essential but just required to make a backup copy)
2. Launch Root Explorer on the phone
3. open /system folder and click on "mount r/w" option
4. open the build.prop file on Root Explorer (to edit the file)
5. Add following code to the end of the file:
ro.ril.enable.dtm=1
ro.ril.gprsclass=12
ro.ril.enable.3g.prefix=1
ro.ril.hsdpa.category=28
ro.ril.hsupa.category=9
ro.ril.hsxpa=3
6. Save and quit Root Explorer
7. Reboot your phone and enjoy!
I honestly didn't plan on rooting but if it will help my dl speeds im def planning to do so asap. Any help/feedback would be appreciated!
No, rooting it won't increase data speeds. And given that testing by developers I trust indicates that most of those build.prop values do NOTHING on Samsung devices, I wouldn't bother with them.

Sysctl.conf on ICS?

Do you guys tweak the sysctl.conf at all on ICS? I read somewhere that tweaking the OOM on ics will make it slower. Just trying to get the max speed out of this phone without overclocking.
Thanks
I used to tweak the sysctl.conf to get slightly better speeds out of my 3g connection, but with 4g I don't think much can top those speeds.

[Q] Can changing Roms improve data speed?

I didn't think so but I had been running Mean Rom for months (great rom) and stock before that. On both stock (pre and after rooting) and mean rom I rarely hit 1 mbps, usually was around 500-700 kbps. I switched to deck's CM build yesterday and between yesterday and today I have consistently been hitting between 1.5-2.2 mbps. I know its a small sample size, but it has been at my regular locations, and I did a few tests before switching yesterday morning. What gives? Is this just dumb luck or can different roms actually provide different data speeds?
I have noticed the same thing switching from stock to CM10. I don't have enough knowledge to be sure but I think it has to do with how the ROM uses the radio drivers. Or even how each driver is compiled for the ROM. Then again Stock sense is trash.

Removing the downgraded speed on hotspot

I'm in the USofA using Tmobile as my carrier. When I activate the hotspot on my phone (Note 9) and then connect my non-cellular tablet via the hotspot/wifi, the speed is only like 256kbps (not sure if its KBPS or KbPs or whatever), its just not as fast as the phone is when it's just the phone. The performance is adequate for minor gaming (Hayday) or low res YouTube videos (haven't tried Netflix). Being a new member here and recently learning about custom roms and so forth, it got me thinking the tethering/throttling has got to be a setting of some kind so I thought I'd ask here, Is there a way to disable the throttling of the attached tablet when the phone is acting as a hotspot? :fingers-crossed:
