so for some reason I am unable to get su to work on htc (went official unlock), was able to get CWM installed but can't get su privileges? Wondering if there is a way to do it since for some reason it's not letting me flash it.
--- it randomly worked on my 5th try....
Htc only unlocks gives you security off you still have to root... go into the dev section and their is a guide in their !!
It doesn't give you s-off it unlocks the bootloader and gives you access. I am very surprised he got the recovery installed he would be the first.
Will the unlocked bootloader allow you to downgrade back to 1.40?

I'm in the middle of rooting mine after just now taking the OTA. If the downgrade flash takes, I'm all good.
*EDIT* Downgrade took, next is copying the eng bootloader
works like a charm
Lol what's the manual method? I'm new to all this stuff.

Without the unlocked bootloader all you get it temp root. So, unless you want to do an ADB temp root on your device while running pre-release firmware, you're kinda outta luck on that front. Do you have an issue with unlocking the bootloader we should be aware of?
Ok so now that we can unlock our bootloader through HTC what's next? Does this turn S off? I know I'm going to have to install a recovery still, but does this give me the capability to install superuser? Does anyone have any idea what options I will have once I unlock it through HTC? Any feedback would be appreciated. Thanks

No it does not turn off Ship S-off...And u cant flash a custom recovery either when using HTc unlocker
yes. with S off you can install custom recovery like any PG image
It doesn't take S-off. I have read that TWRP doesnt work and CWM has and hasnt worked.

ditto. i have only had this phone a couple of weeks and a waited a while anticipating the "official" unlock, but i couldn't stand it. i went ahead a did it and i'm glad i did. besides, htc doesn't need to know i'm rooted anyway.
HTC never said it would be S-off only that the bootloader would be unlocked. You still need to find an exploit to gain s-off so a custom recovery can be installed. If you remember the original Evo had an unlocked bootloader but you still needed an exploit like unrevoked's rage against the cage to gain access to s-off and custom recovery. You still have alot of work ahead of you and now you've voided any warranty that isn't hardware related. Also, it says on the HTC's website that once you unlock any future OTA's may brick your phone. You are definitely better off using Revolutionary.io.
so could unrevoked come up with something now that the bootloaders are unlocked with HTC? to root the phone.
If anyone out there knows how to root the 3d after the update plz let me know.

You're going to need to follow this method, which uses HTCs bootloader unlock method. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1225974
Either that, or wait a little bit and see if revolutionary gets updated to work with the new 1.5hboot.
Is there a RUU for the 2.3.3? If so, when all else fails, revert back, root, then flash a ROM based on the 2.3.4.

There is an RUU for 2.3.3, but you can't downgrade if you're unrooted with S-on. It will throw an error at you about 'main version older' or some crap like that, because HTC makes it so you can't downgrade bootloaders (unless you're S off already, then I'm pretty sure you can downgrade)
I'd rather wait for a root method than going with the HTC unlock

If I were you, yes, I would wait for a different root method. I heard Revolutionary is working on a root for the new OTA.
The real question is, whena re they not

You are probably using SuperSu as the superuser app. You can go into settings of that app and select permanent unroot.
You can then lock up you bootloader by opening a command prompt and going to your adb and using fast boot commands you can type fastboot OEM lock you can then proceed to download the latest ruu 2.13 just search the on here for it and run that with your phone still connected to your computer.
If your soff you can just run the ruu or install a stock ROM via recovery.
Multiple ways to do it just depends on a lot of variables like what ROM your on, s-off or s-on, what hboot your on 1.12 or 1.15, if you just want root gone or you also what to dump custom recovery as well and if you want it completely stock like it just came out of the box.
Let us know some more info and someone will help out

It depends how you rooted it.
Its different each way.

Theres no need to undo the superuser app. Any unroot method is going to install the unrooted ROM

True, but still a way to unroot.
If he just wants to unroot that's the quickest way to do it and probably the easiest.

You are right. That's not what most people want when they go to unroot though. H-boot will still be unlocked/S-OFF and the phone will probably still have a custom recovery (depending on root method)
So get back to us OP

I too would like to know about this, fresh out of the box.
In that case, relock bootloader as per the instructions above, and then run the appropriate RUU for your firmware version.

If S-OFF it requires you to run the S-ON tool as well.
Its really a different process for each root method available

You'll need to re-lock the phone and then run the RUU then.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5yS7yy4XVA4
RUU:
http://stockroms.net/file/HTCEvo4GLTE/RUU
For h-boot 1.15 you'll need the 1.22 RUU
You run it from your computer.
I unlocked the phone using rumrunner, and then loaded cwm recovery. I then installed the superuser, and it appears to succeed. Then I checked root with root checker and it said sorry you don't have proper root. I have checked my steps again and again, but am still pretty new to htc.

are you s-off?
what version of SuperSu did you flash? What Rom are you running? The latest SuperSU 1.94? Doesn't work for 4.2.2. If your S-off why and have CWM recovery why not flash a custom rom?
I am trying to do just that. I can't really find any up to date info to help me step by step, so I am piecing together the newest info I can find. I am a little confused right now. Stuck on trying to root. I flashed superuser-3.1.3-arm-signed.zip

Do I need to root to load a custom rom? Is s-off =root on htc? I guess I have deleted everything off the phone and now it is stuck at the white htc screen. I can get to recovery but did not perform any backups. I can get to bootloader and recovery and I guess need to sideload a rom. I haven't had time the last few days to try anything new. Thanks for the input, I need to fix my dna so I can get off of this note 2 I don't like. I don't understand why htc doesn't sell better.... my dna was the **** before I ruined it!
S-off is secure flag removed meaning you can install unsigned firmware (eng hboot) unlocked means you can write to system partition and other secure partitions. Root means you have an app (like supersu) able to have other apps execute admin (root for Linux) commands. If you have cwm installed, just side load a pre rooted Rom from development sections.

Thanks, I will try the sideload. Any ideas where I can find such a rom. Oh wait I think I s-on ed trying to fix it.... will I still be able to fast boot USB and unlock again for s-off? I sure hope so.
