hi. i just got word motorola fubar'ed photon users by flipping the connections so it can't be used with lapdock. well, hopefully i'm here to save the day. i'm copying and pasting my post from atrix forums.
---I was curious if anybody was interested in buying these cables. Both cables would have the corresponding female micro input and the other side would be the corresponding micro male. The reason i ask is if you have a lapdock you are future proofed because motorola likes to make specific accessories for different model phones and likes to charge an excessive premium for these accessories. With these cables you , hopefully, should be able to use lapdock and future lapdocks, if motorola is good on their word, plus you can have your atrix next to your lapdock and be able to use it still. I am thinking maybe used like this you wont need a bluetooth mouse either because you can use screen for the mouse input which is loads better than the touchpad. Micro female cables seem to be hard to come by looking online. I am awaiting an answer from my source to see if these can be had. The minimum order is 1000 of them. I would probably sell these for about $20 shipped in the US if my price is right. Both cables btw. I hope this in right section. Figured it would get the appropiate looks here because it is unique and it is a question. Please post if youre intersted or pm me. If my source comes up good, and there is enough interest i will post back. And yes there would be discount for multiple orders. Dont ask how much. I dont even know how much yet.
Btw, i am getting a lapdock tomorrow to test drive. I am going to measure approximate length needed for this to be useable on right side. I am guessing in the neighborhood of 18-24"/45-60cm. It will be longer than needed if accessorized on the left side of lapdock. I mention this because there will be no custom lengths, colors or whatever. I dont even have any. ----
i also want to add. again. i don't have these cables yet. i'm not 100% sure they'll work. they should. they're just going to have females inputs from an international standard with hdmi/usb. so i don't know what problems there might be. this is just to see if there is interest. i have quotes now btw. if i go through with the purchase, i will probably sell for $15 for one of each and $20 for 2 pair. and notice i said probably. i haven't got shipping quote yet but i don't think it will be outrageous or anything. i'd like to sell these the $20 route btw. quick and easy. if more than 2 are wanted i will have to wait till i get the shipping quote because the cable already cost more $5. if i bought 1000 of each they'd cost me about a buck each but you can thank motorola and atnt for ruining such a great idea and concept and less than 1000 lapdocks being sold to date. haha.
Count me in!
If they work count me in. Hell I'll buy two sets just to sweeten the deal.

they'd be very useful cables to have around in any case

Anybody else? Need about 6 more people.

I haven't ordered yet. Only 6 people interested so far. C'mon people. I know you need some female cables anyways. These can be as extensions from portable batteries or that extra length you need to sit back in your lazy boy instead of the couch.
I voided my warranty.
im game for 2...so 20.00
ok. so now we're up to 7. i'll probably pm interested people tomorrow or tuesday. i thought more people would be interested right away. btw, the lapdock is really nifty. amazon sold out of the $199.99 deal real quick but if it comes back i highly recommend jumping on it. i got 7.5 hours of use on one charge yesterday brightness one notch above halfway and playing ff5 on snes emulator about 4 hours. i'm using it with brightness turned all the way down today.
Test a prototype and if it works we'll talk business. You can count me as a maybe.
for teh DIY'ers

take teh male end of this cable and cut it off, splice it with a regular usb micro cable and there you have it, a super long micro extenstion cable
google says price for that cable is 5 bucks. so its worth a shot. ive not tried this with any other cables so i dont know if it will work in the first place or if this cable will work, but im sure everyone here has a few microusb cables around, and for 5 bucks on this cable then it turns out to be a cheap way to use older accessories
reason why i said you have to chop it up tho is its using usb micro with the edges/corners. ive looked all over trying to find something myself and that is one of teh cheapest microusb females i could find.
Hey does anyone as of yet know if the Atrix Laptop Dock is working with the Photon, with the cable discussed here. I would be willing to help out... I make two way radio cables in my business, some out of ethernet cables... I am too looking for a laptop dock that will work with the photon
Photon works with the lapdock. The cables were for a smoother solution. I emailed monoprice about cables. They emailed me back. I suggest more people email them to show interest in the cables.
I voided my warranty and your mum.
count me in too!
I like the idea of connected in and still seeing the phone. i could always velcro it to the back of the screen.

Email monoprice. The deal I was trying to get with a chinese manufacturer fell through.
I voided my warranty and your mum.
I'm in too.
me likey one too please
Is the offer still going on. If so please count me in also. Just PM with info
Thanks ahead of time
If there was a way to make this into a bar that could fit at the bottom and maybe snug up to the right side so that the photon could be placed upright in the dock and secured in the laptop dock?

I am not quite sure as to the variation of included accessories from carrier to carrier but this is a question to at least the Tilt 2 owners and anyone else who's Touch Pro 2 came with that handy charger which has on one end a small block housinga flip up wall plug and on the other a female USB connection, this came with an USB to mini USB cable. The reason I ask is that after purchasing mine in February the mini end to the cable has completely come apart. It actually started within weeks of getting the phone. When I saw what was happening I wrapped it with some splice tape thinking it would be fine, but nope. The end fell out the other day and I was shocked to find that the small metal end was seated into the decidedly softer plastic plug in no more than maybe 1/32". How is something that is the junction for a lot of force anytime one moves the phone supposed to last with this kind of construction. AT&T says they warranty everything in the box? Nope. They will give you a wall charger that they retail for $29 as opposed to sending you the cable which retails for $10 less. My suspicion is that they are well aware of the fragile nature of this cable and so would rather you have something less likely to need replacement, at least while one is still under warranty. So I was curious if others have experienced this and if so, what did you do? Is there something to replace it with that is built better? OEM or not, I would love to know. I won't even go into what HTC said, but lets just say they are of a split mind on what to do.
I don't understand when you say that part is under a lot of force. I just don't see this with normal use.
Cords in general are not known for being durable, and prone to failure. But I agree that failure after 3 months is ridiculous. I've had mine since October, and it works fine. I also have the original cable for the old Tilt, which is 2-1/2 years old now, and well as the old charger (cord is not detachable). Admittedly, I probably don't use the newer USB cable as much as others, since I have these old accessories, which are still used with my Tilt2.
It sounds like ATT is willing to give you a new charger (with non-detachable cable), but not a new cable? That does seem odd. If you need a new cord, get one from Amazon or similar, it cost about $3.50 shipped.

im in the same boat as OP. Althought his seems to have lasted longer, LOL. Mine started to pull away from the usb b type end after the second week of having the device. Lucky for me i had some electrical tape and as soon as i noticed it i wraped it up good. I also have pleanty of usb to usb b cords laying arround seeing as i own a ps3 also. If you have any you can just use them they fit quite well and work fine.

What I mean by force is imagine that point where the mini usb meets the phone as a lever point. So when the phone moves at all, you go to pick it up you bump it,what have you, that is where all of the stress forces will be at play. Considering that point is just a tiny piece of metal and plastic that is only inset about 1/32" what can you expect. The new versions have been redesigned, si I am sure they know. I am also pretty sure this is why neither HTC nor AT&T will carry them in their warranty department. In fact, AT& T doesn't deal with Tilt 2's at all at their service centers. Funny that HTC passed Apple in sales this quarter but might have forgotten Apples hard learned lesson that they received when it was realized that the iPod's battery could not be replaced. The Phones are great, the accessories they by from someone else ordinarily so they are hit and miss
And yeah 1 L0v3 my HtC, I just learned that any mini USB will do. I thought that the ends were proprietary and so the would be hard to find but the different shape fits afterall which is what I am using now.
I have never used mine. I've used my old Motorola charger from day one.

Yep, that's what I figured you meant. Just doesn't seem like much force to me at all. Sure, cables have a stress point right at the plug, and that is where almost all cables go bad eventually. But if your device is just sitting there, plugged in, I don't see how much stress is being applied to it, even if you bump it.

I empathize with the OP. I have thrown away a number of older cables due to short circuits at that junction. It no so bad, unless it shorts out during a flash... :eek At any rate, I now wiggle them before initiating a flash. I also bought new cables with the HTC connector and no longer use mini usb.
I have a number of 'antique' cables and chargers from my 6800 days and a number of newer ones. All are working just fine.
Unfortunately, my cat chewed off my 40-pin usb charging cable and I'm going nuts atm... so has anyone found anywhere that might sell a cable like this? I looked pretty much all the online places and they're none existence, perhaps if i take it to local phone shops, will they be able to solder it up?

To be honest i do not think they sell those separately yet
My first guess is to call Asus directly, and tell them what happened and they might send you a new one or let you buy one over the phone if you feel comfortable doing that
Or even contact them on Facebook they actually monitor that very well
As for the cable splice, i am not sure of any phone shops that would do that, at least in my area, maybe a electronics repair shop would be better, probably charge you an arm and a leg though
If i had bought a dock with my transformer, i would send you my extra cable

No extra cable with the dock...unless I got shorted one.
So I spent over an hour talking on the phone with them this morning, apparently, they don't even have a part number for the cable, I even had to convince them that this doesn't sell in the local shops first. Now they're saying there'll be a "special" team which will contact me within 24 hours to solve the problem. Sigh...I knew asus support sucks and was hoping the product to last long without needing support but...

It does seem vary by product, hopefully they'll contact me soon.

Don't tell them your cat chewed it. You're better off saying it's defective and the store won't take it back and demand a replacement. When they get yours back they'll charge you for the cat-chewed cable and everyones happy.
Telling them it was your fault will not get anything done quickly, because they don't have to give you a new one. Try it the other way around and at least you can get a working cable and they'll charge the money it would have cost to sell it to you.
Hope it all works out.

My bad, i thought the dock came with a cable because that would be the most obvious thing to include , guess i was wrong lol
I called again later and on the third time was able to get a RMA for it, sent it to the service center right afterwards so hopefully I can get a phone call sometimes next week about the payment. But from what they said, it seems like they don't have these things on stock for replacement, kinda sucks since I'll be out of country in a week and half.
I've never repaired a cable before, so I haven't a clue what I'm talking about, but if the wires inside of the cable are color coded, I bet with a pair of wire strippers and a little solder and electrical tape, you might be able to do the job yourself.

I peaked through the opening of the cable, the wires were extremely small where I could not see the inner metal wires within the cables and they seem like un-strippable (so thin that I'm afraid to break it with typical wire stripper), also there're metal wires on the outside wrapping the inner cables which are also damaged. Just gonna give up and let them send me a new one.
ASUS suggested website
BTW, one of the reps were telling me to go to this website and check if they have the cables in stock http://www.asusparts.eu/index.php
I think this will be the first place to have them if any charging/replacement kits would be available. However, currently there're nothing related to the TF.

I found out that they listed them over last weekend, also sent them an email asking when the cables will be available.
They replied:
transformer is now delayed to mid-June.
Sorry to have to give you the bad news...
But im not sure if they're talking about the tablet or cables, gonna ask them again and see what they reply.
Sorry you are having to cope with the problem. It's got to be very frustrating. I'm waiting for my TF to arrive from Amazon. It will be at least a month from order to delivery, but that's got to be less frustrating than having it in your hands, and not being able to use it.
I'm sure the USB connection for charging uses only 3 or 4 wires, so it might be relatively easy to temporarily wire it, but at best, it would be highly vulnerable to breakage. I think you made the right choice to RMA it back and get a new one.
I have a quick question for anyone that already has a charging cable. Approximately how long is it? I looked at the picture in the link, with it wrapped up, but it doesn't look very long. Anything less than 6' will be less than perfect for me, although I could use a USB extension cable if necessary.

Find a universal USB charger for an iPad. It should charge the TF while powered off, or at least with the screen off. It will take longer to charge, of course, but it should do the job.
Does anyone know where I can find a micro USB cable replacement that is compatible with Samsung's drivers?
My original cable crapped out, so I bought a Gigaware to replace it; phone charges fine.
However, know matter which drivers I try (or cpu), I can no longer get a cpu to recognize my phone.
And I of course need this functionality in order to use Odin (yay!).
T-mobile does not sell the original cable.
Any ideas or advice?
Thanks!
Idk but I do know LG does not work I've tried 3 different ones so far. No joy. So avoid those. Its not much but I hope it helped.

only $1 here with waaaay much better reviews than the one you posted.
I'd personally think that the RIM brand is better quality build, though I could be wrong, and as far as reviews go, the cable I bought was nice and sturdy and can take quite a beating and works just fine :-/ To each his own!
Went with the cable from monoprice because shipping was MUCH cheaper.
Will post results on receipt.
On a recent stopover in Hong Kong, I bought several cheapie cables. These ended up being neither cheap, nor functional. They cost $2-3 each. And were only good for providing power to the phone.
At home, I have several cables from various devices (e.g. Logitech Harmony remotes, Blackberry, Motorola ...). All of these cables work just fine.
So the moral of the story is to stay away from cheapie no-name brand cables.

These cheap no brand cables are rare and useful. Try charging with them. Many of them charge 2X as fast as a normal cable, as the device recognizes the charging as 'AC' instead of 'USB'

+1 for monoprice
I picked up a 3ft and 6ft lengths in black and "splurged" the extra few cents to get ferrite cores and the thicker gage power wiring (28/24 vs. 28/28 as they list it).
In comparison to the Samsung OEM cable, they have "chunkier" heads with harder and thicker plastic. They don't interfere with the phone housings in any way and are much more cat-proof. My cat made swiss cheese out of the ends of one of my Samsung cables.
The thicker gage wiring option is nice if you anticipate cable abuse (stepping on it, pinching the cable in doorways, etc) - great for vehicles and small kids. The thicker wiring does however results in a notably stiffer cable, so I can't easily wrap one tightly around my palm, for example.
For the prices they charge you could easily get many for the "price of one" in a brick and mortar store, so if you're one to deliberate to excess you could just order a few different options knowing you'll get something to your liking .
FYI - the best cable for Samsung phones and drivers are the blackberry ones IMHO there chunky on the tip and the wire is thicker than SAMMY's good luck everyone

Well, I'm thinking about just buying a micro usb to usb B cable converter.
Then, just go to any thrift store and buy a USB B cable that would come with a printer. Those things are everywhere and cheap. Unfortunately I've only seen the converter online, and it sells for 7USD.
so i'm looking into buying another usb wire, being that i have my main wall charger+wire plugged into the wall next to my bed where it charges while i sleep. but my computer is somewhat under my desk and a hassle to get to all the time, so was wanting to have one always plugged into both for less swapping around all the time and also being able to charge while im at the computer if i'm getting a little low.
the only thing i could find that might be right is
http://www.amazon.com/Original-HTC-Wildfire-Supersonic-Incredible/dp/B004T0GHOU/ref=pd_sim_e_3
but i don't see the 3d as part of the compatible devices. more than likely i'm sure it uses the same wire as these phones but i thought i'd ask here and be better safe than sorry.
also, would this wire be exactly the same as the official one? it's kinda cheap, would rather spend a few more bucks to guarantee that i'm getting an official one because ive heard a few stories of bad wires causing grounding issues and botched data syncs and whatnot.
any input is greatly appreciated, thanks in advance.
I got a charger and cable for 2.80. Search micro usb and you will have much better results.
Can s-off come out and play? You run but you can't hide
anyone else have any specific experience buying an official htc micro usb wire?

Or I can sell you a brand new set for $15.
This is your chance to get a BETTER USB CABLE so do it. The cables sold by BB and Motorola are better quality and much less likely to kink, etc.
FWIW I've been using a few 6 foot cables from Monoprice with no issues. I used them to charge my old busted Palm Pre, and continue to use them on my 4G and now my 3D. My wife also uses them to charge her Shift... The cables are well over 2 years old and have yet to let me down
I duno if the Evo3D has redesigned cable, but there was report the OG EVO HTC cable have a tendency to short out and may melt/burn
http://www.goodandevo.net/2011/04/h...amage-your-computer-burn-your-house-down.html
There is no reason to pay for an "official" cable. You can get better quality cables for less. Monoprice.com is the perfect example of cheap high quality cables. The main thing you need to worry about is the AC adapter not the cable.
I've ordered the cables with ferrite cores off of Monoprice. In each one, the prongs that hold the cable to the phone will eventually sink in and the cable will no longer stick. Monoprice was really good about the issue and gave me a refund (and i didn't even have to return them). The blackberry ones on Amazon have been really good.
I really like the right angle micro USB cables from ezeStand dot com. They are cheap, durable, and work perfectly. I just ordered the bigger stand (old one only works in portrait) and a few extra cables. Going to sugru one of the cables right to the stand to turn it into a one step nighttime dock.
The one that came with my evo 4g is a piece of junk, dosent make a solid connection, i would go to monoprice like mentioned and get some of the 6 foots there and call it a day.
I too will highly recommend monoprice.com
Though one caveat; do NOT use the 10' microUSB cable. Due to the voltages being so low (4.7 if memory serves) the 10' is too long for the full amount of it to go through the long cable. It ends up being like 3.8 (I honestly am pulling this from thin air as I don't feel like looking up the thread even though I have posted in it) and it takes either a long time to charge or as in my case; would not charge while I was using 4G or Wifi.
The 3' cable is PERFECT for a laptop user who has limited space or wants to tether; I have owned them since micro USB was found on my first phone and both of them have been through commercial and industrial settings as well being thrown in a backpack countless times.
The 6' cable is ideal for desktops or as an extra charging cable if purchased with the AC to USB adapters (the white ones work perfect) and have also been using those for at least a year.
Being the type of geek I am, I am VERY anal about the quality of anything technological I purchase because I want the best that is available to me. I am 100% sure there are others just like me here. There is not a single bad thing I can say about monoprice.com , the quality of their cables, their customer service, or their prices.
Yes, some items do cost more than I think they should but I would imagine it is because of the amount of man-hours put into researching what will and will not work. I can always find items that monoprice does not carry (MHL adapters currently) but if enough people send them emails asking for it, they will add it to their stock.
Literally just got in the mail the Motorola 89501n Photon 4G HD Station. It's legit so far...no scratches, brand new. Found it on Incredicell for $29.95. Testing it now. Will post pics if you want.
i see they have an extended battery with back too. wonder if its any good
Wow! Good eye. If you have time, I would love to test some USB devices on that. namely, I wanted to see if standard USB controllers would work with it. If you have an Xbox controller, try that. If not, you can pick up a USB controller from Radio Shack just to test, and then return it for a full refund.
I know it's asking a lot, but it's one of the things holding me back from buying this.

I work next to a Radio Shack in the mall and I know the manager, I'll ask to try it out in store lol.
Here is a picture of the dock. yea, i know my TV stand is dusty. the dock works, but i messed up my webtop installation so i'm working on getting that up lol. it mirrors fine.
30 bucks? That's honestly it? Lol, I feel ripped off now. Sprint charged me 70 for mine. I'm not sure about xbox controllers working but I know usb mice do. (Played Quake with usb keyboard and mouse)

PC USB controller works. i didn't have time to try an xbox controller.
nice. think ill pick that one up today. thanks for the info
That's a great price. I think I'll pick one up for my Dad.
i noticed that deal yesterday. i did the google shopper search for the dock lol. i just cant see myself paying $100 for a piece of plastic that just holds my phone and extends my usb options. 30 is a lot more reasonable. i was hoping to find someone who actually bought it and tested it before i did. i have never heard of that site before and was a little unsure about sending them my money...
*in short. thanks for posting this info!
Wow great! Thanks! I'm going to buy one and try it out!

Dude that's awesome! I have one on the way now. Thanks for being the guinea pig for all of us.
Do you know if you have to remove the "webtop over HDMI" hack for this dock to work?
Beware - Only Sent Wall Charger
Buyer Beware. I ordered one of these and only the wall charger arrived in a bubble envelope. They charge 9.99 for shipping and sent it in a $2.48 cent envelope.

did you contact them? If so what was their response?
Yes I did - Still Waiting
Yes, I contacted them via email on their website and called the phone number. I got a recording of some dude talking about he is busy. The website ask to wait forty eight hours for a representative. If I don't here back from them I'm going to charge the sale back.
The name on the envelope saids MyTechSolution. But his voice mail saids something else. Thats three different names so far.
Hopefully this is a mistake they can straighten out. All seems rather un-professional at this point. I have seen this before. They have about thousand items, which is enough for people to get their item and then spread the word via forum. They soon take in orders for 10,000 and run off with the money. In this case the wall charger creates a tracking number and buys more time.
I ordered both the hd dock and the car dock on 2/1 and received them both on 2/7. No problems. Genuine Motorola. Both work as expected. I do prefer the car dock over the hd dock and i think the remote is a joke

cuejunky,
Did your car dock come with the special cable that combines USB and Audio connectors?
No. Just the dock

Got an Email Response
Updating failed shipment:
Their representative emailed me apologizing and said they would send the dock out right away and that I can keep the wall charger, even though the right item will include a wall charger.
Wish me luck.
