I didn't find anyones questions regarding the best rom for reception and battery life. I find that my phone goes into roaming mode a lot, and I was wondering if there are some roms that would replace the modem in my phone and a rom that would increase the battery life.
thank you.
Either your in an area where your service sucks or its possible you have a faulty phone. I've read complaints about some phones have horrible reception. ROMs wont improve your signal and data.
As far as battery, everyone seems to find their own method on what works best for them. Most of the roms are cooked with battery consumption in mind. Using set cpu to underclock while the screen is off is the most popular user method. Some roms have clocking settings already set to the devs liking. Youll just have to read through the development forum to find what roms have the features your looking for.
Also having low to no signal and roaming is probably the main reason your battery is draining fast.
oh I will check out some ROMs. My phone lasts about 8 hours with moderate use. I wish it lasted at least 12 hours.

When i was using 2G the battery life was good for a whole day. How i have switched my connection to 3G, the main problem is the battery life as it drains in a half day. How can i control this ? which application is draining my battery life? what are the other systems that can save the battery life and extend it to a day time when using 3G????

There are several threads for this topic.
Why don't you post your question there?
Maybe there is already a good answer for you?!
My recommendation is to calibrate your battery (e.g with BatteryCalibration app from the Market) and un-install all apps you do not need.
Maybe a Task Killer app (I am using Advanced Task Killer from the Market) can help you to eliminate some battery draining background apps.
If that does not help in your case, you can check if your mobile provider supports fast dormancy. If not, you can try to disable fast dormancy in the settings menu appearing after dialing *#*#9900#*#*.
What ROM, kernel and modem is your phone running on?
There are some versions which are better for battery life.

When I use 3G it drains my battery a lot quicker but that's dependent on a lot of things so it's hard to pinpoint what is wrong.
3G is not as widely used as 2G, well in London anyway, and it'll use up lots of battery trying to get a good signal.
3G uses way more battery than 2G or Edge in general use.
I suggest only using 3G when you need to and don't bother with task killers - they use more battery than they save. I use an extended controls widget to switch between 2G and 3G, and also use Tasker to turn on my data every hour for 5 minutes.
As the poster above me suggests - root your phone, install a custom ROM and a kernel such as Speedmod and try a few modems.
I easily last a day or two now with moderate use so search the development sections on xda to find one that suits you.
Hope that helps.
Find the app Betterbatterystats in market or here on XDA and have a look at the partial wakelocks statistics. They show the apps that keep your phone awake. Try to find better settings for the apps with the highest count.

Had downloaded and installed and extended controller for 3G, let me see how it works...
Also is it good to root the device rather than having the factory settings????

Its good root the device if you want to try custom ROMs and kernels. Some are highly optimized for better battery life.
If you do root give VillainROM a go. It looks exactly like stock, is very stable, offers good battery life and has a few themes available for it. I've been running it for a while with speedmod kernel and I'm very happy.

Tried practically every rom under the sun, now back to stock 2.3.5 rom with speedmod kernel, seems the best for battery life, no need to calibrate batteries, this is a myth, simple use for a few days, and all will be well, stay stock, root then try out kernels is my advice.
Oh yes you can do the fast dormancy thing, not that it makes a lot of difference
Calibration of the battery does indeed help. My battery lasted for only 12 hours (100% batterydrain in 12 hours!). This went on for 3 days. I then calibrated the battery through clockwork recovery, without changing anything on the phone. Afterwards I was back to my usual couple of days of batterytime.
I'm currently using CheckRom RevolutionHD, Hardcore Speedmod Kernel k2-12, fast dormancy off and I'm getting quite good results regarding battery life and performance (lost about 1 percent in 8 hours on standby; WIFI always on).
I only calibrate my battery, when I switch to a new romupdate.
Disable fast dormancy could be a bit helpful, if your carrier doesn't support it.
What do you think the best ROM for battery life is? I've tried checkROM and wasn't too happy with it, due to the fact that the battery drained a lot while playing music - which is one of the main features I use on my Sgs2. Next I moved onto VillainROM, it just wasn't to my liking, as of now I'm on the beautiful HyperDroid-Androidmedia VXD and I'm loving it, I've noticed a fair amount of difference in battery life, 5hrs display time along with a lot of wifi, games, eveything, so I'm pretty chuffed.
I'm going to check out MIUI - but how's the battery on it? I've also heard that it isnt very stable...? If not I'll just stick to Hyperdroid .
Thank you!
I think <insert name of ROM here> is the best for battery life.
Allow the next 10 posters to fill in the gap with several different answers.
I have been able to get out around 36hrs from Gingermod v0.7. the key reason behind this was that i used to switch on data or wi-fi only when i was using it and not all the time. This drastically reduced my battery drain. For eg. i lost only 1% battery during the 8 hrs i was sleeping.

I'm using Seraphim and I'm happy with the battery life. It seems to be worse than the GB ROM but I can get about 2% down every hour when the phone is idle.
I am thinking of trying different ROMs and battery life is very important to me. Which ROM will give the phone a better battery life based on your experience?
Thanks.

ah ok, im in search of a good ics battery friendly rom as well, actually downloading dag's ics "hybrid" rt now. i'll give it a go for the next couple days and post back. i was seeing about the same as you for seraphim.
In my experience, unless there's a bug, a ROM has little effect on battery life. Android is going to use a certain amount of power to run itself, and there is little that a dev can cook into a ROM to change this. Beyond the system, battery usage is from the screen, apps, and radios. If you are in an area with poor reception, and have lots of apps and widgets that frequently update in the background, this will decrease battery life.
I've used both DaGr8's Alpha II and Seraphim, and my battery drains less than 1% per hour when idling.
Guys a Search would have told you that Battery life is 99% on the user and has almost nothing to do with the rom. We could be running the exact same rom and get very different battery lifes due to the apps we use and how we have the device set up.
In the end there is not best rom. Only what works best for you.

Hey guys the reason im making this is because i have seen on other forums and even on this that alot and alot of people ask for which rom has the best battery life. So in solution i am making this poll so that people can just look at it and not have to create a thread on what rom has the best battery life and clutter up the general.
SO here are the roms
I will update when new roms come
*snapshots would help
*other roms comment
*choose 1 rom only
*why and how much would help to
Best battery life for me has been Saurom GB. 13 hours on battery, 6 hours of screen time.
On ICS, I've gotten 8 hours on battery, 5 hours screen time while on Noteworthy Beta 2. Still have some tweaking to do on ICS, I had a couple apps set to refresh every 10 minutes, so it killed my battery faster.

Speedrom gave me barely 3 hrs of battery life that was with WiFi Bluetooth sync and GPS disabled auto brightness set and I haven't done any gaming cuz I figured whats the point if my battery dies that quickly just reading these forums I doubt I could play for an hr so what ROM has the best battery life?

I'm afraid there is no shortcut here. You are going to have to do your own research and flash the ones you think might work out and see for yourself.
With all of the different ROMs, kernels, mods, and settings, there is literally zero way to tell you which singular ROM has the best anything. For that reason these types of threads are generally closed (like this one, for instance).
The more you try to get out of this site by actually reading and doing and reading and doing the more capable you will become of solving your own issues and even helping to solve others'.
Thanks for understanding
