[Q] Download Mode help - Vibrant Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I went in Odin from my stock Vibrant because I had lost my root. I tried to start over and tried to revert it back to stock, which lead to me getting the BSOD. I figured out how to get back into download mode, but I'm stuck in Odin now.
I'm in the stock rom...so I don't want to try and put that back into Odin. I just want to get back to having a stock phone so I can try and upgrade to 2.3.
So, I'm kind of in a situation where I don't know what exactly I need to do to get my phone back to working. I'm sorry if there's another topic like this but I couldn't find one, so I apologize in advanced if I totally missed it.

Read that.
And at first I thought your phone had a BSOD

[Q] super bricked??? tried everything (that i know of)

okay i'll preface this by saying i read all the way through the Vibrick thread and any others i could find on this subject.
i was running NeroV3, decided to try CM7. made a dumb move (apparently?) by restoring back to my stock 2.2 backup via CWM, then flashing to CM7 and THEN trying to flash the Overstock kernel (these steps should be reversed?). i wiped the cache and dalvik cache, but then the kernel flash failed ("installation aborted"), so i rebooted, which went fine. i used ROM Manager to get back to recovery, tried flashing the kernel again, failed again, hit reboot, and then my phone got stuck on the Vibrant screen.
I tried every 3-button combo (also with battery pulls) to get to Download mode but nothing works. when i plug in the USB the spinny-working-hourglass thing pops up but freezes, the green charging bar does not come up, and it does not go to download mode.
when not plugged in, it just keeps returning to the Vibrant screen. i can't even get it to turn off without pulling the battery. i'm definitely not comfortable trying the solder method.
any help is appreciated - i'm not giving it long til i take it to t-mobile and play dumb, worst comes to worst i'll just get a cheapo replacement from the store and find another vibrant (or similar) used on craigslist.
thanks!
UPDATE:::
got the phone into download mode thanks to a thread by Dolphinwigs. had to do have odin open when replacing the battery/holding volume up/down.
waiting on the stock rom download now (internet is slow). hopefully all goes well from here...
The biggest issue I find is that people give up on ODIN to easily. Getting into download mode is not that hard but also not that easy eiither. This is why everyone should purchase a jig, never give up on ODIN try it a thousand times and then once more. Always have ODIN up and ready with the proper files on hand, and as soon as it connects to ODIN be ready to make shyt happen.
In your case an ODIN flash should get you where you need to be and after you root again flashing to CM7 should not be an issue. Keep in mind if you use the .tar in ODIN as well as the .pit you will lose everything on both internal/exteral SD. At this point unless you made a backup prior to your issue its really a lost cost.
Good luck!
i am now back up and running, i just didn't realize i needed Odin running when i tried to go to download mode. so simple, but so frustrating.
one thing though, the ROM i got is Eclair. do i need to update to FroYo before flashing CM7?
and also, so i do it right this time, do i flash the Overstock kernel BEFORE i flash CM7? or does it matter?

[Q] Did ODIN brick my phone?

Hey All,
I've been looking for an answer for over a day now, but can't seem to find anything about my specific problem. Here's what happened:
I had flashed to ICS 4.0.3 on my Samsung Vibrant about a month ago and everything was working great until yesterday when I woke up to find the "Encryption Unsuccessful" screen on my phone. I did a little research to find out that there is a fix to this and to NOT reset the phone. So, I took the steps to ODIN the phone back to Stock Eclair in hopes that starting from the beginning again would be easiest way to fix the problem. The ODIN process finished completely fine (PASSED), but now when it reboots, I only get to the first "Vibrant" screen, then it shows the battery and spinning circle icon. Apparently it won't fully reboot. I've tried to ODIN it back to stock several times, and I keep getting the same results. I can get it into download mode and plugged into my computer, but that's about it.
From the posts I've read, it sounds like my phone might still be okay to recover since it does power up, but I can't seem to find a solution to get it fully back up and running.
Any help/recommendations would be greatly appreciated!
Thanks in advance!
Maybe your JFD file is corruption. Check with your MD5 sum if there any error or mismatch.. Just give you an idea.BTW what Odin are u using. I recommend Odin 1.7 I stay away the older Odin or the newer Odin
You are screwed.
Sorry to tell you this but i had the exact same problem and found no solution whatsoever to fix the phone. I finally gave up and bought a Galaxy Nexus. You can try flashing Eugene's Unbrickable Froyo Rom which is flashable through odin as a .tar package along with the pit file. You might be able to fix it but i highly doubt it. I flashed Eugene's rom and got the same results as you described. By any chance did you click "Reset Phone" when the "Encryption Unsuccessful" showed up? If so well yeah your phone is pretty much paperweight as of now...until someone finds a solution. Like you i am also able to access download mode. So i guess there may be a way to fix your phone. Not saying it's impossible...hopefully someone finds a solution soon.
Here is the link to Euguene's rom: http://eb-productions.proboards.com/index.cgi?board=samsungsgs&action=display&thread=8
Good luck.
OP, what ROM were you running (specifically. Not just ICS 4.0.3-what is the name of the ROM)? Also what kernel?
Since you are not the only one this happened to, I would like to know the above and see if it correlates to the others that this happened to in the Vibrant section. I'll post the same in their threads too.
Check here out for a possible solution/workaround.
Replacement Vibrant Coming
Thanks for your recommendations/help guys.
I decided to go to T-Mobile and complain and they are sending me a replacement phone. Apparently it's still under warranty, so it won't cost me anything, and if my data is lost, then so be it...at least all my contacts will still be in tact through my Google account.
Merio - I did NOT hit the Reset Button when I saw the Encryption Unsuccessful screen. Before doing anything I did a little research and I found a forum here on xda that said to not hit that button, and tried to explain a way to fix it using the Heimdall One-Click. Basically it sounded like I'd be flashing back to a Gingerbread ROM. So, instead I just went ahead and tried to flash back to stock Eclair. The results of that were obviously not good.
Woodrube - I was running the Passion 13 ROM (ICS 4.0.3). Was really enjoying it until I got the Encryption "Screen of Death"
I don't know what Kernel it was, actually, I don't really know what a Kernel is...
Thanks again guys. Hopefully I'll be up and running on my replacement phone soon!

[Q] Problem downloading app.

Hello, I rooted my phone and it bricked so I found a stock rom and now after I did that I tried to go to the app market and every time I try to update packages It says can't install please try again and I get the same error if I download the .apk and try to do it that way, my services were turned off and I can't update versions I don't even know what version i'm running, any ideas on how I can fix this problem?
I would first try re flashing gapps. Then maybe a gapps fixer. If all else fails go to odin town and revert back to stock gingerbread
Okay well I tried to use odin to go back to stock but I could never figure it out, This may make me look stupid but 1) how do I flash gapps and if that works how can I revert back to stock android, I just dont want to ruin my android..
Being that i'm not sure of what you have on your phone (and even if you have a fascinate) I would just say odin to stock. There are various guides floating around. Try this http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1212239. Just do step 2 but with this file http://dl.dropbox.com/u/38436349/CI500_VZW_EH03_GB_CM.tar.md5. That's stock EH03 (gingerbread)
Notes for Odin:
Always use PDA section
Never ever ever ever ever, no matter who tells you, even if Jesus himself tells you, click phone EFS clear on. That will kill your data and you have to call Verizon to fix it or switch your data plan to another smart pone and then back to your fascinate.
Good luck

Guys I REALLY need help please...

I got my phone out of brick and reflashed JFD through Odin, but it won't boot the phone the Vibrant screen continues on a contious boot loop, I remembered I falshed a Gingerbread bootloader, anyone have a link to the modified JFD so this would work
I hope this helps
Look im new at this but i have soft bricked my phone many times, i think im almost an expert at getting my phone back on line any time i install something wrong. If your having trouble why dont you take the phone back to stock and start over if you need the files i have them they work with Odin real nice.

Loaded Miui and now stuck...

Ok, I loaded miui and didnt like it too too much, so I wanted to go back to anything else. Can not flash anything, so Odin back to stock... which put me into the att screen, and stuck... doesnt move. I think miui may have changed bootloaders, it use to on my old infuse. What in the world do I do? Most of the odin files links are dead. I need something that will write over EVERYTHING and get it back to where I need to stock to get it going agian.
Thanks.
getting this file and flashing in the pda section of odin did the trick. http://server11.stockroms.net/download/GalaxyNote/SGH-i717/attstockrom.zip
