How do I uninstall the CWM from the rom manager app? - Atrix 4G Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I downloaded the CWM recovery from the rom manager app. But then I heard that flashing fastboot recovery file "en-goapk-0630-1029.img is better for flashing roams. But how to I tell which version do I have, v4.0.0.2 is the version i have. And how do I delete the rom manager CWM, I already checked in the /system/etc and didn't find the install_ recovery.sh

Install recovery.sh is for stock recovery. Look in the dev section and READ everything in romracers recovery for unlocked phones thread.
That's the cwm that you want

Sorry if this is a bit off topic, but I have a similar question. How do I remove CWM from the bootloader? Currently the BL is unlocked and I have en-goapk-0630-1029.img installed on the recovery partition. I want to completely return the bootloader to stock (Remove the "Android Recovery" Option). Will someone point me toward a stock recovery image?

[Q] Recovery questions, ClockworkMod

Hello, I had some general questions about the recoveries and how they work.
I have recently unlocked my bootloader and did the "recoveryinstallerfornoobs" process and then flashed the superuser zip file to gain root, which all worked, which is great.
So just for my understanding I had some questions:
-I guess I got some after market recovery program from the install process I did above?
-Can you only have 1 recovery program on your phone at a time
-I see in the app market there is a clockwork mod app there called "rom manager", is the same recovery app that some of this programs like Xboarder and such offer you the ability to flash (e.g. flash ClockworkMod 5.0.2.7) or is it different? With the app in the market place you can can make back ups of your current ROM but it is also the recovery app?
-The recovery app if my understanding is right is the app you boot into when you want to flash a new rom, wipe data, dalvik cache, battery stats, factory reset ...?
-Once you have root access why would you use a program to flash the clockwork recovery vs just installing it via the marketplace if they are the same?
-I just powered up in bootloader mode and then booted into recovery and notice that it says cwm based recovery v5.0.2.7 so I think I have the newest version from CWM, even newer than what is available in the market?
-I see and "X" watermarked in the back though so i believe this is "xboarder" I am surprised to see that if this app is from CWM
-How do I update this recovery in the future?
-I also don't see the app in my list of apps for ROM manager so I am starting to think the recovery and the clockwork app in the market place are different and do different things
Sorry for the long email and nood questions, however, any answers anyone can provide would be greatly appreciated.

I got a headache reading so many questions. Felt like I was taking a final lol.
Long story short.
ROM Manager - Lets you make a backup on the entire phone. Allows you to flash ROMS.
CWM - The actual recovery. ROM Manager will go into CWM to flash the ROM or create a Nandroid backup.
Backing up Apps - I recommend using MyBackupPro.
"flash a new rom, wipe data, dalvik cache, battery stats, factory reset" - That's all done in CWM.
If you wanna update CWM, there will be a thread with the update. Usually you can flash it through ADB or flashing a zip file in CWM (same way as flashing a ROM
5.0.2.7 is the latest version of CWM

yes only 1
-I see in the app market there is a clockwork mod app there called "rom manager", is the same recovery app that some of this programs like Xboarder and such offer you the ability to flash (e.g. flash ClockworkMod 5.0.2.7) or is it different? rom manager is the name of the program for android, clockwork recovery is the name of the recovery provided by rom manager. clockworkmod 5.0.2.7 is a recovery based on clockwork i believe (was made by xboarder)
-The recovery app if my understanding is right is the app you boot into when you want to flash a new rom, wipe data, dalvik cache, battery stats, factory reset ...?
yes correct. usually you can also flash kernels, but only if you have s-off...only some phones come with s-off by the luck of draw and there is no way at this moment to make s-on into s-off..you must flash kernels seperately and cannot be flashed through recovery.
-Once you have root access why would you use a program to flash the clockwork recovery vs just installing it via the marketplace if they are the same?
because the latest rom manager recovery does not have the 5.0.2.7 version from xboarder right now.
-I just powered up in bootloader mode and then booted into recovery and notice that it says cwm based recovery v5.0.2.7 so I think I have the newest version from CWM, even newer than what is available in the market?
like i said this version is based on clockwork recovery made by xboarder I believe. actually clockwork recovery is at 4.0.0.4 or something like that. do not use that recovery
-I see and "X" watermarked in the back though so i believe this is "xboarder" I am surprised to see that if this app is from CWM
like i said again it is made by xboarder and it is BASED ON clockwork Recovery
-How do I update this recovery in the future?
Same way you did now.
-I also don't see the app in my list of apps for ROM manager so I am starting to think the recovery and the clockwork app in the market place are different and do different things
I believed I have answered these questions above.

I think I passed my final
Thanks very much for both replies
To confirm, the app in the market place, ROM Manager, does not work with the clockworkMod 5.0.2.7 as they are developed by different individuals?
right now it is a bit of a pain as I have to take out the battery, and of course the back cover, in order to boot into recovery (I guess the phone just goes into a sleep mode when I power down and not a fulls shut down?)
I suppose with a matching app and recovery you can use the app to boot into recovery without needing to take the battery out?
Thanks very much and I hope I can return the favor to other noobs at some point
Here's a better answer...
Make backups of anything and everything.
Do anything and everything to get some experience for yourself.
If you break something, restore and try again.
Try different recoveries, try different roms, try different methods!
Nobody needs to ask for permission before doing anything. Just do it and learn from it! Don't be afraid of damaging your phone because with the exception of physical modification, I haven't heard of a way to break it yet. But... there's always a first.

your phone goes into sleep mode because you probably have it set on fastboot. Go under power settings and check fastboot off, this way you don't have to take out the battery. Also there are other ways of getting into recovery mode...read binary's first thread in the general section about how to root your phone.

How can i restore stock recovery using CWM?

Hi all,
i have searched in the forum i haven't found answer to my question.
I have rooted my galaxy tab without odin(using stock recovery and .zip file to install supeuser.apk) and i have installed ClockWorkMod by rom manager then i have done a nanodroid backup before installing CyanogenMod9.
In this way i haven't yellow triangle and my counter is still at 0 ;-).
Now i want to replace stock rom and stock recovery, i have replaced nanodroid backup. Now i come back to stock rom rooted, i can unroot it using another .zip file to be loaded via recovery but i still have CWM recovery.
Can i flash the stock recovery using clockworkmod? If possible i prefer not use odin. Is there a file like stock_recovery.zip to be flshed via CWM recovery?
Thank you very much.
Maurizio

You can find a .zip containing cwm recovery in the "retail 4g" section. It worked for my 3g model and I think the zip will cooperate with any tab.
Here is the link to the zip:
http://www.mediafire.com/?w45j8i0fcj0wck0
Now unzip it, replace the recovery with your stock, zip it up and flash it through cwm.
I HAVE ONLY FLASHED PERSHOOT'S RECOVERY FOR CM9 THAT WAY, AND I AM NOT SURE WHAT HAPPENS WITH STOCK.
You can find the stock recovery for your device here:
http://www.sammobile.com/firmware/?page=3&t=3&o=1#osa
Download the proper firmware for your device/region, untar it and get the recovery.img.
Just fyi you can flash official firmware with odin without raising the binary counter (Or so they say. I haven't tried this yet). In that case though your device gets wiped, so make a full backup prior to that.
Good luck!

installed CWM recovery over TWRP with rom manager- how to remove CWM?

need some help please. just did something pretty dumb in a moment of not thinking. i went into rom manager and flashed cwm recovery (I'm using Hairy Bean 1.51 with TWRP) over the damn TWRP recovery, then did a system backup through rom manager. now I can boot into the rom, but no chance of recovery (as i'm guessing there is a twrp/cwm and possibly jb/ics conflict - if the rom manager flashed ics cwm recovery)
how do I get back my twrp recovery?
NB. Rom manager shows both TWRP recovery as well as CWM flashed and I can choose which i want to use... but when I pick TWRP, I still cannot access recovery. Is there an ADB command I can use to remove CWM and then reinstall TWRP? (I already tried installing the TWRP over it hoping to overwrite, but both recoveries still exist)
FIXED, NM.

[Q] CWM Recovery erased after reboot?

Hello,
I have just successfully rooted my S3 using "Heimdall Frontend" following the tutorial here:
However I found initially when leaving "No Reboot" unchecked I was unable to boot into CWM until I checked no Reboot then once the flash was complete I manually went into CWM by holding the recovery keys.
I then installed the SuperSu zip file on my SD card and rebooted my phone into it's newly rooted state.
HOWEVER.. I went to boot my S3 into CWM Recovery to flash a custom ROM and I'm only able to boot into the standard android recovery.. It says on the tutorial that versions 4.1.2+ need to tick "No reboot" otherwise the newer firmware simply wipes over CWM recovery every reboot..
I was under the impression that CWM was there as a safety net in case my phone ever played up and needed to be unrooted?
read this http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1911726
UPDATE: After using ROM Manager to boot into CWM to create a backup, it gave the option to "Fix reflashing to original recovery after reboot"
Is it a good idea to have CWM permanently flashed as my recovery? How would I revert back to the stock recovery should I want to unroot the device?
Thanks

[Q] Have I installed Clockworkmod or not?

I've been following instructions to install Android 4.4 KitKat on Galaxy Mega 6.3 via Cyanogenmod 11.
My device has been rooted for some time, but I have never before installed any ROMs.
I have successfully (it seems) installed Clockworkmod via Odin, yet when I boot into Custom recovery mod, there is no "backup and restore" option, and indeed I seem to be in "Android system recovery", not CWM recovery (see screenshot).
I know that I can't install Cyanogenmod without Clockworkmod on board, so I'm nervous to proceed. Can anyone please advise?

That looks like the standard recovery, not clockwork mod, what model of mega do you have?
You have to reboot to recovery first after flashing custom recovery. That's because the stock ROM checks if the recovery is changed and overwrites it with the stock recovery again.
Rebooting to recovery first will solve the issue.

Thanks for responding guys.
Jzsidebott: It's a Mega 6.3, GT-I9205, in England.
Silesh.Nair: I've installed "ROM Manager" and used "Reboot into recovery", but I get to the same place as before; "Android system recovery <3e>", exactly as the screenshot in my first post.
So I used Odin again, and again apparently successfully installed "GT-I9205-recovery.tar", but still I can only get standard recovery.
Could I ask you guys if you would recommend CyanogenMod Installer?
http://beta.download.cyanogenmod.org/install
I'm a newbie at this, so if this method is considered safe I'd be happy to go down that route. Any advice? Cheers.
Don't use ROM manager. Download the cwm tar file and use Odin to flash. Remember to untick auto reboot in Odin and then reboot to recovery first. It will work for sure. Don't flash anything if you are running Knox enabled firmware else you'll screw up your phone.

Thanks. As I said I did use Odin to flash. I just installed ROM Manager afterwards to try to find out whether the Odin Flash had worked. I am a newbie at this and to be honest I have no idea what Knox enabled firmware is or whether I'm running it. I think that for safety's sake I'd best drop the whole thing and not risk bricking my phone, but thank you all for the help all the same.
