Tink i broke it :( - Android Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

So i have a samsung gio S5660
i flashed the giopro rom 1.2, after a whle my celluar radio stopped working...
not just data, the whole lot, switching between flight mode and back locks it up, and going into wireless and networks, and the mobile networks tab is greyed out...
i have since flashed another rom and it didnt fix it...
it happened after i moved the dalvik cache back to the internal storage...
what do i do to fix it
also a2sd just stops responding when i open it on any rom now...

I'd try restoring the stock ROM with whatever tools Samsung provides for flashing. I'd especially try to get away from a2sd... it's not the most failure-proof script around and if you don't know how to fix the errors it produces you should really stay away from it.

Im so sry to hear that bt I think it serves you right...

Go f yourself buddy. You have no say with 1 post count... Especially when it serves no purpose but to mock.

Doesn't matter who started it, just try to act like civilized people.
Just remember: It's better to remain silent and be thought a fool than to open your mouth and remove all doubt.

agreed. So does anyone have any ideas on how to fix it tho ?

Well on new news and assumptions, it sounds like i broke my EFS... does anyone know how to repair / rebuild it?

Will you brick your HD2 if you keep flashing new ROM or Keep installing Android?

As mentioned above, Will you brick your HD2 if you keep flashing new ROM or Keep installing Android for many times?
Because recently i keep trying new ROMs and keep installing Android on my HD2... then call history or missed call record didnt keep in the phone everytime i make call or receive missed call, even i switch back to Window 6.5.
Numerous installation will it destroy your HD2???
If i understand this correctly .. the answer is a VERY easy.. and resounding..
YES!!!!!
Ok now that the scary part is over.. let me explain why.. just like your battery can only be charged and discharged a certain amount of times.. your memory system can only be written and overwritten a certain amount of times...
Now first of all this amount might be 10,000,000 or it might be 10,000 or even a grand.. and there is really no way of knowing when it will finally just be a corrupted system that cannot be written on anymore..
But here once again is ANOTHER catch.. every time you call or text anyone it saves stuff into your phone.. call logs texts messages.. navigation settings gps position.. camera settings and pictures.. location settings from roaming even antenna search and location just from walking around your block.. or hell even sitting still and satellites moving out of range and antennas resetting there position of incoming information signature....
SO
Yes.. you can only write and re write a system "x" amount of times.. but reality is.. someone on a stock rom who has never flashed a single thing.. who is on market place alot , traveling alot.. taking lots of pics.. ect.. has probably approached this threshhold closer than you have.
And
Since we dont know it it will handle 1,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000 megs of re write or 100.. there really isnt any point in worrying about it.
P.S.
Your ps3 remote.. will eventually stop charging.. your hardrive on your laptop will eventually crash.. your ipod will eventually be useless.. your dvr will eventually quit holding movies.. get where im going here? ReWriting damages stuff.. but we have NO way of knowing how much.. and youll probably upgrade before you ever have to
Well-explained bro! Thanks for that... But i assume there are lot more ppl keep flashing new ROMs and androids to test each amazing development!
What bout you? ROM addicts? LOL...
But weird enough, my call logs dont keep records anymore! Any idea that i could solve this problem?

If you mean it doesnt keep between flashes.. PIM is getting more and more useless and they need to either update or i think the lot of us are going elsewhere.. there are alot of solutions.
I used to be a rom addict... now im a hardreset addict.. which i guess is almost as bad.. but it seems most roms have hit a wall where the updates are person specific.. so it there isnt something in the log i want .. i just let it pass.. for instance i cant see moving from energys 216XXX rom for a while.
I'd just keep on flashing by heart.. What you are probably aiming for is called 'wear leveling', which indeed means blocks on the memory can be written a finite amount of times.
However, I believe that even with flashing your device daily, it will most likely not fail until you have had your new phone 2 years from now..
And IF it fails because of bad blocks, just send it in for repair.

I just got my HD2 for 2 months and i have been flashing for umpteen times... It is just fun to see how the cooked ROMs like, any new features... Then now i started to feel my HD2 is sick already... Keep freezing and now all the call history doesnt record, such as call out, receive call or even missed call!
Then i do a Hardreset... Still no use... Any idea??
Flashed 1 too many times..
I have been flashing new roms to find out which one helps android run best and I bricked my TMOUS HD2. White screen with green htc letter. I can get to the Hard reset menu but I'm not sure what or where to go from here. Any advice? Thanks.

Hardreset menu, did you press volume up to restore the factory default setting?
could try a task 29 too
so lets get this right if i flash it 100,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000 time it will bugger it up maybe....bugger only 99,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,090 times left
your call history thing is probably android related.....
mine was screwy the first time I booted back to wm...
some info was still there but it wouldn't store anything new
turned out that the date was set to 2011not 2010, check that....
Tried task 29, but failed to do so.... It hanged on black HTC screen with percentage bar... what should i do next to save my lovely HD2??? :`(

[Q] com.android.phone Force closes. from Stock to MIUI

Hello folks of XDA,
I came here because I have not heard any response on the MIUI forums and UI guess is because the community over there is not as big.
Anywayas, I flashed 1.8.5 MIUI, and I suddenly could not see the screen after I dialed a phone number. Then I also noticed that I could not see the answer screen when someone called me.
Everything else worked like a charm, so I thought to myself, well, maybe I have not been back on JFD for a while, so I went ahead and restored the phone back to stock, follow even the MIUI procedure for the massive JFD restore, and it does not matter.... Any Rom from stock to MIUI or CM7.1 all give me the same problem or an app force close, of phone freeze. I can hear the person on the other side if I call, but there is no human way I can answer the phone.
I believe the phone.apk might be the problem, but after trying to do all kinds of factory reset and format, I am still in the same place.
So my first question is, is there a way to fully format the phone and put it with stock apps. Like out of the box? using CWM gives you the option to format the mount points, but I am afraid to format everything and then have a true bricked phone.
Any comments suggestions, questions, please let me know. I been working on this for 2 days now with no avail.
Bump. I have no phone, so it is very frustrating
So I called tech support and see if they had any idea of what could it be. in the end I am back on stock, so what more harm can I do to it right? Well the tech said something that really leave me thinking. He said that the proximity sensor could be damaged. Now that makes a lot of sense, in the end the phone is already somewhat old and I have had my mishaps dropping it from time to time, but luckly no scuffs on it. What do you guys think?
This though is gonna mean that I have to go get me a new phone today ....

[Q] Unique issues; screen unresponsive, random reboots, freezing

Soo I have a Galaxy S II I9100. And it was great until something happened. Lord knows what happened to it. But I was running the latest version of Sensation ROM (1.6) smoothly. Then yesterday all of the sudden my phone kinda stops working more or less. The screen became unresponsive at times, the screen would activate on its own and then I would not be able to use it. After taking the battery out and restarting it things were OK for about 5 minutes.
Then after trying to open any sort of applications the Voice Command app would start and I wouldn't be able to exit out of it. After mashing the home button I could get out of it and then trying to open anything would result in a black screen (status bar active at top). So I figured maybe something went wrong with the software. I happened to have an update .zip of Sensation from 1.5 to 1.6, so I reflashed. This did not really help out. Even plugging in the USB cable was a 50/50 chance, Windows would tell me that the device is seemingly defective and sometimes it would work. But then trying to open USB Mass Storage was a big headache as well.
So I let it sit the night and then this morning I used Odin to flash a stock kernel. This seemed to help out somewhat, it made the system more stable and usable for a little bit. In the meantime I went to the so called "Samsung Cell Phone Service Center" in my city which turned out to be some repair shop for iPhones (go figure). After elaborately explaining my problems they said "must be a software issue". Which it is't. Anyways in the meantime I called Samsung America for direction, after talking to 3 different CS reps they referred me to call Samsung UK because that's where the phone was manufactured.
After that I did a factory reset and that made the issues even worse.
So I'm at a cross roads. I am probably going to be putting a call into Samsung UK tomorrow to try and figure something out.
Do a FULL wipe in CWM and then flash a stock rom. See if that helps. If not, then it's a hardware problem.
I had done that and then flashed a stock ROM which removed CWM, root, and the Sensation ROM. While that seemed to have helped, it would still randomly reboot (fewer than now) and the same issues persisted but less frequently. In the SGS2 stock recovery mode I did factory reset and wiped all data and cache and the problems are back and more frequent. I did take the phone to the beach but it was in a bag wrapped in a shirt..
could that have somehow caused this issue with the hardware?
I'm thinking that this is a hardware issue.
Yes, I think it is. One thing that comes to mind, did your modem change when flashing different roms? If not try a different modem. Otherwise it's really a hardware problem.

[Q] Phone infected, Tried everything, nothing worked

Guyz,
I recently lost my samsung guru on my way to office and then I had to switch back the old galaxy i7500 lying around for months. It was still alive and had recently been services(the touchscreen) by the authorized service centre.
I am comfortable with recovery/rom and before sending it to service I had galaxo 1.6(the latest stable back then) on my phone. I even had some(3 to be exact) nandroid backups on my phone. After it returned from the service centre it started acting strange. Now the problem begins.
It looks & works completely fine until I call somebody. Then something just starts running in the background, random keypresses, some random application starts, and I see the volume bar all the time as some continuous volume up command is given, I presume. It just goes on like this during the entire call and even a few seconds after the call. Another problem is it silents my phone every time someone calls me, so no matter what I set in the settings I never ever hear a ring when someone calls me, even the vibration gets off.
Solutions I tried: Obviously I tried formatting the storage(it doesn't have any external storage). Flashing the ROM, changing the ROM, drakaz 2.1, recovery 6.6 etc. Nothing helped, I even tried(with some workaround) and got the old nandroid backup restored . .. but to no avail. I have currently Kaspersky installed on my phone but even it can not detect anything. I have not given odin a try yet as I am on Mac and currently not very comfortable with heimdall.
I must thank you for reading this long post of mine & appreciate any little help any of you can offer, even some sympathy will do.
Thanks in advance,
Abhinav
It's probably not a virus if you completely reflashed your phone, unless it nestled itself in the recovery (or other partitions that don't get wiped).
Have you tried flashing a new radio? If the problem starts when calling maybe the radio is corrupt or fried or somehow busted. Also, the radio isn't affected when you switch ROMs so it would explain why reflashing/wiping/restoring backups doesn't help.
Since your phone isn't officially supported I have no idea how you would go about finding alternative radios though.
Please use the Q&A Forum for questions &

Sounds more like an issue with the screen rather than a software issue. I'd take it back to the service center and have them take another look, it could've been improperly fixed.

manual install of radio?

sorry if wrong place to post this, but basically I have been racking my brain trying to figure this out.
i have an S3 mini (like that isnt bad enough)
and i decide to root, flash cm10 (mcklaw golden beta2 and enjoy all the perks of cm10 and enjoyed the phones greater usability for at least 1 day,
suddenly i get the old signal drop issue, so i figure my phones modems playing up, the baseband is XXXX and im convinced i need to reflash it, so i do, (data wipe/wipe) and the same thing happens usable for a few hours, but after the third time i realise this isnt a long term solution.
So i look around for various solutions, im pointed to the efs folder and .nv_data, to which i say to myself 'im glad i backed that up!'
...i restore efs and i see everything is normal however i dont seem to have nv_data at all, (im not convinced it was ever there?)
more to my surprise, i have IMEI, I check *#*#4636#*#* everything looks ok, the radio seems to function and i have everything but baseband,
signal comes and goes, sometimes its fine 3g etc other times nothing
im just asking basically does it sound like i have lost my efs folder? and any ideas what i could try to narrow down the issue, or possibly resolve it?
thanks alot for your time,
G
