[Q] Mount only external sd card? - Atrix 4G Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Is there a way that enables me to only mount the external sd card when i plug my phone in via usb cable and select mass storage mode. But I would have the option to mount the internal memory if i wanted to.

What would you need this for?

So that i can plug my phone into my car stereo and play my music files from the external sd card. It gets confused sometimes because it mounts both memory cards and doesnt know which to read.

Bump... anyone have any ideas?

U could always hold the power button in, wait till it asks u what u want to do, hit shutdown, let it shutdown all the way.....then get in your car. Now adjust your seat, mirrors, put seat belt on, aaaaand ...insert a cd! Blam. Fixed.

Are you using the cord that came with your phone? I tried using a non se cord and had this same issue. For some reason standard cords even if they fit only allow for charging

It means the sim isn't inserted/isn't recognised. Remove it, give it and the connector a quick clean/blow (Ha!) and it should be fine.
Its not the sim card. Its the memory card symbol.

nope. just wont go away.
Do you have an external sdcard inserted? Check if its mounted, visible in file manager.
Are all sdcard, internal & usb (mounted), and external, visible in CWM Recovery when connected to pc?
Check, menu / settings / storage / unmount & mount again
Power off and reinsert, checking the contacts on card and phone are ok and not obstructed.
FULL format card in pc fat32 default allocation. Edit: backup contents first.

Thanks for your replies.
it is definitly not the Memory card, as i removed it and turned on the phone, and as soon as i make a phone call and hang up, this weird icon appears in the status bar.
On a sidenote, this has started happening once i swapped my simcard because i changed carriers.
Can you try another sim, maybe a friends? Maybe sim itself?

Problem with CM7 and USB storage mode.

Hi, just flashed the latest CM7 nightly and sirah kernel, everything runs perfect and I'm really pleased with it. Only 1 issue, when connecting to my PC and selecting USB storage from notification bar it only lets me access the external SD card and not the internal, the internal one is just grayed out in 'my computer'. Any help is appreciated, thanks.

Bump. Has nobody else had the issue with internal storage not mounting? Cheers.

Otg

If there some kind of way to use the otg calbe and not have to reboot when it's unplugged I think that's kinda dumb you have to reset you phone

what rom you using you shouldn't have to . i only have to cause swiftkey goes crazy force closing lol.
I have never needed to reboot the phone to use my otg cable. Use something like otg helper from the play store for mounting an sdcard.

I am on my third phone , all have been unable to dismount an external device. It does not matter what the Rom is, stock , Viper.....
The only way I know of is to shut down and restart.

Ok I noticed that after the first time I plugged in my otg I now have this new folder that says storage under sdcard and it has a sdcard0 folder and the usb folder maybe switching from sdcard0 to sdcard is why it has to be rebooted

Sdcard0 is just the os's mount point for internal storage.

I have 2 for internal storage one just sdcard on the root of the phone and another in the new folder storage sdcard0

As I understand it the one in root is a syslink to the sdcard0. You can hold down a folder and make links to it in other places to. edit:as you can see here it points to that location all the time

SD card stuck in read only

My SD is stuck in read only and won't let me delete or add files. I've tried changing the permissions to R/W in root explorer and removing a file but it shows right back up. I took the card out and used and adapter to mount it to my PC but it won't let me delete, add, or format the card. On the adapter it has a lock switch but it is set to unlock and other SD cards work both in my phone and with the adapter on the computer. Any ideas?

Didn't mean to thank that... Anyhow, I've had that happen before and unfortunately that is a sign it is no good any longer. Nothing I did would fix it. Maybe someone else has a suggestion though.
