Hi guys.
This is not a, "which Rom is the best", thread. More like a, just right Rom, thread.
I've been trying to resist the.temptation of root, but now I'm getting restless. In giving in. I want undervoltage. I want WiFi tether. I want sense 3 lockscreen. (forget agile lock. I bought that pos).
Im currently downloading the files needed to root. I d/l'ed bamf 3.0 rc4.9.
I'm interested in a stable gb sense 3.0 Rom or a froyo sense 2.1 Rom with the sense 3 lockscreen ported to it. Preferrably 1 based on mr2. I have been entirely too busy to search for threads for answers and currently don't have internet connection other than my phone data plan, mobile web, and tapatalk pro. So t thought I'd start a discussion based on all the current & updated Roms available to recommend for DAILY DRIVERS. Thanks guys.

Gingeritis 3D, uber BAMF, synergy, skyraider, theory roms. All good roms worthy of being dd's. Try em out and see wich one you like the best.

bamf 3.0 rc4.9 is not what I call a great daily driver anymore. It's old and based on a leak that's 2 leaks out of date. Stick with ROMs based on the last 2 leaks.
I have been extremely happy with the Synergy nightlies! Only one in the last two months that I would not consider a daily driver and that was pulled, fixed and reuploaded later that day.
I agree with sonami. I have used uberBAMF, Gingervitis 3D, the Theory sense roms, and Skyraider. All current versions are great for DD use.
The skills of these devs (and the themers/modders who support them) is amazing.
Uber BAMF. I think it's the best ROM I have tried so far. Though I haven't tried them all but quite a few of them.

I've been VERY happy with Synergy ROMs, I've had a whole lot of problems (random rebooting) with others.
If you want a solid sense based one go with Th3roy's M0N0LITHTH3ROY v1.1 It's the smoothest Sense based rom I've used yet.
I'm testing the waters with th3roy's CL3NTH3ROY and it's really nice too but it's not a sense 3.0 based one.
Make sure you flash the MR2 radio first. When I flashed the first time I didn't do this and it created a ton of problems.
ROMs based on the last two leaks don't show voice mail notifications because of a bug in the leaked code. This could be a consideration for those looking for a daily driver.

Thanks for the input guys. I'm using uberbamf pre3. It's working out for me. But keep the suggests coming.

I was originally rooted and ran Das Bamf for a while but it bothered me that the front facing camera and voicemail notifications did not work, so I unrooted and upgraded to OTA.
Here is what I'm looking for in a ROM:
* Gingerbread based
* 100% phone functions work as they should (front facing camera, voicemail notifications, etc.)
* Bloatware removed
* Stock interface (sense or AOSP) ... I'm just not much for customized screens, fonts, etc.
Is there a ROM for me?

how is this guy not banned yet for being so picky?
well, i'd say probably Das BAMF (sense based) although those folk aren't welcome around these parts. you'll have to look elsewhere for their ROMs.
Until Verizon and HTC release an official Gingerbread build for this phone, the Voicemail from Verizon will not work properly.
I've tried just about every sense ROM there is. There are versions of visual voicemail that work...but I sold myself to Google Voice a while ago...and I should've done it sooner.
Any GB build is based off a leak and folks "Tweaking" things to get them to work.
You could try 10 different ones, I'd damn near guarantee none of them will have 100% of everything working (as pointed out by VM...for starters).
There are quite a few good choices... DroidTh3ory builds a mean, lean and fast one.
DAS BAMF is nice as is Virus ROMs (Synergy).
There are plenty others, but these are the main three I bounce between...
Get into a good nandroid habit...and you can go from one ROM to the next in 20 minutes or so...and learn basic ADB Shell commands in case you bork...download the Android SDK.
Voicemail and FFC work on AOSp ROMs.

I disagree on bamf sense 3.0 working great. It works, has its bugs but its not like aosp so I agree with Droid theory. And btw his roms are excellent. I've used gingered. And infused before I switched to liquid thunderbread and he just came out with an aosp. So props on that. And besides I feel bad for you for going back to stock with bloatware and slowdownthephones absolute potential ware. Hahahahs. And ffc and voicemail have worked fine forr me. With every rom I've had. It didn't like to work on stock though.

Im in the same boat. I just got a TBolt and have it rooted, but am a little confused about all the ROMS (Sense 2.1, 3.0, etc) Should I just stay with rooted "stock" until GB is officially out?
Quick question.... Boot newbie question.... What us aosp?
Sent from my ADR6400L using XDA App
AOSP is android open source project. Google gave devs their code and told em to go to town to help develop better software. The difference between aosp and sense is this. Sense roms are typically 269 MB or more. Aosp roms are 69-79 MB smaller more efficient and extremely faster.
Sent from my HTC ThunderBolt using XDA App
Try DroidTh3ory's AOSP 1.1.1. This is the fastest, and most stable AOSP experience I've had. Totally bloat-free, 100% functionality, best performance of any rom, hands down.
AOSP - Android Open Source Project - Barebones android, released to dev's to fine-tune for devices.
Sense - HTC's 'fine-tuning' of AOSP, including 200mb+ of 'pretty' and 'shiny' and 'bloaty' and 'whatever else verizon, amazon, htc, your mom wants to stick in there.'
So I'm currently running Bamf 3.0 rc4.9 is considered aosp or sense? Do you still have all functionality of sense Roms? Does running an aosp extend battery life? Oh another newb question.... How do I make a nandroid backup? Is it a app or just recovery image? Thanks in advance

You are running sense 3.0 so it is not aosp at all. It may be fast but does not compare to any of the aosp roms. when I first switched to an aosp rom my eyes started glowing with the speeds. For example I was running Gingered theory and got 1885 on my quadrant scores. (Overclocked to 1.9) And when I switched to aosp I got 3000 on just 1.4 overclocked.

Yep. You're good. When you flash a new rom it will get rid of your current kernel. Cause roms already come with kernels.
There are kernels for aosp and sense. Use aosp kernel for aosp. Don't use sense!
Aosp is fast for sure. Sense roms have better battery now IMO. But aosp will catch up.

MIUI is my favorite so far.
How does Eternity compare to Bamf/Bamf Soab? It's hard to find clear comparisons with all of the variety out there.
ps. I'm actually still on the stock GB rom right now
Enternity here as well.
I believe because of all the Sense 3.5 elements, it's a hair slower than others.
Mine is OC'd to 1.2 with Lagfree Governer.
That being said, it's fine with me.
Rock solid. I've dabbled in every ROM out there.
BAMF does make a solid ROM. DroidTh3ory was making killer ROMs.
I have a backup of ProTekk's updated CM style ROM to go just because...
In my opinion, Eternity and BAMF SonOfAB ran very similar in speed/performance and reliability.
Patiently waiting working Data, Phone and sms/mms on Twisted/DroidVicious ICS build...
All the ROMs you mentioned are solid. But the right one for you is like asking you what kind of car/truck you drive.
Backup, try 'em...only way you'll know.
Using MIUI although the Son of a Bliss ROM was also one that kept me for a long time. I still feel CM7 has battery drain issues but maybe it's just me.
Eternity for me...
My only other choice would be BAMF SoaB because I want Sense 3.5 but I prefer Eternity and I really can't think of a reason why, it just works for me.
CM7 for me!
Love my 11/14 release of CM7. I have never had batt issues, maybe cause I cal the batt after each new rom?
CM7 seems to me the closest total Android experience I have found for my TB.
I'm looking forward to CM9!
Where can I download cm7 or soab

Another cm7.2 based rom to check is the new rom zombie. I just loaded it up and so far is awesome. Has a nice red theme to it.

That 3.5 Rom drains crazier then a rat in outhouse. In ten minutes lost 10% then lost more about the same rate. This Rom needs to be fixed.as that is not stable. Seems as is stock os the best on the battery, and that is sad. Also your my Verizon app won't work which is another area of concern with limited data and shared plans we need to have an app that works. UNACCeptable people to have those two issues. My Verizon app is not.bloate as it gives vital account information.

You force me to agree with the troll, damn it! I have to qualify your statement with: 'which eternity'? I was very happy with 248 but when I updated to my battery life dropped down to 5 - 6 hours(!) with no change in the setup.
I'm getting over 14 hours of battery life with Gingeritis 3d by comparison and the phone is getting the same or more use.

Yes, r248 had better battery life then the latest test builds.
Why is that you ask?
As I stated in the Eternity thread, the newest build has a test kernel from Ziggy based on the latest OTA, as is the new test build Rom.
That kernel has an identified and known issue where the Performance and On Demand governor are locked at Max, no matter what you do.
The solution:
Change governor to Lag Free, or install Imos 6.2 kernel for Mr4 based roms, or the Bamf 3++ kernel.
Then apply your preferred CPU settings.
Battery use should return to as good or Better then r248.
The new kernel in the Rom is being reworked currently to resolve the issue.
So, the concern is with the kernel, more so then the Rom.
As far as Gingeritis having better battery life, I don't doubt that any Sense 3.5 Rom is going to be somewhat more draining on our devices/batteries.
Im talking about r248 but i still had decent battery on the test builds.

Your explanation is very much appreciated but......
I never thought I'd say this and it's subject to change from hour to hour...... I'm pretty much stuck on Gingeritis 3D, getting up in the AM, subjecting the phone to fairly heavy use and seeing 50% battery or more remaining when I go to bed is something I thought I'd never see after abandoning my BB for Android and.....
I seem to have lost my enthusiasm for messing with this phone for some reason? Every thing works now with Thunderstick BB or Eternity or Liquid or ???? and the only reason I change from one ROM to another is some minor annoyances and battery life so.... I think maybe I'll leave well enough alone.
I'm saving my flashing desires for when the devs get ICS with Sense 4.x, I'll don't think I'll flash ICS with Sense 3.x and I might just wait for Jellybean?
I have about forever left on my contract and then we'll see what's up.
So it changed as I said it might! Tried the Bamf kernel and battery life is back to normal.
Up until yesterday I had been running the Thunderstick GenII rom for the last 6-7 months (been running Thunderstick roms since last September..when Verizon bricked my phone with their update). It is a very stable Sense rom, and the only issue I had with it was my custom ring tones would sometimes get confused. The only reason I upgraded was to try something new (now running Thunderstick FullBlown) and I am half tempted to go back to the GenII just because it has some features I like that the FullBlown version does not.
Been running ThunderStick ROMS (FB, BB) for a good while... They just work on my phone. YMMV. Flashed SfKCM7 (AOSP) last nite and it runs real smooth... Gonna ride with this til I get the itch

But browsing and reading up a little but still confused on whats available??? Would love to try jelly bean but i can settle for ICS
Battery life, speed and stability are the important points for a daily driver
Whats you suggestions????
I know I'm gonna regret it as soon as i root and flash the official update will probably come out but i remember when i first rooted my OG droid I never went back so what you guys suggest??? also next upgrade will probably be taking the nexus 4 to straight talk but wanna get a few more months out of my Thunderbolt u would think HTC would want to keep the customers that run out and bought the first 4G device but i guess all they really care about is our money.

If you're looking for an ICS build there really is no amazing one yet, but Liquid's is the best you will find with Nusense a close second. My personal recommendation for a daily driver though is Thundershed, or any of the roms from reds. I am running ikream nosense and enjoy it a bit. There is also the sense based offering of it both are pretty nice. Depending on what rom you go with there are kernels and things like that to pick up from there.
If you want something bug free i recommend Skyraider zeus 1.3. Thats what im using with the lean kernel. Its very smooth. Plus there is a sweet ics theme for it. As was I. I just assumed my phone had aids though since it sees to work quite well for a lot of users
Proving again that all Thunderbolts are different, don't know why, but each responds differently to different ROMS.
To the OP, remember! Flashing is cheap, don't hesitate to try several ROMs before deciding on one you like.
I lean toward the NuSense but battery life isn't quite what I need... <sigh>
Another hearty recommendation for SkyRaider 1.3.
I've been evaluating lots of other ROMs and radio combos. Nothing has been as solid a daily driver as SkyRaider Zeus.
I'm really working at using Twisted's AOKP ICS, but my Bolt doesn't love it. I keep getting data hangs, and have to reset the radios via Airplane mode off/on.
And the leaked Sense ICS was way too battery hungry for me.

If you really want a solid ROM with everything working great, Sky Raider is excellent. Especially since I like having a good camera and video camera. Nice to have everything work perfectly. I love AOSP, it is very fast, but you don't get the same functionality (dont get me wrong it is very close, but small things like camera are just not quite as good) you do with Sense. I hate sense but skyraider really is a great ROM

I sent you a private message with the link. Not sure if I am allowed to post it in the forum. If anyone else needs it just PM me.
You should check out Twisted's new rom. I haven't had any problems with it and it's the smoothest rom I've had in awhile.
So can anyone give me a rundown on the differences on these ROM's? I've seen Liquid 3.2, Thundershed, and Skyraider mentioned here. Which are Sense based and which are AOSP. Are the Sense based Rom's laggy? I've tried NuSense, and it was a nice ROM, but just too laggy for my taste. I've tried Jesters and Twisted's 11-7 version of Liquids ICS ROM, and they've been great, but I'm having too many bluetooth issues which will interfere with work so it's a no go if I can't simply turn on the bluetooth and let it connect.
I understand flashing is supposed to be quick and easy so just try them all, but it seems to take me several hours to get everything backed up, flashed, and put back the way I like it. Any input would be greatly appreciated.

I have only used LiquidSmooth 3.2. It is a Gingerbread AOSP. Any Sense ROM tends to be very laggy on either of my Thunderbolts. And all of the ICS ROM's seem to have at least one problem or another that keeps it from being my daily driver(bluetooth, wifi, camera or camcorder especially!)
It all depends on what you can and can't live without on a DD. Most of the Gingerbread ROMS's shouldn't have many, if any, issues. Some may be slightly slower than others and look different but all should make a good DD. The current ICS ROM's for the mecha are extremely fast, but usually lack in the camcorder or wifi department.
This thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1905083 has most of the ROM's linked(except LiquidSmooth3.2 Not sure why all the links to it were removed, Liquid is the Man tho and gotta respect his decision)

I found basically all sense roms to be laggy except for Skyraider. I'd recommend it to anyone.

My fallback is in my signature, I like it cause it's tweakable and just works.
Infection has been great, especially now that video tearing is a thing of the past.

[ROM][CDMA/GSM][JB-4.2.2] Official XenonHD - RC [05.23.13][LINARO 13.04]
Been running so smooth. Unbelievable battery life. Not one reboot or lockup.
Surprisingly enough my absolute favorite rom of all-time:
For the Rezound:
Xtreme Outcast's v3.0 - The ORIGINAL desensed rom. Runs so much like an AOSP rom but you can tell it's desensed. For those who wish to try it (Use Go SMS/Handcent for texts)

For a different device:
Tied between Steel Droid & Sourcery for the Moto Droid1 (sholes)

PS: Yes I do still use the OG from time to time
So a good buddy over on chargeforums is sending me his old rezound with the Infection Rom on it. What do you guys think of it? The Charge has two Roms currently, and one coming, but the devs were limited due to how Samsung locked the ril (Radio Interface Layer) which prevented the devs from getting any sort of netutils and limiting what could be done.
HTC on the other hand, didn't, so I'm pretty excited to see what all you guys have. I may start asking questions once I get the phone, but for now I just wanted to see what you all thought if the Rom.

For the Rez, I love PAC personally, I like having ALL of the custom options!
Infection seems pretty popular too.

Me too! It's funny loading up the JB rom on that old of a device, but I mostly ran with Steel Droid on it.
I keep my OG Droid in my car, which was awfully convenient when my Rez got stolen, I had a fully operational phone in an hour!
I was a fan of the liberty series for DX/d2.

My Rezound has been on CM9 most of its life, and I just can't find anything else that even compares.
Ineffabilis 1.4 I believe it was a sense 3.6 rom.
ROM was loaded and probably one of the few that never gave me any problems.
@zourn
Its the only non tablet device i found with a honeycomb port lol
@Sutanrei
Sense 3.5; even though i liked that ROM. Still didn't stand out for me.

if it was for any device. i would say Redemption Rom for the incredible. On the rezound i would have to say its CM10.1
Ineffabilis Deus v1.2
I always landed back on it after trying every other ROM until CM10.1 Its almost a year old and every bit as good as it was the day it dropped.
Neo's INFECTION is great. Previously I would say version 2.3, but my favorite has to be his 2.6 Inverted Dev Edition.
Well I finally have the phone, and it came loaded with Infection 2.3 which I immediately upgraded to 2.6. I'm loving this phone! I haven't tried any other Roms or kernels yet though. I know this is probably asked a lot but, if all the big ROMs are AOSP based, how are they different? I cave from a phone with two ROMs and both had pretty big differences. Is it just the tweaks, or are there major differences that I just didn't see while reading through them?
