Hi I was browsing around and noticed some 3vo owners who have changed the Capacitive and LED lights in there devices. Me as a noob would like to do this but am having problems on how I should. I went on eBay and bought some blue LeDs and was wondering if anyone who has done this can.point me into the right direction without me ruining my fone. I would appreciate any responses.

Just put electrical tape to cover them up. You have seen the earlier thread with everyone doing right? I did mine 3 weeks ago with blue and hasn't faded one bit.

I haven't seen that thread at all where is it at? And since you've already done it how hard is it to do? I already bought the LEDS.... I wish I knew I could do it with tape. Smh.

I've seen it on youtube with red leds.
Your better off coloring them with a Sharpie marker (I did it with my blackberry) than trying to physically swap them. I tried to do a soldiering repair to a USB wifi thingy and ended up cooking the board.

This. Or tape and a Sharpie. Don't see why swapping them is a good idea at all. What if something outside of the swap requires you to take it in for warranty? You gotta make that look stock again. Removing tape is easy. Resoldering a tiny led is a hassle.

What kind of tape and will the tape be noticable? And where would it go, inside the phone?

Yep. Colored vinyl tape inside the phone over the little led lights. And just for good measure (in case the colored vinyl fades, like mine did) use a colored Sharpie over the tape. Then put it back together.

I asked this same question few days ago also and the best tip I got was to start on the opposite side of the camera and peel it off..I now have replacement batteries to change every day and found out if you do it the way then just peel it open like a book ...you don't have to do it hard...it gets used to openning and comes right off. I really don't mind if the back falls off becuase I always have a case on it...hard it silicone and it hoods it in place. I still do this very carefully. I realize tho many will not like this...but I gotta work with what I have...don't like it....but till replacement backs come on the market...it will do.
Its like the area above the mhl has a gap no matter how hard I press it won't go down.

Never mind. HTC being the kick-ass company they are is sending me a new back cover free of charge!
Mine also has a small gap just beside the headphone jack. It just doesn't line up very well right there.

This method works great, thanks!
I'm not sure what it is, or if it's like a protectant layer that's wearing off.
But it's only in the lower half of the screen towards the middle.
It covers almost the whole bottom half, it looks like something splattered on it. But I can get it off with anything, I tried water, eyeglass cleaner, and Window cleaner.
It's really annoying I can feel the difference when I try to slide my finger across.
It's all fine when I clean it, it looks perfectly fine. But when I slide my thumb across is shows up.

Sent from my HTC_Amaze_4G using XDA
It should lift it as the alcohol evaporates... and I would only recommend alcohol so if any gets in the device it won't hurt it
Sent from my Triumph using XDA
It is actually the oil repellent(or something like that) coating, unfortunately, it is irreversible unless you get it painted again I guess, or replace the screen. your best bet is put on a screen protector.
This happened to BOTH of my previous android phones, Acer Liquid (happened really quickly because the screen is not very sensitive), Atrix (device too fast, so I browse the web on it too much so it has worn off too)
Moved on to HTC Amaze, I guess it is just the same, I better put a screen protector on first...
One question though, did you ever use screen protector? Both of my previous devices did, I wonder if they take a thin layer off when you peel them off....
Well I bought my phone used so I'm not sure.
The alcohol didn't work, so I'm pretty sure it's the coating...
Time to get a screen protector.
Sent from my HTC_Amaze_4G using XDA
Well I can't really tell...
It almost acts like it's coming off, I can't really feel it anymore and I can only see it when I purposefully get my screen dirty. But it looks like something was smeared on it and half of it came off and it's in a hole bunch of little dots and globs.

So, a while back, a few people mentioned dinging or scratching the bezel around the screen to find it was metal, and from there a few people asked if anyone had gone so far as to strip the paint off to reveal the metal. Ala: iPhone silver bezel style.

I thought about doing this after my phones paint started fading but it ended up breaking and got a replacement. How did you removed the paint? I was going to try some kind of paint remover so the metal doesnt get scratched up or maybe buff it off with a dremmel fabric tip. The metal under there doesn't look uniform or is that due to the way you took the picture? I think also shoulda left the one by the camera button and switch black.
EDIT: NM about my question of how you did it, I just read the rest of the other thread to see exactly what you did.

I thought about a paint remover but was hesitant of that with the screen and such. I'm good with a Dremel, so I used that. I also figured the tip I used was going to cause an uneven look, which is what I was... Not "hoping for" but figuring would.happen and was prepared to go on to the next step of getting that out. But I liked the raw look that happened and wanted to keep it. Kindof looking forward to it oxidizing. Lol.

Used one of the youtube vids for dis-assembly. Re-assembly is basically just the same steps in reverse. The most difficult part was lining up the placement of the digitizer on the LCD. If you don't get this right, the screen will not fit properly. I had to somewhat set the pieces together all in place loosely to get the alignment right (lcd sitting in the slot with the digitizer somewhat in place in the front bezel), and then take them apart and secure them together better to ensure a proper fit if that makes sense. My first try - lining thing up by eye - was not quite right. I used some 3M 2mm adhesive I ordered along with the tools. Taking the digitizer off is a bear, it takes quite a bit of patience and a bit of force. Reseating the cables is also a pain, use the plastic pry tool to help reseat, and have LOTs of patience during the whole process. Make sure to give yourself a solid hour or more. I just broke my second screen today with a beer bottle of all things, so I'll have to redo this whole process here shortly. Also make sure the front of the LCD and back of the digitizer are very clean, and the adhesive is lined up properly and not blocking sensors. I didn't do this well, and have a slight bit of adhesive sticking out the bottom side about 1mm into the visible area of the LCD, and the back of the digitizer is noticeably "gunky" in the front camera region, which I think is also causing some issues I'm having with the front proximity sensor. Hopefully I'll do a better job this next time. Good luck!

I've seen a couple places online that you can send your phone to and they'll replace the screen and ship it back to you within a few days. Never tried a site like that tho and could be kinda sketchy but that's an option. Also here in Albuquerque there are tons of Craigslist ads for screen replacement here in town so you could check your city's page and see what you find.
Sent from my Rezound using xda premium
I did this very thing last week successfully with no problems. Follow the repair video by repair universe on YouTube to the letter and you will do just fine. The key is to take your time and make sure the phone is heated enough with the hair dryer or heat gun to ensure that the adhesive comes apart smoothly. Take extra special precaution not to crack the LCD screen when removing the glass (digitizer) from it
If you're not willing to take the chance, you could always send it to me (for free) but I can't guarantee a flawless victory

I see what you did there...
If you decide to repair your screen yourself, there are also four transparent pieces of plastic that you need to put on the new screen.
They are for the capacitive buttons, so they redirect the light from the lights on the motherboard to the buttons.
Unless you don't want lights, of course. (I forgot to put them on mine lol, but I don't mind having no lights)
Also, when you put it back together, make sure to seal it very well on the outside so water doesn't get in and screw up the digitizer. You may have to use glue or something else as a sealant.
Every time it rains, my digitizer gets messed up from water getting in. (crossing my fingers for no permanent damage)

I always try to play nice with my phones. I hated that cover from day one but as always played nice (didn't rip or cut it off) but the day it fell off, I picked it up and put it in original box I also kept. My HTC incredible 1 and my HTC thunderbolt both made it till next upgrade with out that cover. Reminds me of those port covers on the older dumb phones that never really had a purpose but to make the port weaken over time, then go bad and phone quit charging. Not worth replacing at any price. But good luck to you if you really feel you need one!

They may fall off "easily", but I have no use for the USB port right now anyway since I'm using a wireless charger... there are always ways to work around the USB cable to transfer files as well. Not sure why so many people look down on people who want to keep their flap intact...

For those of you that have replaced this rubber port cover, how easy/difficult was this process?
To replace the cover, you have to take off the entire back. The little port cover isn't held on by anything though, it just sits between the phone and the plastic backing. Unless you're an expert at taking unibody phones apart, it's not worth it because I broke the waterproof seal strip during the process. It was glued on.
