if you have the GB bootloaders just flash over like a normal rom
if you dont have the bootloaders use an odin version of the rom you want to flash then flash updates with rom manager

so to odin it, i dud need my exact rom and then the GB boot loaders as the PDA?

might not need the bootloaders to odin it but you cant see recovery without the bootloaders but with the odin files voodoo sometimes messes up and you need to go to recovery to disable it so you'll need the bootloaders
just flash the bootloades with odin and flash the rom over whatever you're on, probably the easiest way

the GB bootloaders sits at setup connection and never starts

yeah there is an option that will clear your sd card in odin so you have to watch to make sure its not checked. It happens sometimes

What 2.3 ROM are you planning on flashing? You don't want GB bootloaders if you plan on flashing MIUI or CM7. Any other GB ROM and you will. Good luck!

I went with sensation by crysis. Love it and the battery, just hate how in 2.3.4 it auto stops charging wen full

Also this is a little noob of me but I am just not sure.. when flashing a rom say any rom. it flashes a new kernel as well right than I can change my kernel if I want, right? also what about the modem? do i have to flash that back to stock too?

When you flash back to stock, it will restore stock modem and kernel as well. Most ROMs include a modem and kernel so you won't have to change them seperately. If you do want something different than what flashed with the ROM it can easily be flashed over top. Hope that made sense. It's early.
Okay well I got that done and i had some issues but got it done. than when i tried to reroot and what not now i am having an issue i can fix. i did get nerov1 installed but now my superuser crashes and i can't do anything with root. like install the camera fix. I;m not sure it might be related to the fact that when i try to reboot to recovery I get the stock recover than when i click reinstall packages it does the same thing it did when i rooted or at least tries.. doesn't bring me to CWM just reboots and thats that.

If your hardware is locked then you can't get into download mode and consequently not being able to go to stock. To know if you're hardware locked, take the SD card and SIM off, now insert back the battery while pressing the volume buttons and plugging in the USB cable. This should get you to the yellow download screen.
And yes, you don't have to be rooted to go back to stock 2.2, you can use Odin to and flash JK2.
Oh and yes you can unroot with superoneclick. I think there's an option there next to root if Im not mistaken.
Thx for replying fast.=)um if I use superoneclick to unroot sill it go back to stock 2.1 or cm7 the Tom I'm using nw?sry real noob here..just got my vibrant last week n screwed it.=_=
Is there any other way to downgrade/replace cwm 3 to 2 other then flash to stock?Thx really much.=D

For the thousand times, rooting/unrooting doesn't change whatever rom you're on. Regardless of what that maybe. If you do as per the guide you'll be ok, check the youtube video and do as he does, it aint rocket science.
Besides, JK2 aint called "Froyo that doesn't brick" for nothing
im stuck with the same probelm,
if i'll flash a 2.2 kernel on top will it restore/enable the option to flash other 2.2 roms using clockworkmod?

1. Have a 2.2 rom on your SD card
2. Download the file attached at the end.
3. Put it on your sd card
4. When you get to CWM, click apply update.zip from sd card, you should then find yourself in CWM 2.5.1.2 where you can flash 2.2 roms.

Downgrade to froyo

Hi, I'm currently on simply honey3.91 gingerbread...I flashed this rom specifically just to be able to use netflix but now it appears that the newest version works on froyo now.. how do I downgrade back to froyo? Froyo had working gps for me which I could never get to work consistently on gb...to have GPS and netflix working on my phone would be great!

Odin back to eclair, root, install rom manager, format sd-card (remove the external sd-card to avoid loosing important data) and flash froyo.

It's not going to be a problem. You may only be annoying by the I1900 when you boot your phone. Regarding formatting your sd-card, to cleanup the left over software components like voodoo folder and data. Re-installing the os on your phone is juts like re-installing os on your pc. Cleanup the left over junk may help saving space and other unforeseen complicated issues.

I have flashed bootloaders both ways. Nothing to worry about as long as you follow the steps. Works like a charm.

I'm thinking of doing this as I cannot seem to get a full workday with relatively light use out of GB right now.
Anyway... where can I find the bootloaders for Froyo and is there a guide to make sure I do this in the right order. I haven't had any issues with all the various flashes and odins that I have done so far, but with CM7 on board I know that it's quite a bit different now.
I tried using the XDA search for bootloaders and basically got this an other similar threads.
I read this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1117990 which looks like I already had stock bootloader, but I wasn't sure if that is correct.
Yeah, that's the right place. Just click on the "Froyo Bootloader Revert to Vibrant" link to download the original bootloaders. It should be a .tar file. Flash through Odin with the same steps, but just use the Froyo BL .tar instead of the GB one and BOOM!
In like tube socks!
Oh yeah... don't forget that the button combo for the GB bootloaders is different. It's just volume up + power.

[Q] HELP! i think i bricked my phone!

hi all,
i was trying to root my phone (samsung i717 with ICS leaked version).
I downloaded the usb drivers,
Got the phone into download mode,
Connected phone to PC with usb
phone was recognised and i was able to see the SAMSUNG USB Device in device manager
opened ODIN, selected the pda.tar file and clicked on start..
Everything was going fine i got all the success messages in ODIN, then my phone rebooted and then stuck on the SAMSUNG screen.
on my PC i see USB drivers trying to be installed and fails.. i dont understand where to go from here.. i tried several time, but keep getting stuck at this point
Please please let me know how i can get my phone back.. i am a newbie.. would really appreciate a link or something that has step by step instructions so i dont mess it up further..
Thanks all..

hi, thanks for your responses.
but as i said i am new to all this, and although i have a basic idea about what you are asking me to do, i would really really appreciate it if some one can send me a link or step by step instruction on what i have to do..
i am very familliar with getting my phone in download mode. And also have odin on my PC.. but i am guessing i have to use a different Tar file to flash stock (right?)
if my above guess is right, i think i will be stuck with the same issue where i select the tar file and click on "start'" in odin and everthing goes well until the phone is rebooted and after that for some reason my PC cant find the usb drives and doesnot recognise my phone..
sorry if i am asking silly questions,. but this is my first android phone (smart phone actually..) and my first attempt at upgrade / rooting
hi,
MY PHONE IS BACK!!!
i followed all the instruction to the T in the following link:
http://rootgalaxynote.com/galaxy-no...brick-att-galaxy-note-sgh-i717-android-2-3-6/
Thanks all for your time and suggestions..
Now that i have lost all my data i guess i can do some more "testing"
Congratulations and happy testing!!!
thanks..
i flashed stock rom, then rooted it (this time i was sucessful)
then installed CWM touch, made a backup,
Installed titanium backup, made backup again..
next step is to install the "OnlyOne HYFR B4" rom
Then to try and reset the flash counter
hope i am sucessful at this..
any other ROM recomendations?
glad to see you got it working..happy flashing homey!!!
Sounds like you didn't wait until your system files and dalvik cache was built b4 you jumped the fun and freaked out. Next time realize that after a ROM flash it could take up to 10 minutes to build the system and all you'll see is the pulsating Samsung logo.

Is that how you did it? I guess I'll need to keep CM7 in the sdcard
It's been awhile, how about the step from stock JFD to recovery before you can in stall CM7? Is it put update.zip and 3 fingers reboot to install it? Or there is some other slicker way?
first odin to stock
copy root.zip
enter recovery and reinstall packages and again reinstall packages
then u will enter cwm from there flash cm7 which is copied in your sd card
after flashing allow it for some time to settle down
flash gb bootloader
later copy cm10 files .....if u want any other jelly bean rom it is advised to flash ics then jb
flash cm 10 that's it.........
if u have froyo bootloader then use 3 button combo and gb bootloader 2 button combo.........here is the link for any assistance
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1117990
These are good safe steps. Only thing I would recommend is flash GB boots before cm7.

I believe that when you flash CM7 it flashes the GB bootloaders. At least that was my assumption. Once I achieved root and super user, I followed the same steps of wiping, using kernel cleaning script and flashing CM7, then Helly Bean, wiping and formatting in between roms of course.
