[Q] SGT 10.1 P7500 - ES file explorer fail - Galaxy Tab 10.1 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi,
I have been using ES file explorer successfully on my tab during the last weeks. Then today is seems like it will not scan in the lan section.
Before it worked like a charm and showed all my shares - also on different network.
I tried unistall and install again - still not working. Tried to delete cache - no effect. My shares are working - i can access all of them from my SGS II via ES file explorer.
Any suggestion for having it working again?????????? or ither having same problem???

Unfortunately ES File Explorer is not deigned for honeycomb. I think its pathetic that there isnt even one tablet app available for accessing network shares. Its really sad.

[Q] Using Wifi file explorer pro - HELP!

I've just downloaded the Wifi file explorer pro app to transfer video files ONTO my 10.1 but am at a loss how on earth this is done
i've tried to upload the file to my directory on the mac but if I simply choose download it just downloads to my mac...I can't see a way of tranferring the data onto the tab itself.
If anyone uses this app, can they please post a step by step dummy's guide so I can get data onto the tab!
Thanks!!
Run the app on the Tab. It will give you a weblink to whatever IP address your Tab is using on the network and a port (example: 192.168.1.134:4567) or something like that. Run that in a browser on a computer that is on the same network
It should give you a files/folders interface and you should be able to see the directory tree of the tab in this browser window. If you navigate to where you want to put your files (example, the Movies folder), there should be a button on the lower right called upload. Navigate to the file to upload to your tab. Then you need to hit the "Start upload" button that is just below where you select the file. If it's a large file, you may have to wait a bit.
Hope this helps.
Thanks but it won't work...it'll update what i have on my tab (I renamed a few files) but try as i might, it wont' actually transfer files from my mac to the tab just vice versa.
I've bought the usb adaptor and that's worked fine in getting data on to the tap without any issues so far, so at least there's a work around.
That's weird. The same setup works fine on my Mac. Are you running Snow Leopard or Lion? That may have something to do with it

WPA Supplicant full compatible with 2.3.5 and ad hoc networks

NEEDS ROOT!
Here it is a compatible wpa_supplicant for 2.3.5
tested and working with yp g70 2.3.5 and x10 mini 2.1 with barnacle.
Probably it works with symbian (joikuspot) and windows 6.5 wifi tethering
don’t forgot to backup your original wpa_supplicant file!!!
Transfer the wpa_supplicant file to your phone SD card.
Now copy wpa_supplicant file to /system/bin folder using root explorer (select R/W read and write)
reboot and test it!
thanks
this work in galaxy s2 now i can use adhoc

Nice. This works on my Galaxy S2 running AndroidMeda 4.47 with an adhoc wifi hosted off my Ubuntu laptop.
Btw tapioco2000 can you tell how you got hold of this file, just to know the source a sensitive binary I am running after all that CareerIQ hooplah?
When I tried this is broke my WiFi for my device (Samsung Galaxy Player 5.0), I was able to fix it by returning the original file though.
Any reason why it didn't work ? =(
Ad-hoc support is very, very important to me in order to have my SGP functioning to my needs.
Thanks!

great!
It works very well with (G70 - 2.3.5 - root) and (C6 Nokia - JoikuSpot).
thanks tapioco2000
Tried it again and it worked! Not sure why it didn't the first time, but it's working smoothly. Now I can connect my Galaxy Player 5 anywhere I go... rather tedious but possible now =)
(I tether my non-smartphone to my iPod Touch via Bluetooth, then output the 3G connection through the iPod Touch's wireless as an adhoc connection)
Now just need to find a way to tether my non-smartphone to the Galaxy directly as I do with iBluever on my iPod touch.

Ibluever is a great app.
If you have an android phone (with minimum 2.2) you could try Autotether, it's similar to ibluever, but it works only with android.

If the original file isn't working I think you have wifi problem not depending on wpa_supplicant
Huawei Ideos x3
Just to let you know, I am desperately seeking a solution to adhoc connectivity, so I tried your supplicant file on my rooted Huawei (U8510) Ideos X3 (gingerbread 2.3.5) with high hopes...
Unfortunately - no joy (wifi scanning finds no access points and shuts itself off after a few seconds)... Any idea why please?
(I haven't "broken" anything, it was no problem to restore a backup of the wpa file... so - no panic!)
How do I go about tweaking this wpa_supplicant file myself? (I may be a n00b on this forum, but i'm a chap with 30 years in the industry.... C++, HTML, PHP, Vis. Basic etc... ALL the usual suspects )
I greatly appreciate ANY light anyone can shed on this issue (in advance)...

I'm going to assume this is the problem...
Click on your wpa_supplicant file, go to properties (I'd suggest doing this on the device itself) and enable R/W/X for the file. Make sure ALL of them are enabled. (Read, Write, Executable).
Let me know if this solves your issue!

I had already tried CHMODing the file, but followed your advice anyway and recopied the file applying a CHMOD 777 (ALL), to no avail - same result as before...
(but thanks anyway)

If you haven't modified anything else... using the original file + allowing R/W/X should fix it 100%. I even "broke it" to where it wouldn't stay enabled for more than like 5 seconds to test it. Try editing it with ES Explorer and make sure your in the right directory as there are multiple wpa_supplicant files throughout the root of the device.

I find it is no problem to replace my original wpa_supplicant file over these modified ones, restoring my original functionality, making nearby protected hotspots visible again...
Furthermore, this file should be going to /system/bin/ I believe?
I use ES explorer (nice) but couldn't edit either the original supplicant file, nor subsequent versions on my handset.... maybe on a pc? But - what am I looking for within the file?
What to edit?
this works on my galaxy s also

[Q] File Expert cannot access dropbox

I have been using file expert long time. I am very like it.But somehow after updating to 5.0.0, the Dropbox can not access anymore. It bring browser app and open an authorize page. Click allow button, it stuck on this page forever.
Back to 4.2.9, it is working.
I stopped using File Expert, the prompts for upgrading to pro and follow me on twitter/fb got annoying. Root access also got removed from the free version a while ago. I switched to ES File Explorer and it does the job much better.

[Q] [Help] Music Player wont recognize mp3s after wlan transfer via es file explorer

Hello,
since I really like the idea of easy file transfer via wlan using the es file explorer i stumbled across a proplem:
Data (mp3s, images etc) transferred via USB data cable is recognized by any related apps like music player/albums immediately, while
files that I copy to the sd-card via wlan and es file explorer can be found and played using the explorer, but wont be recognized by the media apps.
After searching for a solution for a little while i tried:
-media rescans using apps, both rooted or unrooted versions. tried that several times rebooting the phone a couple of times. Also i let the rescan take its time over night. so no rushing here...
-searching the infamous .nomeda-file in the folder where the music is, which I couldnt find and therefore couldnt erase.
NONE OF THE ABOVE SOLVED THE ISSUE
I would really appreciate any suggestions since i do like to take advantage of es file explorers convenience.
Thanks for any thought in advance!
try this app...
it works for me.

I allready tried that with that and a couple of different apps but haven't been able to solve my problem.
Deleting the app-cache in settings->apps->walkman didn't help either...
Sometimes Walkman recognizes the file but wont play it when selected...

u need root for this.
install terminal Android Terminal Google Play Link
now run the following command in terminal
to enable media scan on boot
Code:
su
pm enable com.android.providers.media/com.android.providers.media.MediaScannerReceiver
to disable media scan on boot
Code:
su
pm disable com.android.providers.media/com.android.providers.media.MediaScannerReceiver
i found this on Enable Media Scanner on Boot
This is what this app does, I assume
Its the root version of the media scanner activator. Didn't help. In fact it messed up one time and all my mediafiles showed up twice in mediaplayer, except the files that were transferred via wlan. That could be resolved by deleting app-cache.
But thanks for your help anyway!
the problem im having is if you use that application and you disable mediascanner then when you try to open the gallery or music player all your stuff is gone, because the MEDIA STORE application is DISABLED. so how can we fix this. because if i enable MEDIA STORAGE it eats like 50% CPU and never stops.
