[Q] Eris to WHAT?! - Android Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I currently own an Eris, I also get an upgrade at the end of the month. I was thinking of getting the thunderbolt, but I have swaying emotions about it. What does XDA think I should get? (without breaking contract)

Wait for the Bionic.

Razr(GSM) vs Photon

Hi all.
Im gonna to ask razr users, especially who moved from photon.
I'm looking for a kind of possible upgrade to razr, but not even sure if I need it.
Photon is very good device, but I want to know some more opinions. Also, where better to buy razr xt910 talking about updates?
Thanks
And is there possibility of getting razr maxx GSM?
Since battery is not quick switch like photon.

[Q] trade, anyone interested in a rezound verizon wireless for razr or galaxy nexus

Anyone interested in trading for a verizon wireless htc rezound, comes with extra htc battery, and commuter otterbox case
good esn, phone in mint condition
interested in
verizon 4g lte
razr, samsung galaxy nexus, razr maxx, willing to add money to deal
rezound is running latest ruu
Why don't you want the Rezound? It is better than what you are looking to get back. Just wait until next week, you are getting ICS real soon, probably end of this week. You have no idea how fast your phone will be. The Rezound was made for ICS, Gingerbread does not do the dual core hardware justice. Be patient.
Moto phones are not very good, and Samsung has a nasty habit of not following through with fixes.
If anything, wait until end of this month, the Incredible 4g should drop Apr 26. That would actually be an upgrade.

HTC Support: ICS @ End of July

Link
Be skeptical of course, since this is coming from a support email instead of an official statement by HTC.
I just love how HTC completely gives everyone the run around. We were supposed to have ICS months ago. Thank god the devs were able to give us awesome stable ICS roms literally months before this OTA.

I wouldn't blame it entirely on HTC. No way was Vzw about to let an HTC device get an ICS update before the RAZR.

Yeah, my blame should have been toward Verizon mostly. I really do hate Verizon between forcing us off our grandfathered plans, loading their phones with bloat and delaying updates.
I'm most likely waiting till the new iPhone and new Nexus devices come out (later this year most likely) and then buy one outright and hand my phone to my mother so we can stay on unlimited data. Nexus because of AOSP, iPhone because Apple usually gets what Apple wants and doesn't let the carriers load their phones with rubbish (Same with the nexus).

Exactly. Also they wouldnt let it get ICS before the HTC Incredible 4G LTE came out. That is their new top of the line HTC phone they sell. If the Rezound had ICS it would be more desirable than it because of the HD screen.

Then I would get an iPhone. I'm waiting for both to drop before I make my decision. I'm either going to end up with a no fooling around Nexus that does not come preloaded with VZNavigator, Golf, NFS, Blockbuster and whatever other guff Verizon chooses to put on the device or an iPhone.
Highly doubt Verizon will want the next Nexus considering it stands against everything they stand for and they dragged their feet with the GNex.

If Verizon doesn't have the next Nexus then I'm switching carriers, I'm tired of their bull****.

I'm switching carriers either way at least when my contract ends. Im not going to buy a phone full price and sure as hell not going to fall into their share everything plan.

All carriers have their drawbacks. The only one I would consider it would be at&t because you can use most any gsm phone.

Try telling that to AT&T's support people. I have a co-worker who has been dealing with them for a week because they dropped her data plan when she got a Galaxy Nexus (unlocked) to replace her Atrix which got stolen. Their system doesn't recognize the phone, so it apparently refuses to let them set it up with a smartphone data plan. I told her she should try going into the store and see if they can fix it (and refuse to leave until it is).
I ran into something similar when I was with them a couple of years ago. I bought an unlocked Nokia E63 (technically a smartphone), but their system insisted on letting me keep my $30 unlimited data + text plan at the time, instead of making me upgrade to more expensive separate data and text messaging plans. I'm guessing in order to force people who get smartphones onto smartphone plans, they have to program their billing system to know which phones are considered smartphones. If you bring your own device, it throws a monkey wrench into that process. The US carriers take a good idea (portability, which is inherent in the way GSM works) and completely screw it up.

I'm in the same boat. I might just sell my Rezound on Craigslist and buy a nexus.

I just wanna defend HTC here. If I remember correctly, June-July was the estimate HTC officially gave us. Somebody done lied to you, son.

Yeah I guess if they wait until the end of july to give us ICS then JellyBean will be just our of reach... what a shock.

That's what I am thinking as well. I really like the sound of T-Mobile's $30 a month plan.
I already switched to AT&T. Sold the rezound and picked up a one x. cheaper bill, and same service? Yup!

When the Rezound came out, HTC announced that the Rezound would one of the first phones to receive ICS in I believe January or February. That was later changed to Mayish and then changed to July. Granted this is likely Verizon's fault but its still unfortunate that HTC has to bend to Verizon's will when Google and Apple basically say **** you to them which is why I'm likely going to either the iPhone or next Nexus depending on which hardware is more enticing.

upgrading

Well i wanted to keep my unlimited data and noticed i could upgrade and keep it through bestbuy so i jumped on a S5. Never had a Samsung was going to get new Maxx but no root yet. Hope there as easy to work with as the razrs as far as roms. Anyway thanks to everyone who has helped me!!
Well never mind they tried to get my unlimited data so back to the RAZR! My wife's data stayed intact though.

You could always upgrade the battery in your OG RAZR to a Maxx. I did it myself on mine.

The only way to keep your unlimited data is to 1) purchase a phone at full price through Verizon or a Verizon dealer or 2) Purchase a used-phone off ebay.
When I upgraded from my X2 to my OG RAZR MAXX, I purchased it off of eBay. Therefore, I was able to keep my unlimited data.
Then, when my RAZR MAXX battery decided to start swelling up, I took it into a Verizon dealer and they went ahead and swapped it out under warranty (even though it wasn't under warranty) and they replaced it with a RAZR HD. I still have my unlimited data and the HD I received was able to have it's bootloader unlocked, so I made out like a bandit.
I was really surprised that they swapped it out under warranty. I had told them it was out of warranty when I first came in and I just wanted to see what my options where. When the manager came out and looked at the phone, he said "replace it under warranty". I told him it was out of warranty and he said, "no problem. We'll replace it under warranty.".
Now that's customer service! :good:

Should I upgrade from 2.3.4 to 2.3.5

First, thanks for all of the help in rooting my Droid x2. Where I ended up was with 2.3.4 and the latest official update 45.621.10.MB810.Verizon.en.US. A few questions:
1. Should I update to 2.3.5?
2. If so, how do I do that? I understand that I may lose my root, which is concerning considering the trouble I had gaining it in the first place. (I have the update downloaded to my phone.)
Thank you in advance,
CheapDad

Very little reason to update the Droid X2 to 2.3.5, there is no 2.3.5 for the Droid X

I purchased this phone from eBay and understood I was getting an x2. I only paid about $50, but did I get snickered on the model?
As a PS, I refreshed the firmware to be able to root. Is it possible I used the wrong firmware?
Snickered
Go to Settings/About Phone/Model number. It will say Droid X2 if it is one. $50 for a Droid X is too too much; for a Droid X2 you could have done better, I have been buying them for about $25.
The Droid X and the Droid X2 are getting dated. I rooted mine and tried all the roms (Liberty, Molten, Eclipse 2.3.5, CM7, CM10) All have their ups and downs. Eclipse was the best for me. I sold about 10 X2 phones on Ebay with CM10. It was a headache, flashed most of them back to Eclipse 2.3.5. Android 4.x (CM9, CM10) is problematic; Netflix doesn't work, video camera doesn't work, won't go into deep sleep. Eclipse is a solid rom.
Suggest if you were suppose to get a X2 and they gave you an X, complain to Ebay and get your money back. Go to Boost Mobile, port your number to get a new Moto G for FREE with a $40 Unlimited subscription for one month. After a month, decide if Boost is for you, if not, flash it to Verizon and used it on Page Plus or Straight Talk. FYI- Verizon's Moto G will not work on Page Plus.
I liked my Droid X2 but it was a lot of trouble getting it to where I liked it.

It is not possible to install wrong firmware.
If the phone has a camera button, it is a droid X, the X2 has no camera button.
Otherwise they are identical on the outside.
The droid x2 never really lived up to it's potential, software was always lacking, stock and custom.
