So I have spent all week looking for a way to get the screen off animation (old tv style) on my Thunderbolt and came up empty handed...until today! the only thing that even remotely does what i want is an app thats called screen off and lock. This app will play the screen animation and then lock your phone. now i know that everyone is saying that the screen off ani cant be done on froyo unless you're using a senseless ROM (like CM7) but if this app can sort of do it, is there a dev that can make this app work by actually pushing the power button? Any help would be appreciated.
I would LOVE if someone could get this working on froyo too!
You See That Is An App.. It Has Nothing To Do With The System And Animations, There Is No Possible Way To Do it :\
Yea i know...It was pretty much wishful thinking but thought i would ask. Guess Im gonna have to go to CM7 to get my fix until GB comes out for the TB. The app is ok but who the hell wants to go back to there home screen every time just to see an animation
Iv been switching from CM7 to Bamf and vice versa lately for testing. And I really miss that lol. I loved showing it to everyone and theyd all be like :OOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO
i have already done a few things to the stock ROM like put the "HTC quietly rooted" boot animation and the down animation is the old tv turning off with static first then very similar to GB screen off. while that gets me the "OOOOOOOOO" that i want from people, i hate having to power cycle my phone to do it cause using swype i have to then switch to touch keyboard then back to swype. that becomes a pain in the ()()
Id pay a buck
just saying

I haven't had any luck changing the down animation....any suggestions?

**I posted the question there with some more details (I don't want to take over this thread).**
I have a down animation that's great if you want it (i explain it in the OP) if you want it let me know. Just a brief description on how to change your down animation:
Get a root explorer
Go to system/media
Paste new down animation in this folder
Done
I always recommend copying the original down animation in case you don't like the new one
The quietly rooted screen sounds fun. Any way that can be made into a flammable zip and posted?
I got it from another thread. The link is below

It's not all that special just so you know, it actually gets quite irritating after a few days... but if you want it, why dont you just use CM7 than. CM7 or any AOSP ROM is leagues better than anything Sense-based, except possibly Myn's Warm

Been a long time since I tried anything with sense. I had the n1 which I loved but just trying to give sense a try. I have cm7 which I flash to when I need an AOSP fix. Just trying to find a nice blend.

Ok thanks for the info. I knew you could change it via a root explorer, but I'm partial to using adb (which would be great if i was successful lol).
Dcnbullet, could you please upload that crt downanimation, w/ instructions on how to install it?
Thanks!

Download and move zip file into /system/media using root explorer or equivalent (change the name of the original downanimation.zip file or copy it somewhere first so you can go back to it if you want). Then change permissions to rw-r--r--
Looks awesome!
Thanks!

What does this down animation actually do? I put it in the media spot and when I turn my screen off I get nothing? I did set permissions
So I thought this boot animation was pretty cool... I did a quick port for the Atrix Screen size (540x960), and it looks good. However, it needs some sound badly.
Thought I would post it here and someone could get some sound rocking on this thing. I take no credit for this, all I did was port the screen size for our device.
Here is a video of the animation:

LOVE IT! Anything that has to do with the destruction of that stupid fruit, I'm all for - that "barber" boot animation was just too.... TAME.... for me!
Good luck on getting sound for it, that would be pretty awesome!
Nice boot animation! Thanks!

How to install?
I noticed you are on Gingerbread is this for 2.3.4? And do you copy/paste into sytem/media folder or do use unlocked CWM to flash?

Boot animations should work on any build. However, if they have sound, you have to be careful about which build it is installed on.

I have some ideas for the sound and will attempt them tomorrow. Ill post a link to the mp3 and adobe audition files in case someone else with audition wants to edit it.

Was this supposed to be placed into /system/media and renamed, or simply flashed with CWM?
I executed the former approach, and had no results.
Killer animation though. Looking forward to getting it to work.
Do u cmw flash this?

Yes, the zip is set up for CWM flashing.

There's a few other ports on lower screen rez, floating around the internet and youtube... this is as close as I got to an original source: http://dev.nsbtt.com/android/bootanimations/
I found the perfect audio file for this animation, but for some reason the audio on anything I do is cutting off really short, well before the boot up is finished. I am wondering if there is a maximum play time for audio in the notifications folder.
any news?! I love this bootanimation

I made some nice sound fx for this video
Okay, got the desc file working, but theres a couple of issues
first off, the sound starts off a little ahead at first, then the animation catches up,
second of all about 3/4 of the way through the boot the sound gets really low for some reason, so its harder to hear, maybe once i get to my real computer I can edit the mp3 to be louder after that point, but heres the mp3 and edited desc file:
just unzip, replace the desc.txt file in the original bootanimation.zip with the one in this archive
then add the bootfx.mp3 (unzipped) to your /system/media folder via root explorer
... any way someone could put instructions as to exactly how to install this, along with the sound effects, using CWM? Kinda new to the whole thing, really....
when i flash it with cmw it says installation aborted why

You are probably on the wrong version of Tenfars CWM.
Which version are you using?
Added the audio to this boot animation:
http://www.mediafire.com/?rcy6jrlffgu5rrn
I cannot test as I am trying out CM7 pre-beta4 right now, and as far as I know CM does not support animation audio. If anyone tries it, please let the rest of us know if it works OK.
Cheers!
Any devs out there can help me out with this i really appreciate it. I have been learning more and working on my own roms.
Mostly doing themed and Apps, well my question is what file can cause the rom after installing to only show black display with capacitive buttons lit.
It installs fine and boot animation works fine, then when charging light come on capacitive lights come on, then screen turns black.

I've had that happen to me, too. I try to do my edits is smaller increments now. LOL
I think it happened when I added scripts to the init.d folder or edited the build prop. Also, it happened when I deleted some stuff out of the Rosie.
Maybe this narrows it down for you. I do always keep the last working ROM on my desktop, just in case ...
Thanks. Yea I usually save the last working as well. It's just a pain flashing over and over.

Have you tested this with the Streak? I've been looking for a good boot animation and I like the easy this one looks.

Thanks Chris! Of course the N1 version of this needs edited to run full screen on the Streak's sideways / upside down screen
Link forthcoming...
...and here it is. Edited for full screen Streak 5 glory (and Streak 7 too I suppose).
I don't need to post instructions for copying this into /data/local and rename bootanimation.zip, do I? ...guess I just did!
Video courtesy of grasshoxda
thanks , I knew you someone would fix it.. I've been very busy lately.
Can we see a teaser vid on the Streak??

Absolutely dazzling on Streak7 thanks nick
Maybe it's just the ROM I'm using but my animation doesn't last more than 2-3 seconds.

Not sure. It is set to loop the animation after 76 frames and run at 24fps. Maybe try deleting from /data/local and copy into /system/media instead *(requires root)
Nice. Very nice. Gonna try it. Thanks

Only lasts a few seconds and stops. Not looping for me. Copied into system/media.

I'm making a new boot animation and my device takes 24.5 seconds from the first frame of the animation to the lock screen. What's the frame rate I should use and how many frames should I use?
Thanks!

I just made one a few days ago and I went with 24 as my framerate. You can use up to 30 if you want, that just means you'll have more.jpg's or.png's; therefore, a larger.zip file. My boot animation is approximately 10 seconds long. I just set it to loop. Let me know if you have other questions, bro. (Obviously, I have about 240 frames and I used jpg's as they're smaller than png's).
Edit: after playing with the boot animation I made some more, I've found using 30fps keeps the framerate stable. I created it using adobe after effects in 24fps, so I tried to use 24 for the boot anno on my device as well. We found that it slowed down my animation and messed up the timing.

So I'm going to want around 700ish frames for a 30fps framerate and a 24 second long boot animation?

I would personally make it shorter than the full 24 seconds. Maybe a 15 second boot animation and just loop it. That will keep the file size down. I'm a little surprised you have that long of a boot cycle. I'm on SHOstock2 v6.2 and if my boot ani were any longer than it is (15 seconds, max) it wouldn't finish. Of course a few seconds are used showing the Siyah logo before mine starts...
If you need any help let me know.

24 seconds is the time the Semi v18 boot animation is displayed. Doesn't include the kernel splash time... btw, does anybody know how to change that?
edit: Yes, I was going to loop it. First part is an 11-frame fade-in of an object, then the second part is the object rotating. That's 19 frames.

What program are you using for your frames? Are you drawing them individually? I use Adobe Fireworks or After Effects. Try to find animation software like that which gives the option to save as individual frames. Makes things much easier! I think Blender is free...I'm willing to help if you want.
