[Tip] Add HTC Sense Folders - HTC EVO 3D

I have recently been playing around with my phone and discovered that with HTC Sense, you can create folders similar to iOS. These folder can be placed anywhere on the homescreen and you can drag apps into them. You can open the folder to view or open the apps that you dragged in the folders.
I don't know how many people know about, but I don't think it is common knowledge or an obvious feature.
To add a folder to your homescreen:
1) Go to the personalize menu
2) Go down to the folders section
3) Press 'New Folder'
4) Drag the newly created folder to anywhere on your homescreen
To rename the added folder:
Note: Sometimes this is buggy and doesn't rename the label.
1) Open the folder
2) On the top of the folder where it says "New Folder," long press. A menu to rename it should come up
3) Rename it
4) Confirm
5) The folder should be renamed
These folders can be pretty useful to help navigate to certain apps, clear up clutter, make everything neater, etc.
Screenshots of what folders look like:

Useful feature but its been around since donut? May be even since android 1.6

Nice try, but this is like one of the oldest features ever. You may not get many nice responses in this thread.

Alright, I'm glad you created this thread, because I've discovered the same kind of cool trick (ala 'Easteregg') with Sense 3.0:
You may not have noticed, but you now have something called 'Market' is your list of applications (trust me, it's there.):
If you click this EXACTLY one time, a portal will open, prompting you to enter your gmail account and password. If you do this EXACTLY right, a Sense feature will be unlocked that will allow you to install a whole slew of new applications DIRECTLY to your phone (kind of like itunes). There are TENS of custom apps available that you will want to try out. In fact, I wrote one of them myself: a little game/(time-killer) called 'Angry Birds', which is available right now for FREE.
(If you enjoy my little game, please hit my 'thanks' button.)
EDIT: Pics (as proof).
The "Market" (if you did it right) looks like this:
In game pic from the 'bird game':
(PROTIP: Try to knock down the 'pigs'.)
Let me know if this Easteregg works for anyone else.

not really like iOS folders b/c it doesn't show the small icons of each app inside on the folder icon. I highly suggest smarter shortcuts b/c of its customization it offers.

I would thank, if this was a feature to add a folder in the app drawer. But I was doing this with my Hero back in the day.

Clearly everyone that visits this forum has had an HTC Android phone from the beginning. There's no possible way that there is even one person who didn't know about the folder option.
I'd noticed the folder option a few times but never really looked into it. The OP shed some light on something that not everyone may have played with yet and he's been burned at the stake for it.
And we wonder why general people and devs are leaving XDA.
Sent from my PG86100 using Tapatalk

Sheese people are so mean and I thought Apple fanboys were bad.
I too never played with the folder. I've seen it but never tried it until today. Thanks OP.

Actually, Sense greatly extends the inventory of possible applications and intents available to this Android feature. Beforehand you all go and dismiss the OP, I invite you to take a closer look at the different shortcuts and application settings that you can place in a folder.
If you haven't tried it you shouldn't knock it. Try my Motorola Photon... it has none of this. In fact the feature set is actually reduced over stock Android.
Thanks OP for reminding us of this.

I don't know what it is about posting on here but my browser crashes each time I write something thorough. :|
Any who to be short and save myself from tossing this computer I've been talking with the Dev of Handcent [it's a sms/mms application] about making an experimental new build with a new UI.
I like using handcent because it shows the users photo next to there name and sub text underneath it from the last message sent.
And my idea for a new UI falls along the lines of the dev of Buka and Totem? And recently Radiant. At the home screen it has a gallery button and it has a sliding UI similar to the Ipod touch album chooser and HTC Hero's Album chooser as well.
What the Idea is it to make the contact photo like the album, and then place the users text underneath it.
I drew my own crude version of it below, [this is why I'm asking if you're good at photo shop, I clearly don't have the first hint on using it.] and I'll include the Ipod touch's UI

}
And just for some talk back what do you guys thing about this idea?
I personally see it like this:
Slide to select the users photo, then when it's set and locked on the user text falls down in an animated way then piles up correctly like the threaded text does.
Then to view someone else you'd select the photo and here is where my idea splits.
I'm not too sure if I'd like the screen to rotate in a 3d square like motion or just slide like the album covers.
Of course I know there's plenty work to be had about this and it would take a lot of CPU and for good contact photos it would have to be a place in handcent to assign them and not based off of the Google image you have since that can only be blown up and that makes it blurry.
And of course I am not a dev at all!
So if you'd like to make this image I'd appreciate it :]
And mind you the proportions of portrait and landscape.
And so far here is the work of some friends and forum people that have helped me along with this idea.

well you made me smile. lol but i think that would be a really nice ui. hope to see it up here on the forums sometime soon!

I think thats actually a pretty cool idea for a messaging UI. I'll try to draft something up as well but one thing I would like to point out in the development of this is to also have an option for list selection. While this is cool for one or two conversations, if you have to scroll through many it "could" be annoying depending on how smooth the sliding between photos goes. Awesome idea anyway. I cant wait to see it.
I'm lovin the drawing. You should just use that

Well now that I have more time to type.
In my orginal email to the dev I also throgh that in as well.
I thought about it like how Google maps has the list selection at the bottom left corner.
But overall I think we all could be productive here and help the dev with a guideline of how we see it and be supportive :]
Or maybe he'll read here and pick and choose.
i removed the app tab because i realized its not supposed to be there lol
Here is my mock-up. I chose to do it in like the hand-drawn example above, with chat-room style texts instead of bubbles.

all i have to say to that is... damn that looks amazing... i still thought the paper ui was a good one though, and that font man, that font.
but for real hettbeans, that is amazing and i would use whichever app implements that idea.
also to the ones designing this, you should pm or somehow alert rvg151 (the guy with the modded mms.apk) to this thread, and see if he can incorporate something like this into the standard mms.apk. that would be killer.

Well aside from getting that particular dev to do this, why not start an XDA project to see if any devs are interested in implementing that UI on a new sms app. It doesn't seem like the UI will see the light of day unless someone makes it happen. I gotta admit, its a shame since I do like the mockup UI created by hettbeans even though I'm not really a fan of iphone-esque design of coverflow.

Both of you guys, go download the Buka game demo and go to that gallery option and tell me if that can be implemented/was made for a messaging app you wouldn't want it lol.
I don't like the Iphone style either but when I saw it in that game and the color scheme I thought of Handcent and how awesome it would be.

I'm a big fan of UI uniformity. I think the proper thing to do would just be a row of side-scrolling thumbnils like what the Market used to have.

A pretty cool launcher idea, me thinks. Tower launcher.

Alright, so I did this mock-up to explain:
{
"lightbox_close": "Close",
"lightbox_next": "Next",
"lightbox_previous": "Previous",
"lightbox_error": "The requested content cannot be loaded. Please try again later.",
"lightbox_start_slideshow": "Start slideshow",
"lightbox_stop_slideshow": "Stop slideshow",
"lightbox_full_screen": "Full screen",
"lightbox_thumbnails": "Thumbnails",
"lightbox_download": "Download",
"lightbox_share": "Share",
"lightbox_zoom": "Zoom",
"lightbox_new_window": "New window",
"lightbox_toggle_sidebar": "Toggle sidebar"
}
This is my idea of a pretty neat launcher. Let me explain.
It's a giant launcher where everything is made up of "panels" which is essentially what a widget would be normally, except instead of small icons and widgets making up a grid, you would rather make up this entire tower of "panels" you can scroll through like so:
Once you reach the bottom (like so), you have the option of adding or entering edit mode in which you can change the placement of panels, configure panels, or add more. Also notice the stationary panels at the top and bottom. I figure the top would could be configurable to look however you like or replaced with another replacement panel made for staying at the top at all times. (i.e. you can't replace it with a Last.FM panel, you would have to go about finding a panel that is absolutely meant to be at the top.)
I figure this could also be a pretty accessible thing for everyone in terms of making new panels. Someone would release the base panel code, and then people can configure it to do some pretty neat things, I figure.
I dunno, this just seemed kind of cool in my opinion. I can think of all sorts of panels and stuff like that too - a Favorites/Folder panel, gallery panel, music panel... etc.
Also, I threw this mock-up together pretty fast. I figure the Facebook and Twitter panels would have more to it, heh.
So whatcha think?
EDIT: On a side note, what I was imagining isn't really widget status where you can interact with it so much - you click on it or the link or whatever corresponds with whatever (i.e. you click on a tweet) and it brings you to where you need in order to comment on it or like it through FB and what not.
Hey man, first off, u may want to request this moved to the Apps section. I see the dev side of it but ppl around here get very picky about what should go where. Second, cool idea, im not much one for these kinds of home screens but some ppl like them and the more kinds out there the better.
You may want to check out slide screen from larva labs. sounds very similar.
I believe this is what WP7 is trying to achieve but failing short of it....
Your concept is wonderful (not exactly original because of WP7), but I still like it. To do this you will need some mad skillz with Java and change up the framework and re-organize the notifications/alerts/alarm aspects of the it.
Also the facebook/twitter integration will need to know how to communicate with each respective API.
yeah, this is going in themes & apps.
In the other thread I mentioned that uh, I'm not a developer for anything, let alone Android. I just threw this mock-up out there just as an idea.

The only problem I see is that a lot of widgets would need to be reinvented to fit the new panel system. I don't want to do what the W7 Launcher did and just place the widget in the middle of a box 'cause that... That doesn't look good.
Here's some ideas for panels I pulled out of my brain:

Unless maybe there was a way to remove the background of the widget or force fonts onto widgets, but then again I know nothing regarding the difficulty of this so... Yeah.
But then again, there could be like master panels that have the ability to be set to whatever music program you want from there.
That would minimize the amount of panels that needs to be made. A friends panel = Twitter, Facebook, etc. A music panel (Like Phantom Music Widget) = a lot of music apps. And then maybe a widget panel where if you configure it you can have it attempt to remove the background of the widget so it looks somewhat right on the panel. I dunno.
I dunno man but you have everyone dying to have this made haha

HUBS for Transformer Prime

Hey everyone! Hope you guys are enjoying your prime.
I've been very interested in HUBS for the android tablets and I've searched many places and some youtube tutorials but none of them seem to work 100%. I'm hoping someone can post a step by step tutorial on transformer prime ICS on how to make hubs for everyone who wants hubs on their prime.
Thanks!
P.S. I've looked around on the forums and I've found a couple hubs thread but none helped.
I'm not really sure what you're talking about as the threads I've looked at for hubs and the YouTube videos I've seen have been very informative. I set up a hubs layout the other week that I love. A few more tweaks and I'll be posting on the homescreens thread.
Perhaps you should be more specific as to what you've been having trouble with.
There is a topic, I think it's on the first page, with a awesome tutorial with lots of screenshots for ideias on original Transformer ''Themes and apps''

Holy crap this looks slick! And I thought spb had some nice eye candy. I'm def going to have to try this out. I wonder if there's a way to combine this layout with spb. You would lose the nice transition animations though which is a large part of the appeal.

Hey how did you get those app folders to pop up in the middle of the screen like that when you clicked those side icons?
One way to do it is to use folder organizer or app organizer, then use an invisible icon which you would place behind the widget. So when you touch the widget, you're really touching the icon underneath which brings up the apps. Hope that helps. Still trying to get mine all set up, very time consuming.

And here is the link for the whole album. I think I use some rather nice wallpapers. http://imgur.com/a/bJ106#0
For my personal use, I set it up with two things in mind.
It has to be functional. I'm an organization freak and so the different hubs would have to legitimately be useful and not just for design. For example, when I'm doing schoolwork The only things I see on my screen are applications I let myself use (and I further enforce this by combining Pomordroido and Tasker to kill any apps not seen on that screen).
Work well with two handed use. While it's kind of a moot point a majority of the time because my tablet is in the dock, when I do use it undocked I want to be able to access everything quickly. You'll notice that all of my buttons are on the left and right hand side of the screens, and all are clickable with either thumb, never having to lift my hand.
Apps I use to achieve this are ADW EX Launcher, Minimalistic Text, and Pure Calendar Widget.
I'll post a video of it sometime later; it's pretty slick. Funnily enough, I was already using the exact same transitions the guy in the video posted above used, so you already know how that looks.

Thanks,

Friend Stream is really kind of weird as with Task Manager. They are listed in Titanium Backup as apps so we know they are there, but there is no related application listed in the application launcher. They both may be embedded in another application somewhere. Kind of like what they do for the music app...open it and you'll see streaming radio etc.
It's still there. I can get to it through the twitter widget. It will even show FB. However, the combined widget seems to be removed for some reason.

Hmm. Doesn't seem to be working. I added it in to /system/app and I don't see anything. So I then changed permissions to mirror all of the other widgets and I still don't see it. For the heck of it I tried to install it but that didn't work either. Probably something simple I'm missing.

tbh? idk sounds like it should have worked...ill have out the first version of my stock rom tomorrow prolly, it ll be in there fwiw
So can someone share with me how to add this to the stock Droid Incredible 4G LTE ROM without rooting the phone? I might pick one up to test against my Rezound, and don't want to root the phone in case I decide to return it. I have a One X on AT&T right now (work phone), and my Rezound, and am testing a GSIII, which I am not overly impressed of. Really want the One X on Verizon, but we all know that isn't going to happen...

Hello Guys, I've searched through all threads about the friend stream, and there is not much documented on how to access it. A poster on this thread mentioned the Twitter Sense app. Another said that there is no dedicated app in the app tray to launch it, but it is there. HTC just made it hard to access. If the following had been mentioned before, I apologize, I did do a search, but found nothing.
From what I've figured, using the search function within the App Tray, came up with zero results. Using the Google search widget....I typed in "Friend Stream", and lo and behold, the app shows up (App icon being the two white silhouettes of people on a Blue background). Click on it and it is the Friend Stream app.
Access to Friend Stream is also imbedded in another widget. It is called the Social Clock. I accidentally stumbled into this while searching through the whole list of available widgets. It pretty much is the HTC signature clock, but without the date and weather. It is just the time and below the time, the most recent status update from your Facebook feed. Clicking on this part of the widget will get you into the Friend Stream app.
I hope that this helps. One of the great things I think a lot of people liked about the Friend Stream widget from before, was that you were able to update a status directly through the widget without going into a separate app, just right there on the widget. Another, is the unique tag that HTC phone users are given underneath their status update, letting people know that HTC Sense was used.
I might make a new thread, explaining these methods, so that many Inc 4G users will know how to do this, until a Rom makes the widget available or for those who choose to stay with the stock Rom. I'm getting the impression, that not many know of this and are just using the stock FB app. Lemme know if this works for you guys!
I would also be interested in knowing how to get the friendstream widget
Can anyone reccomend an app that offers a similar facebook/twitter widget?
Has anyone figured out how to get the widget back? That is my favorite part of FriendStream.
Thanks guys!
New Dinc 4Glte user missing frienstream widget. I was able to find it through the instructions from ColdWraith but HTC really??
Also, there is a Friendstream lock screen wallpaper. The widget is embedded on the lock screen. It only shows Facebook updates for me unlike the old widget which showed a combination of streams.

Themer for lg g3

Has anyone tested to see of it works? Mine were delivered but I won't get home to play until tonight.
Just got the attention of the Themer folks (others said "wasn't compatible" in their sub forums) and they said the have a LG G3 on the way for testing.
Time for a big update here.
Time for a big update here. I got home last night and played around with my new phone for a couple of hours.
Once it was done restoring apps I hit the home button and guess what, it had restored Themer from the market.
It works 100 perfectly fine. The only issue I had was trying to go in to choose a theme.
It kept giving me a pop up that my device wasn't supported. To get past that I hit OK and instead of hitting a category just clicked on the themes pane to the right. I was able to scroll down and select one, and install it, everything is perfect.
Do most items get themed? Can you post some pics?
I'm assuming you haven't used femur before? I'll post some pictures, it basically is a replacement launcher that has widgets and icons already built in, groups and everything else. It's one of the more impressive apps I've seen on Android.
This is the current theme I have on.

Please explain how did u bypass that? i have been trying to get a theme to choose
LOL
You just quoted to me on how to do it.
"Instead of hitting a category i just clicked on the themes pane to the right. I was able to scroll down and select one, and install it, everything is perfect"
So.
You try to click on categories and it gives you the popup. Hit OK or whatever to get rid of that screen, and click on the right hand side of the screen (you might be able to swipe).and you can access the list of themes and select one.
I found you CAN click on Exported, just not categories.
Here's another of my favorite themes on Themer.

ive never used the theme app. i dont supposed you have a link? i cant seem to find it?
thanks in advance
They have a sub forum here on xda-developers, but the app is available in the markets. It is not compatible with the g3 according to them, so u can't download it. I was only able to download it because I had it backed up from my previous phone.

Awesome idea dude. Themer. Outs a game changer, haven't taken it off of my phone or stored using it since it came out. What do you think about it?
The themes are great, but the customization is fantastic.

I don't know that I know what that is. I use the status bar double tap to turn off the screen.
the knock feature is the double to wake and double tap to sleep
little update
i managed to get double tap to sleep working with themer.
i installed this app https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.katecca.screenofflock
then went into themer settings, gestures and set a double tap to that app. works great

Good tip neckbonest. Got it working in my next launcher now. Thanks
How did you guys get themer to work on your G3 on lollipop. I can't get any themes to show in themes menu and when I download a theme from chrome and push it to the themes folder it wont show up! I'd love to be able to use themer.
