[Q] S2 rom Dev Quetions - Galaxy S II Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

i have one or two questions about custom roms and kernels, i was planning on making my own untill i found out how useful some of the app on the Stock S2 can be.
First of all i was wonder is there is a way to get polaris office on a custom rom, like does come in the rom its self or is it part of the kernel. Cause i do like that program very useful.
Second i am wondering about wifi-sharing the thing eats up battery fast, problem is i aint using my phone as a mobile hotspot and it just randomly starts up, so if i were to make a new rom would i be able to get rid of wifi sharing completely,
All other are welcome to ask any other question like these regarding the S2.

Polaris office is a part of the ROM not the Kernel. its a
APP!
wifi-sharing can be turned OFF!

All others are welcome to do this is in the Q&A section.

Sense rom?

Hello, I know this is a really stupid question and please if you find too stupid delete this thread or report it.
Here goes: Is there a slightest possibility to get a sense rom on the samsung galaxy s2? Since im used to my htc hd2 which runs many roms and Oses.
Thanks in advancE!!
Someone is working on it, search for the thread in the dev section.
No its nowhere near working, its not even booting at the moment.
And it probs wont be usable for a very long time.

[Q] To root or not to root

Not sure if this as been asked recently, but I have a question specifically for Intratech, I was wondering what you currently have running on your S2, ie xwki8 with touchwiz launcher or something else and is it rooted?

Don't you think a pm to intratech would have sufficed instead of this inane thread?
I never understood why someone won't root a device. It's 10 seconds process, besides absolutely nothing will be changed but you will have the root access, so why not do it! And if that query is addressed to a particular member then you should send him a PM instead of creating a thread!
Im my opinion it's worth rooting your device.
To keep as close to stock as possible use one of chainfires (cfroot) stock but rooted kernels. By using a cf kernel all should be as stock but you will get cwm, busybox and root.
Once rooted you can enjoy all the cool benefits of apps that require root like titanium backup, setCPU,etc, etc. Not to mention all the benefits of cwm like backups and flashing from your device, etc.
Just go for it.

Just thought I’d bring a happy end to this inane thread.
I finally managed to get some time to mod my phone, so its now rooted & running cyanogenmod 7.1, which despite been a massive improvement on the stock rom i used to have, is regularly giving me force closures, which are usually fixed by a quick search of xda, im goin preserve with it for a week or so in the hope that they do a update to blitz the bugs, if not then im thinking about giving miui a try until the modding community can get their hands on the source code and release a stable version of ICS.
Thanks for the advice 'aceofclubs' you’re a credit to this forum.
some people are too rude in their replies...Don't they think that not everyone is a geek in smartphones? I know that they will be zero or less than zero in my own subject or speciality...
If any one doesn't want to reply, then better not to reply instead of humiliating reply.

[Q] Cloning: How to?

Here's my dilema... My phone (Showcase) is having issues with the new CM7 and I wanted to see if it was possible to simply get a friend's un-rooted phone and do a direct clone of their Showcase to mine so that I have a working phone again. I'm getting super frustrated.
What would be awesome is a .tar for an ACS Showcase, but we Alaskan's are few and to find ones that mess with their phones is more difficult. So my hope is to just find someone's working phone and use theirs as a template to fix mine.
Please use the Q&A Forum for questions Thanks

[Solved] from Newb | What SGS3 do i have and

Hello,
i want to flash my Samsung device. It says at boot Samsung Galaxy S3 l9300 so i guess its an international with no branding.
But i am not sure and i wont do anything wrong. As far i could check for myself rooting+flashing is pretty easy i just want to make sure everything is good to go.
So please tell me how to check and thing.
Secondly, i dont ask you for the best rom/kernel but i ask you for some Roms with less preinstalled as possible but as much installed as needed.
e.g. its very subjectiv whats needed and what not so
i wont use google maps, video hub, mp3 hub and those social/sharing/web application.
The main goal why i want to flash my sgs3 is to maximize the battery as much as possible.
what i use daily:
Phone / E-mail / sms/mms / messenger / social networks (such as facebook, twitter but right now only fb) / Calendar / Contact / Weather / Alarm / Camera / file explorer / mp3 / cloudservice (such as dropbox) and but not so often this time but maybe more often in the future / news apps /
thats it. I really dont want to have all those ebooks/videohub/mp3/hub/flipboard and whatsoever. There are toooo much custom application i never would touch and some of them cant be deinstalled either.
Setting up the sgs3 with samsung and googlemail account should work properly...
Also i am not sure if i need the gmail application preinstalled. I want to use k-9 mail and i never touch gmail but i cant deinstall it.
I am unfortunately newb to it and i cant customize it myself that much but i am willing to install a less bloated Rom
Those are the two question:
What SGS3 do i have
What Rom could you suggest for as much as possible battery improvement/less consumption but still nice to have (i wont have an text base sgs3 like we know from linux itself not sure if that is even possible but i guess so xD)
Thank you for the time
regards

Please use google next time you have a question.
Anyway, doesn't "Modellnummer" tell you something?
If you are looking for a ROM less bloated browse through the forum and look for one yourself and see which one fits you better.

New to XDA also....sooooo.......you need to go to i9300 development and original development and read the Rom descriptions.
First you need to check XDA forum rules out.

What did i wrong? I posted in general becuz the forum rules say : if you are not sure where to post -> then post in general. Since i asked 2 different questions in once i wasnt that sure and thought the general section would be better.
Also i added the [Q] tag for question.
What else should i do?

Guys, i guess you are all professionals and also very sure what you guys do and what not to do. But as said, i am new to Android and even if i could do the researches by my own i would ask for confirm becuz please accept my apologuze for that but i wont do anything wrong !
Re: [Q] from Newb | What SGS3 do i have and
Ok, I'm going to be gentle on you......
Firstly, any help you get will be from people like me, ordinary users that have taken time to learn and then share knowledge.
The forum operates in various principals.
One of the fundamentals is that people read, read, read and learn...
Further to that using either Google or the forum search facility should preceed any posting of questions, as they have almost certainly been asked before.
Questions asking advice about Roms are nearly always considered as best Rom threads, which aren't allowed. The reasons for this are that every users needs are individual and also, from a developers point of view, it is no fun having your Rom compared to other people's Roms.
Just as an additional note, no one earns money from what they do here, it is just people sharing work they have done (in the same spirit as the principal of "open source"
So reread my first post to you, and follow the steps I advised, and you will become a good XDA user, as opposed to a bad one!

Read the rom descriptions yourself otherwise it is a what rom best rom post .
You are better to understand the basics before flashing or you may brick your phone .

[Q] Which ROM?

I have the international Galaxy SIII (UK edition) which I got about 15 months ago. It's running OK, but there are a couple of really irritating things about it.
1. It is SLOW. It can take 4-5 seconds for the phone screen to pop up (for example). Sometimes a bit quicker, but never instant. I have turned off all animation. Other apps are not too bad, but I really want to use it as a phone....
2. When it reboots, it always goes back to the basic keyboard. I like AI keyboard and want that as the default.
So, assuming there are no cures for the above (and if there are, please tell me), which ROM would you suggest I burn to make the system work as I want it to. I am not a stranger to rooting and updating (I've done my Nexus 7, Nexus 10 and a few Touchpads)
Thanks for any advice.
Alan
Which rom posts are not allowed, try them for yourself and decide.
There are solutions to your issues, the search function will help you find them.
Read the development forum and start with the rom you understand how to install first .
Mod Edit
"Best" ROM/kernel threads are not allowed on XDA.
Please test these things for yourself.
This is the only way you will get an unbiased opinion, and then, you can decide for yourself if it meets YOUR needs.
