I followed directions...? - Atrix 4G Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Downloaded "Version: 4.5.91 NO DOWNGRADE
Android Version: 2.3.4 NEW!" from here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1125944 and then downloaded RSD Lite 5.0 because 5.3.1 isnt installing on my machine for whatever reason. Entered RSD protocall, plugged in, and clicked start. Then after 5-8min it said flash failed and nothing has changed but at least the phone turned on!
Now is the USB connection supposed to be something specific because it was running in "none" before I powered off, also USB debugging was turned on. Should those have been different because didnt see anything about it in the directions?

did you unlock your bootloader.....?

No this is what I thought I had to do first before anything else? Is there anything that has it all in one shot? I can follow directions well and am very tech savvy but I cant tell what the hell is going on because there seems to be so many different sets of directions... Flashing roms on my HTC fuze was super easy, sometimes flashed 3-5 a day playing with stuff.
Thanks.

I would personally use this method but everyone has an opinion....LOL The RSD link should be one of the first links.

[Q] Returning an Eris to stock

I am attempting to return a phone to stock. Currently it has froyo on it which my brother installed (he's not here so I can't really have him undo it). This version of froyo is screwed up and I can't activate the phone with it on. I'm afraid of words like wipe the phone. Holding down the volume button and the send button doesn't do anything. It just reboots with froyo on it and I am then in the same situation as before. So it must be a firmware issue. My question is what do I need to do to set the phone back to stock. I found a forum on here that described how to do it kind of but it wasn't nearly simple enough for me and assumed you knew what things were, namely Amon_RA 1.6.2 and an SDK. Despite describing itself as a noob forum So if someone could take me through this assuming you were telling someone who has never done anything like this before that would be great. I am so frustrated by all this. I don't need a million apps but having a phone that I can text, call people, and use the internet on would be great. At that point I'm satisfied to leave it alone.
with the phone off: press and hold VOL DOWN + END CALL (red).
Does the phone do anything when you do that?
Have you read this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=792026 from start to finish?
Yes I did read that one. However, I don't understand what I'm doing. What is amon_ra? What am I installing it to? My phone or my computer. Yeah I've done what you suggested with the hold down the volume thing. That didn't do anything. I understand about installing the zip file on a micro sd and putting it in the phone however I don't understand much else. I'm trying really hard to figure it out myself but not having much luck pretty much I'm looking for step by step instructions for someone who hasn't even modded a phone before.
I answered a similar question here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=12171234#post12171234
My post in that thread will point you to a thread that has a walk-through of how to install a custom ROM after you have rooted. The custom ROM in the first thread (also the one referenced above) will have the effect of unrooting the phone and returning to stock when you flash it using the instructions in the thread at androidforums.com.

New Dell Streak Mini 5 User With ?'s For ROM Help Install?

Which is the best rom to go with?
I've downloaded _n0p_'s DSC v0.7 and Tenorntex's Longhorn 2.1 v2, seeing as these 2 were the newest and latest and had Android 2.3.3
Are there any other better rom's or has anyone tried the 2 I listed, if so whats the difference?
Thanks
Better is very vague when it comes to ROM's it all depends on what you want in a Rom. I have old Simple Streak 1.2. Yes there is newer ROM's out but this one works perfect for what I need. In my Case Stability.
DSC is the most actively developed/supported. Plenty stable for me. I don't think any of the earlier Froyo based ROMs are being developed further.
I meant as far as Stability, Performance and up to date, I don't care about the Stage UI and was gunna theme it myself or use SPB Shell 3D.
Could someone point me in the direction to an easy install rom?
I don't wanna install "these update pkg's" after renaming and then plug my phone into the pc and open cmd and then type this in on the pc. et cetera et cetera
I just wanna download a zip drag it to the card, bootup in safemode and install from sd card.
I'd consider doing all that work if I weren't testing out the device.
I won it off ebay, the guy replaced the screen and said it's been randomly rebooting ever since. But he never did a factory reset or new rom install ever since fixing the screen, so I just wanna simply install a rom and see if it works then go on from there.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Unfortunately I do not believe that anyone can change the way that the Streak works just so it is more convenient for you or so that you don't have to learn anything.
In the time you took to navigate to XDA and make your post you could have flashed a ROM onto your Streak - plugging it in and everything.
The only ROM you can install by just putting it on the SD Card is the same one that is currently on the Streak, if you don't mind holding down a couple of buttons and using recovery mode.

If anyone is wondering why developers leave and give the site a bad reputation look no further. Someone with over 600 posts under his username should not be making noob posts like this one. With so many posts he knows how to use the search engine and the wiki, but I guess when it comes to our device using the search engine and the wiki is an inconvenience, along with renaming a file "update.pkg".

Some people learn better through interaction where they can actually ask questions... I don't have over 600 posts so who are you talking about? Furthermore if you are talking about first thing I'd do is learn how to read mr wise guy, secondly!! You tell me how one is supposed to learn which rom is the best based on user reviews and opinions, where do I go to find that out and wheres the wiki on that, unless you expect people to read 200 and 300 page threads also? I have barely 150 posts and rarely post at all unless it is to ask questions or make requests. It's not like I have 600 posts and every single one of them are questions.
This is only my second time dealing with android and second time flashing android first time it was simply moving a zip to the sdcard and booting up into safe mode and selecting update through sdcard, so certainly I'd be baffled and have questions when one time it was so easy and the second time I've gotta jump through hoops and everything.
Lastly since WHEN Is asking a Question SOOOO wrong in the Dell Streak 5 Q&A Category???? It's not like I posted it in the wrong area or something, but ohhh no'es how dare n00b be confused and need a lil help/guidance of some experienced users, ohh mercy me the drama in that!!
Last time I checked that is what XDA is here for, for people to learn, not to be attacked by asshat trolls like you.

Download appropriate recovery to flash from Stock Recoveries or Custom recoveries
Enter fastboot mode on your phone
Flash recovery with fastboot: fastboot flash recovery <path to recovery.img>
After flashing is complete: fastboot reboot to reboot
Finished
If you are using a custom recovery see Disabling recovery overwrite in stock roms and follow the steps there to prevent the Streak from over writing the recovery. Re-install your custom recovery after following those steps.

I hope that you can actually read better than that. The wiki does not say to stay away from fastboot. It clearly states two commands that should not be used on the Streak. It goes onto give a number of examples of using fastboot.
I hope that you other 157 posts (as I wtite this) on XDA were not as tiresome or ill-informed as the ones you have posted here.
The information you need is here in the forums, available at the links in my signature, and on other forums. Please exercise some patience and read the info.

First I'm gunna try factory reset and see if that fixes the random reboot problem, hopefully it does the seller said he just installed the new screen and never did anything except for just trying to powering it up, use normally and it would reboot suddenly.
WELL NO DUH, you need to restore everything back to default settings with a factory/hard reset. Thats like trying to install a video card or webcam and expecting it to work right away without installing the dirvers. - Hopefully!
Well it's only getting as far as the dell logo screen/splash screen. I've tried the entering safe mode but nothing yet, once it's powered on it just sits at that screen.
dsc is great and very stable if you dont mind the few following quirks.
1. google maps will always run in the background unless you freeze it. This will drain your battery quite quickly
2. Wifi might or might not be broken, if it is broken use wifi analyzer if not profit
the benefits of dsc?
fast
running GB instead of froyo
dpi change is awesome.
screen default orientation is awesome
stable other than those few bugs
Battery life was decent.
-------------
Im however just running 2.2 froyo on a stock rogers. The battery life is amazing on stock 2.2 (a whole day, and still have about 30% with heavy usage and constant 3g) and the wifi works fine. For me this is the most stable rom however it is a bit slow compared to DSC. This phone is used for work so it has to just.. work.
---------------
Havent really tried the other roms yet, but depending on what you want out of the phone you can try the DSC and see if you can live with these little quirks.
Yea I was leaning more towards DSC than Longhorn, it looks like it's updated more frequently too.
Bad & Good News
Turns out when the guy replaced the screen he fried the mobo... Me and a friend at a small local pc store tried everything from rooting with new rom to factory resets. Always had the same problem.
But the guy at the pc store sells phones also and said he'd give me $100.00 credit to a new factory refirbed, rooted and unlocked dell streak mini if I gave him the one we tried to repair.

[Q] [Bricked Fascinate] Please help!

Now I know this question, in general, has been asked a lot. I've literally searched and tried the solutions in other threads, but this phone might be beyond help. I just want to know if someone has another solution as to how to revive this phone. I honestly think my situation is different than most....I downloaded and installed Team Hacksung's ICS 4.0.3 Build 6.1 ROM and I was using it just fine for a couple of months. Everything was working the whole time. Today, I am browsing through my local news station's app and my phone freezes on me! I pulled the battery and restarted the phone. It boots up fine and gets to the startup screen with the time and the screen lock. I did notice right away that the digitizer screen was not responding to my touch because I could not slide my lock over to get into my phone. I tried a few more soft resets and still nothing. I did notice, however, that the soft keys at the bottom did respond to my touch and they blinked and provided haptic feedback, so at this point I'm thinking it shouldn't be a problem with my digitizer. So I took the battery out then put the phone into recovery and wiped data, cache and dalvik. Then I rebooted the phone once again and still no response to touch at the home/lock screen. I then proceeded to try to reflash the same ICS ROM all over again and that's where the problem started. I can get into download mode and I've already tried to load stock froyo and stock gingerbread, but nothing works. My phone will not go past the "Samsung" boot-up screen. I've already tried several other forums' threads on how to recover a bricked Fascinate, but no matter what I try to load with Odin, Heimdall or anything else, my phone won't load past the Samsung screen. I can get into Download mode and that's it. My phone will not go into recovery using the 3-finger method. When I run odin I get a success message each time. I've even tried to heimdall the files individually and even tried to reload the stock kernel. The other problem I am running into is a lot of the links on these sites are all broken so I am unable to get the files I need. Has anyone else ever had this problem?
Edit: P.S. When the phone is off and on the charger, the grey battery shows the "loading" circle (whatever you call it) in the middle of it, but never converts to showing the green bars moving up and down indicating the battery is being charged. The loading circle is also frozen and does not spin.

Did you do check repartition and use the atlas pit file? That would be key, I believe, in returning you properly to stock.

I used heimdall front end to load DI01 files, I didn't use any commands. Also, I was just referring to "Unbrick your samsung fascinate" threads on other websites. A lot of the links I found were outdated or broken.
yea unfortunately not many guides have working links these days...Mine is about the only one left that is kept up to date. Im very suprised a full odin session did not fix your issues. One thing left to try is to odin a older stock package like DL09
Found here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1526488
Just tried pushing the DL09 file in odin AND in heimdall and neither worked. I still get stuck on the "Samsung" boot and it goes no further. Can't even get into recovery....
I think I truly have a brick...
kinna long shot
but why not try a different PC and a new or different cable.
believe me a faulty cable did me in, a week back and i was sure at the time that my phone is gone, but then it wasn't as bad as the impression i am getting from your description.
all the best with this , and hoping that something solves this issue.
god bless

I am having a similiar problem now. I was able to odin an older CWM (3.0 blue I got somewhere). From there I mounted usb and loaded ext4_formatter_all.zip. I ran this script and odin'd dh03 and finally got back to stock. That's where I am now.
Hope this helps

I have a blue recovery [3.x, voodoo], here it is if the OP wishes to try it.
[Use Heimdall and select recovery]
cwm3_voodoo-blue.bin http://www.mediafire.com/?4ls06x8gha88vtp

05f3e376ca697fd0fb8700dea05254aa cwm4-bml-i500-fascinate.bin
I threw in an extra 4.x cwm for good measure, lol. [I saved these in a folder in case I ever needed them..I was going to delete the folder since I upgraded to THS ICS rom (build 7.1), but I decided not to delete them for some reason]
it seems OP sounds like he knows what he is talking about, but lets start simple.
Have you tried going all the way back to 100% stock?
In droidstlyes FANTASTIC guide
do section 5, perhaps try with out repartition or the atlas....that has worked for me in the past.
I know on my THS ICS 7.1 build i had a "sleep of death" (wouldnt wake up) and i was lazy and did the 3 finger salute and it would ONLY boot into CWM. a battery pop would have been fine but like i said i was lazy. i had to Odin back to stock in order to re-flash everything. [luckily i had a nandroid from a few days earlier]
Good Luck
Edit: I have never seen or heard of a fassy that CAN get into Download mode and not be recovered to 100% functional.
I'm just thinking out loud here, but here are two things to consider. Perhaps the senior members will comment.
1. Have you considered flashing a different bootloader?
2. Is it possible you have a corrupt stock and/or pit file? Have you tried re-downloading them and giving it another go?
OP, can you post the md5sums of the files, along with the filenames that you are using in Odin/Heimdall?
thanks
Well, I ended up getting a droid bionic from a friend, so I will turn this fassy into a project phone. If I can get it to work I will sell it or keep it for backup. Anyway...
I have not tried the older blue recovery yet. I will try that when I get back to my computer. It seems like I've gone beyond anything I've ever had to try with this phone. I read on one thread that if odin did not work, keep trying heimdall over and over until the phone boots up. I must have tried at least 8 times on one run. It still won't go past samsung screen. I can get into download just fine. No matter how many different cwms I try, I can't get into recovery using the three finger method. Im pretty knowledgeable when it comes to this stuff and I didn't flash the wrong rom or kernel or anything like that. I was running smoothly on an ics rom until my phone froze. I did have it overclocked with ns tools, but not at the time the phone froze. I honestly don't think its hardware related, but merely a glitch in the software or a bad kernel that does not want to come out? I have no clue....help me revive this baby lol...

I've tried different pit files from different threads. Even the one from droidstyle's thread. I've also tried different versions of the following stock files from different "known" and trusted sites: DI01, DL09, ED01, EB01, EH03, CM7, CM9 other ICS roms and different kernels that suit each both voodoo and non voodoo. And excuse my newbness on the terms, but what do you mean by flashing a new bootloader?

Bootloaders can be flashed in Odin the same way a ROM can. A bootloader is the rudimentary software that gets the other software up and running. When Glitch's kernel started requiring Gingerbread bootloaders for complete functionality, a lot of us realized that just having GB didn't mean you had GB bootloaders.
http://www.mediafire.com/?fqojvsynkff93hc
Hopefully this link will work. It's certainly worth a try. It doesn't seem like you have much to lose. I'd recommend flashing it the exact same way you do a ROM. There's a bootloader section in Odin, but most people avoid it. Good luck.

[Q] Atrix firmware ROM and booting problems

Hi,
I am new to this, so I thank you for your patience and time.
I bought a Motorola Atrix 4g unlocked from Amazon. I believe it was orginally ATT.
When I got it, ithere was no "M" Motorola boot icon but a five second timer that booted from RSD. The other options on this screen were fastboot, Android Recovery and a few other options like BP RSD NvFlash etc.
The OS was Android 2.2 and there was no play store. I wanted to install Ice Cream Sandwich, so I install clockwordmod recovery app from the website (downloaded the apk), and tried to boot into it, didnt work and ended up going to Android Recovery and trying to update with the ICS zip file.
This is the ICS ROM I was trying to install http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1836674
Anyway, phone wouldnt boot now, it would stick at screen with options. So i connected to PC, downlaoded and installed RSD Lite v5.6. I then had an SBF named "1FF-olympus_emara-user-2.3.4-4.5.2A-74_OLE-31-release-keys-signed-MERetail-06" which I flashed. The battery ran out so the program didnt complete all the way.
When I booted now, I get M Motorola logo, and have to press the volume down key to get the boot options. I have cut the red and black wires from a USB cable so I am able to give the device power and so get into RSD or fastboot modes.
Now this is my problem, what do I do from here???
I want to end up with a phone that boots and works with ICS, preferably the rom above; but reading this forum, I am getting confused with SBFs, ROMS, images, Stock files, fastbooting, RSD etc.... everything is swirling around in my mind.... please help me!!!
Thanks a lot
[Update]
I followed this link http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1204500 and flashed CWM 5, and then copied the above ICS Rom and it now comes up to a boot screen with a blue android and a circling blue circle and it stands there. Is this progress?
Dude, you need to read up more before you do stuff. First of all, that ROM is not ICS, I don't know why you thought it is. It says so right in the thread title - "CM7". (A stable and fully working ICS/JB ROM for the Atrix does not exist, for reasons beyond this post. Read up on the controversy if you want to know more.) Second of all, every ROM takes significantly longer to boot the first time, this is perfectly normal. In some cases it can take up to 10 minutes. How long did you wait?
BTW, what you linked to is MROM-GB, a fine choice for a daily driver. I'm using it too.

Hi, thanks for your reply.
I do read up the threads and if it is long, at least the post and the last page; but I really was looking at several Roms and was interested in AtrICS, but it was late and I went for the other ROM instead; my bad :silly:
I left it for over thirty minutes and a copule of times, but the boot icon remained.
What I later did was to use RSD Lite and flash an ATT Rom onto it, which still hung at the boot screen, so I fastboot the CWM Recovery and then installed Android Breadcrumbs and it worked!!! I had to toggle between HW RSD option, then the SW RSD one, until finally selecting just RSD where the SBF file was flashed.
Thanks again.
Would you recommend AtrICS btw?
AtrICS? No, not really. It is based on the leaked kernel which is unfortunately plagued with all sorts of bugs and issues. Feel free to try it, it's working surprisingly well for some, but personally I would not recommend it.

[Q] Flashed Photon 4g with Electrify (US Cellular)

A year or so ago I rooted my phone. Everything was kosher, then it just stopped working. Discovered recently it was due to an update to 2.3.5. In any case, a couple days ago I rooted it again using this guide. No problem. Everything was good.
Shortly after rooting, I wanted to see if I can upgrade the os, so I used this guide. I must've done something wrong because it didn't work the first 2 times. I altered some setting the third time, and was stuck on motorola load screen (with RSD error).
I visited numerous posts and thought I followed the instructions they gave, but apparently I flashed the wrong SBF because I now have US Cellular with no signal, nada. I used this post. Reading through, I saw there were a plethora of other people with the same issue, but I'm still a bit lost as to how to recover from here. Is there no way to go back? Is there a way to system wipe everything and do a factory reset?
I did do a nandroid backup before I started all this, and when I plug my phone is I can still see the file. Just not sure what to do from this point...or if there is even a way to go back? Some posts say no, then others say yes. Further, I have no data connection or anything. Just this ugly babyblue screen.
So I guess part of the problem is I am a bit confused regarding the terminology. I read the Moto Photon Compendium but I must need a more remedial answer. I understand RSD lite and how to use that, but that's just for flashing .sbf files, correct? Is the bootstrap recovery just for flashing roms? If so, where can I find it since most links are a couple years old and dead.
Ok I got it back to Sprint and Photon using a repost of the guide provided by yairku,
I got wifi, I got it rooted. The only problem is it says NO SERVICE.
Not sure what to do next. smh.
