I was trying to get ubuntu working on the atrix by following the guide from http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1000316 but I did not really know that the thread was being discontinued.
I have now messed up my system partition a little bit so my webtop doesn't work at all.
The phone works perfectly fine, just that I cannot do anything with regards to webtop.
Does anyone have any suggestions?
Thanks in advance!
I ended up flashing my previous ROM again and everything worked out. I then followed all the instructions from http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1119555 and managed to get everything working.

Hi guys -
First post .. a little
My webtopbackup folder got nuked by a factory reset -- I didn't think to check XDA for the proper sequence before trying the new OTA updates.
Does anyone have the original files so that I can restore the application and update?
I don't want to try the SBF flash because some have said it causes more issues. My phone is fully functional at this point - except I cannot update OTA. I figured if I could reload the proper webtop files I could probably OTA update.
Best,

Apologies if this has been covered before...
Here you go.
Much thanks!

Recovering Webtop
Can you tell how to recover Webtop? I did the HDMI hack and it worked fine, then in pursuit to get a fully function linux distro on there, I tried Webtop2sd, my terminal and awn manager were failing, so I tried the full Debian distro.
Now when I put hdmi cable or put the atrix on the lapdock (yeah I got it when price dropped to 50$) I see a blank screen.
The M flashes for a while and nothing but a blank screen now.
Please help!

You should be able to re-flash the webtop files via CWM, see this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1169457
there's a "Fruit Cakes" thread in the development board, it also has a webtop which can be safely recovery flashed.

thank you for that tip, i jumped over to that section and found the link listed at the bottom of the original post which helps recover Webtop 2.3.4 and I'm downloading the file now but rapidshare is anything but rapid unless you pay so we'll see how that plays out, but here is the link to that post for the fix:

I have been reading around for a while now, and noticed a lot of ppl soft-brick there device and are asking devs for help. I have noticed a lot of issues revolve around people trying to hop form on ROM to another.
A very easy way to recover from any sort of brick(or issue) is to use nvFlash. Its is very easy to setup and use and I highly recommend that everyone should setup nvFlash. You can find the guide on how to set it up from http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=861950
I think after the update last night a lot of people will brick there devices trying to mod it, and nvFlash will help you recover. I think we can really help out the dev if we all learn how to use nvFlash, because then they wont have to ans to alot of the support issues that keep coming up, and it will free up some of there time which they can use to create newer roms that will work with the new update.
If for some reason you follow that guide and are not scussefull in setting up nvFlash, then feel free to leave me a pm and i'll help you set it up.
Good post!!
You absolutely right because most of them (especially new users) won't take time to read stuff about the new update, which will in most cases soft brick the tab when coming from a non stock rom.
So yea they all should have Nvflash setup, just in case
Great advice.
I was messing around with Vegan Ginger the other night and wound up borking my gTab. Followed the instructions in that thread and had no problem using NVFlash to get everything back to normal.
Noob here Hi!
I Actually used the NVFlash yesterday to clear up some issues i was having. it works well and was easy to use.
Some how i screwed up my copy of Clockworkmod. When ever i attempted to flash any Custom ROM it would just sit at the view sonic boot screen...Although TNTLite always flashed with no issue.
I used NVFlash to get back to defaults then updated to 3588 then Reflashed CWM. Now I am able to load Vegan
Thanks for the post i think it will be helpfull for us N00Bz

Actually, you probably didn't screw anything up. Some Gtabs have a partitioning issue (I had it) which is only corrected during nvflash. I was unable to install any ginger roms until I nvflashed. Worked like a dream after nvflash.
I would like to work on my own ROM and I am starting to get the hang of moding the boot.img and stuff so I would like to start testing. I don't wish to run everything on my GTab all the time. Is there a way to get a custom ROM to run in an emulator? I have read a few threads on this, creating an AVD and swapping out the system.img, but I haven't gotten it to work. My guess is that it could be related to the kernel, but who knows. Anyone have any advice for this?
Honestly, the emulator is for testing App development and does a poor job even at that.
You'll need an actual device to do ROM development.
Most devs use their own device or have a second device to test their builds on.
Thanks T. Thats what I was afraid of.
When I built/compiled SnkBitten ROM for the Motorola Droid I know I locked up my phone hard plenty of times until I finally had everything working properly. Thank goodness for clockworkmod recovery and .sbf files for it. Have a nvflash ready to go if testing on your own device.
I eventually bought a second Droid to make things more convenient....but a phone is a bit more necessary to be functioning than a tablet too.....

I have looked through a few threads but I am still unsure of where I need to go/what to do.
I evidently removed the Webtop partition when changing roms, or something of that sort. I am currently running HomeBase the Cronic Blue version. With the sale of the lapdocks, I picked one up and changed from CM7 to the HomeBase.
When I plug my phone into the lapdock, it just clones the screen and nothing else. I believe in the HomeBase thread itself, someone said I needed to reinstall the webtop.
So my question then is (if not obvious by now) how do I go about doing that? Looking through some webtop hacks and threads of that sort confused me a bit more. Most of those seem to require having it previously installed and then those modify it? Or am i looking at that completely wrong?
Guide, links to the correct threads, or anything that can get me going in the right direction would be very much appreciated.
You can install just the webtop with the fruitcake webtop addon.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1163009
Make sure you get the one for your Rom 1.8.3, 2.3.4, or 2.3.5
Thank you very much! That is even a thread I looked at but wasn't sure if it was the right thing to do. Just flashed the Webtop addon for 2.3.4 and it worked first go. Very much appreciated.
Hey all, just ran into some trouble trying to flash CM-10.2.1 onto my Droid Razr xt912
powered down and booted into recovery, luckily i backed up the stock rom, wiped the stock rom, and tried to flash the .zip file....the program said that the operation was successful, but upon rebooting, no OS loaded up...
the weird thing is that when i was testing out the release to see if i wanted to replace my stock rom, i loaded it onto a partition via safestrap and it seemed to work just fine..
anyone else have the same problems? can anyone think of anything i have done wrong? any help would be greatly appreciated. i realize that this post is slightly vague and i dont know much about flashing roms or anything, only what i have read online. so please by all means ask me anything! i am greatly interested in this ability of the android devices and am wanting to learn as much as possible!!!
thanks again in advance for any help
From what I've read it needs to be loaded onto a partition so if it works you did it right

Earlier CM 10 builds had a restriction. They can only be flashed on the Slot 1 using Safestrap. This was removed in CM10.3 so if you are trying to flash CM 10.2, you need to use only slot 1.
PS: The update script says that in flash process too.
