I have a question about account synching in particular with Google Picasa
When I go into the gallery on my phone I have all the pictures I have up on Picasa. I delete all these photos. Under Accounts and Synch I have the background data turned off and thus the auto-sync is not turned on. I have various accounts set up gmail, facebook etc. When I go online and try to go into the App Market it states I need to turn the background data turned on. This then seems to synch the accounts and the pictures I deleted are back in my gallery which I do not want. If its something else that is making the pictures uploading other than this I would like to know in order to stop it. I am running litening Rom 6.
Is there a way to stop the pictures from uploading and is there a way of viewing the market without having to turn the background data on.
Thanks

This has been a bit frustrating.
When you go through set-up, it gives you the option of adding a Google account which is necessary for using Market. But it also syncs your e-mail into the Gmail app and syncs your contacts. I don't want either of those because my Exchange has both contacts and I want to use the HTC mail widget for my Gmail.
I have tried various ways to prevent this from happening, but all have failed.
1. I went through set-up connecting to wifi and adding my Gmail. Then I went to options and removed syncing. But my e-mail and contacts are still in the Gmail app.
2. I did not connect to wifi so that I can first go to options and removing syncing, but that didn't help.
3. I created another generic gmail account just so I can use it for market. However, now that account is connected to my GTalk app instead of my normal account.
So here is my goal:
Use my everyday Gmail with GoogleTalk app, but without it syncing my Gmail contacts or my e-mail with the Gmail app.
Is there any way to do this? Am I missing something? Can you go to the syncing options without actually setuping the Google account first?
Thanks for the help.
Also, while we are on the topic:
What is the main difference between the two? I keep reading online that the Gmail app is supposed to be Push e-mail, but I have also read just as many posts saying it doesn't work or it doesn't do that.
I figured out a solution:
1. Go through set-up and connect to Wi-Fi, but do not set-up a Google account. Skip it.
2. Go to Settings>Syncing>Checking Auto-Sync and Sync in Background
3. Settings>Add Account>Google Account
And here is where you need some fast fingers...
4. Settings>Check Sync in Background and Auto-Sync and quickly click on Google Account you just set-up and uncheck Sync Contacts, Calendars, and E-mail.
I was able to uncheck e-mail sync, but it had synced some of my contacts already. That wasn't a problem b/c I haven't set up my Outlook account so I just deleted all the Google contacts it had synced. But I was fast enough where I didn't let it sync Gmail account.
Now no e-mails in Gmail app and I can use Google Talk.
Just purchased a Streak running Android 2.3.3. I set up my gmail account on phone and everything looked ok. Mail and calendar appear to sync fine but only a few contacts synced. When I open Settings/Accts & Sync, the gmail account shows and sync is turned on.But if I open Contacts/menu/Accounts, gmail does not appear and if I try to add an account, gmail is not present as an option. How do I get the google contacts to sync?
If I remember right you have to go into your Google Contacts on a web browser and move all your contacts into your My Contacts area.
problem solved
I discovered the problem. I had used Root Uninstaller to freeze the Google Sync application at the time I was trying to reduce the apps I didn't think I would need. Now everything in sync. Thanks
I upload photo's from my computer to Picasa Web using Picasa, where they are stored in my Google Plus space.
Under my account sync settings in Android, along with Gmail and Contacts and all that, I've got "Sync Google Photos" and "Sync Picasa Web Albums".
What's the difference between these two choices?
I was wondering the same thing too.

I believe this quote/link should help half of your question.
Android 4.0 devices have a system setting that allows you to Sync Google Photos.
This setting enables syncing of your Google Photos from your web albums to your device's Gallery app. As a result, if you have a large number of photos in your web albums that have been uploaded through Picasa Web Albums or Google+, you may notice a high amount of battery or data usage during this sync.
This setting also enables or disables sync for Instant Uploads to Google+. However, to enable Instant Upload, you must enable Sync Google Photos as well as enable Instant Upload within the Google+ app.

In Picasa you can upload photos at the original size, with Google+ it will resize & compress it whether you want it or not. Not what I want
Well...I have contacts linked to their Facebook accounts...
This is fine with the most of the contacts, but for some I use photos I have manually set.
Every few days or every few times I open Facebook app on the phone, somehow photos of contacts change to their fb-photos.
I have option "do not sync" enabled...
I linked every contact manually to Facebook, and after that they get fb-photo...
Then...for some I have manually selected photo from sdcard...
And they had their photo...
Then my problem arrived...and then I manually edited the contact and changed which photo I wanted... Google Facebook or phone...
I selected phone...
But after few days it changes back to fb-photo...
And this continues every few days...
How to stop facebook from changing contact photo when they change it or after few days, if you want to keep your phone photo?
Hi,
I have an issue with the Gmail app on my Moto G4+ on Nougat official ROM.
All syncing options are enable for Gmail, but I don't receive notifications when I have a new mail, I have to open the app en refresh manually to see it. Also, when I read the mail on the app, or delete it, if I open Gmail in a browser on my computer, the inbox still contains the deleted mail. Again, if I refresh manually on my G4, the mail is deleted on the server and not visible on my computer. There's no automatic sync in Gmail app, it only works with manual updates. The problem happens in Wifi or 4G, so it's not a connection issue.
I've tried to delete Gmail app data, to delete my Google account and recreate it on my phone, to exclude Gmail from battery economy mode, but nothing works, and it's really annoying.
Anyone here with the same problem and perhaps a solution ?
Thanks
Same issue here suddenly in the last few days. Manual sync within the Gmail app works but emails not automatically downloading and actions on phone not syncing to web automatically.
You have any battery savings settings enabled? Or a battery saving app? These often mess with sync settings to save some juice. Other than that, try Inbox if you want to stick with Google or a third party email app. I prefer BlueMail myself.
I have Nougat on a Samsung Note 5 with the same exact problem. I have power saving turned off. Never had this problem before I updated my phone to Nougat.
