[Q] Dalvik cache wipe - Motorola Droid X2

Hi all,
When I wipe the Dalvik cache in the recovery, I always get an error can't mount /dev/block/mmcblk1p2 File exists. Anything to be concerned about, and why do I get it (besides the file existing, I mean why does recovery even look at it)
Thanks.

The error when "wipe dalvik cache"! Thanks!

hey, I installed the CM7 today by using the clockworkmod 0.8 (I used the VEgan 5.11 before )
I wipe cache partition, wipe data, wipe, wipe Dalvik Cache
but when I wipe Dalvik Cache, there is a error: can't mount dev/block/mmcblk0p2
anyway, I install the CM7 successfully... but I am a little worried about that erro...
so why this error appear? what is that mean?
do I need to fix this error and then reinstall the CM7?
sorry for so much naive question! thanks!

Wiping Dalvik Cache in Recovery Error.

Solved. Mod please close.
Thanks for the help....
Just got a new Thunderbolt. Rooted. When I wipe Dalvik cache I get a line that says E: invalid directory or file. Is there something I need to do to my internal storage or sdcard first before downloading a new rom, wiping data cache dalvik and then flashing? Recovery doesn't seem to be wiping dalvik cache. Any help is apreciated. Thanks.
Hey! Let me tell you something.

Did you delete the cache partition first? I believe the dalvik cache is often stored there, so if you wipe the partition first, you'll get an error if you attempt to wipe the cache afterwards. Either way, if it isn't there, it shouldn't cause a problem with a new ROM.
I found a file named cache, it had 2 files. One was called download.apk, the other was Recovery.txt. The Recovery.txt file was just a log of my last flash. The download.apk would not open. It was 1kb. In the data dir. there is a David cache file. It has all the data from the user apps. I deleted the cache file but still got the error, then deleted both, and still the same. After reboot, both files were there with the same info. Should I re-root, format sdcard with a ext-3 partition then update to a GB Rom? Thanks
Hey, the Ol' Lady stole my T-bolt
It always says that, for me at least. You have to do two clicks in Recovery for it to work, if you know what I mean. After I click "Clear Dalvik Cache" the first time, I get that "error" and a list of more options, one being Wipe Dalvik Cache, and the other 13 being the same. I click Wipe Dalvik Cache, and the feed at the bottom says Dalvik Cache cleared.
That is when.it looks for a EXT partition. If one was not create it will say that.
It is typically used for Apps2SD and by having them on the SD there would be a dalvik directory.

How I fixed the CM7 Wifi problem.

So i installed CM7 XRON-ified b2.1 on my TP yesterday exactly as stated:
1) Download the latest version either on your Touchpad or computer
2) If you already have CM7 or XRONified installed, place the above zip on the root directory of your Touchpad
3) Reboot in to recovery
4) Wipe cache AND dalvik cache (under advanced menu option)
5) Flash zip. (if you are coming from CM7 you MUST wipe factory reset/cache/dalvik first)
After booting successfully I noticed that the wireless wouldn't connect, i was stuck in a obtaining IP address loop. I also noticed that i didn't have root (when I went to applications that required root it said that I do not have root). I thought this was very weird but figured CM was still in its alpha state and that it was just a little buggy...
I finally got annoyed after trying all the possible fixed: changing wifi channel, renaming host device, resetting router, ect...
So I booted into CWM and performed every possible wipe:
-wipe data/factor reset
-wipe cache partition
-format /cache
-format /data
-format /system
-format /sdcard
-wipe Dalvik cache
-fix permissions
After this I realized my backup and rom files had been wiped and I panicked for a second then remembered that I can mount the HP TP drive in CWM by selecting (mount USB storage). I mounted the drive and moved the rom back onto the drive and installed the rom (install zip from sdcard).
The install went very quick (10 seconds) then i restarted. The reboot took a couple of minutes but then I was booted up. First thing i checked was for root and it was a miracle, i had root!
After that I tried the wireless and it connected like a champ! Its been running great since, no disconnects!
...I suggest the install process be tweaked for "fresh" installers since it doesn't appear to work...
I hope this helps others.
P.S. - I LOVE THIS ROM!, THANKS DEVELOPERS!
LOL took me a while but i did exactly what you said
STILL HAVE THE ISSUE...
thanks for the possible fix though
Did you have the root issue I was having?? I assume my fix only works if the root is also the issue *shrugs*
Sorry to waist your time

Have you tried rebooting the router and/or changing the channel to # 4?

Lol dont apologize, no time was wasted, im honestly willing to try anything
And yes, i have, and still have the root issue... i wonder why... guess i need to fiddle with it some more
in CWM recovered, I performed the following:
-wipe data/factor reset
-wipe cache partition
-format /cache
-format /data
-format /system
-format /sdcard
-wipe Dalvik cache
-fix permissions
Then I mount USB storage and copied the rom over to the HP TP drive and then installed zip from sdcard (select the rom)....maybe I went over board on the wipes but it works so im happy

How are you guys determining if you have a root issue? Can't su from terminal? I have not been able to get connected at all on android so as far as I know I don't have any apps that could check for root access other then that..
Open up adbwireless or adfree or cwm ...these all require root.

[Q] Dalvik Cache

When I load roms, typically I will wipe the Cache as well, the Dalvik Cahce. However, since loading the new Cm9 Unofficial, everytime I try to wipe the Dalvik, i get "E:unknown volume for path [/sd-ext]".
Is this a problem and if so, how do i fix this?
I'm pretty sure it has always said that on every phone and every ROM I have used.
The dalvik cache wipe is not needed if you wipe the cache partition...
Guess where the dalvik cache is,
that's right.
The cache partition!
Btw, that message just means you don't have an external sd card installed.

True, the error message can be ignored,
but sorry you're wrong -- dalvik-cache is under /data partition
and the message will appear regardless of having an sdcard, it just means [/sd-ext] is undefined
