If you're like me, you want Swype when your in portrait and the moto keyboard when your in landscape. This helpful app does that for you.

Keyboard Manager was a big motivator for me to root my phone. I love it! I use Swype in portrait and the GB keyboard from the market in landscape.

I'm using thumb keyboard right now & very pleased with it. Its very customizable & has several different keyboard themes.
Any keyboards that are free? I am cheap. I like to test them before I buy the full version.

Give Hacker's Keyboard a try. First of all it's free, and totally customizable. Only keyboard installed on my X2.
I was running Swype in portrait and GB in landscape, but recently GO Keyboard became my top choice for landscape. I like it.
Since this thread has started this has been one of my favorite apps
Im having problems with the links, it keeps taking me to a dnsse search or something. Not sure why! is Hacker's app on the market? Same with the keyboard manager?

Sorry for an ignorant question...
I have 1.6 and installed swype, I enabled it in the settings, but when the keyboard comes up, it seems to be the default Dell one becasue I cannot "swype"...what am I missing...??
you gotta hold the text box area and wait for a dialog to pop up. then select input methods and then swype.
i find swype kinda hard to use because of the keyboard size. but its always good to have.

Thanks, Duuhhh....knew it was something easy.
You are right, the swype kb is huuuuge...was much nicer on my Vibrant.
I just wish you could dynamicaly select text on the fly by moving the cursor by touch like the iPhone...
Have you tried ultra keyboard yet? It will do tracing and a whole lot More!
Its also supports skins and can resize the keys as well.

I've been accustoming myself to Ultra Keyboard after using Swype the last few months and wanting "smaller" keys on the keyboard when using the Streak.
I do find the themes so far a bit uninspiring compared to the look of Swype, but haven't been able to find anything better than the Ultra Keyboard author's own themes ... not that it's a particularly big deal or anything.
having said that, i found 'adwone' and a 'pre' theme by searching directly in the market for 'better keyboard' - both of which i quite like.

The thing I dislike when using keyboards other than stock keyboard (1.6) is that you need to type in a separate window whereas the stock keyboard can input the typed text directly. For example, I can type URL directly in browser and get suggestions on recently visited areas.

What about SlideIT? I found SlideIT quite good, the keys are really big. Is this Swype better than SlideIT?
Hi all,
I have to say only just getting a new Streak again after having been without one for a month and using a Galaxy S instead i much prefer Swype on the Streak with its larger keyboard. I am just so much faster and more accurate on the Streak now I'm not sure if maybe i have a different version to the one some of you are using. As i was lucky enough to get into the Beta when they last opened it up and i don't have an apk for it I just get a link to the Swype site and it downloads a Swype installer and then Swype straight to the Streak but i still think Swype is the best input method by a long way.
Marc
Hey, can anyone help me. I've just followed that linked and install that file yet cant find swype on my phone.

Make sure Swype is enabled in the settings then keep pressing on a text input and you will get a pop up about input method then just choose swype
Actually I've manage to solve the problem. Thanks for your fast reply.

Hi all,
I received an E-Mail from Swype yesterday with news that the previous Beta was about to expire and a link to download the new version unfortunately it doesn't come as an .apk so its not possible to share it. Instead you have to sign into your account and then it sends you an installer and installs directly on your Streak i haven't been able to really notice any differences as yet but if i do I'll report what i find.
Marc
@OP,
If it is a closed beta, you cannot get it by legal means other than by being invited to be part of such testing. Any other means of getting this software represent warez and it is a violation of XDA rules. Asking for, or providing warez is not allowed on XDA grounds. Let this be your first and final warning.

Swiftkey Tablet Beta is now available to Swiftkey VIP members. If you're not a VIP member, go register why you still can. It works pretty well and I'm sure its much better on atleast a 7" device.
Head over to http://www.swiftkey.net and take a look.
Nice find. As long as it gets Greek support I would happily pay for it.
Trial version (smartphone version) is amazing. Must have for those that there is support for their native language.
I like its looks, too bad the split keyboard is too small to use effectively on the streak...but normal mode works well. If only I could change the color to green...
Nice find i like the look of this
Has anybody else loaded and been using the SKT beta? If so, have any of you experienced a Google Framework FC intermitently after install, that you didnt before?

Not sure what you downloaded, but the free app-a-day version of SwiftKey X in the Amazon store is certainly qHD compatible and looks good on my phone. I believe the old Swiftkey (No X) was not qHD.
Although, I am not sure if i prefer predictive over a swype keyboard. I am going to test it out for a few days and see.
I use it and it is qHD

Awesome, thanks for this, I never would have noticed it without this post! You saved me 4 bucks
Glad I can help

Same problem for me, SwiftKey doesn't support the qHD resolution. It did with the "Out of the box" ROM, but since I've updated to 4.4.20 (stock Orange FR) it remains in the middle of the screen...
I did grab this but love dark blue, gingerbread "perfect keyboard " so just saved for later.

Gingerbread keyboard...can get it from Market. Also, wrong section to post this.

I for one love the SwiftKey X keyboard... Great product!
I've been on swiftkey x since I found it when it was in beta. Haven't bothered with anything else since I found it. And once it went official I bought it without hesitation.

Not exactly wrong section... It is an app - therefore I have a right to be here!
And swiftkey x... I have never actually purchased anything. I usually find an apk lying around for anything. I'll look into it I guess.
Wrong section? This is the app section isn't it. Don't you download those from the "APP" market? I guess I'm confused. I'm going to go check a few of those out. I've been using swype and it's annoying.
SwiftKey X is my favorite keyboard so far. The predictions are spot on since it pulls info from your sms, twitter, facebook, gmail, etc. The new Swype beta is nice as well.

This is the htc keyboard with prediction. It installs like an apk. Make sure to read the whole post though. On the market side, the gingerbread keyboard has always texted my messages. If you want some cool features though, check out Go Keyboard. You can theme it, customize it, and has gesture support.
This is what I was looking for! thank youuuuu
and apparently, it doesnt work anymore.
thumb keyboard is the best i have every used. better keyboard is good, as well as itap and iphone keyboard (both iphone keyboard clones)
Swiftkey X's multitouch support is terrible...
Perfect keyboard is the best IMO

+1 on that. has best options (tons of settings and stuff you can do) has nice themes, and GREAT multi-touch support. for people who text really fast this keyboard is great
FlexT9 is decent.
Assimilated via WinBorg 4G
I'll admit I haven't tried them all...But that's because I tried Thumb and feel absolutely no need to go to anything else. While it would be nice to have a keyboard I can custom theme myself (really though, I can do that with some basic knowledge of apk's and such), this keyboard has the best themes stock/to download IMO. And it functions perfectly with TONS of settings.
Costs money in the market, but well worth it.

Same issue here on any ICS ROM. After searching the Swype forums, there are ALOT of people in this boat. From my reading, it only has this issue on ICS. To paraphrase Nuance's / Swype's response: "The OEMs and carriers are our customers, not you, so get over it. We'll fix it when we feel like it."
Hey ppl. I dont know weather I'm gonna help you with this.
I suggest you use Touch Pal keyboard. Its super fast than Swype and accurate. Its my favorite keyboard. As soon as i flash new ROMs, the first thing i download is TouchPal. Check there demos at the below site.

They use something called Touchpal Curve, Which is much easier than Swype. Which predicts loooooong words really fast.

I find that TouchPal is far less accurate than Swype, plus has some sort of glitterly line instead of just a plain jane line when swyping. Thanks, but no thanks.

I'd recommend uninstalling, then cleaning cache, then trying to install swype beta (which supports ICS):

Tried that and it did not work. What worked for me was installing the Swype Beta installer, then installed the Swype apk located here:

The keyboard installed and I was able to update it to the latest and am using Swype on ICS happily.

You know there is a "trace" keyboard option under language and keyboard in ICS.

I know that is an option, but after using it for a while, I wanted to throw my phone against the wall. It's auto word selection is not as good (actually, it's pretty horrible). For example, every time I typed good, the trace keyboard would put god, no matter how many times I fixed it. Swype learns and so the auto selection is uncannily accurate with Swype (almost psychic).
Also, if the auto selection gets it wrong with Swype and I am past the word, I can go back and click the word and it still offers suggestions. The built in one only offers selections for the current word so if I found a mistake, I would have to retype the whole word.
To me, the built in HTC one is a poor man's Swype.
