What does the Ti Backup (Root edition) say when you open it? Does it give an error, or say superuser permission granted?
A little Diag. box pops up and says: Sorry I could not acquire root privileges this app will not work yada yada yada.
Try This:

hmmm :\ I dont get it.. I KNOW I'm using CMD command prompts correctly but still no luck
Maybe give us the exact steps you are doing and what the cmd outputs are when you enter the commands?
I'm getting no problems when I enter the prompts everything goes as directed per guide but when I check the phone for actual root there is nothing there
Rooted now... for whatever reason I was forced to use the automated script and unlock the bootloader (something I didn't want to do), I tried all other cmd prompt methods and none worked, this might just be an enigma to me.

Hello guys
I am having i problem with my root access.
Well yesterday i was trying to instal supercharger script on my t-mobile move balance phone. Everything was fine with the progress when on i guess step 5 or something i unfortunately got a msg su: must be suid to work properly...I didint know what to do, and hit kill, all the process was canceled.Later i tried to do the progress once more from the start, when i opened busybox it said No root access, i tried to open titanium too and i got error sorry i could not acquire root privilegies this app will not work please verify that your rom is rooted and includes busybox and try again, and on every app that requires root access it says you have no root access. But i have the su icon. I also tried with factory reset, reroot it again and still the same problem i have the su icon but no root access.
I rooted my phone with superoneclick and when i try to unroot it,unfortunately i guess it needs root access too to make the unroot progres... http://prntscr.com/65iyv
When i just click root http://prntscr.com/65izi
Well it says that my phone is rooted but i got no root access and privileges on apps that requires root access.
There is other problem
some guy told be only with reflashing my rom i will fix this issue and the problem now is HOW to REFLASH my ROM?
why no replies ,no one could help me?
EDIT... Still no ideas? i will appreciate any thought, idea or something... i just wanna fix my root access
EDIT 2: no one still dont know how can i fix my problem? what should i do? throw my mobile thru the window if u guys no one want to help?
maybe this helps

So, after learning that Motorola was not going to give us a software update for the Atrix 4G, I decided to take a chance and unlock the bootloader and flash a custom rom. I flashed CyanogenMod 7 Olympus (cm-7-20120923-NIGHTLY-olympus) and I love it! I made a backup of the stock rom and then a backup of CM7 after I had it set up the way I like it for the most part.
My only problem: I lose root access randomly... without rebooting... without doing anything! SU is there, and the superuser apk is there, and they come up as granting superuser permission, but the apps say they don't have access. Even trying to update the binary says "failed" when gaining root access.
I've been scouring forums and the net looking for similar problems. Rebooting doesn't fix it. I've tried downloading and flashing SU 3.1.3 from recovery (wipe cache & dalvik cache, then install from zip), and that didn't work. I then tried the same for 3.2-RC3, and no luck there. I've ran Fix Permissions just to try, and that did not work either. Somewhere, someone posted to reflash the ROM. Instead, I just restored a backup, and it comes back for a few days... then it stops working again.
Any suggestions on how to fix this or what could cause it? I don't mind restoring the backup again, but I'd like to keep it from happening if at all possible.

Try going in to Manage Applications and clear su data. If that doesn't work go to the Play Store and Install Superuser Update Fixer.

Thanks for the quick reply. I cleared the cache for Superuser (couldn't believe I didn't think to do that in the first place), and now it will not prompt to grant or deny. I try to update the binary, and it stops at "Gaining root access..." and doesn't show okay or failed. I tried to run the Superuser Update Fixer, and it says that the signatures are okay. When I try to force it, it does the exact same thing as Superuser: it hangs at "Gaining root access..."
It may be worth noting that I have to force-close Superuser the first time I open it after clearing cache. After that, it opens but only does the above mentioned.

Nothing happens in terminal emulator.
Now my question is, (and forgive my n00bness) since CM7 came rooted, do I follow the normal steps to re-root the phone through adb? I've never seen how to root a custom rom, but that may be because the process is exactly the same.

Nothing happens? No error ("not found" or "permission denied" or something like that)?
Go to the Play Store and download Root Checker, and check for root with that also.
I don't know the answer to your question since most users root, unlock, then flash a ROM. If it were me, I would try to root as if it were GB 236.

That is correct. I ended up having to kill the terminal emulator too. It just sits there with nothing displaying.
I ran root checker, and all I get is the loading circle in the middle that says "Please wait for Root Check to complete. System appears to be running very slow." Nothing else was running slow, so I rebooted my phone again.
I don't know what changed, but now I have root again! Many thanks upndwn4par!
My guess is clearing data in Manage Applications did the trick. Anyway, glad it is working!
Another method for checking if you are rooted properly.
EDIT: nevermind, now I see it's been discussed already. :stupid:

USB Debugging stays on usually because I don't connect my phone to a computer I don't know.
When this started, I was still getting the toast messages saying access granted, but it wasn't actually working. Somewhere along the line of steps it started working again tho.

So, props to you Sabbelknoken! I suddenly lost root again the same way I had before. I came back through this thread to revisit my steps, and I found that my USB Debugging was off. (I think I turned it off so one of my computers would stop asking me for the drivers. Not important.) I turned it on and it immediately began working!
Just wanted to concur...
Thanks to Sabbelknoken!! I had this same problem with my Droid Charge running Tweaked 3.0. Nothing was getting root and everything was hanging on "Gaining root access..." I tried SuperSU, re-installing Titanium Backup, Superuser, SuperSU, Superuser Update Fixer, Root checker, I cleared data, rebooted several times...over and over.
Then sure enough, my dang "USB Debugging" was not checked. Checked it, and now I'm happily rooting again. *whew* Thought I was going to have to re-Odin my ROM. Ick.
Thank again everyone!
su losing root usb debug etc
I too get su issues from time to time. mostly with stock roms when i flash a fruitcake or gingerbread. and recently one of the leak roms. just type d su in terminal emulator an got $ instead of #. I hope that means im properly rooted . I have a couple of one click root apps on my computers just incase i need to reroot. one is superoneclick 2.33 shortfuse and the other is motofail. then i make sure to install busybox and upate the binary. i also have su update fixer, superuser elite, and supersu. as well as rootchecker.
two thing I did not know were that 1. usb debugging is not just for transferring files or connecting to the computer. I used to turn it off sometimes and then wonder why superuser had problems. 2. how to see you are rooted by typing su in terminal.
From what i understand the one click methods are not ideal as they do not always work. but I usually try them first . If they are outated and dont work i end up rooting by command prompt. some times it woul take me cloose to an hour trying different things. never knew it was usb debugging turned off that causes most root failures. Did some reading and realized that if i allow su permission for terminal emulator, then type su again i get#. good to know.
activate USB debugging

Thanks for that simple tip. I was having the same problem, the "Allow" dialog didn't appear for any application request and Root Checker was only saying: "Device seems to be running really slow"
I was 2 or 3 days looking for the solution to this problem, because it is my first time rooting and I can't believe something as simple as activating USB debugging is not really explained in the rooting guide I used.
I hope that now Titanium and ROM Toolbox Pro work properly.
I'v ran through all root methods (that i know of) for this phone (4.4.4) and none of them work. at all. Whats the point of a root dir if its impossible to access? Seems to be limited info on a root method for this phone. Is it root proof?

Wanted to post update on this thread for people who come by via Google wanting to root that zte speed, as I was sick of coming by this thread as seeing no answer from the search results.
I did the following and was able to get permanent root with SuperSU
Source/Inspiration for this guide (thank you hroark13): androidforums / zte-speed-n9130-permanent-root-achieved.1061137
With ADB enabled and hooked up, run " adb shell reboot disemmcwp "from your PC. This helps to unlock some key parts for Kingroot to work much quicker and persist. That was the secret sauce that was not known in 2015 when everyone was trying to root this at first.
I used Kingroot 5.3.8 from APK mirror as that was easiest (no need to install the Kingroot application on PC just downloading the APK is enough to the phone). I was also running AnTuTu Benchmark Stress Test at the same time as running Kingroot, but this might not be necessary.
I installed Busy Box, and got the SuperSU downloaded ahead of time from the play store as well. I had tried to run Super SU but it couldn't replace the binary, so:
Finally, replace Kingroot with SuperSU by using the Super-Sume Pro app, pretty much just follow through the prompts in the app, but before you start be sure to disable Auto Updates in Kingroot first to prevent a possible conflict. The app will prompt you to reboot, which you can do.
Should have permanent root on your ZTE speed now, you can skip the last step if you like the Kingroot manager but generally people like Super SU better so I changed it to that (less janky).
Warning, if you screw any of this up there is no way to recover your ZTE speed so therefore you could end up with $20 brick.
Thank you, hope this helps someone out who has one of these in their junk drawer.
So a few months ago I bought my first Android phone in years, a ZTE Max Duo from Straight Talk. Unfortunately, since then I have found absolutely nothing about the phone on forums like this, let alone any way to root it. Has anyone managed to root this phone, and if so, how? I don't have regular access to a PC, but if the only way to root it is through a PC, I might ask for permission to use one.
I am looking for the same with this phone.. It seems like a great piece of hardware thus far bit could use some tweaks that a root could certainly take care of but no info whatsoever.. Any help with this would be great.
I figured out how to root the ZTE max duo (z963vl) via (iroot) I have the exact file and can tell u what to enable for root email me at [email protected] il send the file
Any Success?
It looks like there are a few variants of this device. I have the Imperial Max that is sold on US Cellular. Exact same phone and specs except for the radio.

I would like a copy of that file if you still have it and don't mind sharing it.
Man I've been trying to find any custom ROM or something that can get me to 6.0+ or 7.0+ because I can't deal with 5.1.1
But after searching relentlessly it seems that it doesn't exist.
I've been trying to find a ROM we could port over but that's looking grim too. I made a request over at CM so hopefully someone gracious enough will make one.

KingRoot now roots the phone but the bootloader is still locked!
The ZTE max duo LTE (z963vl) can now be rooted via KingRoot but only temporarily. When you reboot the phone you will lose root. You can not make any system changes either still because the bootloader is still locked after root. You can not update BusyBox either. Also when you root the phone with KingRoot it says "This model restricts root authorization". To fix that error just completely close KingRoot and re-open it and it will fix the root authorization error. Dev's or anyone for that matter please help unlock this phone's bootloader please I really want to start getting custom roms and recovery for this phone plus I want to be able to write to /system. I hope this helps as much as possible and I hope the bootloader will become unlocked with all the Devs help. Also I did this with the apk version of KingRoot only because I do not have a PC.
Great news...

Hmmmmm...
So I tried Mardeys method and it did root like he said... installed su superuser and root checker... they worked... busybox wouldn't install... restarted my phone and lost root... so I did it all again then just powered off my phone and started it with power button and volume up... took me to recovery screen with a few options... one being sideload with adb...
I am new at all this so don't know if that helps but would love to get this thing rooted...

Which superuser app are you using? The one by ChainDD just crashes when I run it, and SuperSU keeps saying the binary needs to be updated but fails when I try to do it.

Wall here's what my whole setup was... I ran King root... It said I was rooted but didn't restart my phone... I installed superuser and ran it... This is the one I used... Supersu by chainfire... I installed busy box also but had the same problem about need to update binary files blah blah blah... I then installed a root checker and said I was rooted... Super su was found and busy box... Still no reboot... So I tried installing a few root apps... I installed a app remover for bloat were and it worked... But... When I reboot my phone I lose it all... And can redo it all again but it won't stay on there... Not tech dumb but don't know enough to figure it out... Hopefully that helps you a little as far as what my experience was... Like I said before... If I boot into recovery there is an adb sideboard option so... Just hope it gets figured out soon... Would love to have this rooted with a good room on it.... Starting to think it's a hopeless cause... One more thing to add... While rooted I installed a boot manager to see if it would go into a deeper boot recovery mode at restart but it didn't...
I honestly wish I could swap out Kinguser for something else. SCR ScreenRecorder Pro doesn't seem to realize that there is root, even after granting it permission through Kinguser, which leads me to believe either I'm not actually rooted, or KingUser is garbage.
Does anyone have the firmware for this phone?
No answers? Nothing?
Did you guys try $su reboot disemmcwp in a terminal after rooting? That's always the next step on ZTE phones.
Going to try that now... Can't find a copy of the firmware anywhere however. Worries me in case I need to reflash
I'd like to get this phone rooted too I've only been only to temproot by kingroot

Just tried it myself, but after it's done rebooting, the root's still gone.
Edit: I've noticed that the XDA Labs app seems to think this is a ZTE Blade. Perhaps I might have some luck there?
im new to Android stuff, so please dont mind me if i do or say something wrong.
Lets start of with what ive done:
Used kingroot windows software to root my phone, it said everything was fine, root successfull and so on. Lucky patcher asked for root (so i know i do have it now), eveyrthing worked fine. Ive rebooted my phone leaving me with KingUser (as a system app) that can not be uninstalled or deleted from my storage. I tried adb shell to rm it, with no luck. The app also installs itself every time i reboot. Ive tried rooting the phone again with kingroot, with 'success' message BUT! if i run kingroot app again, the app itself searches for scripts to root the phone, like it wouldnt be able to detect the root! Ive done a factory restart with no luck. After some search ive found out that it was only a 'temp root' and my bootloader wont let kingroot to gain root after the reboot.
Can someone at least tell me how to properly step by step root with supersu? or flash the supersu? can i delete it witchout root? any help would be great

The hard way
I cannot get my device rooted, thats tge sad part. Cant replace kinguser with superSU, cant use twrp (probably wrong name, its that custom flashing soft) and kinguser does not see my device as rooted. Its somewhat tricky to unlock bootloader in my device, mamy users tells that unlocking OEM in dev settings does not unlock it to fully root the device. Can i somewhat force the root of my device by any soft? What im thinking is making my phone system soft somehow replaced by a custom ROM but i dont know how to replace it and with what if i dont have a rooted device. Now when i tried rooting it manually, using adb and making busybox, su and superSU apps set to some privilages the device shows as 'offline' and i cant get to its shell anymore. Im going to search for any roms my device would work with and ill try to install it using some recovery soft.
