[Q] Email notifications (gmail) - Galaxy S II Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi,
I just got my new galaxy s2 and synced it with gmail asap of course . I get a considerable amount of mail during the day. I'm getting crazy with my phone buzzing all the time (and it costs a lot of battery) is it possible to set it up in such a way that email only shows an email icon in the notifications bar without any sound or vibrations?
Thanks a lot

In the gmail app, go to settings and you can set what you want for the notification. You can turn off vibration, and set silent as the ringtone, and you can even set it to only notify you once, not for every email.

Thanks found it need to get used to that button being the settings button . Was looking all over the screen and couldn't find it

Unfortunately, I think the only way is to disable notification sound altogether.
menu > settings > sound > volume > default notifications > silent
Or
Use a 3rd party email client.
This puzzled me for ages as I couldn't find where to change the email app ringtone, but this is how I did it:
Settings
Accounts and Sync
Tap on the account (mine is Hotmail)
Settings
Tap on (for me) Hotmail
Notification Settings -> Select Ringtone
Silent

I actually had a look there earlier but missed the notification settings...
Huraaah, I no longer have to listed to that annoying default email sound!!
You are most welcome, I know how annoying it is and only found this by accident, it's hardly the most obvious way to change a notification.
There are several apps that you can use that support sound profiles.
I use phoneweaver. It does a lot more but I use it primarily for sound. I have several sound profiles setup:
one for the car - all volume all the way up
one for everyday use - volume about 50%
nighttime - volume totally off during certain hours (good for your case, phone ringer still active in case an emergency phone call comes in.)
silent - puts phone on vibrate completely
Does this work for you? I have Bedside because I need to be able to get calls at night but email notifications keep waking me up. I used to be able to silence notifications on my Droid Incredible.
Does anyone know if Tasker (I haven't used before) or Llama (same) would be able to control the set up listed above:
Settings
Accounts and Sync
Tap on the account (mine is Hotmail)
Settings
Tap on (for me) Hotmail
Notification Settings -> Select Ringtone
Silent
To do this at night and then turn it back on in the morning? I like getting email notifications during the day, but I can't find a program that keeps the ringer on and the notifications off at night.

Can you suggest a 3rd party email client that allows notifications to be silent?

How do you turn email notification sounds ON?
Hi. In searching for a way to turn on email notification sounds, I wound up here at this forum talking about turning email audio notifications OFF. I have a Galaxy Note 2, unlocked bootloader, running the standard unlocked ROM from Adam's unlock method. By default, my phone does not vibrate or sound off an audio alert when emails come in. They just show up in my notifications bar, and the notification LED flashes blue. So the only way for me to know a new email has arrived is to happen to look at the flashing blue LED.
Within the email app general preference settings I have "Vibrate" checked, and a ring tone selected under "Select ringtone".
Within the sound settings of the device, I have a ring tone selected for each of, "Device ringtone" and "Default notifications", and I also checked off "Sound and vibration"
Within the volume settings of the device, nothing is turned to silent ("Music, video, games, and other media", "Ringtone", "Notifications", and "System")
Within the Application manager settings, Email, there are no options to do anything about sound or notifications. All it shows is, "Force stop," "Disable," "Clear data," "Clear cache".
Thanks.

[Q] Google calendar constant sound notifications

guys
I cannot find a setting to change this and it's getting very annoying. I have my corporate mail events & google calendar events and both pop up on my phone. This behavior is only with google events - when I get the event, I simply press the home button and it stays in my taskbar and doesn't bother. However, every 15-20 mins, there is a sound from the phone. Any setting to fix this? I simply want it to stay in taskbar without bothering me
Thank you!

Google keep's reminder notification problem

Hey Guys,
I've been facing this issue for a long time now and would highly appriciate any advise here ...
I have a nexus 5x.
I am using google keep's reminders but sadly I get a very short (one second) notification on the screen if the screen is on
or a notification short sound (shorter then usual notification sounds) when the screen is off.
There is no notification lasting on top of the screen that I can scroll and see like in the past.
It seems like something is blocking it,
I gave Google keep permissions to my contact, storage and everything that is possible.
I've enabled the locked screen notification on google keep's settings
I've also reinstalled google keep and it didn't help ..
I've downloaded many reminder apps like any.do and evernote but they face the same issue as I've mentioned above.
The only way I can get a reminder is if I put a reminder in google calander's built in app
But I don't want to use it
Would appreciate any help on your part.
Thanks.

Cannot customise any notifications

Hi
Just bought this tablet and set it up today, after coming from the Samsung Galaxy Tab S2. I am a long-term Android user and am happily using Oreo on my Galaxy S9. Unfortunately, either I am missing something or am totally thick, but I can't find anywhere how to change the notification sounds for various apps such as Facebook, Twitter, Gmail etc on this Mediapad. I have the 8.4in running Android 8 & had no trouble doing this on my Galaxy S9. I go into notifications, it only gives me the option to turn the ringtone on or off, doesn't give me any list of tones. I have made sure all the apps have storage permission and virtually all permissions except for location.
Please someone make me feel less thick!!! :silly::silly::silly:
It's weird because it is there for me. From top to bottom:
Silent - vibrate while silent - DND - tablet ringtone - vibrate while ringing - notification
And in the last one I can set a notification sound or music
Def not for me. I was wondering whether to try a factory reset
I have now done a factory reset. Same problem. Facebook is fine, however so far, Gmail and Twitter are 2 that do not have the option to change the notification sound. I can switch them on or off, but can't change the tone. If I was able to post a screenshot of what I can see, then people would know what I mean
I'm right there with you. Got my new tablet on Friday, and I can't figure out how to have different notification sounds for multiple email accounts set up in the Gmail app. I've done this before on other devices, but it seems to not be set up to work on this tablet. Anyone have any thoughts?

The thing is I have actually looked under each app, which I had to do on my S9. Apps like Twitter you have to actually go into the settings, then apps, then Twitter, Gmail etc then find the notification within that and you can change it. But I have done that on this tablet and there is no option to change the tone. Facebook and messenger I have been able to change within their app. Any others, I cannot do within the apps or within the system settings. It's really strange. Shame we can't do screenshots on here.

[Q] Gmail Syncing - Disable Notification?

A few times a day, a Gmail notification appears in the notification area (top of screen) and also as a button on on the icon for the Gmail app. When I expand the notification, all it is for is that Gmail is Syncing. The notification automatically disappears when finished syncing. Is there a way to disable that particular syncing notification? It makes me think that I have a new email, and only way to tell is by viewing the notification, or waiting to see if it disappears.
I think this started happening ever since I added a second account.
I am on updated, stock, un-rooted Android.
Thank you,
