Hi,
can anyone point me at an updated functional guide, that instructs me how to root the galaxy S II ?
The threads I've found via google are either outdated or missing information.
This is the info om my phone, which I also was unable to find a kernel that matches this version:

Thanks in advance.

Your kernal is KE7
alright, thanks!
It worked first time, however the information is not correct in that guide, it talks about CF-root, but the file attached is Odin.xxxx
But I sorted it out, since I had read other guides talking about that cf-root and odin, so I just put the dots together.
Now am going to explore what a rooted device, can do, that I non-rooted cannot.
Read the Post 2,3 also, not only 1. Nothing is wrong there.

I've tried to root my SGS2 with "Unlock Root 2.3" but... Failure, also tried with Super One Click 2.3.3.. but after step 7 was stock.
I searched for 2 day's but found nothing... please do not blame me, i'm not an expert in this domain, help me with a link if i missed to find the answer on my question
I'll assume 2.3.6 is a typo on your part, since it should be 2.3.5, but you can find the CF-root kernel in the relevant thread. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1103399 CF-Root-SGS2_XX_XEO_KI4-v4.4-CWM4.zip
Make sure you have an I9100 and not some variant before flashing anything though.
Next time, instead of spending two days searching (yeah, right), look for stickies and FAQs, they contain everything you need.

Hi there,
Please could someone post relevant information on how to root the Galaxy SII, I have searched a lot of threads and can't seem to find a reasonably safe solution to my question. People say its not possible to root a Galaxy SII lately due to a hardbrick bug in the chip. Please could someone enlighten me on this topic and tell me if it's safe or unsafe. I will post the details on this thread to the best of my knowledge.
Ok here goes;
Model number: GT-I9100
Android version: 4.0.4 (ICS)
Baseband version: I9100XXLQ6
Kernel version: 3.0.15-I9100XWLPT
Build number: IMM76D.XWLPT
Also, I have installed the eMMC brickbug check app from the play store and here is the result i was given;
Brick Bug ? No. Sane chip (no idea what this means but I'm guessing my chip is safe to just flash any Kernel?)
I am just looking to root for now and possibly flash a custom ROM in the near future but at the moment I am happy with the stock firmware but I just want to be able to use Titanium Backup, Superuser & ROM Manager but i am unable to do so until I have rooted my Galaxy SII.
I'm not new to any of this because I previously had a ZTE Blade which I rooted & flashed custom ROMs myself, this was a walk in the park compared to the Galaxy SII. On threads which I have browsed through, some people state to use Siyah Kernel, would this be safe to flash through Odin? Or maybe I could use CF-root.
thank you for reading my post & I'd be so grateful if someone could provide links and/or instructions. Much appreciated!

http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1746794, use that, method 1 always works.
oh and if you just wanna be 100% you wont be affected by brickbug, just flash siyah kernel through odin, that will give you root + CWM recovery
In my opinion, you should go for siyah but pick whatever u prefer
Thank you Poroto, I will probably try the method 1 posted by Phil3759. That looks kind of safe but I'll read through that thread you posted first before I decide. I really appreciate your help

No worries, just remember not to wipe anything on stock 4.0.4 kernel under any circumstances.
Sorry in advance for my lack of not knowing anything, I have only just found out what rooting an android device is/does.
I have already searched long and far on how to root my device but I can not find a place that has the exact specifications as I do. It would be greatly appreciated if you can post me a root and link me to a tutorial of how to root it.
I have a Samsung Galaxy S2 GT-I9100 that I am looking to root, I do not care how.
Specifications
Android Version
4.0.3
Baseband Version
I9100XXLPX
Kernel Version
I9100XWLPI
I believe that is everything that you need to know to be able to help me, also if this is posted in the wrong forum please move it.
Any questions? Just ask!
Thanks in advance,
Jack.

look for siyah kernel, i believe it is version 5.0.1 then install it with odin. but first, you have to know how to use odin. you can learn that by googling how to use desktop odin. make sure you install samsung kies on your computergood luck.

We're not going to regurgitate stuff step by step when it's been done thousands of times before here over the past two & a half years. There is a thread stickied near the top of Q&A which has a simple root method (and the whole point of having this thread stickied is so this stuff doesn't have to be posted in thread after thread for any n00b who can't search).
If that guide doesn't do it for you, search better. I mean, this phone was released 2.5 yrs ago, hundreds of thousands of people have rooted the phone with info found here, and that info is easily found by searching.
Same Phone Version... No kernel found.
I have the exact same phone description.
I went trought a lot of tread and list of kernel that I was suppose to choose from: I didnt find anything that correspond to my kernel version so far. It might be that I am not a total expert and that I am not able to recognise the proper download or we got a very rare version???
I tried a dozen so far, never work for all the possible reasons.
I know the process, I know all I need to know. I just dont find the one that fits my phone.
shanty31 Did you succeed finding one working? Anyone can only point out the proper kernel I need?
Thats gonna be my christmas present
Its not rare at all.Its the standard build for unbranded UK for starters.
kah!
Are you done spamming the board ? (you do realise mods will delete your posts if they see you're posting crap to get 10 up).

At least hes not moaning lol.......
Ok... not rare. But still. Does that help me?
ANY kernel I tried end up with my phone not booting, boot loop, not switching on.
In ALL the list of kernel I have found so far, not a single one ''look like'' to be corresponding to what I need. Is there something I dont understand?
Yes I am new to rooting, but I have read and try and test.
The only thing I know I am doing wrong is FINDING the kernel corresponding to what I need.
It is no use to post anything if it is only to laugh at me or to tell me obvious things... I have done my homework.
Thank you again gang!
Amit
I am still searching for the right kernel version to complete the step to root my phone, but unfortunately not able to do that.
If possible, any one can share the right link to root the above version of phone we have.
Thank you
Best Regards,
Amit

Hi! I found something that work :
You read that tread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1877270
In the post #3 there is instruction for a method without using Odin.
I used that file:
PhilZ-cwm6-XWLSZ-OJC-5.15.9-signed
Found at this location in SEARCH section: (or use Google)
http://d-h.st/
Don't Unzip the file, leave it as it is.
I was not expecting using that method... it end up to be easier and faster than Odin.
My phone is now Unlock and work perfectly
Leave me your feedback of how it went with your phone... or any question

You may check this website
There are also many useful information about your phone.
Why are you linking people to guides on other sites ?
It's a bit hard for other people here to help this person with that method if they get stuck (as if you're going to be around 24/7). I'm certainly not even going to look at anything related to rooting on another site for that reason, plus chances are the information has been lifted from here anyway.
There is a wealth of information on this subject on this site, please refer people to that in future rather than info off site for such a basic query.
