Hi All,
In the Applications screen, I have arranged the icons there but after reboot or disconnecting from PC, my icons rearranges themselves.
I have searched and in xda-dev, only one guy has posted the same problem in xperia mini:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=998357
I don't have any SD card inserted so I'm not sure why.. (I've seen discussions that apps moved to SD card will make their icons run around)
Can anybody please assist?
Running Android 2.3.4, GINGERBREAD.UHKG7
Thanks!
Mine also does the same
Unfortunately I don't find any solution yet

I use AppZorter to put the apps in alphabetical order
Genius and saves me alot of time trying to move countless icons to different pages whilst trying to get them in order ... Only for somd of them to move on reboot.

hi chrisjcks,
thanks for your feedback but I don't want to arrange it alphabetically.
I want to sort it by my preference which would be in pages: apps, games, settings+mod, etc.
You can create folders and move your apps into them. I do it, the folders keep arranged as I pleced them. The apps inside, however, keep re-sorting as before. But if you have small folders, it's much better as if all apps are in a complete mess as it's without having folders.
Hi skr68,
yes i understand about the folders but it's sad having to create folders when we can have as many apps pages as we want..
can anybody else assist in advicing how to stop the icons moving around?
i'm currently using other launcher but it will not allow pages to be not full..
go to settings > applications > manage applications and the "on SD card" tab
the galaxy s2 partitions its internal memory in 2gb of ROM and the rest as an sdcard, so whether you have an external sdcard inserted or not, apps might still be being installed on the "sdcard"
have a look and see if any are ticked, open them and move them to the phone memory and see if the issue persists
Well, that might not *quite* be what he wanted to know...
We are talking about the icons here, not app installation paths.

Yes it the only thing I don't like about Touchwiz, You will have to use a 3rd party launcher like launcher plus or ADW launcher if you want that feature.
hi viva.fidel,
yes there are items listed "On SD Card" but they are not ticked - i opened them and the option is to move to SD card, no option to move to phone memory..any further advice?
Thanks!
hi jhernand1102,
i don't think it's limited to touchwiz, you can see the same problem with xperia mini at http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=998357
hi, any help?
I think what is being said is that apps on SD are displayed after others because it needs to mount and scan at boot time, this is what is killing the order in the launcher.
What I really want to figure out is if there is some way I can modify the touchwiz launcher to always arrange alphabetically.

hi alias_neo,
yes i understand that but i don't have any sd card installed and if you see post ten, none of the apps "on sd card" is ticked too..
anyway, gave up and decided to use after market launchers..currently using GO Launcher
I'm running KG6 on a SGS2 and I was also having this problem. I found a solution though.
1. Install AppZorter Lite from the Android Marketplace.
2. Open AppZorter and select 'Settings'.
3. Select 'Advanced settings'.
4. Select 'Recover application menu'.
This will reset the application menu on the home screen and the icons in the app draw.
5. Move applications to your desired locations in the app draw.
6. Restart and enjoy app icons where you want them to be.
@ _Sledz_
thanks for the valuable input!

A simple solution would be to use adw free or paid. You can make catalogs and sort your apps as you want.
However touchwiz does not have any such features except moving apps around and making folders
app icons keep moving
my app icons keep moving around after I place them where I want them too. Probably the most annoying thing I've discovered about this phone.
Infuse 4G

You can't just move the android_secure onto a new sd card and to a new rom. you need to use titanium backup. root and then get from market for free.
I'm sorry if this is already adressed in another thread, but I searched and could not find anything; if there is another thread I would be happy if someone would direct me there.
I have been using this site to help decide on getting the nook, and to figure out how to root the nook. Now that it is rooted I am having 2 problems. The first is that I have run out of room on the device and can not update any of the apps until I remove some, and I was wondering if there was a way to put them on the SD card. I've gone into the nook color tools, manage apps, and selected an app that I was told would deffinitely work from the SD card, Angry Birds, and selected "move to SD card" and it says, failed to move.
The second problem is that the 'n' button only takes me to the zeam launcher, whereas before when I hit the 'n' button it would open a menu asking me if I wanted to go home or to the zeam launcher. Is there a way to get this option back?
For the latter question, go to Settings->Applications->Manage Applications, then choose Zeam and click the "Clear defaults" button.
How about the former?
Manual nooter supports apps to sd. You may still run out of room though.
Eventually.

I think you need dal's kernel as well.
If i install dal's kernel, what would that do to my device? aside from allowing applications to be moved to the sd card.
Moving the purchased or built in Nook apps to SD causes them to appear uninstalled to the Nook Store.
I was having the same issue, but I left the Nook apps alone and moved ALL other eligible apps to SD. Once I did this I am able to add Nook apps with no problem.
I did start from scratch and add all Nook apps first, this makes things much easier.
Hi Guys
Had a SGS2 for a couple of weeks now and have been enjoying it.
However one major niggle.
I've setup four folders: Games, Productivity, Creativity and General. Into these four folders I have distrubuted my apps accordingly. Then these folders were placed on my home screen. The problem is that randomly the apps move out of these folders and scatter themselves back into various places, either on my apps menu or even stranger within another folder. The folders on the home screen are untouched as the shortcut isn't in live contact with original folder.
This is on original KDD stock rom, no root. Anybody else having the same problem?
i have the same problem with one particular app - he keeps escaping from the folder that i put him in. he's a very naughty boy !
no idea why though. i think it might be to do with installing new apps.
do you use the touchwiz a-z sorter app at all ?
No. Not used any sorter or changed from icon to list view.
I think you may be right about installing apps though.

I have recently purchased galaxy SII (3 weeks ago) and previously i was on a Nokia Symbian based mobile i.e E72..I've been installing lots of apps in my s2 from past 2 weeks and deleting lots of apps which i didn't like..but now im noticing that my sII is becoming slower in performance..It helds sometimes and overall its not as smooth as it used to be when it first came ,im using apps like adavncd task killer,NQ android booster etc to help me speed it up but they don't seem to help much..so is there any way to really maintain the performance and keep it as smooth and optimal as possible??any other good free apps tht can help achieve good performance?
secondly,i have my contcts from previous mobile saved in my pc but i dont know to i should transfer em to S2..any way for tht??i manually added few contacts to s2 and i noticed tht those who had watsapp also started to appear in my contact list rather thn in the whatsapp application..is this normal?
thirdly as i mentioned tht ive been installing lots of apps i wanted to know if there's a particular way i can organize all of the apps that im installing in my s2??i want games to be set in a particular games folder, camera related apps in another and so on ..so is there a way to organize applications in folders??i tried using application folder and folder editor but they showed folders in the application itself not on the application menu bar ..in iphone people simply drag apps on top of each other to put em in folders so is there any solution to this in s2??it becomes tough to manage apps otherwise...i also wanna knw tht in application menu i cant move apps frm one page to another,i can only move them to my home screen..any solution for this??
and lastly i want to know tht right nw i don't have an sd card in my s2 so is it better to have an sd card an put all apps in the sd card or is it fine if im placing em in phone memory??does it effect performance?
im new to android
my s2 has android 4.0.4
not rooted
any help will be appreciated
Thankyou
right firstly task killers are a killer-by using a task killer you are stopping your device caching the memory or reserving it. when you kill an app in that way the os uses more memory to open the app from scratch. i find a swift reboot helps performance. much like my laptop i rebuild/reinstall windows every 8-10 months to maintain performance. i have on occasion after 6 months factory reset my phone just to get the new feeling!
with regards to folders and organisation you can delete folders that relate to apps you no longer have. just make sure not know which one you delete! i wouldn't think this would help with performance but i wouldn't rule it out.
lastly organising apps into specific folders is possible. in touchwiz you can open the app drawer, select menu (lower left button) choose edit, from here you will see folder and page at the bottom of the screen.if you want to move apps to a folder start dragging icons into the folder one by one when done click into the folder and you will have the opportunity to rename it to something other than "folder" same method goes for the page one too- it just allows a much quicker way to organise your app icons in the drawer!
I am using go launcher at the moment and that gives the opportunity to drag icons on top of one another and group them into folders very quickly!

1. I will answer this question last. this is because there other reasons why your phone is slow.
2. Uninstall every task killer. You probably don't need it
3. It depends on how those contacts are saved. so you will need to elaborate on how the contacts are saved on your pc. and their format. Do you still have access to your old Symbian device?
4. This is normal. if you don't want them to show in your contacts, then uncheck whatsapp contacts from the Contact application ( options, contact to display, uncheck whatsapp)
5. Your default launcher, Touchwiz, already has this function, just drag an icon over another. There are good alternative launchers too like Go launcher EX, etc that support this function
6. There is no need to install apps on Sd, except you run out of space. It shouldn't affect performance too.
Follow these steps to improve performance
1. Uninstall apps you don't need or use at all
2. Disable some preinstalled apps you don't use.
- To disable any app,
Go to Settings > Apps > All > Select the app you wish to disable > Force stop the app, then select disable.
Visit here and here for list of apps you can safely disable.
Note that there some apps you can never disable without root even if you wish to do so.
3. Boot to Recovery (Power off your device, Hold Volume up button + home button + power button, release the buttons as soon as your phone lights up)
- in recovery, Select wipe Cache
- reboot phone.
Done.
you should notice performance improvements now.

2)Done,i've deleted all the task killers.
3)I dont have access to my old symbian phone, its dead....Contacts are saved in vCard file format (.vcf)..
4)yeah i've unchecked whatsapp,its fine now.
5)i've figured out how to put em in folders,i can organize apps easily now ..
6)currently my apps are being installed in system storage and it shows that 892MB out of 1.97GB is already covered (although ive remove lots of apps)..I think i'll have to switch to an SD card ultimately coz otherwise i mite experience storage probs in future otherwise..
Question..y arent apps being installed in the USB storage rather thn system storage??what is being stored in USB storage thn and how do i access it?if i want to add songs,i will simply connect usb and add em to the music folder? or theres some other way?
I've uninstalled many apps and disabled some too (those shown in the URL link)..
i've wiped the cache by going in recovery mode too..
i can see significant difference in the performance,i much bttr..doesnt lag much like before ..
There's an app named "gamehub" can i disable it too?although its name is not in the URL link u provided..its a built in app..i dont play games on such apps so i thought i shud disable it,is it safe to do so?some apps start by themselves,is there a way i can control which app shud start automatically n which shud not?
As im new to android,i dont know much about the good apps, games etc...do you have any link where i can see the top apps, themes, personalization, games etc of all times?
thanks a lot man..
Game hub is fine to delete along with readers readers hub and music hub.
If you want ultimate control over uninstalling apps I would suggest rooting your phone and installing Titanium Backup Pro or Rom Toolbox.
You can remove any app (be careful) and choose which apps start up on boot etc. As well as MUCH more.
You have complete control with these apps
For top games simply go to play store. They have a top games section

1. You can simply export those contacts to your android.
- Copy the .vcf file(s) to your phone.
- open your contact application, press options, and select export contacts from sdcard.
2.a) Don't worry about the space until you receive warnings. Applications installed on phone memory are loaded faster.
B.) You can use the pre-installed file manager (my files) to check that. If you are not satisfied with it, you can download third-party alternatives in market
C.) Yes. You can copy them to any folder as well, your music player will find them
3.
A.) You can disable it
B.) I can't tell you will app should start or not. I don't know everything on your phone.
You need Root access in order to disable startup apps

Does every Cyanogenmod rom allow that by default, or dit it die with version 11 or 12 being the last one?
If installing directly to SD is a no go, what good apps are there that do the transfer (and keep everything working, of course
I would recommend Link2SD.
I have used it with satisfaction on several low memory devices.
Not sure why, I find Link2SD and its options terribly confusing Well, I guess I'll need to learn.
There are a lot of guides and it's not so complex.
The best way to use it is to create a second partition on sd (consider a backup of your data on pc/otg/cloud/...).
As far as I can remember link2sd will ask you the filesystem type and then it will create some script to use it.
Then you can simply tap on an app from the list and press "link to sd".
From the apps list you can do a lot of operation like convert apps to system/user app, freeze/unfreeze, merge an updated app to rom etc. and using the filter this kind of operation will be very easy and fast.
EDIT:
On the plus (paid) version you can link also data.
If you really want to maximize the free space on the device, this option is worth the few moneys.
EDIT2:
I've always used it on other devices using AOSP based roms, I don't know if there are problems using it with MIUI.
Thanks a lot! So, if you "link" (strange choice of word, it's not actually linking if it gets completely moved to SD and nothing remaing in main storage is it, that's what confused the hell out of me), app and its data to SD, will it be exactly like it was downloaded and installed on SD right from the store, like it used to be on Android versions that supported such thing? I know Cyanogenmod 11 did that perfectly, wonder if it's CM thing by default, or did they moved to new (stupid) concept of raping the main storage in later versions
EDIT: Any chance of "linking" bloody Whatsapp to SD completely? I'm in continuous maintenance mode of my wife phone because that **** consumes the storage for all it's worth.

Linking is not the same as moving.
For example, if you move to sd and then remove the sd from the device, widgets and app icons will be removed.
Maybe they will be restored when you insert your sd again, but the order could not be the same.
The same doesn't happen linking.
There are also other benefits, try googling for "link2sd faq".

I'm not using whatsapp so I don't know if it works.
I guess that your are talking about the "whatapp" directory on which msgs and media are store.
If link2sd can't solve your problem, I think that can try to move the whatsapp directory to sd and then manually create a link (keep the original name) on the original position.
Or you can try with apps like foldermount
EDIT:
try looking at this thread
Maybe your can try xposed app..xinternalsd..swap sdcard to be phone memory
