[Q] Browser Issues with Zooming and Scrolling - Galaxy S II Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hey guys, I have an SGS2 running KG6 (rooted and flashed back the official KG6 firmware). I have an issue with the stock browser where if I try to scroll or even do the two finger zoom in/out, it won't animate the scrolling action, or the zooming action. It'll just load the page directly. It's like its constantly on precise scrolling.
Is there any way to fix this?

[Q] Disable Double-tap zoom or zoom in general

Is there a way to disable the double-tap zoom on the web browser for 2.1 root? It's very irritating since every time I tap on a text field, it auto double taps and zooms in. It is just very inconvenient for me.
Get a better browser...
Opera
Dolphin
etc
etc
What if I'm happy with the browser I'm using? I've tried other browsers and I just don't like them.
You clearly aren't happy with your current browser if its doing something you don't want it too...
Asking on here won't get you much else. I'm assuming you have checked the settings. What do you expect from us? There is no magic off button that is hidden away afaik.
FYI - try running the ACID3 test on the built in browser and then tell me you're happy with it...
I'm not sure exactly what this test proves, but I scored a 99/100 on the default browser.
It's just a little annoyance. I was only wondering if there was a way to do so that isn't within a normal method to disable.
I don't expect anything, I was just curious if someone had insight.

[Q] SG2 Browser scrolling "scroll lock"

When scrolling through a website on the browser I have noticed that if you start scrolling strictly vertically or horizontally the browser "sticks" in this direction for while, and then lets go. The scrolling is not completely fluid. I find this EXTREMELY annoying especially when trying to scroll in a diagonal direction.
Is there any way to remove this vertical & horizontal "scroll lock"
i noticed this too on a few occasions. at first it got me worried that there was a zone in the screen not registering touch input (i had this issue on my atrix which is why i ditched it).
but i haven't really had any problems anywhere else...
i heard there was an app out that fixes some sensitivity issues for the sgs2. try 'touchscreen booster' from the market and play with the settings a bit. let me know if that fixes your problem
I have the touch screen sensitivity app already ( which is included in a lot of kernels). i noticed the scrolling improvement thought the phone but still have the same issue with the browser. im suprissed that this isnt a hot topic. i hope some one can figure it out eventually.

It isnt a hot topic because its not an issue everyone is getting....so far only two of you are reporting it
It doesnt happen to my stock browser, or my friends
It might help if we knew what firmware you are running
Plus, this has nothing to do with development - this should be in Q&A

I think this is a "feature" to make it easy to scrool up/down and left/right(So you don't have to adjust if you read a long page).

+1. This is a "feature" lol. And I like it. It would be hard to read long pages without it.
lol'd
I'd resurrect this topic, because this problem is driving me nuts.
I LOVED scroll lock, and now after ICS update there are only problems. The only browser that I found to offer working scroll lock is Firefox, but it has some disadvantages. Opera Mobile has partially good scrolling, but double-tap-to-zoom fails if you disable text wrapping.
Now I use Firefox + Tasker to kill it when it's in background. I got used to scroll lock so much with stock SGS2 browser and exPDF that I can't comfortably read stuff without it. Today I also tried Boat Browser, Dolhpin, Maxthon, Skyfire, and they all failed. Can't they make browser that would behave just like exPDF? There are tons of features, but I think that web browser is actually for reading stuff.

Lock scrolling

Hello,
I'm new on this forum, and I didn't have find answer to my question on the previous thread, so I open a new one.
Since the upgrade from android 2.3.3 to 2.3.6 (and now on ICS 4.0.3.) (all official ROM for Samsung), one of the functionality of the browser does not work anymore:
Previously with a double tap on the screen, the browser zoom to fix the width of the paragraph and allow scrolling only on the vertical axis, locking the horizontal movement.
Now, the zoom doesn’t fix to the width of the paragraph anymore and scrolling is in both directions… It’s not easy to read a web page with this zooming and scrolling feature.
So first of all, have I missed an option some were? If not, is there application or other browser providing this feature?
Qrun
This is a leaked ICS 4.0.3 can call it beta. Official will be coming next month.
Regarding stock browser. Open Browser - Settings (Menu) ->Advanced -> scroll down to Auto-fit pages . Tick that box.
Restart browser.
The pages should now only able to scroll up & down.
And dont request desktop site from browser to avoid the horizontal scroll issue
Thanks for your answer, it partially fixed the problem of the zoom, but did not solve the problem of scrolling.
I have found a partial solution with Dolphin HD : I use the fit to screen and adress the scrolling on the volume button, but it's not as convenient as the utilisation of the touchscreen.

Vertical scrolling Auto-fit text in Browser

Right, so when I was on Intratech's KK5 (2.3.6) rom, I used to use the Browser with the 'Auto-fit pages' setting ticked under browser settings.
This let me double-tap anywhere on the overview page to zoom in, and the browser would fit it in a neat vertical column with the text zoomed in. Scrolling up and down maintained a straight track vertically without the page veering left and right. You could read the column and scroll down to the next section with ease.
Now I'm on XWLA4 (2.3.6). With auto-fit enabled, double-tapping does zoom the page into the text with it re-aligned at a bigger size. But if you try to scroll down, it doesn't scroll vertically straight making the user experience worse than before and more frustrating.
So I extracted the Browser.apk from KK5 and adb copied it over the existing Browser of LA4. I was shocked to see, even the old browser behaving like the LA4 one! It wouldn't lock into a vertical scroll. It seems Samsung have done something elsewhere (framework?) independent of the browser that affects this. Sure the new LA4 browser feels zippier (placebo effect?) but I'd rather have the older performance if it meant I can auto-fit the text and scroll down easily without the page wobbling and me concentrating on trying to keep my finger as straight as possible.
Was wondering if things have improved with the official ICS rom?

[Q] Horizontal scrolling inside an e-mail

As I didn't find anything related, I wonder if anyone else have come across this, or if it's just my device.
When I open up an e-mail and scroll to the right, this is what happens:
First scroll seems fine, when I drag from right to left using the entire screen area.
On the second scroll, I put my finger on the right side of the screen, and when I start dragging to the left, the image jumps back 1/3 to the right, before moving to the left again.
This problem came right after I upgraded to 4.0.3 (stock I9100XXLPQ) and never happened on 2.3.6.
Tried both native email client and Enhanced Email from the marked. Same issue.
Seems to be related to e-mail clients only, as scrolling horizontally in the native browser and the gallery works just fine. Also dragging left/right in the Nova launcher is very smooth.
Anyone have an idea about what could be the cause to this problem?

Ok let me put this in a nice way. Samsung completely screwed up the scrolling in ICS. So to answer your question: Samsung is the cause of your problem...
Just flash your gingerbread or a good old cm9.
Have a good day :]
