[Q] Samsung Galaxy S2 Firmware History - Galaxy S II Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hey...
I wanted to know about details of available Samsung Galaxy S2 firmwares what changes did each bring?
Mine is XXKF1. When I connect my phone through KIES it says that its the latest one available. Is it really the latest one?

I believe that is your latest firmware available from your carrier.
If you're not patient enough for your carrier to release firmware updates, you can flash updated firmwares by visiting this thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1075278
Don't forget to say thanks in his thread if you found his post useful.
If you're feeling a little "adventurous", you can try flashing Custom Roms, that are based on the KH3 firmware (latest leaked firmware right now).
Hope I helped,

No change log flash them all and test if you want to find out .

As posted above if Kies says its the latest for your phone then it is .

[Q] Few questions

Hello,
I purchased my Galaxy S2 back in May and right now, I am running the following:
I9100XXKDH
I am from the UK and was wondering if a official upgraded firmware versions has been released for UK phones after I9100XXKDH? I can't seem to download the latest version from Kies as my phone is having trouble connecting to it. I have tried everything. Is there another way to install the official latest update?
Thanks.
Look here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1075278 for the firmware you require. Then flash with Odin.
If you don't know what Odin is try searching the forum
KF2 probably latest general UK release but not all networks .
Odin does not install the official update that you get from the phone provider it installs stock Samsung rom .
Stock rom topic in dev section .

[Q] SGS2 - Official Android firmware ?

Hello,
I'm having a Samsung Galaxy s2 (GT-I9100) and I'm from India. Here, the latest android version as released by samsung is 2.3.3. And there are no updates whatsoever ! I want to update my android version. Is there any ofiicial samsung android release for sgs2 ? (2.3.4 or 2.3.5) ? I do not want to use install modded version of android ...
Thanks in advance ... !!
What have you tried so far? KIES or in the about update menu from within the phone? They're difference processes (funny, right? lol).
Try it via KIES.
I'm in England, I've also not yet rooted my S2 (although I probably will, to get rid of the bloatware crap- i.e. Game Hub etc)
We've only got a 2.3.4 official firmware available here. Sometimes this is up to your service provider to release it.
Your other option is to root, and flash an official firmware.
Or take a giant leap and read the INDIAN thread .

2.3.3 is the latest available for i9100 in india ..how ever you can install European countries firmware which is 2.3.6 latest...
you can meet other indian gs2 users here
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1108787&page=611
just download the latest version from http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1075278 ..... i am currenlty using UK one and it works like a gem....if u want to root instructions are there in the same link.....
why u want to stuck to the old ones when you have the latest firmware, eventhough not for india.....but it works.....
@smilingcruel: Thanks for your reply and I did check the link there. There are loads of them. Which one to install ?
Same question, different country:
I have to revert my S2 to Samsung (annoying echo).
Currently it is on Miui.
I'd like to flash the latest Vodafone Germany version to preserve the secondary binary counter.
Does anybody know whether THIS is the latest and via Kies available version?
If it is not which is the right and latest one?

[Q] No available update on kies (even though i should have!)

Hi all, I'm new to posting here but a vet over at samdroid.
I've looked around quite a bit and my problem seems to be unique...annoyingly.
I got my S2 on contract from O2 about 4 days ago, instantly went home and found out I was eligible to upgrade to ICS officially via kies. I have been on kies and connected my phone every day since, and I keep getting told I have the latest version (2.3.5), even though I've seen countless threads/comments of people delighted about the fact they upgraded through kies!
I was thinking of trying odin (i was a pro at updating roms on my spica), but don't know if using an offical update through odin instead of kies would void my warranty etc. NOTE: I don't want to actually root my phone (yet)
I hope that all made sense and any help would be much appreciated
Thanks,
Oli

make sure you got i9100 not any other varient
does other O2 in your area got ICS via KIES
odin is fine and will not void warrenty aslong you dont root and flash back the ROM you have now. you have to find this ROM first if you want to go back.

what do you mean by this?
also is there an official rom for my particular S2 that can be updated using odin? or even an unofficial one that wont void warranty?
thanks for all the help guys
This Thread has instructions and official ICS.
Plz note that this is official and will have TouchWiz and does look extremely similar to Gingerbread and without root and custom theme you will not get that ICS feel. You will however get most of the goodies that ICS has to offer.
I got my S2 on contract from O2 about 4 days ago, instantly went home and found out I was eligible to upgrade to ICS officially via kies.
Well that's not exactly true you upgrade if their is an upgrade for your exact phone .
Kies has firmware for GT-i9100KAO2U product code .
I have been on kies and connected my phone every day since, and I keep getting told I have the latest version (2.3.5), even though I've seen countless threads/comments of people delighted about the fact they upgraded through kies!
But not for your phones product code which obviously does not match the released O2 firmware .O2 may well and probably over twelve months had more than one phone for sale unless contract has different codes to PAYG .
Standard older O2 UK firmware for xxx Product codes is on Kies its also on this forum in a legitimate flash via Odin .
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1544487
legitimate O2 firmware not stock Samsung tested and works on O2 .
Or you can go to Google find CHECKFUS and try to download from your codes .
jje
you still didnt confirm if you have i9100P which i think you have but i could'nt find the Stock ROM your running now, so you can go back to it later if required.
if you have i9100P this thread has good news for you though the actuall thread is stupid and useless...
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=24030713
i think what happened to u is you got the model which is i9100P not the usuall i9100, thus all on normal model are on ICS and you still on GB. you can wait for it to come or use the i9100 ROM's but please search if that is actually possible.

i read somewhere that i can use i9100 firmwares on my i9100P, so which of those 2 links would you recommend? also, is there a lot of risk or is it pretty easy and you're just covering yourself?
finally, if i update like this, will i be able to update officially through kies when the update is finally released for me?
no im not covering my self...... i tell you in points....
1: you got I9100P on O2 for which i cant find a firmware for.
2: because you cant go back to your old firmware which is O2 you will get into warrenty problems

ok, i guess i'll wait for the official update then. thanks for your help
here are your options if you still want to continue.
1: you can flash stock firmware for i9100.
2: you can flash custom firmware
3: you can flash O2 branded firmware for i9100.
but in all cases NFC wont work by default.
plus now you cant go back to O2 i9100P firmware as it cannot be found anywhere... atleast by me.

[Q] Updating i9100 from Gingerbread 2.3.5

I'm entirely new to this so try to bear with me
I recently bought a Galaxy SII from a one day deals store and it arrived running Gingerbread 2.3.5. I want to update to the latest version available for the SII however the OTA update won't connect to the server and Kies (after at least two hours trying to get it to recognise my device) has told me that my current firmware can't be updated. Unless someone knows an obvious fix for Kies I guess I'm stuck with having to flash the new firmware using Odin. I'm using a guide on CNET (unfortunately I can't post links yet) that goes through installing ICS but replacing ICS with Jelly Bean.
The biggest problem is which firmware to get. My CSC code is OXA (Open Europe). Do I have to find firmware that matches that or can I just chose any one that I please then follow the guide that I'm using? I've been looking on SamMobile and there is a lot of different regions to chose from but none of them have the OXA CSC code and I don't know what to do. Also, is there anything I should look out for? I don't want to brick my phone.
Thanks in advance for your help. I'm sure it gets tiresome helping people like me.

There you go OXA It seems open Europe ended at 2.3.5 .. No wonder you can't update.. Anyway Poland's firmware should work just fine. Or just search the firmware of your own region. Do remember to do a factory reset after flashing JellyBean!
Alternately I recommend this. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1544487 Its the latest firmware Samsung has to offer.

Thanks for the speedy reply. I think I understand now. The CSC is really only relevant to your current version. If I flash Jelly Bean from another region the CSC will just change to that region and still work as normal? Does it have any effect whatsoever on the function of the phone?

Yes CSC is bundled with the firmware. Dunno why but every time I flash a firmware it does not come with CSC and I must flash it manually.. Now that's a whole other story. If you plan on flashing a firmware not related to you region e.g you flash a European firmware while you stay in Asia then the CSC is quite pointless as kies won't let you update through it anyway. That said you must have the correct CSC/Firmware/Modem and region to recieve official updates through Kies. If not updating via Odin is good as well .

Well I live in New Zealand and the phone that I have has the European CSC code. The site that I got it from is called 1-day who claim to find the best prices from around the world in order to give ridiculously low prices. I assume that means that my phone came all the way over from Europe. Based on what you say then, I assume then that the CSC wouldn't matter in my case anyway as even stock, my CSC is in the wrong region?

[Q] Cant update my international version SIII

Hi, today January the first my old and venerable Galaxy S2 alerted me that an update was available and I accepted it and the process went fine. The version update is now the 4.1.2.
My brand new S3 international version (Amazon bought) and unlocked has alerted me more than 6 times there was an update available, I did the same as in the SII and accepted all the messages, the phone rebooted and the Android logo appeared and below there was a percentage bar showing the process update advance, when it got to the 32 % the logo changed from standing to laying with an red triangle with an I at stomach level over it and the phone restarted.
When finally the reboot finished a new alert opened saying software update and thats is all.
My phone actually is running Android 4.04 and also my old S2 has a later version.
I also tried through Kies and the program was unable to do the update.
The phone is unlocked and rooted
What recommendation can I get to update it
Best regards.
Thor Hedderich
You can't update becouse phone is rooted as you stated above. You should unroot your phone (use search, you have tut here on xda) and than run update.
sent from sgs3 -stock 4.3 open europe rom

You dont need to unroot. Just update via kies or download your firmware from sammobile.com and flash with odin. your choice.
I would recommend that later one.

Again here, have just tried to update the phone through Kies and got the following :
Model name : GT-I9300
GT-I9300 does not admit initialization
Error messages capture.
View attachment 2488009
View attachment 2488010,
It is in Spanish but I translated it, and there is another error message :
The device does not admit software update through Kies
Actual Firmware version : PDA:LH3 / PHONE : LH1 / CSC:LH2 (XXX)
Just another thing before I rooted my device which I also did with my S2 I tried also to update the phone manually and through Kies and always got the same errors.
What do you think would be the best way, I read somewhere there was an update but if this was applied I could not apply later any custom ROM and probably I could also brick the phone so I am worried about this.
Regards and waiting for support,

Your phone won't upgrade OTA because its rooted however it will upgrade via Kies rooted or not. That error message has nothing to do with root.
If you use KIES choose TOOLS > FIRMWARE UPGRADE & INITIALISATION. This method is a deep clean method which will require you to enter phone serial number and imei to ensure your phone is legit for your country of upgrade and is registered with a network.
It will take a while but will upgrade to the latest FW for your country, completely wipe the phone and remove root.
