[Q] Best way to file the tab to a SG2 phone - Galaxy Tab 10.1 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I am trying to find the best way that I can easily access/stream files from my phone to my tablet.
So far I have tried:
- Bluetooth. Too slow
- Kies. Could not connect the devices together after repeated attempts
The phone has wifi direct, but the tablet does not seem to. What android apps offer the best seamless file sharing? I tried bump, did not like it. I suppose if I had the usb adapter I could connect the phone as a mass storage device, but I don't have the adapter yet and I'd like to keep it wireless anyhow.
Rob

Websharing is my favorite

Have you tried DropBox? It works great between the home computer, phone and tablet.

'swiFTP FTP Server' to create a local server. use 'andFTP' to connect to that server. both free in the android market

Is it possible to stream with andftp?
I can't see how in the free version but maybe pro does??

I'm a big fan of sugar sync, as you can see from my signature. Just like dropbox, but has more free space and no cap if you get more people referred

i tried it with Samba Filesharing. I was able to find my phone but wasnt able to connect to it. Did it while in Hotspot mode on my phone.

[Q] Use Android phone as samba server over portable wifi hotspot?

I used an app Samba file sharing for android and this makes my phone a samba server. I was then easily able to access my SD card on my laptop on LAN (wifi).
I now have a mapped network drive for my SD Card and it is super easy to transfer data to my SDCard.
But(I tried this, but was unsuccessful), I want to use my phone as a portable wifi hotspot and then use my phone as a samba server so that I can easily share my SDCard contents with any other (android) device which connects to my phone's wifi network. Is it possible?
This is what I was thinking the other day when I was at a freinds house when I didn't have my cable with me and he does not have a WiFi router, I had to email him the file which was about 5mb which would of been alot faster for his laptop to connect and pull the file from my phone on its own.
Very interested if this can be done.......
I guess the app would have to deal out dhcp and dns
+1 - really want this, would be so much better than using Bluetooth to shift files from one droid to another without a router. Don't really see why Samba reports 'wifi is down' when there's an active client connected to the hotspot
What about using you phone as a portable wifi hotspot and switching on an ftp server?
Edit: just tried it with "ftp server" and hotspot switched on. Appeared to work but have no-one to test with :-(

Anyone ever get this working?
I've tried this using "LAN Manager" from play store. And using a beelink gt1 ultimate TV box as client. It working fine so far. But if I boot the box with CoreELEC, I'm able to connect but file read is extremely slow.

Try kies Wi-Fi.

Even kies wifi needs a home network..

you can start up a hotspot on the phone and use SWIFTP to host an ftp server off the phone
Use the phone's Wifi Tethering option or the freeware "Connecitfy" on the computer to create a Wifi network and then use an app like SAMBA Fileshare to transfer the files.
Afaik Wifi Direct is a software-only protocol which uses sort of apoint-to-point Adhoc network so there is no reason why computers should not be able to use it, at least no technical. You'd need the corresponding tools / drivers though and to my knowledge none such exist.
I have always found es file explorer to work extremely well. You do need to spend a little time to become familiar with interface but really is great for moving files etc. I use it to over files on/from/to my htpc if the wife is watching her junk. Just make sure you have a static ip on your pc to allow for auto login when you open app rather than scanning and login in every time
ist about that you are awesome because tou are imaginary or exist in another world
Hi
Both Intel (My WiFi Dashboard) and Qualcomm-Atheros (Direct Connection) have a client that is supposed to be "WiFi direct" certified and should allow for Direct Peer-Peer connection between the Phone and PC without the need for an access point or other routing device.
I have been unable to get either to work with my SGH-i927 Captivate Glide !

The only place I could find the Atheros client was on OEM sites like this for Dell(Sony and HP also have it)

turn your android device into a wifi drive?

is there an app that turns your android device into a wifi drive? like air stash.... i have tried on air app but it actually requires you to be connected to a wireless network... what i want is an app that turns your android device into a wifi access point drive (with no wifi network needed in between)
I know you can use Bluetooth to transfer files. But an app to transfer files using your data connection as a "substitute" wifi hotspots and then being able to directly transfer files over the connection? Sounds good but I've never heard of such an app. Obviously u can tether but all that does is share the internet data connection with other devices.

i actually want the android device to be used exactly as the air stash without a third party network in between... considering the high price of the air stash, i rather buy a cheap Chinese android tablet instead that i could use like the air stash(if an app to do so exists)
this might be helpful

[Q] Transfer Large Files From PC To Device

sup,
i wanted this device as a media tablet, i currently use plex on ipad to watch media which reqs having a computer on to stream it which isnt ideal. I tried usb and was so slow and then i tried the xperia connect thing which transfer ed one hd movie (7.64gb) in 10mins+ thats far too slow to be useful.
does anyone know of a way to transfer much faster than that, using wifi ideally since my router has 600+ on the 5ghz band?
apps: AirDroid, TotalCommander (has FTP, SFTP, SMB plugins) and a bunch more.
Superbeam.

Download the PC client on your Web browser.
Be aware though. The XZ2 is restricted on its wi-fi download speeds.

Ive actually tried superbeam. It's very buggy and frequently drops connect no matter what I try.
Do you mean with the setting "wifi optimization"? I've unchecked that and get somewhere in the region of 460mbps from the tablet and z2 phone on 5ghz. It seems really odd to me that transfers are so slow, even via USB. It's a brand new device, they should have this crap sorted by now. It seems transfer rates haven't improved at all since android's conception.

Wifi will always suck for large files. It's never going to actually run at the speed it says it can do. Copying to a MicroSD directly using the pc and then putting the MicroSD into the tablet will always be quickest. Don't forget to change the disk policy in Windows to performance or it won't be the best speed.

View and Control Nokia 8 from PC

Hi all,
Just bought my Nokia 8 the other day. Got it for AUD$499! from Harvey Norman - who was out of stock - but price matched by JB Hi-fi.
I was using a Samsung Note 4, which was doggone slow. Might be resetting that one and putting it up for sale - any potential takers?
My Note 4 used SideSync, which connected to by PC via USB cable. Sidesynced allowed me to see and control my Note4 on my PC. I can do everything on the phone from my PC - I liked sending texts and SMS for example.
There doesn't appear to be an equivalent for the Nokia 8. I have seen alot of mirroring apps that require screen casting, but none which allows connection via USB.
The question - what is the equivalent out there to SideSync (which is only compatible with Samsung phones. I've tried it and it does not work). I've enabled USB debugging. The Nokia 8 says SideSync keeps closing. I can see the phone from my PC as it's connected by USB - so I can see the files on the phone from my PC - but cannot see the phone's screen or do anything to the phone.
Thanks all.
Hi,
You could try AirDroid if you know, which it gives you the option to control the phone and send texts and many other things. The only thing which i don't know if it suits you, is that it syncs through the wifi network... You connect the phone to your wifi network, and from your pc you go to a link that the app gives you and scan the QR code and thats it...
Try it maybe it will do the job for you.

Thank you for responding. I really want a USB connection to the PC as going over the air through my companies WiFi I am sure will slow things down. I have looked at Apowermirror and they want you to pay to use it and it's UI is a bit clunky. There's also Wondershare Go, but there doesn't seem to be an app on the playstore for screen mirroring, though I did do this with my Note 4.
MyPhoneExplorer
Hello, give a try to My Phone Explorer. It's free and very straight forward I think. I used it without issues.
If you Google it you'll find a link from fjsoft, that's the right one.
Good luck.
Hello, i use Vyzor to cast the screen of my N8 on my PC by using the usb connection.
The application can be used as free but if you need some quality you will need the paid version.
