How to Restore Apps after installing new Firmware ?
Will Restoring CWM Data do it ?
Hi, before you flash a ROM, you should install titanium backup and backup apps through there. Flash rom, clear data, dalvik, boot normally, set apn etc if needed then reinstall titanium backup and batch restore.

Yes out will. Choose batch from menu and pick whether to back up apps, or apps and data. Data will be stored on sd card. Apply new rom, clear data and dalvik, reinstall titanium backup. Select batch and pick restore apps or apps and data. Cwm backup can be done before flashing new rom, also; however, as you can restore your old rom, data, everything, including sms and call logs as if you never flashed the new rom.

Get Titanium from Market, update you busybox from titanium bkp, go to backup/restore tab, press menu button and then batch. Run the batch opperation you need. Save the titanium bkp folder from your sd to pc, and you're done.

Does this really work, so just dragging the Titanium Bkp folder back in to the SD and restoring installs all the apps again?
@shotgun32 & @Vivasanti
Yes. Put the TitaniumBackup folder back on the SD card after partitioning, wiping, formatting or whatever. Install Titanium Backup again from the Market on your fresh installed ROM and then restore. If your backup included system data, you will also have the SMS and contacts restored, plus most of the system settings. Also, you can restore only the needed apps.
Guys need help here, ive successfuly installed my 1st custom rom and restored my apps from titanium backup but my restored apps are not shown in market->myapps,
I need my restored apps to be linked back in the market so that I can still receive notification when an app has a new update. tnx
If I install a custom rom and then want to restore my apps and programs from my backup I made of my stock vibrant, can I just restore the data file from clockworks backup?.... or would that mess up my rom?

clockwork backs up your rom so if you restore that it'll just restore whatever rom you did the back up on
you need to use titanium backup or a similar app to backup and restore apps

You could restore this way, but you very well could have a lot of bugs and issues from this.

Is there an app that restores everything (apps, data, system settings) you had on your phone prior to installing a new ROM? So when you wipe your data and flash a new ROM, all you have to do is restore from the app and you're set

That would be titanium backup. I'd suggest getting the paid version though as it makes restoring much easier as you can do a batch restore vs one by one. If you are moving from say froyo to gingerbread, which have diff file structures, then you'll only be able to pretty much restore the app without data if I'm correct.

You can use Nandroid bundled in the recovery software (at least Clockwork and 4EXT work for me), just backup before installing a new ROM, it restores almost everything: kernel, system, data, cache, etc.
i prefer two apps
TITANIUM BACKUP PRO AND MYBACKPRO.....DEY BOTH ARE AWESUM
I used Titanium after flashing and it worked great! Thanks

Titanium Backup is an excellant App when used correctly. I would suggest the Pro version. Although I would caution against restoring System Data, it can cause issues down the line. App data for Games and such, usually isn't an issue though.
can it be used to backup sms, call log n contacts?
So i backed up my phone via CWM before custom ROM installation. After installation of the new ROM, is there any way to just restore the app+data from the previous backup ??

As far as I know, cwm backs up both user apps and system apps with their data so if u restore it from there, the old sytem apps and data might conflict with the new one...so I would advise against it.
Use cwm and completely restore ur old Rom, make a backup usng tb and then flash ur new Rom... Safest way!

I think that will make so much easier for me the fact of testing more ROMs on my cellphone, thanks you
You can simply backup your apps and data via TB and
After installing a new ROM just restore APP+DATA via TB... best way to sort and backup and restore apps individually

You could also use yaffey to extract anything from a CWM backup:

On some clockworkmod versions you can do an advanced restore and just choose data. Never tried it but maybe give it a shot

Not recommendable....if your phone is on different ROM before backup, restoring the backup data into different ROM will make your phone bootloop (really bad cases) or lost statusbar/setting and etc (light cases)....
since he already make a backup then TB is the best choices...

You Think????
FYI : Backup from CWM contains the whole pack of the previous ROM....when you choose to restore data only, it restore all data including User Apps Data and System Apps Data....when System Apps Data is restore into a different ROM, you bet it going to make your phone into bootloop....
you are welcome to try it if you don't believe me....

I was talking about the selective backup of nandroid backup from TB. Ofc in a CWM data restore all apps(system+user) get restored. Im well aware of that and I wont be trying that
Anyways i think this tool is the best option right now. So thanks iOneX for the info :good:
A bit late I guess..
Well, I come here six months later, but Google brought me here...
I guess you're already using Online Nandroid Backup combined with Nandroid Manager. Just two days ago I restored user apps+data with Nandroid Manager from a backup created through Online Nandroid Backup. Both apps from H3r3t1c are really useful, specially working together.
Aside of this advice (surely already not needed) I was looking after a script to restore those user apps+data from a backup. I wanna include that script in my list of zips-to-flash in ZipInstaller
I'd appreciate any help. Cheers.
Noob question again Sir/s...
In advance restore in recovery of different kernels...
What will be restore if I restore the ff...
1. Restore boot - ???
2. Restore System and Preload - ???
3. Restore data - ??? (i thinks apps that has been downloaded from Playstore)
4. Restore cache - ???
Additional question also...If I want to restore my text messages and call logs, which one should I restore from the choices above?...
I hope somebody will answer my questions...Newbie here in restoring, coz I always want fresh Installation of Roms without doing a Back-up...
Thanks in advance Sir/s...
Resore boot - restores kernel and recovery
Restore system and preload - restores whole system with all of its apk lib so files blah blah
Restore data - restores whole installed apps and its data including system datas
Restore cache restores what is stored in /cache partition, usualy dex files used by dalvik cache
You cant restore sms with cwm, only with titanium backup of something similar

You can easily make a CWM flashable of your apps/data with TiBu Pro.

Is it not just enough to restore may apps from recovery mode?...
You can do exactly that with a CWM flashable made with TI. Put all your non-system apps/data (if you want) into a flashable zip, get your new rom clean installed/phone re-rooted/whatever, flash the zip, done. No need to muck around restoring whole partitions which can cause problems particularly if you're changing to completely different rom/TW to AOSP & VV/or a different base (say 4.2 to 4.3, etc).
