Had my s2 for a week now and loving it. I've rooted with an unsecure kernel and flashed an original kernel back to get rid of the yellow triangle.
However, being a bit of a noob with the s2 and after many searches i can't find the best kernel for my phone. The naming convention really confuses me.
Anyone got any help... please?

Why do you want just a kernel why not latest firmware or are you wanting old firmware with a new kernel .

Hi everyone,
I got my Samsung Galaxy S2 about a month ago, and a friend of mine upgraded the kernel to: 2.6.35.7- I9100XWKE7- CL215725 root(at)DELL103 #2
And i don't know if its since then, but now the phone is acting weird, its overheating like crazy, and the battery has problems!
Can anybody please tell me which is the latest kernel to put, and of course the best.
I do wish to root it later on.
Thanks!
Andreas
Latest kernel ???? are you sure you just want a kernel not the firmware .
I9100XWKE7 = KE7 kernel and fairly up-to-date .
Not seen any unhacked kernels you will have to search or rip one from full firmware .

I have just got my new Samsung S2 after using an xperia x10i for the last 18 months, I have no problem rooting, flashing etc with that but with this new phone I have no idea and would really appreciate any help.
I have read a few posts regarding rooting and flashing, downloaded Odin but as far as kernels and roms go, not really much idea yet.
My phone is currently o2 first off I want to root it but make sure I get the right things I currently have
BB - I9100XXKE7
Kernel - 2.6.35.7 I9100XWKE7-CL276555 [email protected] #2
Build - GB.XWKF3
I already have siperoneclick but,
do I need this Insecure Kernel - GT-I9100_XWKF3_insecure - GT-I9100_XWKF3_insecure
and this Original Kernel - GT-I9100_XWKF3_original - GT-I9100_XWKF3_original
From Odia's thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1101671&highlight=insecure+kernels
I would like to replace the rom with a Generic UK or Europe rom for now before looking at custom roms but don't know which to use.
I am trying to answer my own questions but would really appreciate help in confirming I am reading things right and guiding me to the correct generic rom which I think is on this thread by Intratech.

Hello everyone, first time poster but very long time reader of these threads, i've been trying to get as much info as possible on this topic in the hope of reducing the noob-ness of my questions.
First off my phone specs are..
SGS2 on the 3/Vodafone network Australia
P-Code is GT-I9100LKJHUT
Model number GT-I9100T
Android Version 2.3.5
Baseband Version I9100TDUKJ1
Kernal Version 2.6.35.7-I9100TDUKJ1-CL687461
[email protected] #2
Build Number Gingerbread.DUKJ1
*#1234# returns...
PDA: I9100TDUKJ1
Phone: I9100TDUKJ1
CSC: I9100THUTKJ1
Build Info: Wed Oct 26 13:30:25 KST 2011
What i'd like to confirm is...
I have CF-Root-SGS2_XW_LUX_KJ1-v4.4-CWM4.tar
and CF-Root-SGS2_XW_LUX_KJ1-v5.0-CWM5.tar
are either of these two suitable to root my phone, and if so which would be better? or do i need to track down a kernel that more closely matches my stock one? I'm not too bothered about the yellow triangle or the counter increase as yet because i just want to get the root process right first, so can i safely continue using the new firmware/kernel instead of going back to stock just to remove the triangle.
Thanks for taking the time to read this and thanks in advance for any help.
You can use either, but use the 2nd one - later version of CWM. Apart from that, no difference.
So far as getting rid of the triangle/resetting the counter, get a jig & kill two birds with one stone. You can remove the triangle by another method, but it's fiddly and a jig is a must in any event.

Two points on above that OP should be aware of .
one ICS is not yet released beta rom only
two Triangle Away states
THIS IS A DANGEROUS OPERATION AND COULD POTENTIALLY BRICK YOUR DEVICE. PROCEED AT YOUR OWN RISK. A USB JIG IS PREFERRED IF YOU HAVE ONE.
( and by brick I mean brick - only a board replacement or a JTAG unit will be able to save you, don't mess with boot(loader) stuff unless you really mean it! )

I would go with the 2nd as it has a later version of CWM - the important part of the kernal is the last three digits yours and the kernels you have picked out match.
Thanks all for your replies, I must say what a relief it is to come to a forum where noob questions aren't met with derision and ridicule, I'm doubly glad because there's many more questions to come, thanks again.
P.s. where is the thanks button so I can give house all a big thumbs up?
Edit: there it is, I can't see for looking
hi . this is ashok from mumbai , india . i have a used tmobile vibrant sgh-t959 bought from a friend . the phone has the following attributes - firmware version - 2.2.1, baseband t959uvkb5, kernel version - 2.6.32.9 overstock-1.2ghz-v2.4.1#8, build number zsjpk, rom version galaxy extreme v2.1-gsdt. also there is a clockworkmod recovery v2.5.1.3 - voodoo lagfix in place . i am interested in installing an ics rom which is very similar to the google version and also has a better battery life. would the ics slim 4.0.4 ver 3.2 satisfy my needs or is there a better alternative for me considering my needs as above ? i would appreciate someone giving me a link to a step by step guide for ics installation since i am new to bootloaders, odin and similar things and i have heard they are risky business . please help me friends @ xda . thank you .
Hello guys,
I'm a new "rooter" and my English isn't really good. I think it's because I'm from Germany, not from the US or the UK^^. Atleast it isn't as good as I could find the answer to my question (I bet this sentence is wrong xD).
My problem is, that I want to use the Pure ICS Custom ROM from Spike. Until now, I only get Version 4.0 running on my Galaxy S2 GT-I9100 for which you need XXLP1/XXLP2. I want to run PURE ICS v7.2 oder v7.3. For v7.2 I need to get the Stock ROM of XWLP4 and for v7.3 I need to get the XWLP8 running. I tried many installation guides, but I just can't get those Stock ROMs running.
What are the requieremts to get XWLP4, XWLP7, XWLP8 (stock) running?
Thank you!
No requirements except to have a i9100 not G model and to follow the instructions .
Instructions in this post .
Stock Roms .and csc
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1075278
LP7 and 8 posted in general section ICS firmware .

I dont have the G model.
So that mean, i can flash every firmware I want? And the carrer doesn't matter?
Because i have problems installing XXLPQ, LP4 and XWLP7 etc. I always get a bootloop and theres no way to get into recovery mode. I just get the firmwares XXLP1 and XXLP2 running. the XXLP1/2 ROMs are 4 parts (PIT, PDA, PHONE, CSC) and the other i tried are only 1 part, the DPA part. is this the problem?
There is an LP7 rom which is euro wide - just means you cant use KIES to update and you lose your carriers branded material.
I loaded the LP7 onto my UK phone and it worked perfectly - just remember to wipe your data first - this could be the problem of the bootloops.
There is also the cfkernal link to get root and cwm on your phone.
Good luck in your search for the correct answer.

I have literally switched between 14-15 Roms, the one stood out for me is Resurection rom builds, great work by the Dev and it really is the best ICS experience,so go ahead flash the latest version it's stable and has the best battery flow,im using v1.4 though =D
